Restaurant Martinus in Wijk 01 Sneek

We ate at the restaurant nine times in the evening. The food was always very good and, as part of a three-course menu, quite plentiful. The selection of dishes is relatively modest. Long-term guests at the hotel often find themselves having to eat a dish twice. This also applies to the desserts. The service is always friendly and helpful. A menu in German made ordering easier. We weren't always happy with the seating assignment. Better seats were reserved, but they remained unoccupied the entire evening. Very strange. Dinner on the terrace is very nice.

A fairly simple menu for a Van der Valk Exclusive branch. The flavors were fine, but for such a luxury hotel, you'd expect more upscale dishes or at least more culinary delights. The staff were always very friendly, though.

On the day of our arrival, we decided to eat here. We made a reservation at reception upon check-in and then sat down for dinner. As always, the staff was well-trained and helpful with any questions or requests. There's an extensive drinks menu with many local beers. For starters, we had the mustard soup and shrimp cocktail, both of which were delicious. Our son had the children's menu, which included soup, pizza, and ice cream for dessert. Our main course was the New Zealand lamb, which was fantastically prepared. Perfectly grilled on the outside and tender on the inside. The honey-thyme sauce topped it off. I would have given the food five stars, but the pizza on the children's menu tasted like a frozen pizza, which was a bit disappointing.

The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The staff was also friendly and the service was fast.

The service was disinterested, the food was mediocre: two small portions of fries for six people. If you ask for more, it takes so long for everyone to finish their meal. When I ordered a cup of coffee and tea, they forgot to bring the tea strainer. "We'll bring it," was the answer. It took so long again that the tea water had already cooled down. Then they brought new cups of water, which again took forever. All in all, another disappointing experience. I had eaten at Van der Valk in Zwolle the day before, and the difference in service and quality was night and day.
