After all the positive reviews, we wanted to try this Turkish restaurant ourselves, and we were absolutely not disappointed. Our expectations were far exceeded on all fronts. The Atmosphere and Service Upon entering, the well-maintained and atmospheric decor is immediately striking. The staff is incredibly hospitable, which immediately ensures a warm and inviting start to the evening. You can tell from everything that the team here works with passion and dedication. We were served quickly, and the wait staff actively helped us choose from the menu. They took ample time to explain the dishes, which is a major plus when you are looking for authentic culinary gems. The Food: A Perfect Hot Meal The menu offers a fantastic selection of 100% halal dishes. While many people immediately think of the grill when it comes to a Turkish restaurant, I was specifically looking for a nutritious and warm meal this evening. I opted for a traditional stew packed with fresh vegetables and tender lamb. What immediately stood out when the dish was served was the fantastic, spicy aroma. The lamb was truly cooked sublimely; it was so incredibly tender that it almost melted in the mouth, and the pure flavor of the meat came into its own perfectly. The combination with the warm vegetables — including perfectly soft stewed eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, and juicy tomatoes — made for an extremely flavorful and savory meal. The rich, warm sauce in which the lamb and vegetables simmered was full of authentic Turkish spices and was perfectly balanced. It was served with a generous portion of rice and delicious fresh, warm Turkish bread to dip into the sauce. This was exactly the comforting meal I had been hoping for. Value for Money In a time when prices in the hospitality industry are rising sharply, Merza proves that top quality and affordability can still go hand in hand. You really get value for your money here: the portions are generous and nutritious, and the ingredients are clearly fresh and selected with care. Consequently, we left feeling very satisfied and full. Conclusion Restaurant Merza on IJburg is highly recommended for anyone looking for real, authentic Turkish cuisine in Amsterdam. Especially if you greatly enjoy a traditionally prepared hot meal featuring lamb and rich vegetables, you have come to the right place. I have good experience and I have been doing this for a long time

We love coming here as a family, and it remains one of our favorite restaurants. The value for money is truly excellent: you get good value for your money and you never go home hungry. The desserts are highly recommended, especially the red velvet and Oreo cheesecake – truly the best we’ve had. It’s also nice that you get complimentary Turkish tea. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and welcoming, which makes the experience even more pleasant. It does get busy on weekends, so making a reservation is definitely recommended. There is a small play area for families. Additionally, there is a prayer room available, which we find very pleasant. Parking is available right outside (paid). All in all, a lovely place where we will definitely keep coming back!

My experience at Merza in Amsterdam was very disappointing. I did not enjoy my visit at all. From the moment we entered, it was noticeable that the hygiene left much to be desired; tables were not properly cleaned and the general impression of the restaurant felt unhygienic. Additionally, the staff came across as uninterested and unprofessional. Hardly any attention was paid to the guests and the service was slow. For the price, I had expected much more. Unfortunately, not a place I would return to.

We are very disappointed with the service. The waiter did not know how to speak properly and his attitude was unprofessional. He served us cold bread and left. When we told him the bread was cold, he replied, “It’s Ramadan, we don’t serve hot bread.” This is not an appropriate response. As customers, we expect better service and respectful behavior. Please ensure your staff is properly trained so other guests do not have the same experience.

Besides the fact that there was no salad/minimal sauce, the shawarma was hard, chewy, and dry.

We've been getting takeout from Merza IJburg for quite some time, and so far, the food has always been delicious and fresh. Unfortunately, our experience today was very disappointing. The bread wasn't baked properly, and the shawarma sandwich tasted more like ground meat. The flavor was practically nonexistent, making the dish truly inedible. For a €50 bill—for two lentil soups, a wrap, and a shawarma sandwich—you expect good quality. This time, unfortunately, it fell far short of your usual standard. It seems like the quality has really deteriorated, which we find very disappointing. We hope you address this so that the quality you're known for can be maintained.
