Restaurant Moustique in Oude Stad

The dishes and wine were delicious, but very limited. A cheese board costs an extra 8.50, but there were tiny pieces of cheese on the plate. Even the waiter agreed with us. For 63.50, you'd expect it to be sufficient and leave feeling satisfied. Such a shame!

We did not expect this, but try that 2 to 4 course menu and enjoy yourself!!!

Amazing experience, highly recommend setting aside a few hours and getting at least 4-5 courses from the Moustique menu.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Haarlem! The quality of the food was outstanding, the presentation of the dishes was impeccable, and the flavors were so perfectly balanced that I was left speechless. Also, the prices were absolutely fair considering the level of quality.

Lovely mid week evening dinner at this Moustique Restaurant which was awarded a Michelin star in 2023. The food is well thought through, complex but very tasty. Interesting accompaniments to the dishes. The service was friendly and very good yet the place lacked any real ambiance. I had good company thankfully.

What an amazing experience! The place is very chic. The food is very tasty. The staff help you with a smile in their face. They explain the menu and how the food is made. I can only say go there and enjoy. I really recommend!

Cosy place with friendly staff. Enjoyed the 4-course menu with a larger group. Delicious tasty amuses and a fantastic starter of various vegetables. From the intermediate course it was okay but not special. What disappointed me a bit was the portioning. I am used to 4 courses being sufficient but here I was still hungry at the end of the evening. There were also big differences between the portions on the different plates. All in all four stars for restaurant Moustique.

Eating at Moustique is always a treat, especially the surprise menu. Staff is sharp, sees everything. Highly recommended if you want something extra.

Delicious 3 course dinner. Really good flavours

Truly unique dishes right in the heart of Haarlem. The flavors and ingredient combinations were unlike anything we’ve had before—refreshingly out of the ordinary. The service was outstanding.

Definitely worth eating here if you are in Haarlem. Tip to make a reservation if you want to be assured of a table. Made a reservation at 6pm, we were the second guests of the evening. This gave us plenty of choice to choose a table for two. We hoped it wouldn't stay that empty. Fortunately, it filled up with other guests in half an hour. The menu offered a choice of a 3, 4, 5, 6-course chef's menu, you could also order a la carte. Opted for a 5-course menu. They took into account that my partner didn't want fish. The food tasted so good that we regretted not going for the 6-course menu at the fourth course. This could easily be changed to 6 courses. Host Gijs had a suitable wine for each dish. He briefly highlighted each time before the dish was served. You could tell the passion and knowledge he has when he talks about the wine and the food. The timing of him at the table was also perfect not too long and not too short. Very pleasantly served by him.

Lethargic, untrained service and, mostly, food to match. Amuses were Ok but odd…faintly sweet. Sweetbreads were properly prepared but surrounded by peculiar, irrelevant garnish. Prices were high in relation to the product and service.

Certainly to the taste of the Dutch, but for the French... a "cassoulet" with only meat from the pot au feu... seasoned with vanilla...yes yes...and raw radishes...an improbable dessert with a mixture of licorice ice cream and beetroot tips. Although open to new sensations we really have the impression of a pile-up of products without any search for harmony...all more very expensive

We were a group of seven people and a baby. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed in a pleasant, quiet and cozy atmosphere. We opted for the four-course menu and were surprised with delicious, refined dishes. A small adjustment to the starter was no problem, which shows flexibility and customer focus. We had a wonderful evening and I would without a doubt recommend this restaurant to anyone. The staff was friendly, attentive and helpful — exactly what you would expect from a good restaurant.

What a wonderfully relaxing evening. We opted for the chef's four-course dinner (one vegetarian). Atmospheric, hospitable, welcome, beautiful and very tasty plates, beautiful wines. Really great. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates surprising flavors and combinations in a place where you can dine relaxed.

Teleurstellend is het juiste woord. We hadden ons erg verheugd om onze verjaardagen te vieren na veelbelovende verhalen over Moustique. We kozen voor het drie gangen verrassingsmenu. De drie verschillende amuses waren zout en weinig inspirerend. Het voorgerecht met tonijn was wel oké, maar de balans met een vrij zure passievruchtgelei was ver te zoeken, dit verpestte de smaak. Het hoofdgerecht bestond uit parelhoen, een bitterbal van parelhoen, een stuk aardappel en een witlofpakketje. De aardappel was niet gaar, het witlofpakketje was een grote misser, smaken waren totaal uit balans. De bitterbal was droog. De parelhoen was niet bijzonder maar wel oké, maar dit kwam met name door de jus die erbij geserveerd kreeg. We hadden onze hoop gevestigd op het nagerecht, maar helaas nog een tegenvaller. Bij de meeste gerechten is er gebruik gemaakt van exclusievere ingrediënten, waardoor we de prijs nog enigszins konden plaatsen. Maar dit was het wat ons betreft niet waard. De bediening is matig en geforceerd. Toen er bij het afrekenen geen fooi werd gegeven was het personeel zichtbaar gepikeerd.

The menu lacks creativity. If only creativity was what the menu lacks. I came for dinner on a Tuesday, maybe leftovers from the weekend were served, but that seems strong to me for this price. Meat was boring, would make my grandma even better. No exciting combinations in terms of taste at all. The restaurant is mentioned in the Michelin guide, but I don't understand anything else about it. The restaurant lacks all the requirements of a restaurant that will be mentioned in the Michelin guide. 1. The ingredients didn't taste fresh at all. 2. There appears to have been little effort in the preparation. 3. No exciting flavor combinations at all 4. Little to no creativity 5. Price quality is low.

We have been here for the second time and very satisfied. Very tasty and creative dishes. The service is also very friendly and hospitable! Definitely a gem in Haarlem for lunch/drinks or dinner, we will definitely come back!

Restaurant Moustique is een prachtige locatie midden in de stad, ideaal voor een bijzondere gelegenheid. Voor kerstavond genoten we van een speciaal 5-gangenmenu, en het was in één woord geweldig. De gerechten waren heerlijk, begeleid door een prachtige Pinot Grigio, en de bediening was uitmuntend. Wat vooral opviel, was hoe tot in de kleinste details alles goed geregeld was. Een voorbeeld: ik merkte op dat er een cola op de rekening leek te ontbreken. De reactie van het personeel was echter uitzonderlijk attent: “Nee hoor meneer, uw partner begon met een non-alcoholische champagne in plaats van een gewone, dus rekenen we de extra cola niet.” Dat soort klantgerichtheid waardeer ik enorm. De prijs ligt wat hoger, maar gezien de kwaliteit van het eten, de sfeer en de service is het meer dan waard. Wij komen hier zeker terug!

I stopped by for a 3 course meal and it was delicious. Favourite was habachi starter and steak with onion sauce. I would definitely come back but I would go for a larger course set menu, and ask for wine pairing.

Een pareltje in Haarlem. Heel erg lekker gegeten, heel erg mooi opgemaakte borden,prachtige entourage, super professionele en sympathieke bediening en een perfecte prijs/kwaliteit verhouding!!! Chapeau!!!

Had a delicious meal at Moustique with surprising lunch dishes. My companion had the Naan baba ganoush, I had the Bapao chicken curry. Beautifully presented and a pleasant combination of flavors in both 'sandwiches' (but sandwiches don't really cover it). The apple pie with whipped cream was also very popular. Add to that the attentive service and you certainly have a pleasant experience. I'll definitely be back!

Restaurant Moustique offered a very nice lunch and great service. Restaurant had a good atmosphere. The bar service was also excellent. Waiter spoke fluent English.

Leuk ingericht restaurant hartje centrum Haarlem. Vriendelijke ontvangst. We kozen voor een menu. Desgevraagd wilde men de inhoud van het menu niet vertellen. Dit verbaasde ons maar we gaven de chef ‘the benefit of the doubt’. Kwestie van verrassing….Really? Daarom hadden we niet de mogelijkheid om eventueel voor a la carte te kiezen. Het menu was deskundig toebereid maar de ingrediënten zouden niet onze eerste keuze zijn. Rauwe makreel , zeeduivel en kip. Stevige prijzen gezien het gebruik van zeer betaalbare ingrediënten. De volgende keer kiezen we a la carte wanneer we de gerechten van het menu niet kennen.

Dropped in for a quick but perfect lunch, starting with a delicious lobster bisque with prawns, followed by a Ceasar salad with chicken or prawns depending on your choice. Made with care, a Chardonnay from Mendoza completed it. We are looking forward to dinner

6 courses for 93 €/pax with high standards that were not met in all courses at the table without table linen. Initially very subtly seasoned, bolder with the meat. Regional and seasonal foods are processed. Sometimes there was no salt, more often there was no acid. Sometimes the oil dripped on the table is not sensorially perceptible. Meat sauce and courses tasty. Dessert delicious. Friandises expandable. Service in the waiter carousel with different performance. The table was not cleaned of crumbs, wine was swapped, cutlery was placed once in the middle of the table. Friendly, a bit distant. It's worth a visit👍

Het 4-gangen lunch menu was overheerlijk. De amuses en de verschillende gerechten wisten ons telkens weer te verbazen. De combinaties van ingrediënten, smaken, textuur en de presentatie: we werden er gewoon vrolijk van. Het is een tijd geleden dat ik zo lekker heb gegeten. Complimenten aan de chef!

Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Abend in diesem tollen Restaurant. Küche auf top top Niveau, optisch und geschmacklich ein Fest für alle Sinne. Sehr aufmerksames, liebevolles Personal, gleichzeitig alles total entspannt und lässig und trotzdem perfekt. Auch die Weinkarte ist umfangreich und es findet sich etwas in jeder Kategorie und für jeden Geschmack. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

We hebben hier genoten van het 4 gangen menu met een bijpassend wijnarrangement. Voor het diner hebben we eerst nog gezellig een drankje gedronken op het terras. Het eten was top en de bediening attent en zeer vriendelijk. We hebben een heerlijke avond gehad.

A mediocre evening. Chose this restaurant based on positive reviews on Google. First impression: outside it looks like a “normal” restaurant. The exterior does not look high-quality (simple rattan chairs). Once inside, the atmosphere appears to be different. Beautiful interior, exudes luxury. Nice staff, sometimes a bit difficult to understand and in terms of appearance not all appropriate for the price range of the restaurant. Enjoyed a 5 course dinner. Of these 5 courses, 2 excellent dishes. Unfortunately the other 3 dishes are substandard for the price. There are still large bones present in the fish dish. One targeted huge salt. Good portion sizes. After 1 course the staff asked if we enjoyed it, but nothing more. Dietary wishes were no problem. Toilets not clean, crooked toilet seat, dirty air vents, walls not clean, trash can in which paper towels to dry your hands can be deposited was overflowing. Conclusion: Price quality below par.

Einladung eines niederländischen Geschäftsfreundes, angepriesen als Chef‘ Dinner surprise, was es auch war. Einzelne Gänge waren gut aufeinander abgestimmt, manche aber einfach to much! Ambiente außen ok, Bedienung eher rudimentär und tw. Eines Michelin Restaurant nicht würdig. Als Bsp. Rotwein offen der gleichen Sorte Mindermengen einfach zusammen geleert. Dass der Rotwein warm war und nicht zum Probieren angeboten wurde kommt noch dazu und das passt einfach nicht. Ganz schwach war der Hauptgang und die Nachspeise süß wurde zurückgegeben. Michelin?

After a long day of travel, my partner and I arrived tired in Haarlem. We toured the city quickly and decided to find a nice place to eat at 7:30 PM. We chose a pleasant spot with available outdoor seating. We politely asked the waitress if we could sit down, not even specifying what we'd order. She quickly replied, 'No, we don't serve dinner.' I mentioned we might just have a drink, but she ignored us. It's a shame because, despite the positive reviews, you could learn some hospitality and cuisine from Italy. You lost two potential customers who would have spent well, but you seemed to judge us based on our attire. We travel the world and don't wear heels every day. Sincerely."

We booked this for our last night on holiday in Amsterdam. We saw the good reviews and had eaten some great meals throughout the week. But this one blew us away. Hands down it was the best meal we had on our vacation. Not only that, but we had the best service here as well. Our servers, Brit and Danielle, were welcoming and took time to explain the dishes in English for us. We opted for the 6 course chef's dinner. We were treated to several small dishes that were not on the menu. Each course building to the next. We were treated to a three small bites to begin, a creme brulee, a potato salad, and a vegan mushroom in a yellow curry sauce. From there we enjoyed (1) tuna tartar dish, (2) mullet fish with mushrooms and hazelnuts, (3) smoked celery and apricots, (4) lamb on a potato puree with tomato hollandaise sauce, and finished with (5) skirt steak with an onion soup and green herb sauce. Finally, they gave us the choice of cheeses or something sweet for dessert. We opted for sweet. Our dessert (6) was a poached peach with vanilla ice cream over an almond cake. Great dinner, great service, great ending to a wonderful vacation.

If you’re white, this is the place to be. If you look different they’ll watch you from head to toe 3 times as if you don’t belong. By they, I am directly referring to the young white blonde Dutch girl with glasses. It’s fine if you’re only service dinner, but there was no need for that behavior and disgusting look she displayed.

Moustique was a highlight of our time in Haarlem. We had a wonderful dinner here. The food was beautiful and the presentation could not have been better (see photos below). It felt very special. We had the Chefs Menu, which I’d highly recommend. We could have chosen up to 6 courses but we opted for the 4 course (€68pp). There was a twist with the Chef’s Menu - each dish is a surprise and you don’t know what you will be served. I wondered whether we were going out on a limb here. It could have been a lucky dip. However each dish was delightfully creative, with a wonderful combination of flavours and tastes. As each course was served, we were given a detailed description which made it all the more mouth-watering. Not one dish disappointed. If I’d had longer in Haarlem, I’d have gone back another night. I’d certainly return if we are in Haarlem again.

Mustique is Magnificent! Must try tip, the oysters. Our experience at Moustique is 100%. We cannot agree with the reviews below with less than 5 stars. A dinner club of 4 people, “dinner club” is nothing more than a group of four people that makes too many demands. €550 is change for 4 people! Racism?, for a salt shaker??, the Chef determines the taste. If you don't like it or are too bland for your own taste, salt is certainly a way to boost the dishes. Again, Moustique is great. We will definitely be back next year for our wedding day. Cheers!!

The staff behaved unfriendly and racist. When we asked for a salt shaker it took more than 10 minutes for us to get one and when we asked again we got an empty salt shaker. Ultimately my husband wanted to speak to the manager and complain about the behavior. A young man introduced himself as the manager and said in response to our complaint that such things can happen sometimes. Mutual respect and friendship are rights of all people, regardless of their skin color or where they were born. In the end, a beautiful sunny day was lost and I will never go to this restaurant again.

I ate here a few weeks ago. The food was great, the service was variable. We had one lady who was super attentive and the other lady clearly didn't feel like it that day. That's a shame because it partly determines your evening. I have also emailed the company twice with a question about the invoice, to which I have not yet received an answer. Bad service and for me a reason not to come back.

Mega case! Been 5 times now and not once disappointed. Tastes great, portions perfect and a beautiful wine list. The owner works a lot on the floor himself and provides some extra bowling.

The menu offered a good selection of dishes, each with a unique twist that left us wanting more. From the first course to the last course, it was great. The chef clearly has a passion for his profession and you can taste it. As for service, we were spoiled with attentive and friendly service. Our glasses were regularly refilled and nothing was too much. The hospitality of the staff adds to the overall charm of the restaurant. We cannot recommend this restaurant enough to anyone looking for a culinary experience in Haarlem. We look forward to returning and tasting more of all this restaurant has to offer!

Beautiful place, very cosy atmosphere, we ordered 4-course meal and got 6 course in the end. For 64€ that’s amazing! Every dish was delicious and we didn’t have to wait too long actually. Abaolutely gem of a place🥰 Would come again

What a discovery in Haarlem! A restaurant with super friendly service that pays attention to the guest. The dishes were all fantastic. A true taste experience! The kitchen brigade knows how to combine challenging flavors. They took the dishes into account so that we didn't get the same thing two evenings. We had a nice lunch here today. We had the 3 course surprise menu and it was very popular. A few small points mean that it is not 5 stars. The waitress was a bit young and in our opinion inexperienced. The explanation of the food was rambling and coffee came well before dessert etc etc. All in all a wonderful and tasty experience for us!

This restaurant is more than worth its Michelin star. It was a party, everything is perfect here, great food, well-coordinated staff. The pleasure radiates from it.

We ate at Moustique a while back with our dinner club. Even though we had heard good stories/reviews, we found it disappointing. Our waitress was still feeling sick (not really appetizing) and apologized for that too. One of our appetizers was served tipped over and finishing a course at the table was a bit sloppy (no sauce left after person 3 of 4). The flavors were good, but the dessert made from sesame had much too strong a taste, so we lost the experience of the other courses in one fell swoop. The wine list was good, with a nice touch of a "secret" cellar booklet with very special wines that they have in their collection. When we switched from white to red and we asked for a red wine glass, the response was a bit crazy because the wine glasses were said to be universal. All in all, we were disappointed for the high price that the four of us paid (€550) and the inclusion in the Michelin guide. To reach Michelin star level, some things still need to be done in terms of consistency, service and taste experience.

Yesterday we enjoyed a 4-course chef surprise menu together, compliments to the entire team for a successful evening, chefs with a passion for the profession, what beautiful refined dishes and the matching wines are perfectly matched to each other. Service professional, friendly and knowledgeable when it comes to the wines available. In short, definitely recommended.

Surprising choice of menus with small dishes full of taste sensations. The staff is very friendly and lists all the ingredients for each bite. We had a fantastic evening, highly recommended.

Very pleasant staff. We were there for lunch so not so much atmosphere. I made the mistake of ordering a chicken and kimchi on a waffle. It was dry and the chicken was like nuggets and overpriced at €15. My companions were happy with their choices (bisque, roast beef) and the warmed up apple pie (not home-made I think) tasty. Maybe dinner is more like Michelin standard - we’ll come back and try.

Yesterday, Saturday, we had lunch here again. Moustique remains Sublime! In addition to the delicious dishes, all praise for the kitchen, the 'hostesses' Jasmijn and Kaatje are worth their weight in gold. Maintains at least this level. Really great.

This is where you need to be!! The chef and his team cook with love and attention at a very high level. The hospitality and casual atmosphere is fantastic. Highly recommended!!

Too bad, too bad and even more unfortunate that we really didn't like the food as much. They were kind of like paintings on the plate, but there was really no taste sensation, let alone explosion. There were two parts that were really tasty, the beurre blanc and a kind of profiteroles that had to be dipped in a warm spiced oil. The wines were not really special and the dishes fit on a tablespoon or a teaspoon respectively. The diamond fillet was tough and finally Cointreau was added to my French Coffee instead of Grand Marnier without being asked. The cheese board could also have been a bit more, but that was compensated by the thick slices of sugar bread served with it.

5 course dinner, all looked beautiful but tasted like nothing. Diamond tenderloin as a main course, or called Jew's tenderloin, so not a hare......not chewable, really very tough. Wine pairing, they came next to the table to open the screw cap, made no sense. Service fine, but 600 euros for 4 people is ridiculous.

Bediening is vriendelijk, service kan iets beter op elkaar aansluiten, soms te lang wachten tussen de gangen. Hoofdgerechten zijn iets te veel poespas, suggestie to keep it simple. Minder bijgerechtjes op het bord, maak er meer een geheel van.

We went to the Moustique restaurant in Haarlem and loved the food and the atmosphere. We ordered the 4-course surprise menu. Each course was freshly prepared, creatively presented and delicious. The ingredients were of high quality and harmonized perfectly. The star should not be far away.... The staff were very attentive, friendly and professional. The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere and beautiful interior. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back. I can recommend the Moustique restaurant to anyone who wants to experience a culinary journey in a class of its own.

Mooi opgemaakte borden, lekker eten. Geen smaakexplosies. Er werd goed meegedacht met dieet wensen. Wel moesten we zelf meerdere keren vragen of we nog iets te drinken mochten bestellen. Ik kan me voorstellen dat dit komt door een personeelstekort. Verder zeer vriendelijke bediening. Ik vind het voorste deel van het restaurant sfeervoller dan het achterste deel waar wij zaten.

Genoten van het 5 gangen verrassingsmenu dat op ons verzoek geen vis bevatte. Alles met veel aandacht bereidt, aan tafel goed uitgelegd. Kritisch puntje; jammer dat er geen moctail (non alcoholisch) arrangement beschikbaar is. Zo ie zo komen de moctails er bekaaid af. De gastvrouw heeft wel wat steekjes laten vallen betreffende de drankjes. Ze verzuimde geregeld te vragen of we oké waren qua drankjes. Waardoor er weinig gedronken is. Verder alle lof!

Aan de inzet ligt het niet, maar het was gewoon niet lekker helaas. Er wordt een beetje te hard geprobeerd. De gerechten bestaan uit veel te veel smaken door elkaar die elkaar niet versterken en alle extra's op het bord zorgen niet voor een meerwaarde, maar voor een beetje rommelig geheel. De chilisaus bij de vis was gewoon echt niet lekker en voelde goedkoop en de short rib was niet echt mals en veel te heet. Twee van de drie van ons gezelschap besloten na gang 2 van de 5, over te stappen op 4 gangen. De 100e pp die we hebben uitgegeven, was het niet echt waard. De dame die ons bediende was op zich vriendelijk, maar van een dergelijk restaurant verwacht ik iets meer etiquette. Er werd over tafel heen geserveerd, de fles water werd op tafel gezet zonder de glazen te vullen, de oesters waren vergeten en werden daarom na de eerste gang gebracht. Kleinigheidjes, maar die maken wat mij betreft wel het verschil.

Ich kann mich nur den anderen 5-Sterne-Bewertungen anschließen! Speisen, Ambiente und Bedienung machen den Besuch zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis! Unbedingt reservieren!
