Cozy place! Delicious food, nice small dishes, a bit pricey though, unfortunately, prices have gone up everywhere in restaurants. All in all, we had a wonderful Christmas Eve.

We had a fantastic meal at Proeverij de Open Keuken. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was excellent.

The service was excellent, and the restaurant's decor is cozy. But if you're going to a restaurant for a good meal, this is definitely not the place to be. There was nothing wrong with the carpaccio. Nor with the venison stew. But dumping it in the same container on top of the red cabbage, forcing you to eat everything together, is a real letdown. The fries were very pale, and tasted just as pale. The goat cheese croquettes were equally pale and tasteless. The prawns were difficult to peel. The ice cream and cheesecake in the dessert were okay, but I still don't know how to place the tough, dry, vaguely chocolate-flavored briquette in the whole thing. I've never had such a bad brownie—or whatever it was supposed to be. The dishes that tasted decent were nothing special. The restaurant's name is a good choice, because a day later, my clothes still smell strongly of cooking odors and frying fat. Luckily, the company I was with was very pleasant. As a result, I did not have any traumatic experience at this restaurant.

De Open Keuken is a restaurant I've enjoyed visiting for a good part of my life. I always keep coming back when I'm craving a tasty bite. It has a pleasant atmosphere, is relaxed, and above all, delicious. The staff is friendly. The tastings are a great way to experience different flavors and make an evening here extra enjoyable. Highly recommended in Hilversum.

A very busy and noisy restaurant. There were four of us and we ordered various dishes. The carpaccio was the only dish we were satisfied with. The prawns were difficult to peel, the spare ribs were tough and had too much sauce. The risotto was too salty. The beetroot carpaccio was bland. The mustard soup was watery. The fries were pale and the potatoes were just barely cooked. It was also annoying to witness a heated argument between the chefs. We left the restaurant early and got dessert at Albert Heijn.

I ate here regularly during my stay in Hilversum, and it was excellent. Nice restaurant, pleasant atmosphere, and friendly staff. The food was good but not exceptional.

Even before a dinner order could be placed, the staff poured the first drink, in the classic lean-over style, all over the guest, who literally dripped down. With the management's comment that staff also need to learn on the job, and that this was already their third deployment on the most crucial and busiest night of the week, it was considered perfectly normal. A disgrace to the hospitality industry as a business. Close this establishment down!

The ambiance and decor were very pleasant! The food was delicious—not particularly good or bad. The concept of small dishes was so obvious that it wasn't explained to us newcomers.

I ate here with a group of 10 friends. It was well-organized, and the tastings were delicious. The main course was excellent. Dessert was delicious. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy a meal and be surprised by the tastings.

We had a wonderful meal in a cozy, warm atmosphere. They even offer a completely gluten-free menu. The staff were very attentive, and the wines were simply excellent.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at this place. We had a delicious meal, choosing two starters and four main courses, all of which tasted great. Only one of the starters was not what we ordered, but we didn't realize until the end. I think it was a translation or pronunciation error, due to our lack of knowledge of Dutch, ha ha ha, but otherwise it was a great experience and the waitresses provided excellent service.

Cozy restaurant with nice details. The noise level is quite loud, but the soundproofing is poor. The staff had to practically shout their way through the menu. Delicious dishes, something for everyone! Very friendly service.

Delicious food, definitely worth it. The service was great, the ladies who helped us were friendly, but it took a while to get our menu, and they left our plates on the table for too long. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is a bit less pleasant because it's so noisy. The acoustics are really bad, and the tables are too close together. But yes, the food is delicious. Drinks and food are quite expensive, though. So yeah, half the table didn't want to go back because of the noise.

Very friendly service, very noisy and with shouting guests. The price-quality ratio is disproportionate. €129.75 for two people for very mediocre food. A shame.

The samplers are a great concept; small dishes so you get a bit of everything. I would just choose to serve the dishes individually instead of all at once so you can eat more leisurely. Plenty of variety.

We went for a salmon tasting and, as a main course, a 1/5-cubic-inch teriyaki ribs. It was incredibly delicious and the service was excellent. Definitely recommended!

Friday evening, October 17th, I went out for dinner with a group of friends. The hospitality was fantastic. We received a warm welcome. We sampled the food. The food was delicious, plentiful, and well-prepared. We had a wonderful dinner and reminisced. It was a successful evening.

Saturday, October 11th, from 7:00 PM, we dined with four people at the Open Kitchen. The food was excellent, and the staff was friendly and helpful. However, you do need to be on the fast track, as most guests have already left by 10:00 PM, as closing up is already underway. This prompted us to ask a few questions about the Christmas menu, to which the manager couldn't answer. We asked what the menu would look like and received no response, but she could make a reservation for 11 people. We told her we wouldn't, and the manager replied, "No way!" and angrily walked away. We found this very negative, and therefore, she's not suitable for the hospitality industry. No reservations, and Christmas dinner will be held in the Open Kitchen in 2025. Too bad!

It was way too hot inside! The food was disappointing. The salmon was overcooked and dry, and the steak tartare and vitello tonnato were tasteless.

We had a delicious mussels, so delicious—really enjoyed it! Excellent service, good wine, cozy atmosphere, and you could tell all the other shrimp eaters were having a blast too!

Unlimited prawns, delicious! One of us is gluten-free. The gluten-free roll took forever to arrive. That's the only downside. We've also had it ready once (because I always let you know beforehand).

Gamba's month is over again. We ate here five times this month. Delicious food as always. A fantastic location with a friendly and enthusiastic team. It's always a pleasure to come back!

We had a wonderful meal on Saturday night! Upon arriving at your restaurant, we saw the "all-you-can-eat prawns" sign. We came specifically for this, but it turned out this deal was for Sunday through Thursday 😐. You told us they'd make an exception for us and explained that we could still take advantage of this offer. So incredibly kind, thank you again. We had a delicious unlimited prawn meal. They even offered gluten-free prawns. The chocolate mousse for dessert was also fantastic! One of the nicest patios in the Gooi region!

September 2025 - This is the 4th or 5th time we've been here, and we really enjoy it. For us, the Open Kitchen is like celebrating a party. Birthdays, Christmas, or just because we have something else to eat. Festive and delicious food, they go hand in hand. Sharing delicious dishes is a great way to do that. The delicious and refined dishes, combined with the cheerful service, make your evening just perfect. The staff aren't pushy and don't push anything on you. That's really nice. For us, this is one of the best places in Hilversum.

Pleasantly surprised! Lovely terrace, we went on a Monday. The service was attentive, fast, and friendly. We chose the tasting menu, and you get two appetizers and two main courses. Portions are really ample. And it tastes great. We'll definitely be back.

The bread arrived quickly. I'm not a fan of white bread, but the crumb was okay. Ordering caused some problems for my group of four. The division into tastings and extra-large platters is a bit unusual. I tried all the vegetarian tastings. My table companions ate fish and shellfish. The food isn't great. The fries and beer are okay. The surroundings feel drab.

We had a delicious meal, and Mare and the other team members took excellent care of us. We'll be back soon.

Well, the food was good, but mediocre. The vitello tonato was dry and not fresh, the spare ribs were drenched in a sweet sauce... the service was quick and friendly. The kitchen occasionally made a lot of noise when something fell. The dishes were small, expensive, and not particularly special.

Cozy establishment. Nice staff. Menu design with appetizers and main samples is good. One more choice dessert. Delicious food 🍽️ (and drinks 🍺).

As usual, another delicious meal. Plenty of choice for everyone on the menu. Lovely terrace and great service. It remains our favorite restaurant in Hilversum.

Enjoyed delicious "Spanish" mussels

We went on Friday, July 11th. The staff was friendly, and the choice of dishes was good. However, our entire table got seriously ill the next day. (We didn't eat anything together, but we did share dishes here). We went to report it, actually with an eye to their future, but they ignored us completely and essentially denied that it could have been caused by their food. We paid €50 per person, not a bad price, but with this result. July 14th We've since been contacted, and we had a very pleasant conversation with the manager. Everything has been resolved, and everyone is now feeling better.

Was really a great evening. We were with a whole group and the service was really good. Never easy a group and they did it neatly. A few small things that went wrong but that can happen. They solved it neatly. And they also took 2 different allergies into account very neatly, really nice that that was possible!! I thought the food was tasty but not exceptional.

What a nice and good restaurant! The food was really delicious and it is a super fun concept with the tastings. Friendly and hospitable staff. Also with gluten allergy a lot of possibilities to eat. Beautiful restaurant inside a very nice atmosphere. When it is full there is little in terms of soundproofing so it can be a bit too loud noises, but other than that it is really super fun!

Sfeerloos restaurant met jonge bediening, die hun best doen maar weinig kennis van zaken hebben. Daarbij was het zeer overprijsd voor de kwaliteit die je krijgt. Niets bijzonders.

We have eaten here twice and both times were very pleasant. The service is great and the food is good! We have always come with another family so always 8-9 people and we have always had a great time. Their prawn speacial is great and highly recommended.

A disappointment for the entire group of 6 people. The asparagus soup was bland in taste and watery and completely unworthy of the price of 10.5 euros. With the main course, only those who opted for the ribs were very satisfied. However, it was still advertised on large signs that half a meter of ribs with fries was offered for 24.95 euros, while in reality 29.5 euros were charged for the ribs plus 5.5 euros for the fries. The explanation was that this was last month's promotion. A lame excuse, just like the food.

Tasty tastings.... The restaurant's system..! Recommended are 2 pre-tastings and 2 main tastings... If you take this as a full-fledged menu, you can also choose a delicious dessert. Very good kitchen with a wide range. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. We had a very nice evening.

Heerlijk gegeten en leuke creatieve gerechten! Een aanrader voor een heerlijk gerechten, goede sfeer en veel gezelligheid.

Begin april ons weer eens tegoed gedaan aan de Yakitori spare ribs middels de april-actie. Zijn uiteindelijk toch gegaan voor de 50 cm ribs en OMG wat waren ze lekker, om je vingers bij af te likken. Flesje rosé erbij en de avond kon niet meer stuk. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar, nu nog een gaatje in mijn agenda vinden voor een repeat-date met de spare ribs.

Leuk restaurant met fijn concept, ook voor de kleine eter! We belden onderweg of er nog ruimte was voor 4 personen. (2volwassenen en 2 kids) binnen was vol maar er werd aangeboden buiten plaats te nemen onder de heaters. Ook onze zoon zijn rolstoel was niet te veel er werd vriendelijk ruimte voor hem gemaakt! Leuke en vlotte bediening en lekker eten! Aanrader!

Een knus restaurant, met een hele huiselijke en fijne sfeer. Maar het eten… we hadden verschillende gerechten besteld en vonden het echt onder de maat. Weinig bijzonders qua smaak, dus zeker te prijzig. Nee wij zouden hier niet nog een keer gaan eten.

Echt weer genoten van de onbeperkt gamba’s, heerlijke wijn en vriendelijke personeel. Altijd een heerlijke ttotaalbeleving bij de Open keuken!

Found this gem of a restaurant when we were looking for a late meal near our hotel. Wonderful service, delicious food, and within our budget. We chose to do the tastings, and were not disappointed. We will definitely return. Bedankt!

Delicious food, sirloin steak, prawns, chicken biryani, volaille and the cheesecake brulee for dessert. Everything delicious and friendly service. We will definitely come here to celebrate more birthdays!

Everything is very good. Delicious food and service!! But you need to make an exhaust hood, sometimes the smoke from the kitchen is unbearable and it’s hard to breathe! And I highly recommend it!!!

What a nice tent, pleasant atmosphere and very friendly staff. A gem if you ask me!

For Valentine's Day I reserved a table, first at 5:30 PM, later moved to 6:00 PM via the waiting list, so that we had more time after work. According to the employee on the phone, two hours (until 8:00 PM) would be enough to eat in peace. Upon arrival at 6:00 PM we were assigned a table, but the restaurant was crowded. My girlfriend sat with her back to the walking route to the toilet and was regularly bumped by passers-by. We moved the table slightly, but this made it more difficult for the staff to reach other guests. Our drinks were taken quickly. We both chose a wine, but the waitress offered us cava because of Valentine's Day. This seemed like a nice idea, but afterwards it turned out to cost €7.50 per glass, while our original choice was €4-5. We did get a sandwich on the house in advance. We chose the Valentine's menu. Both the starter and main course were tasty, good portions and served at the right pace. The staff was well informed about the dishes. Around 8:00 PM we were asked if we wanted dessert immediately or wanted to wait a little longer. We opted for a short wait, but shortly afterwards we were presented with the bill, which made us feel like we had to hurry. However, dessert took a long time; After 45 minutes no one still came to our table, so we walked up to the staff to ask if our dessert could be delivered. Other guests also had trouble getting attention—people behind us even waved their phone flashlights. After dessert no one came to us again so we could pay. We ended up walking to the staff ourselves and being sent to the front to pay, only at 9pm, an hour after our original end time. Conclusion: The food was good and the staff knew what they were serving, but the restaurant was too full, which detracted from the service and the overall experience.

Bijzonder sfeervol restaurant met een goede keuken. Het menu is afwisselend en bijzonder smaakvol. De gerechten zijn als proevertje (royaal voorgerecht) of als volwaardige maaltijd. Door het uitgekiende menu heerlijk van vele hapjes kunnen genieten. Het personeel is zorgzaam en vriendelijk. Echt een aanrader voor een gezellig avondje uit.

Apart from the incredibly sweet service, I think the food is a real travesty. The price/quality ratio is absolutely not in order. The portions are very small. And that wouldn't be a problem if these were beautiful and refined. But this was not the case. A shame, because the location and appearance offer so much potential. This restaurant should abandon the overpriced "shared dining" idea and just serve some tasty Burgundian starters/main courses. Then the focus and attention can be much more on fewer products. Fits perfectly with the beautiful location.

Heerlijk gegeten in een verrassende omgeving met zeer behulpzaam en vriendelijke staff. Aanrader voor zowel met vriendinnen (dit keer) als met gezin heen te gaan want menu is zeer gevarieerd. Plezierige en knusse omgeving. Echt genoten!

Op Kerstavond heerlijk gegeten. Het persoonlijke, handgeschreven welkomstkaartje op de tafel was hartverwarmend en gaf een echt gevoel van 'welkom'. Het eten was zoals gewoonlijk weer buitengewoon heerlijk. Personeel is uitermate attent en behulpzaam. We komen snel weer eens terug! Petra & Richard

Super leuk restaurant met uitgebreide keus, heel vriendelijk personeel en goeie sfeer en natuurlijk heerlijk eten. We vierden een verjaardag en is dankzij Open Keuken een succes geweest.

Very nice decoration, super friendly and lots of staff, great concept with the option to choose several smaller dishes (real dishes, so not a tapas restaurant). Well-prepared dishes. Definitely a return.

Restaurant verlaten met gemengde gevoelens. Een aantal lekkere gerechten gegeten, maar ook zware tegenvallers (de spareribs). Voorgerecht kwam recht uit de koeling (alle onderdelen even koud) en dat ging te koste van de smaak. Personeel vriendelijk maar borden onder je neus weghalen bij de laatste hap voelt niet goed. Elke vierkante centimeter benut, zodat ik totaal ingebouwd zat en me tussen andere tafels moest door wringen.

We hebben wederom heerlijk genoten van de lekkere proefjes, zowel voor als hoofdgerecht. De bediening was vriendelijk en correct, we zijn niet anders gewend. Tot een volgende maal.

De service was aan de langzame kant (zou kunnen omdat we achterin zaten. Drankjes waren lange tijd leeg ook tijdens het eten. Bij de voorgerechten was de tuna tataki vrij hard en extreem koud, leek bijna wel ingevroren. De carpaccio was prima. De hoofdgerechten daarentegen zeker niet. De biefstuk was doorgebakken en erg weinig, de zoete aardappelchips erbij aangebrand. De spareribs waren wel erg goed en lekker. Toen we aankwamen bij de desserts sloeg het weer de andere kant op. De chocolade mousse was dusdanig ‘stevig’ dat het geen mousse meer was te noemen en vrij smakeloos. De crumble die erin hoorde te zitten was niet te merken. De kwaliteit die er voorheen was is niet meer aanwezig. Mogelijk hadden ik en mijn gezelschap pech maar dit was het niet waard helaas.

Atmospheric and beautiful restaurant, we sat next to the kitchen and saw beautiful dishes being served. Service was attentive and welcomed us. The food was surprisingly delicious!

Nice people but food is really special (and not in a good way)

Het duurde erg lang voordat we het menu kregen dat we bestelden. Wat ik kreeg had geen smaak en was koud en bevroren in het midden. Het was oneetbaar, maar het personeel was aardig en uiteindelijk hoefden we niet voor het menu te betalen. Bovendien omdat er een dieet was dat bij mij paste zonder gluten en melk.

Met het FODMAP dieet ben je erg beperkt in wat je mag eten. Kim van De Open Keuken in Hilversum heeft heel erg met mij meegedacht. Heel aardig en lekker gegeten.
