Incredible hospitality, incredibly kind and attentive hosts; you feel welcome and instantly at home. A great deal of attention to our company, enormous passion and dedication, both in the kitchen and in the restaurant itself. What a wonderful evening! And if you don't want wine or a wine pairing from the wine master, there's an alcohol-free package with some truly surprising combinations. A huge wow factor!

This time we tried the lunch. A fantastic culinary experience with a variety of appetizers. The dishes are based on local produce and therefore vary depending on availability. Instead of a wine pairing, we opted for the alcohol-free option, and we didn't regret it. Each dish was accompanied by a matching drink, perfectly complementing the taste of the dish and made by Lutum himself. Everything was passionately explained in a relaxed atmosphere and perfectly executed. Highly recommended, and not just for a special occasion.

Our third visit to Lutum. Since the dishes are made with whatever's available from the garden, meadow, or river, the menu changes frequently. So the pictures are about to spoiler a lot, but at the same time nothing at all. I've been here 3 times now in 4 months time. I have only once been served the same dish twice (the bread dish) and was never served the same wine twice. Meaning you can pretty much go to this restaurant every month and always experience something completely different. And what an experience it has been. The owners are three gentlemen, Rick, Roy and Toby. Rick focusses on the cold dishes, Roy on the hot dishes and Toby is the sommelier and your host most of the time. All three gentlemen are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. They love to interact, so ask them questions and have a chat with them. This is a (not yet famous) restaurant where you can experience incredible food, wonderful wines and a serene ambience, all for a just price. The restaurant is in the heart of the city, which is actually really old. There is even a park with a castle that dates back to the 15th century. So before (or after) your visit you can walk around and also take a cultural stroll through this place.

Lutum review If you are familiar with Noma, you get the general ideas and what to expect from Lutum. My curiosity was fully satisfied with the six-course lunch menu. Food 4.5/5 There were some hits and misses overall, but the good significantly outweigh the bad. First bite we received in this 6-course lunch menu was one of two amuse dishes, which was a trio of corn. The popcorn perfume got us all excited, but the nacho chips were sadly greasy and salty, as if pulled out from a bag of supermarket doritos. Second amuse was a highlight. Three little delicate round morsels which was steam bread with a rendang sauce on top with some leafy green garnishes. The depth of flavor packed in the rendang shows some real culinary chops. Also a nice nod to the contemporary Dutch cuisine. Out of the two vegetable courses, the green bean dish was well executed, with good depth of flavor and texture contrast. The eggplant dish was forgettable, rather bland and soggy. Coaxing flavor from unsexy vegetables is indeed a greater test of skill than cooking a slab of perfectly aged cow. As for the main courses, both the crayfish and wild duck are delightful. Considering the wild nature of these little creatures, you can’t taste a hint of unpleasant muddiness or gaminess from either. Well done to the butchering and the actual cooking. The biggest fail was the entrement: ruby chocolate molded to resemble cherry tomatoes, with real tomato stem on top. Makes one wonder what’s under the skin. Any seasoned diner would know not to expect a bite full of tomatoes. And it wasn’t. Danger alert: it’s not a bite. it’s a balloon. The hard chocolate shell shattered when taking a bite, bursting with tomato-pepper water. We all felt ridiculous and rather underwhelmed by such a strange texture. Then came the dessert. Having two desserts out of a six-course menu is unconventional and even over-weighted in proportion, but luckily both desserts were worth their place. Pumpkin-spiced baba au rum and a bouncy quince sorbet perching on a bed of crunchy, fiery orange shredded pumpkin is both visually pleasing, and appropriately seasonal. The bounciness of the baba and the jelly-like sorbet wants to fight on the plate, and on the tongue. But I can easily overlook this small annoyance, for any restaurant that is willing to go to the length of making baba au rum fresh for dessert is a plus in my book. Second dessert is much more restrained and grown-up. A leaf-shaped mouse enrobed in a icy green tone taste as just as herbaceous as its appearance suggests. Light, complex, and cohesive. Well done. Service 5/5 Service has been attentive and friendly. The crew is overall young, all sharp and engaged. That is the sign of a collaborative, emerging enterprise. Atmosphere 3/5 The restaurant is small and the interior is rather laid-back and bare bones. You get a good view of the charcoal and grill from the semi-open kitchen on the way to your table. None is this is particularly refined, but fitting for the style and philosophy of the establishment. The dried roots and shovel decorating the walls ties the theme together. Nevertheless, I do have a bone to pick with the restrooms. After going down a narrow flight of stairs, one has to carefully navigate through a path of tiles set in a bed of small pebbles to use the restroom. Perhaps the decor choice was meant to evoke the sense of a Japanese zen garden, but unfortunately it failed. Finding my way to the restroom under these conditions is an challenge in not getting tripped over. This part of the restaurant feels rather clumsy and cheap. value for money 5/5 Despite some small flaws here and there, the overall experience has been positively refreshing for our party of 3. With the amount of effort and diversity shown in the menu, the price tag is worth every penny. All the better for diners, since the barrier to entry is lowered. Dutch fine dining has become so static and formulaic that it is rather exciting to see young chef breaking out of the mold and taking a different approach.

Food was beautifully presented, delicious and thoughtful. Wine recommendations were appropriate, and the wines were also delicious Exceeded our expectations, thank you all for making this a wonderful night!

Fantastic restaurant! I love coming here. I recommend this experience to everyone! Every season, and practically every two weeks, there are new dishes to discover. And what dishes they are! The wine pairings are always excellent, and I always look forward to sommelier Toby's explanations. Mees always manages to put a smile on my face. What a wonderful evening! A table for four at the chef's table. It's perfectly clear what a well-oiled kitchen crew is like. People who understand each other perfectly with just a few words. The friendly, easy-going, and spontaneous staff in the kitchen and on the waitstaff. We chose the ethereal menu with the accompanying arrangement. Fantastic dishes, a beautiful blend of flavors, right down to the final dessert. The accompanying wines were delicious and paired perfectly. The variety of beautiful glassware and tableware completed the experience! In our opinion, the cutlery, especially the tableware, didn't really match the dishes. An impressive evening. We were surprised several times: exceptional bread, a mint that turns into a wipe, a hand spray for the optimal taste experience, fantastic stories about the wine and food, which made it all even more appealing. The service was pleasant, smooth, and delightfully spontaneous. And personal attention from the owners... We will be back! If I may mention one point for improvement: the cutlery is too large for the beautiful bowls in which the food is presented.

We’ve eaten at many fine dining places, but this place was so in sync: the service was informal yet extremely professional and knowledgeable, you felt the team dynamics were excellent. The kitchen made the courses memorable not only by taste, but by challenging different senses whether it was smell or just something sentimental to read. Above all the sommelier Toby, was extremely knowledgeable and amicable which made you feel like you were part of the wine experience instead of the receiving end only. It felt like the new restaurant style where unreasonable hospitality felt into place: above and beyond. All in all, highly recommended place, we will be back for sure :)!

We had a wonderful meal at Lutum. We had an 8-course menu, and every dish was delicious. I still dream about the crayfish dish. The service was excellent, and the terrace where we sat was lovely. The alcohol-free package was also a real hit. I had the wine, which was also very good, but it's nice when the alcohol-free package is also something special and they really try to create something interesting for those who can't/don't want to drink. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to others, and I'd love to come back for a different season to see what's on the menu!

A good friend and I went to Lutum yesterday. We'd been looking forward to it so much, and yesterday afternoon we were also really looking forward to it. Because their story is true, their Instagram is fantastic, and the reviews are practically all glowing. But yes, do they live up to it? Does everything fall into place? Uhm… YES!!! Holy moly, what an experience, a culinary experience. Superlatives are simply not enough for me. I've had the pleasure of visiting quite a few Michelin-starred restaurants in recent years, but this was by far the best overall experience. From arrival at 7:00 PM to departure at 11:50 PM, you're pampered as if it were your last meal. The local ingredients sublimely incorporated into the 8-course menu, the enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff, and the warm atmosphere. It was simply amazing! In short, go see/taste/smell it! Yes, because even smelling is a beautiful part of the experience. Immerse yourself in the world of Lutum; you won't regret it! 100% sure see you again!

This is one of the best restaurants I’ve visited ever! The food is amazing, we loved everything we tried. We appreciated they did it faster by request bc we were in a hurry. We celebrated birthday and the team signed a card for us what was very cute. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they speak languages very well! Thanks for this fantastic experience!

We had the long menu for dinner at Lutum and we loved the whole experience (almost 3.5 hours). With pretty much all of the courses we were surprised by interesting flavours and textures (which I won't spoil, of course!); we found the food incredibly inspiring. Moreover, the staff was very kind in explaining the dishes and answering our questions about the preparation of the food throughout; they made us feel very welcome. Lastly: Instead of the drink pairing we had a few glasses of wine and their homemade kombucha as we went along. The latter was a very interesting surprise, we would very much recommend it. Overall: it was a really lovely night, that we very much recommend. We will definitely come back.

The atmosphere is refreshing, and the dishes are always beautifully crafted, surprising, healthy, and adventurously delicious. Sharing a quarter of a century together deserves to be celebrated, so I wanted to take my wife out to a Michelin-starred restaurant. An evening of delicious food together, in a pleasant atmosphere, and of course, in each other's company. In my online search, I came across Lutum in Wijk bij Duurstede, and the philosophy of Rik, Roy, and Toby appealed to me: local, fresh, seasonal produce, and thus giving free rein to their creativity. Spoiler alert: it was amazing! The refined flavor combinations that these gentlemen, along with their team of talented colleagues, presented with each (intermediate) course and amuse-bouche were a source of wonder, conversation, and lip-smacking food. Oh, and the craving for more... My wife opted for the wine pairing, and I indulged in the alcohol-free arrangement. Here, too, we were surprised with each course by the beautiful harmony between food and drink. Since a 6-course menu in combination with... Amuse-bouches and intermediate courses culminate in a dinner of about four hours. And with too many experiences to describe, I won't name and analyze every course. Moreover, the menu changes so frequently that by the time you read this, the dish in question will almost certainly no longer be on the menu. In short, this is the place to be gastronomically surprised and pampered. We had booked the Chef's Table, but because of the beautiful weather, we dined on the terrace for a large part of the evening. For desserts, we went inside and were allowed to take a seat at the kitchen bar, where we could watch the team in action. The tranquility here is almost serene. There's a harmonious team, each member clearly aware of their role and communicating calmly. The attention to detail, focus, and pride in what is created radiate from the team. And to think that the average age of the entire team is barely around 30… Incidentally, the staff was very friendly and everyone was very willing to answer our questions about the preparation. As the icing on the cake, we received a personal card with congratulations from all the team members – very thoughtful! Sorry, to fully enjoy the evening, we decided to leave our phones in our pockets and not take pictures of the dishes. You'll have to go there to see and experience it for yourself! Is there really nothing to complain about? Not really, but to keep the team somewhat grounded, let me mention two things: 1. We couldn't find the restaurant. The entrance is tucked away in a courtyard that can only be reached through an underpass, and the sign on the street is somewhat hidden among signs of other businesses. Perhaps an attempt to keep it a "best kept secret." 2. One of the non-alcoholic drinks wasn't quite to my personal taste. Just a tad too bitter and spicy, but again, that's a personal preference. In short, nothing to report at all!

What a surprise! Refined flavors, a perfectly matched alcoholic (for me) and non-alcoholic (for my husband) pairing. A very balanced menu, with a focus on local produce. I was very surprised by the complexity of the desserts compared to the rest of the refined flavors. A truly innovative restaurant.

What a surprisingly good restaurant! A beautiful concept too, all dishes made from regional products, 8 courses (plus amuses) for meat and vegetarian main course, 6 courses (plus amuses) for meat or vegetarian (in our case), so something for everyone. All dishes are very tasty and beautifully presented, the wine arrangement is very well chosen, with sometimes a choice for an extra good wine (recommended). Alcohol-free arrangement very varied and also very satisfying. With a few courses (especially the kohlrabi plus matching wine) tears of emotion, I have not often experienced that, rarely eaten such beautiful and tasty dishes! The staff should also not go unmentioned, enthusiastic, attentive, knowledgeable, professional but always warm and sometimes quite personal, that contributes greatly to the great atmosphere in the beautiful restaurant. Truly a 'source of wonder', nice to combine with a weekend away to Wijk bij Duurstede, which is a very nice town with a beautiful history, lots to see and do (and easy to reach with bus 41 from Utrecht).

It was once again a great experience. I ate at Lutum when it didn't have a star yet, and now it does. The carefully prepared fresh products, the paintings on the plate, truly surprising taste sensations, the friendly service and delicious matching wines: everything was in harmony. The beautiful summer evening completed the picture. As you can read, I am incredibly enthusiastic about this restaurant and will definitely come back again.

It has been more than a month since we had dinner here. I had made a reservation more than 3 months in advance and expectations were high. Then it can only be disappointing. We are used to quite a lot when it comes to food, but we were blown away by 6 courses. Refined, innovative and thanks to the hyperlocal approach you don't have to feel guilty about your ecological footprint. An atmospheric restaurant where you have enough space even on a busy Saturday night and an enthusiastic service that is not only attentive, but above all personal make the party complete.

We ventured into the Discovery here. What a beautiful menu, all ingredients from the region that were still unknown to me. The service is very personal and their knowledge of the menu and the wines is excellent. In addition to the dishes from the menu, you also get delicious sourdough bread with an even more delicious herb butter. It's been a few weeks now, but I still smell of that fantastic bread!

Lutum's vision of cooking with what nature brings really appealed to us in advance. The dishes are fantastic, they match the seasons and they use unique ingredients. Many restaurants fail to offer a juice pairing at a high level, but they succeeded in that too. Both the juices and the wines matched the dishes perfectly. In addition, the team's work pleasure is reflected in the service. Really recommended!

Expectations are always tricky, especially when you've been following a restaurant for years. If you're still blown away, you're really worthy of all your stars. I honestly struggle for words to describe how much I truly enjoy eating here. The owners all have a passion for what they are doing that you feel from the moment you enter until walk out the front door. This may not be a place you eat at every week, month, or year but it is an experience that you should give yourself at the very least once. We opted for the 8-course Ethereal menu and enjoyed all the surprising dishes. Tasty and beautiful preparation and presentation of as many local products as possible. The friendly young service could develop further to bring it up to par with the quality of the kitchen, but that's just the finishing touches. Definitely recommended.
