Wow! What an evening… The food, the wines, the service… all fantastic. Deliciously pronounced flavors, fantastic input regarding the wine choices, and a lovely ambiance. We were also allowed to take a look at the wine cellar. Impressive. Let Toby do his thing with the wine selection. We will definitely be back. Worth every euro.

Everything, absolutely EVERYTHING, is perfect at Restaurant Lutum. The town of Wijk bij Duurstede – the entrance to the restaurant via a small courtyard – the centuries-old building – the welcome – the friendly, extremely service-oriented staff, yet above all not too stiff – the way the restaurant is decorated – the lighting plan in the restaurant – and of course, the food and wines. A total experience that scores 100%. Highly recommended.

If you really want something special and delicious, then you have to go here. Good concept, friendly service, excellent wine list.

Recently, I thought: I’m going to look for a nice restaurant that focuses heavily on sustainability and local food. After a short search, I ended up at Lutum in Wijk bij Duurstede. And rightly so! After a pleasant city walk in the very beautiful 'Dorestad', I was able to take my table on the terrace. A stunning view of a lovely garden with fruit trees, surrounded by old walls, gives you the feeling of dining in a bygone era. The restaurant itself is also housed in a beautiful old building; the ambiance feels familiar and exudes peace and hospitality. The staff were ready to assist me with everything: from charging my electric vehicle to potentially moving me to the chef's table. They are friendly gentlemen and are attentive to your wishes as a guest, without being overbearing. They enjoy a joke and are appropriately polite. The atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy. Since I was dining alone, the attention of the people at the table next to me was drawn to me. I had pleasant conversations with them about what moves us so deeply on earth. When a new wine or course was presented, the service was uncomplicated. In fact, a number of dishes were presented to both tables simultaneously. This created a pleasant, informal atmosphere. The staff, together with my fellow guests, contributed to an unforgettable evening. I will now attempt to devote a few words to the food. Chefs Rik and Roy certainly do not make it easy for themselves by cooking both locally and sustainably. However, that was precisely the reason I came to dine with them. And they certainly did not disappoint me. With their creative minds, they manage to create beautiful dishes from many (sometimes, in my opinion, relatively uninteresting) vegetables and products. The selection from the vegetable garden and livestock farmer changes quickly and frequently, which also explains some of the choices. I found the explanation provided at my table by Chef Rik enlightening, and moreover, he is a pleasant conversational partner. The 8-course 'Etherisch' menu offers a beautiful array of dishes. The dining experience begins with an amuse-bouche, preceded by a perfume to stimulate the sense of smell. The amuse-bouches are delightful taste sensations, presented in an almost comical manner. The grill/BBQ is used extensively, and such smoky flavors are beautifully reflected in a number of dishes. It is too much to list everything, so here are a few dishes that stood out to me. The first course of brook trout really appealed to me: the caressing texture of the fish, combined with a spicy gooseberry on a pleasant crunch of celery. A successful flavor combination! Course 6 of (naturally very local) lamb with scallion was also lovely. The meat was delicious in flavor, soft in the mouth, with a firm peppery note. Accompanied by a smooth wine, selected by sommelier Toby Saddetan. A beautiful course! Finally, I would like to mention the first dessert: a delicious cream with hints of hay, served with a flavorful plum jam and caressing ice cream. Delicious! I would like to frame a small point of feedback as follows: because Rik and Roy cook almost entirely locally, they face a number of challenges. Some products are not available within that philosophy, or are ruled out due to distance or other reasons. This is a conscious choice, and they manage to implement it very well; their creativity and experience support them greatly in this regard. What struck me was that, in return, some local products reappear more frequently. For instance, I discovered basil and peppers in dishes on several occasions, almost in abundance. Because some products recur regularly, one might notice that there is occasionally a certain one-sidedness in the menu. As a result, some dishes are a bit superficial, which is just a little unfortunate. But once again: above all, I have great respect for the way they are tackling the local and sustainable challenge here! I really enjoyed the overall experience of the evening. There is a strong team here that is working hard to develop; I am curious to see what the future holds. All in all, I look back on a successful experience at restaurant Lutum and would therefore highly recommend it to others!

We visited Lutum after trying some of their dishes for the first time at BITE in Amsterdam. Intrigued by their cuisine, less than a month later we went to try their restaurant. It was a fantastic culinary experience: excellent dishes, rich in technique, creativity, and attention to detail. You can sense the great work that goes into every dish. We were pleasantly surprised and can't wait to return.

We visited Lutum again. This time for the vegetable garden experience, and that wasn't our first time either. The entire restaurant has been relocated to the place where many of the ingredients come from, namely the Telers van de Put. After a tour of the garden, we had a 6-course dinner at two long tables under a tent canopy, this year for shade. The dishes were just as creative and of a consistently high standard as in the restaurant, and we also enjoyed a pleasant time at the table. In short, a fantastic evening. We will definitely be back next year; highly recommended.

For our daughter, who just turned 40, we wanted to give her an experience, so we went out to dinner with Mom and Dad at a top-level restaurant that aligns with her principles. We succeeded! It was pricey, but not exceptional for a Michelin star.

Even Michelin makes mistakes sometimes…… We recently dined at Lutum. We opted for a 7-course dinner with wine pairing (half glasses) for €575. Given the majority of reviews visitors have had at Lutum, we (unfortunately) certainly did not share this experience. Over the years, we have had the pleasure of dining at various starred restaurants; however, we considered what was presented here to be substandard. There is no accounting for taste……but apparently, Lutum’s taste is not ours. Added to that was the fact that Lutum prides itself on the adage “total experience”..... I do have a few remarks about that. Firstly: charging €17 for water on a bill of €575 strikes us as a penny-pinching mentality. Secondly: upon returning home, we discovered that our clothes stank. (We had a table directly opposite the open kitchen). Our clothes hung outside for two days and the smell still hadn't gone away. But now comes the biggest point of criticism. I (I think) sent an email to Lutum regarding the critical points in the correct manner. I noted that I felt it was only right to make our complaints known directly to Lutum, rather than doing so via an open review site. I received a response stating that this was appreciated. After that, they addressed my criticism regarding the smelly clothing and the water. In short, the answer boiled down to this: the €17 water was part of the “total experience” of their restaurant, and that it was specially filtered tap water….!? As for our clothing: It was impossible for our clothing to smell, because Lutum has a special extraction system in the kitchen. No apologies, nothing. I sent another response indicating that our complaint was not fabricated and that we were disappointed with their response. Since then, we have heard nothing more. Truly class, Lutum! So apparently even Michelin sometimes makes a mistake regarding the term “total experience.”

This is one of the best restaurants we have eaten at. Very relaxed atmosphere and fantastic dishes made exclusively with local ingredients. A solid 10 for Lutum.

I missed this mainly because they didn't contact us beforehand to confirm the reservation (a first for me) and poured still water after clearly stating it was sparkling twice. She also briefly forgot the word "wild" (I think) and, after double-checking with a colleague, skipped it. A real nitpick compared to the rest of the evening, but important if you want to keep or increase your star rating! Definitely recommended for anyone who wants a delicious evening out while keeping their carbon footprint low 👌

In general, it was very nice experience. Definitely above most 1 star in the Netherlands! You can feel and taste the chef is trying something outside of box. The highlights are desserts, I don’t like most of desserts but they really surprised me. Looking forward to seeing their summer menu. Some observations: I can still taste big influence of traditional French cuisine. The palates are quite towards French food. For me sometimes they are a bit salty and too much onion/shallots😅. Compares to food, the wine pairing is very conservative! Most of them are “traditional” wines. I would highly recommend to go bold with the wines!!!

Awesome lunch at Lutum with friends. The wild boar with celeriac dish was the highlight. Beautiful wine pairings, easy vibe, no rush. The kind of place where you would like to come back to.

After a wonderful Vivaldi concert with a Masterclass, we thought we'd find a perfect ending at this restaurant. We were disappointed. The staff works enthusiastically and presents the drinks and dishes with great enthusiasm, but the buzz in the room, which overpowers the background music, completely ruined it for us. The food is described in detail and expertly, but in most cases, it lacks the taste experience you expect in a Michelin-star restaurant. It's a real search for that experience, but it barely comes through. We discussed this with the chef, and he attributed it to a culture shock we, as Belgians, experienced in this Dutch restaurant. This is certainly true for the atmosphere, but certainly not for the food. The dishes are too elaborate and lack the flavors inherent to the product. This makes it difficult to award a star; 15 G&M is also a bit much. I hope something is done about our experience; otherwise, I see no justification for Michelin valuing the star level differently in the Netherlands than in Belgium.

We had a wonderful time at the chef's table at Lutum! An 8-course meal full of surprises. It's not cheap, but it's worth it. Fantastic food, good drinks (including non-alcoholic), and a very relaxed atmosphere. You can taste the passion of the people who do what they do, and it's evident throughout the entire experience!
