Restaurant Van Beeren in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

Birthday ruined. We made a reservation, but shortly before dinner, they canceled for no reason.

They cancelled my reservation for 9 people the same evening of the dinner, for no reason.

I visited yesterday. They were very kind to me as a foreigner, and the food was excellent.

A very good restaurant, slightly away from the hustle and bustle. A young, motivated team does a fantastic job here. I highly recommend trying the artichoke. The chicken and steak were also very good.

Great place for local Dutch food. Bit outside of the touristy restaurants so it's definitely more of a local feel. The staff is very friendly and the food was some of best I had.

We stopped for a quick drink and a few snacks. The staff were really friendly and found us a nice table in the lovely garden. I had a very reasonably priced glass of wine and a few fries to stave off hunger until dinner. Everything was really chilled and relaxed. A perfect escape from the chaos of the city centre.

Recently taken over by new owners and really great to see that the old atmosphere has been preserved. Affordable food, casual atmosphere, good wine. Very nice terrace at the back and friendly service!

Absolute most favourite restaurant experience whilst in Amsterdam and one I’ll cherish forever. Food was impeccable (and very well priced), staff super friendly and vibes high.

Unpretentious honest food, friendly waiters and reasonable price. Food was so good I forgot to take pictures until it’s time for desserts. We ordered steak and prawn, both executed perfectly.

While planning our trip to Amsterdam, we wanted to make a few dinner reservations and came across Eetcafe Van Beeren after it was recommended by a local Instagram influencer as a great place to experience traditional Dutch food. We booked an early dinner at 5:30 pm, which worked perfectly with our plans for the day. It turned out to be a wise decision, as the restaurant quickly became very busy and we noticed that several people who arrived without reservations weren’t able to get a table. The menu offered an excellent selection of appetisers, starters, main courses, and desserts. We all chose different dishes, which gave us the chance to try a variety of options, and every meal was thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, the service was excellent, and the waiters were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Highly recommended. If you’re planning a trip to Amsterdam and would like to experience some local cuisine in a traditional setting, Van Beeren is definitely worth a visit.

Really great! The food is excellent, with "homemade" dishes chosen from a very simple menu. The decor is authentic. And above all, the staff takes care of the customers with uncommon kindness. All of this creates a warm atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Had a delicious meal, explained well what the dish is

I haven't been blown away by the service or food this much all year as I have here. From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home, even though we had never been there before. For a price you hardly find anywhere else in Amsterdam, we had a delicious meal. While I was licking the sauce off my plate with my finger, the attentive service even offered me extra bread. Simply amazing!!

Service and atmosphere was excellent but sadly the food has changed with the renovation and it doesn’t taste fresh and homemade anymore. The fries are frozen and like a fast food takeaway (FEBO or McDonald’s), not freshly made with potatoes like they used to be. The mayo was watery in consistency with no flavour, not like it used to be. The other dishes we had also either had no flavour or tasted synthetic, like sauces were from a jar not homemade. I really hope they bring back the freshly made food from before as it was so delicious and the renovation inside is really nice and service from staff was great. I’d be happy to pay more for freshly cooked, home made food.

I ate a delicious fish of the day and could understand my companions perfectly without them having to shout (I am a bit deaf), and the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed.

Nice eatery and the service is quick and friendly. Unfortunately, as many small tables as possible are placed right next to each other, so we were sitting right in the middle of the conversation of the three people next to us. We couldn't hear each other anymore. So we left quickly after dinner. A shame, that wasn't the case before.

Amazing place, I eat here every time I'm in Amsterdam. Phenomenal staff, so very cool. I am usually the only tourist there, and they treat me very well - not special, just great service. And the food is amazing. Small place, make reservations or eat at the bar. I love it!

Warm atmosphere, we were walk in customers and shown to a table that could seat 4 even though I presumed to go for the table for 2. Very lovely

Great Dutch restaurant. Very friendly, informal service and absolutely delicious food. I had eggplant with pomegranate and pine nuts as a starter and cod fillet as a main course. Cozy, rustic ambiance.

The food was fine, one comment: the drinks were very frugal in quantity, not quite stingy.

Very solid pork loin roast. Nice accompaniment of potato salad and fennel. Good size portion. Bread was a bit dry but nice to have. Lovely young service crew, friendly and engaging. Atmosphere feels like an old bar, but has been a pub only since the 1980s if I recall the history. Worth a visit.

A Classic eetcafé. Beautiful location near the metro and Nieuwmarket but not in the hustle and bustle. A wonderful garden in the back of the cafe for outdoor space. Great menu items and drinks. This place is a classic and worth visiting! I was only there for a quick visit but will return with friends for a nice meal and drinks.

Faster than before, delicious food. I only mentioned an allergy twice, both when booking and ordering, and they still told me about the product I'm allergic to. I saw it in time, so it went well, but the kitchen was a bit sloppy.

A fantastic traditional Amsterdam pub, with super friendly staff—anything but Amsterdam's arrogant. Wow! The taco with pulpo, tomato salsa, and salsa verde really had everything that makes such a dish "now," more than usual: refreshingly sour, sweet, and spicy. Delicious!

We spent four days in Amsterdam...it was the best meal of our trip! It was only four minutes from our houseboat! The ravioli were amazing! The beef steak with grilled vegetables was excellent! The fries and tiramisu were also so delicious! We'll definitely be back next time!

The food at Van Beeren is excellent, and the service is excellent until you've paid, because then the staff no longer has a clear view of the guests. It's a shame.

The five of us enjoyed a delicious meal; the steak, spare ribs, and mackerel fillet were all delicious. Service was fast, and the staff were welcoming upon arrival but less attentive once we were almost finished.

Very good traditional cafe with typical fish and grilled meat dishes. We had a bacon and apple crepe for dessert with a glass of juniper liqueur: delicious! Very good musical atmosphere, young and friendly service

A cozy cafe with a small menu. We spontaneously dropped in with our toddler. First, we were served olives and a carafe of water. Before the main course, we were served two types of bread with aioli. We sat in the garden, and the food and service were very good. Unfortunately, our little one got too restless. I would have liked to try dessert.

The best restaurant we visited during our short stay in Amsterdam. The prices were much lower, about half the price of other places in tourist areas. The food was very tasty. It was actually the first restaurant we tried in Amsterdam, and after that, no other place could compare. The other restaurants were more expensive and the food wasn’t as good. The service here was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. They even gave us free starters, which no other restaurant did. We really enjoyed eating here and would definitely recommend it :)

The place is pleasant and the service was very kind. The food isn't the best, but it also depends on what we expect from places like this.

Lovely little local spot. It was nice to eat somewhere quiet in the big city, and see a lot of locals enjoying the same. Very attentive staff, very cozy interior, and a beautiful rear garden seating area. A little pricey but comparable to all the other restaurants in Amsterdam, although the food quality was certainly higher coming from a local kitchen.

Super nice, rustic restaurant with a very good, down-to-earth and solid menu. Every day there is a changing soup of the day, the fish of the day or the dish of the day (with meat). There are also vegetarian and vegan dishes. The food was absolutely delicious, well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The staff is very nice and friendly. Keep it up!

Van Beeren has been a hidden gem for years, just a stone's throw from the Nieuwmarkt, where you always feel welcome. The food never disappoints and the price/quality ratio is (un-Amsterdam) excellent! The choice of specialty beers on tap is simply plentiful and the Van Beeren beer (Beertje) is simply great. The spareribs fall off the bone and melt in your tongue. Superlatives simply fall short, let's hope that tourists don't discover Van Beeren because here you will still find old-fashioned Amsterdam conviviality without any frills, under the inspiring leadership of Stephan!

We made a reservation with a group of 30 people and got a spot! Food and drink came super quickly and was delicious. The steak was a little more on the “rare” side than the desired medium rare, but it was still very tasty (since we came to eat with so many people, I can understand that the food had to come out quickly.) I would love to go back!

Very friendly and good service. The place was full of happy people eating on a normal weekday evening, so it might be good to make a table reservation. The food was good and the price was appropriate. There were a couple of steps to the toilet facilities, so it is probably possible for people with reduced mobility to go with help (i guess that staff help ), not alone. The place also had a nice courtyard, which unfortunately was already closed due to the late hour. The garden has to be closed already at 20:00 according to what I heard. Good place to enjoy an evening with friends or otherwise.
