Restaurant Van Beeren in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

We made a reservation with a group of 30 people and got a spot! Food and drink came super quickly and was delicious. The steak was a little more on the “rare” side than the desired medium rare, but it was still very tasty (since we came to eat with so many people, I can understand that the food had to come out quickly.) I would love to go back!

The food is excellent and is done in a good mood (with a background of metal rock/indie) and the service, while relaxed, remains very efficient, a good experience

Very friendly and good service. The place was full of happy people eating on a normal weekday evening, so it might be good to make a table reservation. The food was good and the price was appropriate. There were a couple of steps to the toilet facilities, so it is probably possible for people with reduced mobility to go with help (i guess that staff help ), not alone. The place also had a nice courtyard, which unfortunately was already closed due to the late hour. The garden has to be closed already at 20:00 according to what I heard. Good place to enjoy an evening with friends or otherwise.

We had dinner here with friends. It was a beautiful summer day, so we sat outside in the city garden. Cozy furnishings and very friendly service! We had delicious carpaccio and vitello tonato beforehand. As a main course an angus steak, spare ribs and the dish of the day (procureur with roquefort sauce). Delicious fries, so a great meal! Unfortunately no photos were taken. Oh and the rose was delicious too!

Small restaurant made entirely of wood, with Dutch cuisine (but also some Italian dishes such as vitello tonnato!), where you can breathe an authentic atmosphere. We ate well. spent the right amount. I booked much earlier. The wines are also excellent. Super recommended if you want to avoid too touristy places. Kind service.

Cozy brown pub has been serving good cafe-plus food for years. Prices are now suddenly moving rapidly towards fine dining. Although we used to come here often, Van Beeren is now no longer our regular go-to. For these prices we can eat better in the area. Unfortunately!

Very tasty food, as usual. New staff. I always order extra so I can take it home. Today they threw everything away. "Didn't know you wanted it." Clearly said and a whole dish left?! Bizarre!! Shame.

A must stop when I return to Amsterdam. Local restaurant with simple cuisine and generous portions.

Nice tent with hidden courtyard. Nice food but long wait for simple order. We wanted dessert but again it took too long (after we already said something about it) so we left.

The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating- they were able to fit us in on a busy Saturday with NO reservation. Ribs were fantastic as was the lamb. I cannot recommend this place enough- cannot wait to return in the summer to sit on the back patio.

I got the radicchio salad with pan seared blood sausage as my appetizer and the Dutch game stew with poached pear, mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables as my main. Everything was around 40 Euros. Food was delicious and the staff are friendly, attentive, and made the atmosphere very welcoming. Would love to come back and try the other things on the menu

Van Beeren is a pearl in the city center. Excellent service and an atmosphere you won't find anywhere else. The food is very good for an Amsterdam cafe and I will come back for that. A top spot everywhere.

Thanks to a friend, we were able to go to the best restaurant in Amsterdam. The atmosphere was very nice and calm, and the food was very delicious. I would like to visit again.

Came there often. Atmosphere good. Service too. Now look for price quality. Dessert 12.50 with reduced portion (from 3 to 2 scoops of ice cream). Cup with 22 fries for 3 people (see photos in other reviews). Why don't people distinguish themselves by frying one more potato or eliminating a scoop of ice cream? Not anymore for the time being. I realize that many people settle for high prices and mediocre quality in Amsterdam. See the positive reviews. The manager will read this review with a smile and act from the thought that there are many others for me who don't care what they eat and pay.

Restaurant with good homemade Dutch cuisine. We had mushroom soup, fish and steak, all simple but very good. The service was very friendly and the place was unpretentious but warm and pleasant.

Cibo ottimo e personale simpatico

This classic Dutch "eetcafé" has a pleasant, authentic interior and friendly service. In the summer you can sit outside in a beautiful garden. The very traditional menu is mostly different types of meat+fries. I had the gratinated mussels and the coq au vin. Both were very salty but lacked any interesting flavors. Quite disappointing, also considering the price (25€ for a chicken leg). The fries were very good. This place could be great, but the kitchen should really up its game.

Since this place is listed as a restaurant, I have to give two stars because of the food. The service was great, and if you want a beer and some chips I cannot recommend it highly enough. If, however, your intent is to eat - go somewhere else. I ordered the soup of the day - a bisque that was mostly butter - and then the portobello mushroom and risotto. I cannot stress enough how poorly this dish was prepared. Firstly, the plate was scalding hot; a sure sign someone had made a mistake and left it too long, thereafter trying to convince the customer of heat with a hot plate. Sure enough, the mushrooms and melted taleggio were lukewarm. I ate them anyway because I don’t like waste. The risotto underneath was actually mashed rice. I’ve never seen that before. It was warmer than the mushrooms above it due to its proximity to the molten plate below, but this did nothing to distract from the fact that it was MASHED RICE. I couldn’t eat it. Please someone talk to the chef and check if they are ok and happy in their work, because no self-respecting cook should send that out and if they do they’re having some sort of a bad time. Anyway, as I said; nice place to have a beer and the chips are fantastic.

Hier met collega's een hapje gegeten. Erg lekker, door de drukte wel wat rumoerig maar niet storend eerder gezellig. Eten was lekker, bediening was vriendelijk en de sfeer was gezellig.

Okay maar erg lawaaierig. Simpele kaart maar dat is prima voor deze keuken. Een van de weinige restaurants waar je nog een karaf water op tafel krijgt. Top service.

Rasober Stéphan heeft de avond gered. In het verleden kwamen we regelmatig (1x per 2 maanden) bij Van Beeren om iets te drinken en/of te eten. Het is een typische, Amsterdamse pijpenla, met een mooi barretjes en enthousiast personeel. Ze hebben een overzichtelijke kaart met voornamelijke Frans-Nederlandse gerechten. Niet teveel poespas, maar wel kwalitatieve gerechten en wijnen. Deze avond viel het echter behoorlijk tegen. Dat lag niet aan rasover Stéphan die voor ons de avond heeft gered. Sympathiek in deze tijden: het kraanwater is gratis, je hoeft géén aanbetaling te doen om te reserveren en ook de olijfjes met brood staan niet op de rekening. Daardoor voel je je direct welkom, ondanks dat je soms krap zit. We hadden nu het achterste tafeltje tegen de muur aan (linkerkant vanaf de straat gezien). Ergerlijk is dat gasten én personeel de deur naar de toiletten openlaten. Daardoor zit je soms op de tocht (in het najaar). We bestellen slakken met champignons, die erg goed smaken met goede olie. Als tweede voorgerecht een plantaardige carpaccio en die valt erg tegen. We hadden reepjes oesterzwammen verwacht, maar het is een zurig, kwabbig geheel met wat pepers en ondefinieerbare oranje blokjes groente. We vertellen eerlijk aan de ober wat er mis is met de gerechten en hij pakt het heel sportief op. Bij het voorgerecht biedt hij ons een extra glas rode wijn aan, maar dat slaan we af. We hebben dan nog goede hoop op de hoofdgerechten. We spelen op ‘safe’: Coq au vin en Hachee. Maar de eerste heeft een enorm zure saus (beaamd door de ober) én de haan is niet mals maar droog en taai. We krijgen allebei buikkrampen. Ook de groente erbij zijn eerder lentegroente dan najaarsgroente. De hachee is eerlijk gezegd niet veel beter. Het rundvlees is te droog gegaard, ook de rode kooi is heel zurig. Ook nu aan Stéphan eerlijk verteld en hij zegt zelf ook de saus van de Coq au vin te hebben geproefd en het niet goed te vinden. Dan komt ook het hoge woord eruit: de chefkok is ziek. Ze moeten roeien met de riemen die ze hebben. Hij biedt ons een chocolade truffel aan, die we nu wel aannemen en ook de koffie en thee is gratis. Door zijn sportieve houding en zijn extra service gaan we toch met een redelijk positief gevoel weg. Maar het duurt toch nog wel even voordat we weer terugkomen, hopelijk wordt de chef snel beter!

Prachtig eetcafé in het centrum van Amsterdam. Mét heerlijk eten en fijne bediening!

What a wonderful place to have my retirement party. There were 21 of us and we loved the food. It came out when expected and all at the same time. Service was excellent.

We came here for dinner on a Friday night, it was really busy but the staff were really lovely and the service was great. The atmosphere was really good as well even though it was busy. I had the steak and my husband had the eggplant for dinner, we both absolutely loved our food and we were really full afterwards. The chips were amazing. We both had the Beertje in-house beer with our food which we both loved as well. Would really recommend.

It's a pretty good place. The steak was excellent 👌👍 and the beer was awesome! Love the atmosphere there, too. We were outside, it was also fine and peaceful.
