Christmas dinner at De Nachtwacht. Quality time! A wide selection of menu items, a relaxed atmosphere, excellent preparation, and very attentive service. Hats off to the kitchen too! Despite the crowds and extensive menu, the taste and cooking were excellent. Definitely worth repeating.

Everything was fine, except we were seated near the stairwell...it was very cold there. Very drafty. Such a shame. We were given a blanket to hang over the fence. We won't be using this place again in the winter.

We were looking for a charming, yet completely unknown, tapas-serving restaurant in the area. I have to say, we found it quite well! The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and not overly present, and the restaurant has a cozy, casual atmosphere! We'll definitely be back!

We had a wonderful meal at De Nachtwacht earlier this year! But unfortunately, last night was our last time with the other concept, tapas. Portions are too large, so you're already full after two rounds. It was too greasy, lacking any "real" flavor, but the pollo was so spicy you couldn't taste anything, and my husband got sick that evening. The tuna tataki was ice cold and not at the right temperature. The waitress was very friendly but occasionally didn't know what she was serving. Unfortunately, we won't be back.

For us, it was a one-time thing, and never again. Several tapas weren't tasty. The salmon was dry, the steak was tough, and the chicken and sausages were greasy. A dish was also swapped and forgotten twice. And sometimes it took quite a while for the food to arrive.

The menu is quite unusual. It lists very small dishes as main courses (e.g., 6 prawns for €5.50). I opted for a hamburger because that way I was guaranteed a full meal. My companion opted for pizza, which is a good option if you like cheese, as the layer of cheese was three times as thick as the crust.

Nice restaurant with good food, friendly staff, and affordable. We arrived half an hour early but were able to be seated earlier without any problem.

Unfortunately, it was busy (just a normal Saturday, I think) and we therefore had to wait a very long time for our food. The unlimited tapas was so disappointing that after an hour and a half, we only had one more round. Unfortunately, this wasn't good enough. Too bad. The location is beautiful and the food is excellent.

It was very noisy in there; it was hard to hear each other because of the loud music. The echo resonated loudly upstairs where the restaurant is.

I would keep the restaurant and bar entrances separate. Otherwise, the service was excellent and the food was delicious!

The food was delicious! The service was good. We had a reservation for 6 p.m., but we arrived a bit earlier, and it was fine. The atmosphere was good, but it was quiet. The heater didn't seem to be on, though. But... I'll definitely go back soon; it was delicious!

Friendly service and a beautiful building. I initially thought I was in the wrong place because I'd entered a pub, but the dining area is upstairs. Unfortunately, I didn't find the food very tasty, and the portions were too large for tapas. I'm a good eater, but I was almost full after two rounds. This is a shame because there's plenty on the menu to try. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed, and I ended up getting quite sick later that evening. 🥲

Plenty of choice, the meat wasn't warm, and the potato croquette wasn't either, which is a shame. The staff were friendly, though. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there for tapas.

We sat there for over two hours and only received three small tapas dishes. The staff was mostly self-absorbed and didn't pay attention to the customers. We waited a very long time for food, and the quality was also poor. We will definitely never go back!

A nice place to sit and enjoy delicious tapas. The concept works well, but some portions were quite large, which is my only complaint. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and everything tasted great.

Excellent tapas! Great selection, something for everyone. The atmosphere, decor, and service were excellent. A real asset to Meppel.

The food wasn't great. It lacked flavor. The mojito was also terrible; no mint, no lime, and a strange color. After returning the drink, we were told it wasn't a mojito, and we got it back; it was indeed a mojito, but the mint had run out. Service was otherwise excellent. The price-quality ratio was really poor.

The food was good and very tasty but it would be even better if there were more variations with vegetables on the menu.

Bij aankomst bij restaurant De Nachtwacht in Meppel begon het nog redelijk: we kregen een tafel toegewezen, maar daar hield het ook wel mee op. Het duurde 15 minuten voordat we überhaupt iemand konden aanspreken om wat te drinken te bestellen. Het antwoord? We moesten nog even wachten. Pas 10 minuten later kregen we wat broodjes met kruidenboter. Toegegeven, dat was het enige smakelijke van de hele avond. Daarna werd het alleen maar erger. Pas 15 minuten later konden we eindelijk iets te drinken bestellen. Aangezien het een "all you can eat tapas" concept is, kregen we vervolgens een korte uitleg, en mochten we ons eerste rondje eten bestellen. Maar wat we daarna geserveerd kregen... was echt beschamend slecht. Het eten was taai, lauw en smaakte meer raar dan exotisch. De rondes erna waren zelfs nog slechter. De zogenaamd malse biefstukjes waren zo taai als de zolen van de plaatselijke schoenmaker, en de kip in de wrap leek rechtstreeks uit een blikje te komen. Niet te doen. Echt niet. Onze kinderen hadden vrijwel niets gegeten, en toen ik aan de bediening vroeg of er misschien wat frietjes of iets kindvriendelijks te bestellen was, bleek zelfs dat niet mogelijk te zijn. Voor een restaurant met een "all you can eat"-formule is dat werkelijk absurd. Alsof dat nog niet genoeg was: de zure wijn was niet te drinken, en de bediening, twee dames en een heer hadden duidelijk meer aandacht voor elkaar dan voor de gasten. Ze stonden gezellig te kletsen terwijl de gasten al veel te lang op eten en drinken aan het wachten waren. Als klap op de vuurpijl: iedereen aan tafel had last van de buik na dit bezoek. Wat er mis was met het eten weten we niet, maar iets was er absoluut niet fris. Volgende keer slaan we dit 'restaurant' over en gaan we liever naar de plaatselijke snackbar. Daar krijg je tenminste nog waar voor je geld, een glimlach, en eten dat wel warm en verser is.

A huge disappointment – unfortunately not recommended We had hoped for a pleasant evening out with the family, but our visit was disappointing in almost every way. Upon arrival, we weren't helped immediately; the staff seemed preoccupied with each other and paid little attention to the guests. Throughout the evening, service remained slow and inattentive: empty glasses weren't refilled, and orders took ages to arrive. The dishes were lukewarm to cold, tasteless, and sometimes downright awful. The chicken in the wraps seemed to have come from a can... There were no child-friendly options at all. They didn't even have fries. To make matters worse, we all had stomach problems afterward. The kitchen staff also stood outside smoking while several guests waited for their food, a scene that didn't inspire much confidence. All in all, an expensive, disappointing experience with no silver lining. This restaurant is unfortunately not recommended for families or anyone who values service and hot food. We won't be returning.

The food was very poor and of mediocre quality. It was very greasy and tasteless. The staff stood around looking around, wasting time trying not to overserve. There was no children's menu. The chorizo was dripping with grease, the nachos had no flavor, the ground lamb had no flavor, the steak had no flavor, and the cheap wine was poor quality. The staff were very friendly but had no idea how to serve.

Service was good. Plenty of tapas selection, portions not small (which I've sometimes experienced differently), and good quality.

Great new tapas concept. 2.5 hours is a bit long. The first course didn't arrive until almost an hour later. (Maybe that's why it took 2.5 hours.) The products were beautiful, but the presentation still needs some work. Tip: you don't need red onion on everything, especially not on the bread. We'll definitely be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food was delicious and there was more than enough choice for everyone. Whether you fancy meat, fish or vegetarian, there is something for everyone. Everything was fresh and prepared with care, and you can taste that right away. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed, and the staff were friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. You really feel welcome from the moment you enter. In short, we had a great evening! We will definitely come back here and can heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to eat tasty and varied food.

Delicious food! Nice new concept with the tapas.

It was very nice to have a bite to eat here with the tapas! We sat outside on the terrace, great chairs. The food was very tasty, but sometimes difficult to estimate in terms of portions (patatas bravas was for example very much while some other dishes were a bit less). Nice service, friendly. The only reason that the atmosphere is 4 stars and not 5, is because there were a lot of flies outside at our tables, which can be solved with a fly-repellent device on the tables 😁 All in all, a very tasty meal and a nice time!

The new concept works really well! 2.5 hours unlimited, the food tasted really perfect. Per round you order 2 portions per person, the portions are nice and small so you can try a lot. This is not a problem because there are endless rounds and we were always helped quickly. Nice man who mainly did our serving.

We had dinner here. The food was delicious. Service was friendly. We sat downstairs, it was a bit noisy because of the music and a few guests. Afterwards we saw that we could have sat upstairs, that would have been our preference. Now we know for next time.

Excellent and very attentive waiter. We ordered the new tapas plank, where you get to pick 4 different tapas, and then we had wine with it. It was a great experience, with very fresh ingredients, and served with warm bread. It is certainly worth a visit, and if I am back in Meppel, I am coming back.

We ate here for the first time in March. We liked it so we had another bite to eat at the Nachtwacht yesterday. Delicious food and good service. Finally, we also think the price-quality ratio is excellent. Next time we hope for nice weather so we can sit on the beautiful terrace.

The staff is friendly, but our food was cold/lukewarm (mustard soup and pork tenderloin). The kitchen was busy, I don't think that's an excuse. Take the plate with you and return quickly, which gives you the impression that it has been heated up in the microwave. Very unfortunate, past experiences were better when they had only just arrived in Meppel.

We had dinner here with a group of 6 on King's Day. I fully respect that things take longer. However, this took far too long, staff was not aware of menu options (soup of the day) and diet options. “I don't know: should I let it out?” Was asked instead of the suggestion to consult with the kitchen. Once a plate was on the table, the broccoli was cold and my steak was overcooked and tough. After indicating I received a new piece of meat that was slightly better. But it wasn't really tasty. All in all, I would not eat here again, disappointed in the service and the busyness of such a day should be no excuse for this.

Food was tasty, no fuss, just tasty. Service very good. We sat upstairs, where acoustics create a lesser atmosphere compared to downstairs.

Nice welcome and nice ambiance, but the food was mediocre. We had the mixed main courses for 33 euros per person. The mussels were dry as was the pork tenderloin satay. Salmon was OK. Stew didn't taste special and neither did the duck leg. There were some wilted snow peas. We got 1 bowl of fries, but no salad or vegetables. This had to be ordered and paid for separately. The presentation on the shelf was not really convenient, because we had to share with four and we did not receive any extra cutlery.

We had a delicious meal. The atmosphere and service were top notch. The amount of food was very generous. We opted for the stew, the meat was nicely seasoned and very tender. The fries served were, as they should be, hot. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely time in a authentic restaurant. You can sit relaxed for al long time. The staff was not so well informed about wine and the food. We had a beef wellington there was the crust what sour . We order vegetables because it was not with the main meal. But by surprise we got vegetables with our meal. So in totaal we payed to much for our dinner because it wasn´t inproportion compare money wise. Next day my girlfriend was sick off the food that she eat.

First of all I can say that we had a nice time there. Service was smooth but did not give good advice. The extra vegetables ordered and paid for would not actually have been necessary. Also no knowledge of wine. The bread dip as a starter was fine, more than enough spreads. As a main course we had the tournedos and beef wellington. The meat itself was fine and so was the separate sauce served, but the crust of the beef wellington had a nasty aftertaste that also affected the taste of the meat. We reported this but there was hardly any response. The extra cauliflower and salad were quite tasteless. 2 stars because the price does not match the quality.

Cozy atmosphere. Food was delicious (we had mustard soup, the stew and beef Wellington). The latter is on the expensive side but definitely worth it. Mustard soup is one of the tastiest we have had so far.

Jammer. Alleen maar spruitjes als groente. Deel aan tafel prima gerechten helaas had ik blijkbaar niet de goede gerechten gekozen. Voorgerecht een crunchi sushi die melig en vage smaak had van warme zalm. Zwaardvis - menu van de dag - die net niet lekker klaar gemaakt was en dan in combi met de spruitjes. bah. Bediening die heel vaak om drinken vraagt. Geen verwijzing waar jas op kon hangen, dus die hingen op de stoel. En geen reactie op mijn opmerking dat er alleen spruitjes geserveerd waren. 6 van de 8 hebben de spruitjes niet opgegeten. Waarom geen salade en/of andere groenten erbij serveren Jammer.

Mooie plek in hartje Meppel. Sinds april 2024 waait er een nieuwe wind met een andere eigenaar. Goed eten en een vlotte bediening. Een gezellige avond gehad.

We ate fish - for lack of original vegetarian dishes. Tasty but not very special. The garnish was the same for both dishes. It would be nice to really pay attention to vegetables, both as a main component of dishes and as a garnish for dishes.

Van mijn kant echt alleen maar goede woorden en positiviteit over dit restaurant. Sinds afgelopen jaar zitten er 2 nieuwe eigenaren op en ze hebben keurig aangepast/vernieuwd terwijl de bruine kroeg sfeer, die mij aanspreekt, behouden is gebleven. De balustrade naar boven is verwijderd, waardoor er ook op de boven etage een ruimte kan worden gehuurd voor vergadering of voor een groep die afgezonderd van de rest een feestje wil vieren of rustig wil genieten van het eten. Qua akoestiek is het er een stuk beter en rustiger op geworden. Met 3 vrienden heb ik er heerlijk avondvullend gegeten. Een uitgebreide kaart, met echt voor ieder wat wils. Zelf heb ik genoten van de wildpate, varkenshaas sate en een heerlijk warme apfelstrudel met kop koffie. Omdat ik moest rijden kon ik kiezen uit wel 5 soorten alcoholvrij bier. Een echte aanrader om een hapje te gaan eten, te borrelen of een werkbespreking/vergadering te houden. Dit lijkt mij een aanwinst voor Meppel en een blijvertje voor de toekomst … in februari ga ik er zeker een keer eten samen met mijn vrouw.

From my side, only good words and positivity about this restaurant. There have been 2 new owners since last year and they have been neatly adapted/renewed while retaining the brown pub atmosphere that appeals to me. The balustrade to the top has been removed, so that a space can also be rented on the top floor for a meeting or for a group that wants to celebrate a party or enjoy the meal in peace and quiet from the rest. In terms of acoustics, it has become a lot better and quieter. I had a delicious dinner there with 3 friends. An extensive menu, with something for everyone. I personally enjoyed the game pate, pork tenderloin satay and a delicious warm apple strudel with a cup of coffee. Because I had to drive, I could choose from 5 types of non-alcoholic beer. Highly recommended for a bite to eat, a drink or a work discussion/meeting. This seems to me to be an asset for Meppel and a keeper for the future... I will definitely have dinner there with my wife in February.

Beautiful restaurant in a very beautiful and prominent location in Meppel. The restaurant exudes a nice atmosphere of nostalgia and warmth and I also experienced this during this evening. Delicious food and excellent service. Definitely worth repeating!

The starter was delicious and gave the feeling that the shared dining menu would be the same, but unfortunately. Fish and duck were presented too cowardly and bare, meat was too much and too heavy. No experience in terms of taste. In the context of food waste, you have to pay extra for vegetables and salad, but the leftover food is simply thrown away, so that idea is just a vulgar way to increase the price. Lots of noise and bad acoustics. Dessert was okay. Not value for our money. Shame

Nieuwe eigenaren sinds april 2024 en zij hebben er met het team een heerlijk dinercafe van gemaakt. Fijne locatie, ambiance, heerlijk eten en goede en vriendelijke bediening. Echt een fijne beleving en ze hebben wat moois in Meppel op de kaart gezet.

Only Brussels sprouts as vegetables. Bah. Share excellent dishes at the table, unfortunately I had not chosen the good dishes. Starter: crunchi sushi that was mealy and had a faint taste of warm salmon. Swordfish that was not prepared properly. In combination with the Brussels sprouts. Yikes. Service that often asks for drinks. And no response that only Brussels sprouts were served. 6 out of 8 did not eat the Brussels sprouts. Shame.

Restaurant with perhaps the nicest ambiance in Meppel

This has easily become the number 1 restaurant in Meppel for us. The short ribs were great, as was the venison stew and the venison steak! Good portions! Delicious desserts! My daughter loved the taramisu, I loved the cheesecake and my husband loved the cheese board. Just all great! Also the operation, the service and the customer friendliness.

Eten was goed, maar bezoekers veel te veel op elkaar gepropt, waardoor er te veel lawaai is en je elkaar amper kunt verstaan. Des te meer bezoekers des te meer inkomsten, maar het kan ook te druk zijn en dan is het niet meer gezellig. Zelfs aan de bar werd gegeten en gedronken, moet niet worden toegelaten bij deze grote drukte.

Hier samen met vrienden 8-12 wezen eten, warme en gezellige ambiance. Kregen een vriendelijk ontvangst. Hebben heerlijk gegeten, en alles wat wij bestelde voorgerecht, hoofdgerecht en dessert smaakte goed, het was duidelijk dat er aandacht aan de bereiding was besteed. Het bedienend personeel was uitermate vriendelijk en klantgericht, gelukkig geen gedwongen overdreven aandacht die je vaak in restaurants hebt. Ik kom niet uit Meppel maar de vrienden wel, dit restaurant verdiend alle lof en zeker een bezoek waard. Wij zullen dit restaurant zeker vaker bezoeken. Een echte aanrader!

Slechte ontvangst, geen welkom gevoel, niet weten waar je je jas op kunt hangen. Zoek het zelf maar uit. Personeel weinig verstand van menu. Kwaliteit en prijsverhouding slecht. Niet restaurantwaardig.

Really nice restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. Service friendly and helpful. Sufficient choice on the menu, but not too much. Gambas perfect, shortstakes great. Stew and fish are recommended. Surprising was the Dame Blanche with brown sugar... Well worth a visit!

Friendly staff and great coffee, I had Americano coffee, cappuccino and cheesecake. The name of this place is taken from the famous painting.

Sharing dining is offered here. Tip from the waiter, "if you like meat then this is highly recommended". Let's try that then! We chose this option for both starter and main course. And how wonderful it was! The flat iron steak was so tender that you could just "suck" it. Delicious wild stew with, among other things, wild boar. Short rib is a piece of meat that doesn't look like much, but man, man, was it delicious, prepared with oriental flavors. Then the piece of duck that was there, you don't even have to like it, it still tastes good! Super soft and very tender! There was also a delicious satay skewer on the shelf. And 2 beautiful sea bream fillets. My compliments to the kitchen brigade and service. Super service with a smile.

Heerlijk eten en een snelle bediening. Buitenterras en binnen beide sfeervol. Mooie locatie aan plein. De bediening is erg vriendelijk en er wordt regelmatig gevraagd of alles naar wens is.

Enjoyed a delicious dinner here last week. What a pleasant square! The beautiful weather allowed us to sit outside. Service and food were great! 👌🏻 Another advantage is that the restaurant is less than a 300 meter walk from the parking garage!

De nieuwe eigenaren die het restaurant vanaf april 2024 overnamen hebben er weer wat moois van gemaakt. Daarom kozen we deze locatie om ons 50-jarige verjaardagsfeest te vieren. Afgelopen vrijdag was het zover en het was fantastisch! Goed verzorgt, lekkere hapjes en (genoeg) drankjes voor iedereen. Kortom alles naar wens zoals afgesproken.

Unsuspectingly ordered 4 drinks and 3x cheesecake. I had to pay €39.20 for this. The cheesecake turned out to cost €9 each! It wasn't very special, we've certainly had better. It wasn't on the map so we weren't warned. I think the price is really extreme.

The menu is what you would expect from a diner, but more importantly, it was well prepared. Nice wine with it. In short: we ate and drank well. We had good weather so we had a nice meal on the cozy terrace. The service is smooth, nice people who clearly do their best. They keep a close eye on everything. They do well. Recommended!
