In April, my children and I enjoyed an excellent meal at Gieta. We chose the special roti with chicken, duck, and lamb—a perfect combination, rich in flavor, and very generous portions. The quality of the food was exceptional; this is without a doubt one of the best rotis I've had outside of family. The seating is limited (about five places by the window), so it's mainly for takeout. Despite being busy, we received friendly and hospitable service. Definitely worth coming back for, even from beautiful Brabant. Highly recommended for lovers of authentic Surinamese roti.

This place pretty much has fed me for the past four months and I could not be more thankful for being literally the only shop that I found in Amsterdam that can provide you a decent meal that will satisfy the hunger of a healthy young man for around €10. Hidden gem! Snug in the neighborhood. Full of flavors, all lamb and chicken dishes were so good. Both the roti curry and the separate dish. The portion is lovely and generous, texture is perfect, and the roti is nice and fluffy.

We regularly get roti here. Simply great! Roti plate as it should be. Everything nice and creamy. The taste is delicious. Nowadays we both take roti tempeh. Earlier we took roti chicken and beef. All super tasty. We keep coming!

It really is such an incredibly delicious food at Gieta.. Yesterday I had Roti Doksa for a change.. It's a bit of a struggle with those bones.. Ooh, but the sauce is so tasty.. I asked for an extra bowl of chicken livers.. The genes say on the phone.. Sorry sir, they are already gone unfortunately.. But I hear Gieta say in the background.. We still have a small bowl. The treasure. What a service. See you again very soon!

You come here for the tastiest roti, not for the atmosphere! Always busy. Advice to call or app your order. Otherwise you will have to wait 45 minutes. But it's worth it! We always take the vegetarian roti with tempeh. The tempeh is wonderfully soft. What a party! And they are nice there too! The bakkabana with peanut sauce is also recommended

It's a bit pricey, but that's okay in this case... young, young, what an explosion of taste. No tasteless yellow coloring but real curry and good products, one of the top ones in Amsterdam. Better call in advance and order otherwise it will take a long time (busy).

Delicious roti lamb special. I am from Eindhoven myself, we also have Surinamese eateries here. Only I think the roti lamb especially at Gita in Amsterdam is delicious. I didn't eat anything else there either. The brown fried rice was also delicious and so was the curry egg. It is in the middle of a residential area in Amsterdam. And you can eat at a table on a stool by the window. Small, simple business, friendly people with many regular customers, especially Mrs. Gita, a very sweet woman. When I'm in Amsterdam again I'll go there! Greetings Fouâd!

One of the best (perhaps the best) roti shops in the city. Everything to taste, Great pepper with your dishes. Fresh baras, good noodles, the very best roti. Gieta has been a gift to Amsterdam West for years!

Roti the way roti should be and no stingy portions but a mountain of food! We have been coming here for several years and eat here at least twice a month. The blank with potato filling is also delicious. The chicken almost falls off the bone, not dry, but cooked correctly! Just be careful with the pepper they have, it is very hot and just a pinch is enough, the sambal is also my favorite

Yes, sorry I'm going to be the unpopular opinion, but I think it's meh - I had roti chicken fillet myself and it was EXTREMELY salty. The taste was mainly salty instead of just herbs, which is a pity. I wouldn't necessarily call the chicken fillet itself chicken fillet, but more pieces of messy chicken, that doesn't matter, because it doesn't taste any less, but yes, I have a lot of places that don't have that many reviews, but IMO have better food. . That said, reasonable portions for a reasonable price, but my last time due to the extremely salty taste.

I tried Surinamese food here for the first time. The food was a 10/10, super tasty. I had the roti roll with cod and the simosa. The people were friendly. Authentic, tasty food. If I'm in Amsterdam again, I will definitely come back!

Got various roti dishes and spring rolls here. Spring rolls were very salty. Threw away after 2 bites. Roti sheets were good, but the chicken, doks. Lamb and potatoes with long beans were not fresh and tasted of nothing. Everything thrown away. Shame

We had a wonderful New Year's Eve thanks to your great food! I had gotten roti chicken before, and I thought it was good. Now we have also tried the vegetarian version with tempeh and it was also well received. Roti rolls were well filled, and the pepper was as pepper should be! We are used to roti from Rams and Roopram, but from now on we will order from you! ❤

I got roti and sandwiches at Gieta for the first time. I don't give them a 10 but a 9.9 because they forgot my egg with the roti, but I call that points and commas, because it can happen. But MENN!!! How delicious!!!! I haven't had such a delicious meal in a long time, everything was delicious, the teloh sandwiches with Bakkeljauw DELICIOUS!!! 👌🏾 It's also affordable, I'd say "keep it up" TOPP!!!!!

Used to go to Rams, but the quality has gone down there. So looking for a new place in the area and then I came across this gem. Vega roti roll: wonderfully creamy and tasty. Sweet gentleman behind the counter. Great service, affordable. Completely satisfied and I will definitely come back!

This was our first experience on Surinamese food while visiting from London. It was so good! The gentleman serving recommended some things to try which was great seeing as he was very busy with orders!

Got a Roti, lamb number 8. Came with green runner beans and potato. Really good lamb curry. The extra yellow sauce had a great flavourful spice, quite hot. I was looking forward to trying Surinamese food and this was a great first choice. The bloke serving me was also very helpful when I asked him for a reccomendation, so run by lovely people. Would definitely recommend 👌 👍 🙂

Excellent food, tasty and fresh, a bit pricey and nowadays a mandatory 50 cent packaging surcharge, she says that is mandatory. I work in the catering industry myself and that is not the case at all!!

Very tasty roti, authentic and tastes really traditional. Little fat/oil, juicy and tasty chicken (potato and long beans). I always only ate roti at Lalla Rookh but I have found my new favorite roti shop. Roopram, Rams, Hapjeshoek cannot match Gieta's roti. Lovely people and fast service :)

Fantastic roti, and one of the few places in Amsterdam where they still make the plate themselves 😃🙌.

I drove to this place from Diemen because I wanted to eat a tasty roti lamb and this place scores well. I ordered roti, bara and bakabana. The portions are large, but otherwise I was disappointed. I thought the roti plate was a bit thick. The lamb could have been more seasoned. The bara was not fluffy but a large mass of dough. The bakabanas were too greasy and fried with a lot of dough, so we left them after one bite. The peanut sauce is very watery. Too bad because the atmosphere in the business is good and the people are friendly.

Recommended! Especially the roti lamb. Friendly staff! Tip: Order by telephone, because Gieta's roti are popular and it can sometimes be busy.

After a long rainy day exploring Amsterdam, my mum and I took the long way home as we did a detour to get to this takeaway food place. We’ve never had Surinamese food before so we were intrigued. But after the meal I had, I can proudly say that the detour was worth it because the food was such a great first time experience!! It was sooo gooddd!!! We ordered the roti oorlog (kip, lams en doks) - See the pictures to see what I ordered: it’s composed of different types of meats, potatoes and green beans as well as the roti and it was soooooo goodddddd. It has a kick to it if you like spice (plus they provide a higher level of hot sauce if you want more spice). The portion size and food content made for a hearty and filling meal. I am still resisting a food coma and I ate more than 5 hours ago. It was €16.50 and definitely worth the price. They can take my money again and they will because this is definitely one of my new favs. The place is primarily a takeaway service so there wasn’t a lot of seating as expected. The staff were very friendly and joyous and very patient with my use of Google translate to order. It was nice seeing the interactions between a range of local customers and the staff. The place was clean and bright.

The food was incredibly tasty! Allergies, etc. were taken into account. I called last minute because I needed catering for a fairly large group. I really received a lot of help and I'll just say it again: the food was super tasty and really prepared with love!!!

Good Surinamese roti according to an authentic recipe seems difficult to find in the Netherlands these days. After reading the rave reviews, we, roti connoisseurs from Delft and Rotterdam, decided to travel all the way to Amsterdam to taste the Gieta Roti, and we will definitely be back! Hygiene and friendliness top. The food is even better!!!

The roti rolls are still very good, taste wise. But they are not rolled properly and it's not enjoyable eating them. We used to come here a lot, but now there seems to be such a high demand that the final touch is missing and a little love in preparing the dishes.

Amazing samosa. The roti was a bit thick for my taste, but still delicious! It is too much plastic packaging. The food is wrapped several times. I’d love to see some more sustainable options, and other places are making it easier for you to bring own containers.

Beste Surinaamse eten dat ik tot zover gegeten heb. Probeer vooral de nasi met de kerrie kipfilet, onze favoriet! Ook Gieta’s Saoto Soep is verrukkelijk. Gieta, een begrip in de Baarsjes.

I asked if the roti would be crispy, and they said yes! But no crispy roti came 😟 same goes for the Vada. Food was hearty and filling, nonetheless. It's a shame we couldn't try lamb, though. I would like to try other food options next time!

Lekkerste roti in Amsterdam en Nederland

Opnieuw heerlijk verrast door lekkere roti oorlog(kip, lams en doks). Enorme portie en super lekker van smaak. Extra plaat erbij gekocht.

Goeie en grote Roti voor maar €7,50. Goeie kwaliteit. Het roti-brood is zeer goede kwaliteit, en valt nu bij andere zaken altijd tegen. Waar voor je geld en aardige mensen!

Naar mijn mening de lekkerste roti(rol) in A'dam west. De rol is goed geduld, goed van smaak en dus zeker je geld waard. Wel vragen om servetjes, die worden niet meegegeven. Best irritant als je onderweg wilt eten en je handen niet kan 'afvegen' ..

To be clear this is a takeaway cafe and not a restaurant. There are 4 or 5 high stools at a window counter should you eat in. Food is served in takeaway containers. As an introduction to Surinamese cuisine, we've been schooled. :-) Food is served piping hot and we were delighted with all our dishes. Was spot on. Seasoning was delicious. Staff were extremely helpful. We ordered lamb curry with roti which came with green beans and potato. We also had a fish roti also delicious. We did want starters but to be honest the portions were very large and we might not have had room for it all.

Erg lekker eten. De daalroti is lekker zacht en was vers. Net als al het andere eten. Het was ook nog eens zeer goed verpakt, waardoor het eten nog steeds warm was na 2 uur! Jammer dat sommige hapjes al op waren. Fijn dat er ook vegan opties zijn. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar.

Personeel is vriendelijk, roti in zijn geheel heel smakelijk! De pannenkoek is de lekkerste die ik ooit gegeten heb!

The food here is by far the best Surinamese I have ever had. The pancake-like things they have here are amazing, as well as the roti.

Heerlijk eten maken ze daar klaar. Het was alleen erg druk, maar dat had waarschijnlijk ook met het tijdstip te maken (vrijdag 18:30 uur).

Eten af gehaald, super lekker gegeten thuis. Kom zeker nog eens terug.
