Rust Wat in Blaricum

The presentation of the dishes was beautiful, and some flavors really stood out. Unfortunately, the quality wasn't consistent throughout. A few dishes were excellent, while others were a bit bland or less refined. The service was excellent, but the pace wasn't always great. With a little more attention, this could be a very nice place.

The location is beautiful, but the food was honestly disappointing. Portions were small, the flavor was lacking, and the service was completely lacking. For these prices, you really expect more.

Lovely food by Sidney on this great location next to the health of Bussum and Blaricum. Great French inspired dishes with a twist. Lovely and tastedul Bread , always a sign of a good kitchen.

Delicious food and excellent service!

What a relief to have someone knowledgeable at the helm. I live nearby, and as the months go by, you can see how a real team is building. Of course, they're still pushing the boundaries by offering eel brioche, but it's delicious, and that's what matters. All the dishes (I've tried so far) are beautifully seasoned. The sea bass is my favorite. What a perfectly cooked sea bass, skin-on. The piperade (a kind of spicy, very flavorful ratatouille) was also beautifully seasoned. A seemingly simple dish, but it's a true art to achieve this level. -I think Sidney will slowly take steps towards becoming a star in the future--

Fireworks are a treat every year. I just realized there's a restaurant next door. That alone makes it a must-see.

I escaped here during the Blaricum fair for a well-prepared meal. The tranquility in this green setting is soothing. The food was delicious.

I hadn't been there for over 10 years, but I think I'll go more regularly again. I'll take more time to enjoy the chef's menu, which changes daily; I'm very curious to see what will appear. Extensive wine list, reasonably priced. In short, you can definitely make a reservation here! Update 30-8-2025: We were told they have a new chef. We had a very delicious lunch. Beautiful dishes (appetizer and main course), and this time it was lovely to sit on the terrace in the sunshine. Our host was here for the last time today; he's going to Troef in Amsterdam. There will surely be a successor, so I still recommend eating here.

Nice atmosphere, had lunch outside on the terrace. We were sitting a bit further back and they "forgot" to serve us an item we ordered from the menu. But we had a delicious lunch.

Update July 2025 After more than a year, I gave Rust Wat another try. Expectations were very high, but they weren't met. Once again, it wasn't due to the surroundings, the ducks, or the hardworking staff. The owner focuses primarily on "famous" Dutch people, and that's a choice, but it's noticeable. We wondered if Sidney Schutte himself was in the kitchen, because it simply wasn't anything special, nor was it exceptionally well prepared. I thought the spicy tuna was the best prepared. The egg was watery, just not quite right, and to be honest, this was really my last visit. Truly the end of an era, but fortunately, there's more than enough choice in the Gooi region and surrounding areas for culinary enjoyment. Too bad, 'never, never again'... --- Restaurant Rust Wat is known for its beautiful terrace. Over the years, I've been here regularly, both privately and professionally. Generally, it's truly wonderful to sit on the terrace, among the ducks hoping for something to fall on the ground, with a view of the green trees and the beautiful pond. The staff is incredibly friendly and goes above and beyond to make everything as good as possible. More than once, I've been surprised by some of the "guests" who regularly behave quite rudely towards the staff. It's impressive how the ladies and gentlemen handle this, and hopefully, they realize it has nothing to do with them. In short, respect for the waitstaff. The main course (entrecote) (this time from the chef's menu) was fine, but the two appetizers lacked the "Rest Wat" touch. In my opinion, the quality of the cooking has deteriorated. Often too salty, and why do they put tomato pieces over the vitello tonnato? My partner is allergic to it and didn't expect to find this. No problem, we switched, but I just wanted to mention it. On the plus side, you do get an amuse-bouche, which I consider a real plus in a restaurant. The quality of the dinner could be improved, and I'm not judging it on a single evening, by the way. My compliments to the staff; they're the reason I'll be back. And the charming ducks on the terrace also help.

After a long time, we finally dined at an old favorite. I heard about the new management, and after a few bad experiences, I was curious. The food was delicious, but still a little disappointed. Our reservation, which we called, hadn't been recorded. Accidents happen, but they were unfairly trying to blame us. It's not a disaster, but I apologize if I do... We couldn't eat outside. It certainly wasn't tropical, but it wasn't really cold either. There were a few drizzles towards the end of the evening. In those conditions, we once sat outside under the enormous parasols. The terrace is one of the jewels in the crown; you don't give that up so easily! A nice, small menu, which I appreciate. But I heard from a distance that a main course was already sold out by 7 p.m.! The service was okay, but a bit slow. Enthusiastic young people. It was packed, but I've seen things run smoothly there with fewer people in the past. Desserts all came with ice cream, which was a bit less... I opted for a "dame blanche." It should have been served with hot chocolate sauce. I received it neatly in a sauce boat, but it was cold and no better than a "supermarket bottle." I went home with mixed feelings.

I had reserved a table and arrived on time. Due to the crowds, finding a parking space was quite difficult. This isn't usually the case. After arriving, I ordered drinks and shortly afterward, the main courses and side dishes. Regarding the side dishes, we quickly discovered that one side dish had been forgotten, which was quickly resolved after I pointed out the matter. I must say that we had to wait quite a long time for both the starter and the main course. Guests who arrived later, for example, received their main course much sooner. When I confronted the staff about this, they apologized for being quite busy. I can understand that, but having to wait an hour for the starter to be served, despite their understanding, rubs me the wrong way. The same applies to the main course. In my opinion, waiting an hour for something to be served is far too long. Consequently, our lunch lasted almost three hours, which I consider extremely long, even for a Saturday lunch. I should add that after I brought this up with the staff, I wasn't charged for the side dishes.

I've been coming here for over 20 years. Unfortunately, my last visit left much to be desired. The Salade Riche (€39) was noticeably small this time. What made it even more galling was that a BNN member at the table next to me got the same dish, but in a much larger portion. Selective service based on who you are (or not) is unacceptable. For now, I'm postponing my visits.

The new Rust Wat is highly recommended, a top-notch addition. Fantastic food, a great wine list, and top-notch service. We'll happily be regulars again.

A place that lives up to its name. We've been coming to Restaurant Rust Wat for years. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined rapidly in recent years, but we kept coming back, if only for the beautiful location and the delicious bitterbal. We're therefore very pleased with the arrival of a new chef who creates surprising dishes for both lunch and dinner, and the drinks menu is also very worthwhile. We definitely recommend it if you want to relax by the water and don't feel like you have to make way for another place. The atmosphere inside is also relaxed, so you can enjoy it all year round. We'd love to visit you again soon.

What a beautiful place to dine! You can sit comfortably both inside and outside (one of the best spots in Het Gooi). The food is varied, and Sid's Spicy Tuna is to die for—a must-try. What a gem Rust Wat is! Surrounded by greenery, overlooking the water, we had a fantastic evening here. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome. The food? Absolutely delicious! Every dish was meticulously prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. You can taste the care and love that goes into the cooking. From appetizer to dessert, it was a true taste sensation. The service was friendly, attentive, and had perfect timing. We will definitely be back!

It's been a while since we've eaten at Rust Wat, but the recent reopening made us curious, and what a fantastic lunch we had! Not only is the innovative menu difficult to choose from, but we also loved the new cocktails. It's great that you can have an aperitif first! Such lovely people work there, and they go above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful experience. If you have to choose from the menu, go for the Salade Riche. Exactly as it should be, generously filled with the freshest ingredients. We've already booked our next reservation!

Tonight we were once again very spoiled…, delicious food, great service, we certainly enjoyed the hospitality of Gigi and her friendly staff, in short, a relaxed atmosphere in a warm environment!!!

We had a lovely evening here. The menu offers enough choice without being overwhelming, and everything we ordered tasted great. The service was friendly and helpful, although it took a little longer between courses than expected. But the atmosphere made up for that. We will definitely be back.

The food was truly excellent. There is nothing to complain about. The dishes were more than fine and offered surprising twists that made the dinner special. What left something to be desired, however, was the service. The staff seemed rushed and the tables seemed overbooked. In the rush, tables were quickly cleared, which detracted from the experience. There was a lack of personal attention: no suitable wine was suggested with the dish and water was not refilled. Such details make the difference and would make the experience much more complete and hospitable.

I really liked the atmosphere in the restaurant, but the location of our table was not very cozy (just after the entrance, outside). The food was of good quality and the staff was very friendly and welcoming.

Finally ate outside again at the most beautiful spot in Blaricum. We had a lunch menu (sea bass ceviche with avocado and veal with asparagus) and it was delicious. Friendly service, nice wine and a nice afternoon.

After not visiting Rust Wat for a long time due to previous disappointments in the quality, we decided to dine again after the recent takeover. The quality has improved somewhat, but unfortunately remains below par. The oysters were fresh, but the dressing was bland and lacked flavor. The service was friendly, but forgot a few small details. We did not like the soup. The Turbotin, on the other hand, was excellently prepared, while the cod fillet was disappointing. In general, the main courses were of considerably better quality than the starters. All dishes were very salty. All in all, we rate this experience with a 6, which for us is 3 stars. Hopefully the new concept will flourish in the coming months and the kitchen will be further elevated. For now, it is unfortunately not at that level yet. The place is beautiful, by the way.

Beautiful terrace and delicious food

Great food! Especially the tuna starter, turbotin main and lamb were incredibly tasty. Romanoff dessert was the least, lacked some taste. But the cheerful hostess Gigi and the chef who came by made it a big 10!

Hidden gem! Hidden between the woods and situated on a large pond is a lovely sunny terrace. The service is friendly and hospitable. Informal but very correct. Extremely pleasant! The food was delicious. Especially the steak tartare.. what a lovely classic! This is an absolute “one to remember” for us, so we would love to come back again.

Not been there for a long time, but on the recommendation that a new chef has taken over, reserved for lunch. The location remains beautiful, with a lovely terrace on an idyllic water feature in Blaricum - a place you like to go to. Expectations were also exceeded in other areas: surprisingly composed dishes of high-quality ingredients, beautifully presented and with excellent hospitality and service. A successful experience in all respects.

Small menu, in the asparagus season they had no asparagus, very expensive salad. Sloppy restaurant, flowers on the table completely withered. Staff had plastic bags, jackets moped helmets on the tables. Sloppy and messy place. Only the location is nice

Why only a 4.3? It is a fantastic place, delicious food, delicious wine and good service, who are happy to recommend wines! Especially when the weather is nice, sit on the terrace and enjoy the peace, the birds, the frogs, in short, a wonderful place!

We have been coming to Rust Wat for decades. Experienced everything from good to bad. It has been good for some time now. We had lunch there. All dishes were really well prepared, albeit slightly overpriced. The menu is quite limited. The service was friendly and attentive. The terrace, the place to be when the weather is good, could get a little more charisma and a little more attention. For example, with more/better flowers on the table and elsewhere.

Excellent location where you can always enjoy a nice menu both inside and outside!

The food is fine and so is the service, but the soul is a bit lost. In the details it is almost there, but not quite. What is missing is passion, an enthusiastic host/hostess. But when the weather is nice, there is no nicer terrace than here, then it is “the place to be”.

Nice welcome, but when we were assigned a table, it turned out that no account had been taken of the wheelchair user about whom we had had correspondence well in advance. The staff is young and rather inexperienced. For many simple questions (e.g. which beers and cocktails do you have), the waiter had to go back to check. After we got the menu, we had to alert the waiter that we were ready to order because they kept walking past us without looking at us. Too bad that the chef's menu could only be changed at dessert. We indicated that we had no problem with a surcharge, but we were told that was not the intention. The food is fine, except for the duck because it was unfortunately too tough. When we indicated this, there was a nice gesture of serving coffee on the house. It's a pity that it ends up on the bill again afterwards and we have to say something about it.

What a disappointment. To begin with, it is very cold there, so you are forced to keep your coat on Too bad if you're dressed for a night out. I'm a little one and I never touch the fries that come with it. Here I was glad it was there. It was a huge portion and cold too. The wine was good, the service friendly and the price????? No, definitely not worth repeating

We were surprised to be and remain the only ones in the restaurant... the food was not tasty: the fries were too thick and too lukewarm and fried too hard, the food of one of the kids: 10 bitterballen with the aforementioned fries (she gave later at home) the scallops St Jacques with the caramelized (?) leek was bland and not tasty. The lobster was small and had little "meat" as a main course (3 bites). Snacking on a greasy slice of bread was not a success. The (children's) hamburger was colossal when it should have been smaller. We will not be back.

Been coming here for 25 years! Hadn't been there for a while; was very shocked by the decor. The soul is gone! It's as if we renovated Nick Vollebregt with crappy new furniture and accessories, really a shame! The old dishes have really been kind of halved and doubled in price! The service is good, but everything is different and does not fit in with the audience that came there all those years; fear that that audience will stay away. Sorry! This top location has been taken away from us!

Been here for the first time with the family. it was not a busy evening but the service seemed to forget us every now and then. That wasn't the worst thing, the main thing was that we had to wait more than an hour and a half for our main course. without intermediate information or offered drink. and then you get half a lobster for 39,- with a few leaves of lettuce without fries or something like that. It was certainly nice that it was noted that it was my birthday and therefore a party fire and chocolate. the ambiance also looks good, but unfortunately we found the price-quality ratio below par.

Unfortunately, our visit to Rust Wat was somewhat disappointing. The restaurant was very cold, and you could feel the cold rising up your legs and back, which was not exactly comfortable. The toilet was also not heated at all and therefore ice cold. Lunch was okay. Although the wine was tasty, I found the value for money of the food to be unbalanced. For what you get, it is quite expensive. Fortunately, the service was friendly and attentive. But all in all, I don't really understand the high reviews for this restaurant. There are clearly areas for improvement.

Now with new owner, really delicious and good food again. Special attention to details, good service, beef wellington highly recommended and many more delicacies. Definitely go to Rust Wat again!

We were surprised by the chef with two lunch dishes. Unfortunately, the surprise was anything but positive. The dishes were not only small, but also completely tasteless. What was once an excellent restaurant is clearly not what it used to be. This was the last time we came here. A big disappointment, but unfortunately in line with the recent negative reviews.

We experienced the 'Dine at dome' here, it was not the atmosphere and the service, this was excellent! The five-course menu did not meet expectations and in terms of price and quality we would describe it as insufficient. Dishes looked and tasted as if they were not fresh, dishes were not well coordinated and the main course was simply very mediocre in quantity.

It is not the fault of the service and the wine (beautiful white Bougogne). Really attentive and friendly staff. However, the food was quite disappointing. Small, pale, escargots. Unseasoned and lukewarm. The fish was not fresh, not cooked properly and the garnish was not tasty. The French Coffee was not at the right temperature and tasted very weak. What's going on in the kitchen? We are not used to this in this beautiful restaurant.

What a shame that a beautiful restaurant has been renovated in such a lack of atmosphere. Giant bright lights that made me speechless. The food was also not okay, it's a great shame that it was lost. Staff very friendly.

Refined and tasty dishes and very hospitable service... in short, highly recommended!! This time 'Dine at Dome', a private dinner (max 6 people) in an illuminated and heated dome, placed on the terrace. Where you can play your own music via Bluetooth ;-) Private dining at its best!

Delicious food in a nice place.

Did we find it tasty and good? Yes. Service and food both great. Are we going back? Not as Rest Which does not solve the draft problem. The outside door often had to be opened to operate the "igloos" outside. Nice that you can dine in an “igloo”, but it became too cold inside. Several guests had the same complaint. Too bad, but if it's not comfortable, you can't really enjoy the delicious food and the super nice service.

What's going on with Rust What? We had a nice lunch and dinner several times this year, as a couple and with four to six people. Excellent experience every time. Until yesterday, had lunch with 4 people, downright disappointing! Sparsely prepared starters, mediocre in taste. Main courses ditto, sirloin steak sent back (not prepared as desired), salad riche far from rich (arugula covered a few slices of scallops and chunks of sweetbreads or foie gras?), small bowl of fries for 4 people, desserts mediocre. The Weissburgunder wine was good.... In short, unsatisfactory.

All in all, not what it used to be. Because there were apparently no concrete agreements between the employees, things were forgotten. Moreover, sometimes even painfully chattering in your ear to other guests. Fortunately, the place is still unique and worth a visit, but the staff sets the tone.

A lovely place with a view over the water with a huge lily field. Behind it are beautiful trees. We sat on the terrace by the water and watched the ducks who later also boldly walked across the terrace to look for something to gnaw. The food was truly delicious. Of course there was plenty for meat eaters, but there was also an excellent vegetarian choice. Service simply very good. Final conclusion: you pay a little more but... then you get something! I won't soon forget my tournedos. I will definitely come back!

Great enjoyment. We happened to be there for a long time, just for a glass. We stayed there for dinner because of the atmosphere and the friendly welcome. AMAZING. will definitely eat there more often.
