Rust Wat in Blaricum

Beautiful terrace with a good view over a lake with an adjacent forest. Friendly and good staff. The menu was a bit unclear regarding what was spicy, etc. The outdoor chairs were on the hard side. There is free Wi-Fi and entertainment (a duck enjoyed biting my finger). The food is very tasty but a bit small. There is a nice atmosphere and it is nicely decorated.

Beautiful place and divine food, just a shame that they don't have a gluten-free and vegan option for our son on the menu.. 😢. Otherwise great ❤️

Highly recommended; with Sidney, there's a great atmosphere now at this beautiful spot in Blaricum. It's not cheap, but it is a wonderful experience and well worth it!

Beautiful location on the Linge with a great view. Downsides: the service was slow. Croquettes with bread were fine, but the smoked salmon sandwich was a joke for that price. Very small and with very little filling. Nice for a drink with a view, but for lunch I would choose elsewhere.

Particularly beautifully situated establishment by a pond, good food, nice wine list, many wines by the glass of good to very good quality, unfortunately not all served at the right temperature. Everything reasonably priced, service friendly and hospitable but chaotic and they make a lot of mistakes. Definitely worth a second visit.

The plan was to have lunch at Rust Wat. Upon arrival, we were told that you *must* eat inside. There is no service outside. Eventually, we managed to get a cup of coffee on the terrace after all. We saw several people go inside disappointed. We left and had lunch outside elsewhere.

What a lovely place and discovery this is! Great food, good service, beautiful location and atmosphere. I don't understand the 4.3 stars; it deserves 5 stars. One tip: a good dessert wine was missing from the menu; we love dessert wine with botrytis, and for a place like this, it really is a must.

Beautiful location. Perfect menu, tasty food. However, relatively very expensive. Good quality but mediocre price-quality ratio.

High expectations, yet disappointed, we left. First of all, the lunch was tasty, but almost everything surrounding it was well below par. Furthermore, the bisque was too watery and, unfortunately, there were no pieces of lobster. The service was too familiar, and the table setting was poor (no salt and pepper, no special carving knife, no spoon with the bisque, no inquiry regarding the desired preparation of the meat, no small gift with the coffee, etc.). The waitress we served wore a perfume that was far too heavy; her male colleague, although polite, unfortunately walked away from the table twice empty-handed. Management was unfortunately absent for the well-attended lunch, so where did I share my findings? Here, apparently. Unfortunately, not worth the effort, despite the beautiful location and surroundings.

We hadn't been for a few years because the quality of the food had deteriorated. We heard about a new (good) chef, so we decided to give it a second chance. But it was disappointing. All five of us ordered the Salade Rich for lunch (€39.50), and three of us ordered the one with foie gras +€16.00. It was indeed more "rich" than before, but that is to be expected for that price. And the foie gras and lobster didn't have much flavor. There is only house water, so no S.Pellegrino or Spa, and that costs €7.00. Too bad; we had expected more and promised our guests, who had never been here before, more. So, no second chance.

A delicious dinner with friends and business associates, top service and good atmosphere

Oysters were okish. But the meat and sides were amazing. Don't forget ou enjoying your food in the middle of forest, a lake on your side as well.

Had an extensive meal, truly incredibly delicious. It is a shame that they wanted to serve the wrong dishes with every course. It was constantly dishes from another table. It was corrected, but I don't expect that in this restaurant. Once is acceptable, but four times is really awful. A pity. The quality of the dishes was very good and they looked very good too. A lot of care was taken with the presentation and taste. The price-quality ratio of the dishes was really top-notch.

A bit too fancy for lunch and very expensive

Rust Wat is truly a picture-perfect spot in terms of summery ambiance with their stylish terrace. A beloved place in Laren and the surrounding area for enjoying a drink on the terrace. You sit comfortably under the parasols and trees, overlooking the beautiful pond. Now that there is a new owner, I have updated my review. The portions are smaller and the price has increased quite a bit. For fine dining, you don't quite get the feeling that you are paying the right price/quality ratio. And the fact that you have to pay a hefty €4 for a bottle of house-brand water is a bit sour. Why not factor that water price into your wines? The staff is very polite and friendly. You don't always experience that elsewhere. Plenty of parking spaces, unless you arrive late, in which case you might have to search for a spot on the street, which isn't always easy because the verge is blocked off with tree trunks.

28 June: Super tranquilizing location, tasty and delicate dishes, very kind service staff, fair prices. We discovered this gem recently and we will definitely come back again.

We had a wonderful dinner at Rust Wat. Given the heat (39°C), we were a bit apprehensive at first, but that was resolved with a bottle of water immediately upon being seated. We opted for some amuse-bouches in the form of a deviled egg with fresh truffle and toasts with eel, apple, and horseradish. The amuse-bouches were very tasty. The deviled eggs were very surprising and deliciously flavored. As a starter, we had the spicy tuna, an absolute must for tuna lovers, and the tomato-watermelon salad, which was very refreshing. A nice piece of bread or a crostini to soak up all the delicious liquid would have been a good addition (a spoon is also an option). For the main course, we had the monkfish, which was very tasty, and a beef tenderloin with green peppercorn sauce. I wanted it rare, and I must say the meat was prepared perfectly. For dessert, there was only one option…the Ile Flottante! Not in the traditional form, but prepared in a very surprising way with raspberry. Just reminiscing about San Francisco… We had a delicious meal… and enjoyed ourselves despite the heat. Thanks for the hospitality!

Been there often, and the food has always been delicious. Typical Gooi atmosphere. Cozy and casual. A very beautiful hidden gem, situated by the water, with excellent quality food and delicious amuse-bouches (the truffle egg is divine). Had the glazed Peking duck twice, but it had too much hoisin sauce; though, we just pointed that out politely. The second time it was slightly better. Good portions, excellent salads. Nice, varied menu. Beautifully presented plates. However, everything is very much on the pricey side. Probably more expensive than normal due to the location in Blaricum and the Gooi clientele. Good wines. During the reservation, we mentioned that someone couldn't really eat anything from the menu. We were guaranteed that something would be prepared separately. Unfortunately, upon arrival, it turned out no one was aware of this. An alternative was offered, though.

We came here to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and had a wonderful time. Service was perfect and I might have had the single best bisque of my life. However, I wanted to thank the young gentleman who served us (unfortunately I did not catch his name). Through no mistake of his own, there was a miscommunication that caused some discomfort. There is nothing he could have done differently and we have 0 complaints whatsoever and thought he navigated the situation with grace. We hope he didn't feel bad and wanted to thank him. We will definitely come back - and hope the bisque will stay on the menu forever.

Nothing wrong with that, but customer service also means—and at the very least—wiping down the terrace chairs upon guests’ arrival, removing the enormous piles of leaves and other debris swirling from the trees (which, by the way, continue to swirl during your stay and thus end up in the lovely dishes).

We went for dinner to this wonderfully located restaurant at a small lake. Everything we ordered for starters, mains and dessert was exceptionally good. We actually talked about it how they managed to make something special of each dish. Highly recommended.

The food was very good and the service very friendly. But what bothered me most is that absolutely everything has to be purchased additionally. When you spend nearly €600 (with 6 people), it is particularly annoying that the bread plates are immediately taken away if you don't order bread with your starters. The main course comes as a separate piece of meat with gravy, nothing else included. The potatoes, fries, salad, and vegetables all have to be ordered separately. You pay €24 for 3 bottles of tap water. We only got something extra with the 6 coffees/teas: 6 sugar cubes, bravo! Mother's Day cards on the table, cocktail menus on the table, everything to generate as much money as possible. I understand that a restaurant needs to make a profit and generate a margin, but for me, this crosses the line way over the line. It's a shame, because the food, service, and atmosphere are fine. Nevertheless, I went home with an unpleasant feeling and will not be returning in this state.

We had a wonderful lunch at Rust Wat by Sidney Schutte. We received fantastic service from a very friendly and hospitable lady from Huizen. She immediately created a pleasant atmosphere and really took her time with us. We started with oysters, beautifully served on a plate with shaved ice, perfectly presented. Then we enjoyed the cod and also had the shrimp croquettes. Everything was exquisitely prepared and full of flavor. A delicious lunch in a beautiful location with top-notch service. We will definitely be back!

After a previous bad experience, we decided to give it another try because of the new owner. We had a delicious lunch. The spicy Yuna was truly delicious. The ravioli was delicious. The dessert was amazing. Meringue, ice cream, and warm cherries. Truly fantastic. The service was friendly and professional.

A wonderful experience. We actually came for lunch, which they don't really offer. That was a shame, so we went straight to a proper meal. But it was absolutely delicious! Beautiful place! Good service, and the whole experience was perfect. We'd love to come back when the weather was better to try out the waterfront terrace.

The presentation of the dishes was beautiful, and some flavors really stood out. Unfortunately, the quality wasn't consistent throughout. A few dishes were excellent, while others were a bit bland or less refined. The service was excellent, but the pace wasn't always great. With a little more attention, this could be a very nice place.

The location is beautiful, but the food was honestly disappointing. Portions were small, the flavor was lacking, and the service was completely lacking. For these prices, you really expect more.

Delicious food and excellent service!

What a relief to have someone knowledgeable at the helm. I live nearby, and as the months go by, you can see how a real team is building. Of course, they're still pushing the boundaries by offering eel brioche, but it's delicious, and that's what matters. All the dishes (I've tried so far) are beautifully seasoned. The sea bass is my favorite. What a perfectly cooked sea bass, skin-on. The piperade (a kind of spicy, very flavorful ratatouille) was also beautifully seasoned. A seemingly simple dish, but it's a true art to achieve this level. -I think Sidney will slowly take steps towards becoming a star in the future--

Fireworks are a treat every year. I just realized there's a restaurant next door. That alone makes it a must-see.

I escaped here during the Blaricum fair for a well-prepared meal. The tranquility in this green setting is soothing. The food was delicious.

A warm welcome from the enthusiastic team. There was room for a joke, yet they remained focused on providing a pleasant dinner. Excellent. Delicious food, lovely rack of pork. I hadn't been there for over 10 years, but I think I'll go more regularly again. I'll take more time to enjoy the chef's menu, which changes daily; I'm very curious to see what will appear. Extensive wine list, reasonably priced. In short, you can definitely make a reservation here! Update 30-8-2025: We were told they have a new chef. We had a very delicious lunch. Beautiful dishes (appetizer and main course), and this time it was lovely to sit on the terrace in the sunshine. Our host was here for the last time today; he's going to Troef in Amsterdam. There will surely be a successor, so I still recommend eating here.

Update July 2025 After more than a year, I gave Rust Wat another try. Expectations were very high, but they weren't met. Once again, it wasn't due to the surroundings, the ducks, or the hardworking staff. The owner focuses primarily on "famous" Dutch people, and that's a choice, but it's noticeable. We wondered if Sidney Schutte himself was in the kitchen, because it simply wasn't anything special, nor was it exceptionally well prepared. I thought the spicy tuna was the best prepared. The egg was watery, just not quite right, and to be honest, this was really my last visit. Truly the end of an era, but fortunately, there's more than enough choice in the Gooi region and surrounding areas for culinary enjoyment. Too bad, 'never, never again'... --- Restaurant Rust Wat is known for its beautiful terrace. Over the years, I've been here regularly, both privately and professionally. Generally, it's truly wonderful to sit on the terrace, among the ducks hoping for something to fall on the ground, with a view of the green trees and the beautiful pond. The staff is incredibly friendly and goes above and beyond to make everything as good as possible. More than once, I've been surprised by some of the "guests" who regularly behave quite rudely towards the staff. It's impressive how the ladies and gentlemen handle this, and hopefully, they realize it has nothing to do with them. In short, respect for the waitstaff. The main course (entrecote) (this time from the chef's menu) was fine, but the two appetizers lacked the "Rest Wat" touch. In my opinion, the quality of the cooking has deteriorated. Often too salty, and why do they put tomato pieces over the vitello tonnato? My partner is allergic to it and didn't expect to find this. No problem, we switched, but I just wanted to mention it. On the plus side, you do get an amuse-bouche, which I consider a real plus in a restaurant. The quality of the dinner could be improved, and I'm not judging it on a single evening, by the way. My compliments to the staff; they're the reason I'll be back. And the charming ducks on the terrace also help.

After a long time, we finally dined at an old favorite. I heard about the new management, and after a few bad experiences, I was curious. The food was delicious, but still a little disappointed. Our reservation, which we called, hadn't been recorded. Accidents happen, but they were unfairly trying to blame us. It's not a disaster, but I apologize if I do... We couldn't eat outside. It certainly wasn't tropical, but it wasn't really cold either. There were a few drizzles towards the end of the evening. In those conditions, we once sat outside under the enormous parasols. The terrace is one of the jewels in the crown; you don't give that up so easily! A nice, small menu, which I appreciate. But I heard from a distance that a main course was already sold out by 7 p.m.! The service was okay, but a bit slow. Enthusiastic young people. It was packed, but I've seen things run smoothly there with fewer people in the past. Desserts all came with ice cream, which was a bit less... I opted for a "dame blanche." It should have been served with hot chocolate sauce. I received it neatly in a sauce boat, but it was cold and no better than a "supermarket bottle." I went home with mixed feelings.

I had reserved a table and arrived on time. Due to the crowds, finding a parking space was quite difficult. This isn't usually the case. After arriving, I ordered drinks and shortly afterward, the main courses and side dishes. Regarding the side dishes, we quickly discovered that one side dish had been forgotten, which was quickly resolved after I pointed out the matter. I must say that we had to wait quite a long time for both the starter and the main course. Guests who arrived later, for example, received their main course much sooner. When I confronted the staff about this, they apologized for being quite busy. I can understand that, but having to wait an hour for the starter to be served, despite their understanding, rubs me the wrong way. The same applies to the main course. In my opinion, waiting an hour for something to be served is far too long. Consequently, our lunch lasted almost three hours, which I consider extremely long, even for a Saturday lunch. I should add that after I brought this up with the staff, I wasn't charged for the side dishes.

I've been coming here for over 20 years. Unfortunately, my last visit left much to be desired. The Salade Riche (€39) was noticeably small this time. What made it even more galling was that a BNN member at the table next to me got the same dish, but in a much larger portion. Selective service based on who you are (or not) is unacceptable. For now, I'm postponing my visits.

It's been a while since we've eaten at Rust Wat, but the recent reopening made us curious, and what a fantastic lunch we had! Not only is the innovative menu difficult to choose from, but we also loved the new cocktails. It's great that you can have an aperitif first! Such lovely people work there, and they go above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful experience. If you have to choose from the menu, go for the Salade Riche. Exactly as it should be, generously filled with the freshest ingredients. We've already booked our next reservation!

A place that lives up to its name. We've been coming to Restaurant Rust Wat for years. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined rapidly in recent years, but we kept coming back, if only for the beautiful location and the delicious bitterbal. We're therefore very pleased with the arrival of a new chef who creates surprising dishes for both lunch and dinner, and the drinks menu is also very worthwhile. We definitely recommend it if you want to relax by the water and don't feel like you have to make way for another place. The atmosphere inside is also relaxed, so you can enjoy it all year round. We'd love to visit you again soon.

We had a lovely evening here. The menu offers enough choice without being overwhelming, and everything we ordered tasted great. The service was friendly and helpful, although it took a little longer between courses than expected. But the atmosphere made up for that. We will definitely be back.

The food was truly excellent. There is nothing to complain about. The dishes were more than fine and offered surprising twists that made the dinner special. What left something to be desired, however, was the service. The staff seemed rushed and the tables seemed overbooked. In the rush, tables were quickly cleared, which detracted from the experience. There was a lack of personal attention: no suitable wine was suggested with the dish and water was not refilled. Such details make the difference and would make the experience much more complete and hospitable.

Tonight we were once again very spoiled…, delicious food, great service, we certainly enjoyed the hospitality of Gigi and her friendly staff, in short, a relaxed atmosphere in a warm environment!!!

Finally ate outside again at the most beautiful spot in Blaricum. We had a lunch menu (sea bass ceviche with avocado and veal with asparagus) and it was delicious. Friendly service, nice wine and a nice afternoon.

After not visiting Rust Wat for a long time due to previous disappointments in the quality, we decided to dine again after the recent takeover. The quality has improved somewhat, but unfortunately remains below par. The oysters were fresh, but the dressing was bland and lacked flavor. The service was friendly, but forgot a few small details. We did not like the soup. The Turbotin, on the other hand, was excellently prepared, while the cod fillet was disappointing. In general, the main courses were of considerably better quality than the starters. All dishes were very salty. All in all, we rate this experience with a 6, which for us is 3 stars. Hopefully the new concept will flourish in the coming months and the kitchen will be further elevated. For now, it is unfortunately not at that level yet. The place is beautiful, by the way.

Great food! Especially the tuna starter, turbotin main and lamb were incredibly tasty. Romanoff dessert was the least, lacked some taste. But the cheerful hostess Gigi and the chef who came by made it a big 10!

Hidden gem! Hidden between the woods and situated on a large pond is a lovely sunny terrace. The service is friendly and hospitable. Informal but very correct. Extremely pleasant! The food was delicious. Especially the steak tartare.. what a lovely classic! This is an absolute “one to remember” for us, so we would love to come back again.

Not been there for a long time, but on the recommendation that a new chef has taken over, reserved for lunch. The location remains beautiful, with a lovely terrace on an idyllic water feature in Blaricum - a place you like to go to. Expectations were also exceeded in other areas: surprisingly composed dishes of high-quality ingredients, beautifully presented and with excellent hospitality and service. A successful experience in all respects.

Small menu, in the asparagus season they had no asparagus, very expensive salad. Sloppy restaurant, flowers on the table completely withered. Staff had plastic bags, jackets moped helmets on the tables. Sloppy and messy place. Only the location is nice

We have been coming to Rust Wat for decades. Experienced everything from good to bad. It has been good for some time now. We had lunch there. All dishes were really well prepared, albeit slightly overpriced. The menu is quite limited. The service was friendly and attentive. The terrace, the place to be when the weather is good, could get a little more charisma and a little more attention. For example, with more/better flowers on the table and elsewhere.

I was there with my family and it was a great experience on the boat with the grill, everything was great. The staff was also very nice. We go there more often.
