Say less in Nieuwe Pijp

We had a really delicious meal here! The Burney Bek sandwich is especially recommended.

I’m from Texas, so barbecue culture is essentially baked into my DNA. The don’t serve bad food. The meat is tender and well-seasoned. The white sauce clashed a tiny bit with the meat, but it’s good! That noted, I have no idea why they're putting lettuce and tomato on pulled-rib sandwiches (it’s not a burger guys, even if you call it one). That. Is. Not. A. Thing. A wilted piece of warm lettuce does not go with any sort of barbecue. Ever. It’s gross and slimy and weird. Same with the tomato. Not a barbecue component. They should save their money by cutting those out of their sandwich prep. Barbecue sandwiches with pulled meats have either sour pickle rounds (not sweet) or raw white onion slices. Either in the sandwich, or offered on the side so the customer can add them themselves. Both of these toppings are designed to cut through the fatty richness of the meat and sauce. These offer tang and freshness. That’s barbecue. Beyond that, their menu seems to be having an identity crisis. They were selling some pretty great Caesar salads! I mean, sure, that’s a weird contrast to barbecue, but they were nice. Those aren’t on the menu anymore. In fact, not much is. Now? Three sandwiches, ribs, jerk chicken and potato gratin. Not exactly a barbecue side, that last one. No mac and cheese, coleslaw, corn, baked beans, jalapeños, potato salad, greens, cornbread or macaroni salad. It’s odd, because we all have access to the internet, and thus an ability to research the specifics of certain food cultures. That they don’t seem to know how to complete their menu is sort of baffling. But again, the meat is nice. Past that? They’re lacking. And finally, they’re VASTLY overpriced, but that’s basically every restaurant in Amsterdam. Still, almost twelve Euros for a pretty small sandwich is not a great way to get diners onboard. I wish them the best, but they need to do some work to make their menu worth a customer’s time and money.

The food was good, maby a little bit on the small side, but good. Had the pulled pork with potatoes. Only downside is that I bit on 3 pieces of bone and now my jaw hurts...

What a lovely new spot this is! I was looking for some BBQ in Amsterdam and my girl found this spot. I had the Pitmaster Burger and a Julius Patois. They both were amazing!!

Very nice staff.. the food was also one of a kind! I never tasted such good jerk chicken 🤤 and those ribs with the mash.. pff keep up the good work guys! Next time I’ll try the Alfredo and the Spartan.

Please do not order here. Burgers are 10 euro, and they are tiny. The pulled meat still had bones in it. The pasta was simple and tasteless. They used the butt of the lettuce on the burgers. Chips are overpriced.
