Honestly, the food is very delicious, the portions are large, and the owner is very nice. The price, compared to Amsterdam prices and the portion size, is reasonable.

We found this charming cozy spot at the beginning of our week long stay in Amsterdam and came back twice! It’s a small space so if you’re sensitive to louder environments, maybe it’s not for you but we enjoyed the happy chatter amongst happy guests. The food and service were both AMAZING!

We’re total foodies and love Indian cuisine, and I have to say—this place was absolutely outstanding! The flavors were spot on, the service was impeccable, and it instantly brought back so many wonderful memories from back home. Without a doubt, we’ll be back in a heartbeat. A little tip—make a reservation if you can. We waited about 30 minutes for a table, but it was completely worth every second!

A truly great restaurant! The food was outstanding. The chicken with sweet sauce, raisins, and rice was a particular highlight. The naan bread with dip was also incredibly delicious, and they even served a small appetizer beforehand. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, and the wine paired perfectly. It's excellent value for money, and the portions are generous and filling. If I'm back in Amsterdam, I'll definitely eat here again. 👍

Brilliant service, AMAZING food. This place so far is the best Indian food I have eaten in Amsterdam by far. Managed to get a walk in table, but it was early (Sunday). It started getting busier though later on. Would definitely recommend this place.

The food is so delicious, you feel like it's truly Indian and you can't get enough of it. The service is more than wonderful. The halal owner himself welcomes you, serves you, and does everything. The price is considered reasonable compared to Amsterdam restaurants.

The most authentic Punjabi food in whole of Amsterdam. This is coming from a Punjabi travelling to Netherlands from Amritsar. What food! What service! There were 5 of us who showed up without a reservation. And the owner pulled out all stops to accommodate us. In addition, we were given freshly prepared tandoori food. Chicken was amazing, fish was amazing, and dal was out of this world!

First off, the entrance door is directly in front of a table. Anytime someone enters the first table gets the cold air and has to move slightly. I ordered chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. It was fine. The taste was rather bland on both. Coming from the USA, I had very high hopes for flavorful Indian food, I was disappointed here.

Small but welcoming Indian restaurant. Unfortunately, we waited a little while to order due to the arrival of customers/takeaways all at once. Once ordered, though, the service was great and the food special. We ordered 2 complete menus and the portions were more than generous but satisfying! A plus to the waiter who made us feel welcome. Highly recommended!

I had dinner there last Monday. The food is very good (nan cheese, korma). I put 2 stars because there were 4 of us and the restaurant owner did not want to divide the rating by 4 for reasons of the country's new tax. Oddly, in cash payment this no longer posed a problem. We spent a week eating in the city's restaurants and it never posed a problem. Damage.

We had diner in Shah Jahan last Monday. The food was good and very tasty. We were 4 persons and when we asked for 4 separate recipes for the our table check, they told us that is not possible and there is new law that is not allowing more than two payement for one check !!! Nevertheless with cash, it was ok. I am sorry but we spent 5 nights in Amsterdam and we have never faced this elsewhere!

A small restaurant in the heart of Jordaan. The food was really good, served hot and tasted authentic. I especially enjoyed the paneer dishes. However, the restaurant is a bit cramped and some tables can be very uncomfortable and inconvenient to sit in, especially need the main entrance where the door hits your chair. The waiter seemed very annoyed when we asked him to clear our table (where the leftover dishes and fallen food of the people before us were placed). It took more than 20 minutes before we got a clean table which was a bit disappointing. On a busy evening, it can be very loud and you have to shout to be heard on the table unfortunately.

If you are looking for an authentic Indian restaurant in Amsterdam, Shahjahan is the place to be. They make the food as spicy (or mild) as you want it. The chicken madras with the garlic naan is my favorite. It is a small family restaurant that does everything it can to make your dinner as fun as possible. I like coming there!!

Best Indian restaurant in Amsterdam for sure! The food, the staff, the taste of the food. Everything about it is just amazing. Beware some dishes are super spicy as explained on the menu but if you would like to try some spicy food just be careful as it can get super spicy but its super delicious at the same time! I would recommend trying the tiki masala and the cheese naan bread. What a combo!! You get alot of food too so you will never feel “ unfulfilled “ after you done eating. We have went 3 times since we first went there, that’s how good they’re! Definitely a place i will keep coming back to.

Great food and very nice people, a good place to go for dinner

I ordered via Uber and paid 61,76 for trash that ended in the waste. It‘s unbelievable what this restaurant delivered. Butterfly prawns: mega salty and cold. Note: I do eat very salty. When I say overly salty, it‘s completely over the top. Chicken tikka tandoori: no curry sauce, cold, dry chicken, raw belly pepper, raw onions. Literally uncooked. Garlic chicken tikka: chicken allover rubbed with masses of completely raw garlic grains, cold, dry chicken, no curry sauce, raw belly pepper, raw onions. Fanta: missing Both dishes contained zero sauce, just a puddle of oil. Weirdly seasoned, not balanced. And when I say that all dishes were cold, I don’t mean lukewarm but literally cold. I was speechless, mailed multiple times with Uber - no refund, just for the missing drink. I cannot even begin to express my disgust for you. How you DARE to treat people who pay you a lot of money. You are a disgrace. Shame on you. May you get back what you deserve.
