Finally, a vegetarian and organic restaurant with a good selection! The salads are excellent, with vegetables cooked to great flavors. The prices are reasonable. The desserts are amazing; I had a yuzu chocolate with an espresso—divine! The macrobiotic Oshawa cake is a treat, even for your health. I'll come back one morning for the scones; I've only admired them so far because they look so beautiful! The servers are very friendly. The place is pleasant; there's the Odin organic store next door where I did my shopping, also with reasonable prices.

As a non vegetarian... Utterly spoiled for choice and flavour. Paying for your food by weight should be the norm. Great food, great flavour, friendly service and great value. Thanks again!!!

It is always nice to sit inside or outside at Spirit; the selection of delicious food and drinks is enormous! I prefer sitting outside rather than inside, by the way; partly because of the acoustics (it's quite noisy inside) but mainly because of the chairs. Yesterday I sat inside and noticed that the (fabric-covered) chairs have become really dirty; I had noticed that months ago as well. Yesterday I sat on a chair that was actually too dirty for words; one big palette of stains, it reminded me of chairs in a closed ward of a nursing home. And that is, of course, unacceptable! Spirit is certainly not a cheap place, but ordinary, clean chairs fit in with that; otherwise, you are not taking your customers seriously, and I find that reprehensible. So I would say: clean those chairs (and quickly!).

The food is excellent, with a wide variety, so that even this carbs-restricted person found plenty to eat. The cheesecake (couldn’t help but take a couple of bites from my companion’s portion) is superb. I enjoyed the asparagus soup and veggies prepared in all sorts of ways. It is a bit pricey for a restaurant that is cafeteria style. But the reason that I gave only 4 stars is that they could keep the place cleaner. It’s fine that we are asked to bus our own plates after eating, but they still need to wipe the tables down, and the outdoor dining area needs to be kept much cleaner. August 27, 2026 Update: We ate here again, and the poor maintenance of the place has taken its toll. There is simply no excuse to have a chair that looks like this photo. (I’ve not bothered with photos of the food - there are loads of those). We still enjoyed the food, and so would return, but I really wish they’d do a better job of making the place clean and nice. Doesn’t have to be fancy to be nice.

Vegetarian food with a multitude of dishes (all delicious).

For €3.60 per 100g, you could pile your plate high, and there were only delicious options. Many, if not all, of the dishes were vegetarian, and the flavors were incredible, ranging from "wow, I know that!" to "I never would have thought it would go so well together!" Absolutely delicious. The price is a bit high, but it's worth it. There's something for everyone, young and old, including great desserts.

Loved the atmosphere and concept here! I took a plate (pictured) which was 10 euros. All the food was tasty! Then I took a tray for take away and had a bowl of ice cream! I would HIGHLY recommend!

Price compared to the quality of the food is high, ambient is ok but I found it somehow depressing, behaviour of the personnel was not welcoming and I didn’t find it professional. The staff who was doing the organizing was literally blocking my way toward the self service a couple of minutes later I realised she was trying to close the self service but instead of telling me or simply waiting till I and other people in the restaurant finish and then closing, she was trying to push us out with a none verbal aggression. It was very unprofessional. In general I don’t recommend this restaurant

We had a nice meal here during the Pride parade, just like we are used to doing in Rotterdam. There was a smaller selection, but what was available was delicious.

When I first discovered this place two years ago, I loved it: I appreciated the variety and quality of the buffet, even though the price was extremely high. I went back this year (July 2026) and found that the quality of the buffet had significantly declined: the food was bland. Everything I ordered was tasteless. The only thing I liked was the soup. Given the high prices, this place isn't worth the trip.

Everything here tastes incredibly fresh, healthy, and full of flavor. I love the wide variety of dishes, you can always create a different plate. The Snickert dessert is an favorite of mine, so good that I'm going to try making it myself! A great spot if you're looking for a delicious buffet with vegan food

Very nice vegetarian restaurant with a twist. You choose your food from a buffet and then pay for it per 100g. It can be a bit difficult to judge how much you have got but if money isn't a worry I would definitely recommend.

The most delicious restaurant in Amsterdam. If it were around the corner from me, I would go much more often. Healthy and tasty! It is incredible what you do with different vegetables and so many different flavors.

Nice little eatery where you serve yourself from a self-service buffet and pay per plate. Very many creative dishes, especially vegetables, peas, tofu varieties, and lettuce. No meat or fish dishes. It is a shame about the truly terrible acoustics, where the constant squeaking sound of sliding chairs, the rumbling of the kitchen staff, and playing children can be very overpowering. So certainly not a sensory-friendly environment where you can come for a quiet bite to eat. Compare it to a noisy IKEA restaurant. It would definitely have been worth one more star with this feedback.

We stumbled upon Spirit while looking for something to eat and to say we were satisfied is an understatement. As a couple with allergies there is something here to eat for everyone whether your'e gluten or dairy free as well as vegan options! The staff were also really amazing (Rabbit) in particular made us feel really welcomed. I cant wait for my next meal at Spirit!

Update 2026: falafel is falafhell....not good any more UPDATE Organic Vegan meals, (NOT ANY MORE very good falafel!!). No Meat. Tastes are quite good. Lots of asian as well as mediterranean and middle eastern dishes. However concept is little fusion! Nice place and nice food except it is little pricey!

Update: chairs by the window replaced. Fewer fabric chairs that are so dirty. Went again today, Friday, May 28. All the dishes listed on the top menu (kofte, grilled burgers, cauliflower bites) were cold. Toilets really dirty. Went last week too and it really stood out to me then. It looks like someone peed on the walls. The same toilet brushes for years. Out of soap. Trash can full. Unfortunately, we live too far from Rotterdam, so we are going to look for a similar restaurant where the hygiene is a bit better and the quality of the food (hot) is also better. This is really a shame.

School cafeteria food. Over cooked not tasty. If you know how good Brazilian buffees are the don't expect anything like this here. Also way over priced for this quality.

The dishes are very varied, diverse, fresh, and delicious.

Fantastic place for vegetarians and vegans. You grab a plate, put on whatever you fancy, and the plate is weighed at the checkout. The weight determines the price. Furthermore, a relaxed atmosphere, a large international crowd, and very friendly staff.

Although it’s a buffet you do not feel the typical climate of such kind of place, you feel more like in a normal restaurant, but you can choose a lot of different dishes, you can try different — you just take whatever you want and pay for the weight. You have everything — from starters to salads, from soups to main courses, choice of different bread and sauces, desserts and drinks. The majority of the dishes are vegan, which I was glad of. I especially was pleased with fruit salad and chocolate muss — it’s a delicious memory of childhood.

Nice, spacious restaurant with a casual atmosphere, an ideal meeting place. You don't have to wait to be served; you simply grab a plate, serve yourself, and then pay at the cashier based on the weight of your meal. Wide selection, everything fresh and of good quality, and everything is vegetarian! They also have tea, coffee, and delicious cake. Tip: If you park in the underground garage at Vomar, you can get a discount on your parking ticket at the Spirit cashier.

I can't think of a more wholesome place to get your food in Amsterdam than this one. What an absolute gem.

Food was okay, staff very rude. The lady at the counter kept rolling her eyes - including when I pointed out a fly in the food. Which was the other issue - while they gave a plate for free after, the food should ideally not have insects in it

Upon entering Spirit, you see a beautifully arranged buffet. The plates are warmed, the food is vegetarian/vegan and, for me personally, a discovery of new flavors. From savory to sweet, everything tastes delicious. You can choose from 5 types of soup and a selection of 5 types of bread to accompany the soup. The scones are my absolute favorite. What you shouldn't forget is that your plate of food is weighed, and since it involves organic food, it adds up quite a bit. So start with small scoops!

It was so great. Extremely delicious and many vegan options. The service (lucie and rabbit) was so nice, friendly and helpful. We will come one hundred percent again. 10/10!!

I really do love the food there. The restaurant has a great selection, healthy options, and everything is freshly made – I absolutely love it. I’ve been going there regularly for multiple years now, probably once or twice a week to pick up food. However, at this point I can only give three stars, and that’s purely because of the very poor service lately. It’s really disappointing to say that after being such a loyal customer for so long. Some of the waiters can be quite rude and ignorant. Today, for example, I genuinely felt like I was annoying the waitress simply because I wanted to pay – which is just not acceptable. I truly hope the service improves, because the food itself deserves much better.

I frequently visit Spirit in Amsterdam. Because of the spacious place and reasonably good food and many choices of food. Also because they have very long opening hours. (08:00-22;00) I’m not a vegetarian. I come there mainly for the very good espresso and very good choice of pastries. Are there any negatives? Yes, don’t go to the toilet. Very dirty. It’s nog maintained very well. Also a lot of chairs are very dirty. And lately a lot of young Indian staff who don’t speak Dutch and poor English. One female Indian was even very rude to me when I asked for my double espresso in a cup instead of glass. Also some Polish staff who clearly don’t know what they are doing. The Dutch staff are good. Prices: expensive.

I come here for lunch sometimes, and I have a very basic soup with a slice of bread for €6.95. And now the same amount of granola and a cappuccino for €17. I don't understand you anymore...

Good food. The atmosphere is a bit lacking. Dirty, dirty chairs and sofas. Please change the chairs and the dirty sofa next to the toilet. A cup of tea, almost €4, is just hot water and still cheaper than espresso. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

A wonderful place to enjoy tea or coffee, lunch, or dinner. No hassle with food allergies, as everything is clearly marked. Gluten-free and vegan (dairy-free is no problem, either). The cakes are no exception.

Delicious vegetarian food! Everything I tried was incredible. Buffet charged by weight so you pick what you want and how much. Not a veggie/vegan but the amount of choice meant you didn’t really notice the lack of meat.

Simply excellent. Everything is deliciously prepared using organic ingredients. You simply walk past the buffet and put whatever appeals to you on your plate. Payment is by weight, so you have a direct influence on your bill. You can order soup as a starter, a roll, and also delicious desserts. The lighting and atmosphere are more reminiscent of French establishments, but it's certainly not unpleasant. Another advantage: you can walk directly to a very large Odin health food store. Or the other way around; shop there first and then have coffee at Spirit; drinks are served fresh at the cash register. A major advantage of this all: You don't have to bother staff asking if you enjoyed your meal or if you'd like anything else to eat or drink.

Easy and delicious vegetarian food in buffet form

Can 2 carnivores find joy in a vegetarian buffet? Yes. This food was delicious. The room is spacious and quiet. We grabbed a plate, filled it with well-prepared food and paid by weight for it at the counter. The cauliflower tempura is excellent and the broccolini salad was yummy. Counter staff excellent.

Great food, all vegetarian and organic. Nice cakes, especially rare to find lactose-free options anywhere in Amsterdam, and thia place has a variety of them! Self service, not very cozy, and super conplicated toilet door contraptions, but definitely a nice place to eat or have a coffee.

The food is delicious, the coffee is also good, now all that is needed is for the staff to be a bit more enthusiastic and friendly and then you have a top-notch restaurant.

Yeah, yeah, the food was delicious, but that was familiar, right? What lasted through the days and weeks was H's fury. Sometimes people talk so eloquently about everything that comes their way that you get so excited about life itself. Well, if that isn't a gift...

Very dirty place. All chairs have spills on them and are very dirty. The floor is dirty. Normally we wouldn’t care about the floor cleanliness but when you come with young kids, you would like the place to be at least clean… We had full plates of food and it cost 30€ each. We were shocked. We could’ve gone to an all-you-can eat for 40€ not so far away and that was very clean and included meat too. And we were very hungry after finishing our food in this place but spending at least 30€ more per person for no meat would’ve been preposterous. For this money you would think they would come by your table to ask what drinks you want to order and afterwards to clean the table. Wrong. You have to queue at the counter, where there were 3 ladies today at 19:00, but they were all chit chatting and I had to wait for them to finish their conversation before one of them decided to help me. And no, they are not friendly, as other reviews mentioned. The ladies are bored and seem bothered that they need to stop their chit chat in order to weigh my food and take my money… We’re not coming here again.
