Spontaneous dinner for three at Thijs's. Meh, I don't really want it this way anymore. The mussels were fine, but my satay was stale (I had stomach problems afterward). The two men serving were more interested in the ladies at the tables next to us, who were smoking in the tent or busy on their phones. After a while, when we arrived, we asked for the menu. No one asked if we enjoyed it or if we wanted another drink. Finally, we asked if they could please clear the table. We paid, and bye.

The young man who served us was excellent, prompt, and pleasant. The atmosphere is cozy. We chose the salmon fillet with lobster sauce from the specials board. I appreciated the original vegetable combination: braised fennel with samphire and peas. The fish was delicious with crispy skin and a generous portion. The fact that the samphire had a single hard piece didn't bother me at this reasonable price. For dessert, we had coffee and bonbons. It's a shame the delicious bonbons came straight from the refrigerator. We will definitely be back.

Eetfcafé Thijs is quickly becoming one of our favorite restaurants. The food is delicious (meat and fish), and the service is enthusiastic, friendly, and skilled. Yesterday, Naut was very helpful. When we were there, they also had a great 70s disco Spotify playlist on, which definitely added to the atmosphere. Especially in the summer, it's lovely to sit outside.

I found Louis's personal training program (Match Performance) through the co-owner of Eercafé Thijs (Match Sport). I was in terrible shape, and that's improved significantly. I've also lost over 20 kilos, but I still need to lose another 20 kilos. Plenty of work to do. At the same time, I became a client at the cozy Eetcafé Thijs (Match), which also has a fantastic terrace. The excellent kitchen team is also important, helping me maintain a healthy diet. In short, the entire facility is my "living room," and I'm thrilled about that.

*Addition based on owner's comment: If the owner would use the time and energy he invests in justifying reviews to fix his kitchen, service, and prices, this discussion wouldn't be necessary at all. Priorities, Thijs. -------------------- What a disappointment this place has become. Thijs was once known as an affordable, high-quality restaurant with generous portions and hospitality. Now it's nothing more than an overpriced, pathetic establishment where customer focus and quality are completely lacking. The prices are simply absurd: €6.10 for a craft beer – you wouldn't even pay that much in the heart of Amsterdam. And then there's this 'special offer': coffee and a piece of cake for €9.50… so they call that a promotion? Moreover, the food was far below par. Everything has to be ordered separately, which makes it extra expensive, and to make matters worse, we got sick from it. When we pointed this out, we didn't even get a decent response. Instead, the owner came to our table, impulsively took away all the plates, and tried to "make amends" in a passive-aggressive manner. He didn't let us finish, radiated irritation, and clearly didn't take criticism well. This was our very last time. Where Thijs was once a household name, it's now a soulless establishment that prices itself out of the market with Spanish street-hall quality. A real shame. What remains is just an expensive label on a disappointing experience.

Born and raised in Sloten. I come here every week with my friends from the neighborhood. The atmosphere is great and the staff is fantastic! From bingo nights to parties, it's always fun and cozy. The food is also delicious. They also have tasty snacks to go with drinks, especially now that the flames have returned :) Thijs (the owner) is fantastic and always provides a nice, personal chat and makes you feel good. All this at a fair price. One minor complaint: Bowie the cat is very sweet and everyone likes him, but he's staying away from me now (I might have sat on him once...). Bowie, I'd love to make it up to you!

After having eaten at Eetcafe Thijs many times last week, we saw the flyer for the "all you can eat" BBQ today 05-07-2025. We arrived today and saw that it was pleasantly busy, we got tokens because it was not possible to pay at the bar. We paid for the BBQ and got into the queue where we heard Thijs, who was standing behind the BBQ together with his chef, "shouting" across the terrace when he had a prawn, piece of spare rib, or satay ready, the queue got longer and longer and Thijs became increasingly unfriendly, when I finally arrived at the BBQ I asked for a burger for my wife, my son and myself to which he responded: yes, it will take a while, come back later, so I asked him to give me a signal when they were almost ready or ready and that I was sitting 2 meters next to him. He would do this but unfortunately this did not happen. No problem, it can happen, I thought... he is busy. So I got back in line and when I arrived at the BBQ the burgers were gone again and again I was told: it will take a while but come back later, I said I would stay because the burgers were gone before I got back. Thijs reacted a bit irritated laconically and said I have a chicken for you and it is 1 piece at a time. Back at the table where my wife and son were sitting with a few pieces of baguette I gave the chicken to my son and walked back into the line where I saw that a large table with regular guests were calmly getting 2 and 3 pieces of meat and 2 burgers per person on a plate. I arrived back at the BBQ and asked if the burger had worked out and no they were gone again, I could get a black burnt half burger which I took with me but cut off the edges and gave to my son, in the meantime we had been going on for over an hour and my wife and I had only had a few sprigs of lettuce and both 1 rib of a spare rib. My wife got in line, arrived at the bbq and thijs saw that under her nose the last 3 burgers were given to 1 person to which she responded hello we also just pay, then at least give 1 to us instead of 3 to 1 person. Thijs smiled and said: I'm not going to argue ma'am and threw another black burnt piece of burger on her plate. My wife swallowed her words, walked away and after I told her that it was not very nice how he handled this we finished our drinks and just when we wanted to leave because we had had enough of this "special" guy he passed a plate with 2 bald roasted burgers and a very dirty laugh. We left and will never come back, we have been coming here for years and although it has not always been good we thought the atmosphere outside on the terrace was great when thijs himself was not there. But fortunately there are many other places where the owner understands it a lot better

Really a very nice cafe with nice employees, especially Sammy, Naut, Anniek and Iris. All very cozy!

Due to busy times, a few things went wrong, this can happen, I was able to resolve this very well with the owner, he really did this in a great way, and responded, and I give him a big compliment for this, so definitely recommended to go there, and if there is anything, report it immediately, my mistake was to do it afterwards. Great location in Nieuw-Sloten. A real connector! Large terrace, delicious food and drinks and fun activities such as pub quiz and salsa evening. You are always warmly welcomed. Changing menu and current specials such as sangria with the nice weather. A really great place!

Great food and a nice location. The staff were not all that friendly and when we read the receipt it turned out that we had not been charged the menu price but the price for individual dishes. That is a shame. Nevertheless, it is worth repeating, but I hope that they will reconsider their offer for vegetarians. That is still very limited. Postscript: I have emailed them at their request but have not heard anything back.

Hét go-to terras hier in de buurt. Altijd gezellig, altijd een plezier om er te zijn. Vriendelijke staf, leuke kaart(en). Ik heb er al twee persoonlijke feestjes gevierd met een klein gezelschap, elke keer weer raak en komen we er zeer tevreden weer vandaan.

Let op: dit bericht betreft niet Eetcafé Thijs zelf, maar de sportonderneming Match Performance van Luis Lomas, die hier personal en small group training verzorgt. Ik wil toekomstige bezoekers waarschuwen voor de personal training en groepslessen die via Match Performance worden aangeboden. Hoewel de begeleiding in eerste instantie persoonlijk en professioneel lijkt, is mijn ervaring helaas het tegenovergestelde — en dat werd zichtbaar na ongeveer twee maanden, zodra Luis je vertrouwen heeft gewonnen. Na duidelijke afspraken met Luis begon ik met personal training, maar al snel werd ik zonder overleg meerdere keren doorgeschoven naar andere, vaak onervaren trainers die nog in opleiding waren. Luis was daarbij zelf niet aanwezig, wat betekende dat er geen begeleiding was voor mij én geen aansturing voor de trainers. Er vond geen overdracht plaats, er werden geen doelen besproken en er was geen afstemming — terwijl dat juist de kern hoort te zijn van persoonlijke begeleiding, zoals hij die promoot. Je voortgang raakt daardoor volledig zoek. Luis komt structureel afspraken niet na, toont selectieve loyaliteit en schuift verantwoordelijkheid af wanneer je hem hierop aanspreekt. Zelfs na herhaalde feedback blijft dit patroon bestaan. Tijdens sessies zit hij regelmatig op zijn telefoon, loopt hij weg of is hij bezig zichzelf in de spiegel te bewonderen in plaats van met jouw training. Als je serieus aan je gezondheid en doelen wilt werken, raad ik het ten zeerste af om een traject te volgen via Luis van Match Performance en zijn team.

I was there yesterday and ordered fries, you pay 5 euros. The container was still filled under the rim. Then I said something about it. I received another container from the house due to good service and it was immediately well filled. To sit there just means filling your wallet and ripping off the customers 😡

This is really the gem of Nieuw Sloten. Nice cafe with a few squash courts, a very diverse menu with specials that are proudly mentioned at the table and everything is deliciously prepared. We always like to come here for a bite to eat and, when the weather is nice, to have a beer on the terrace.

Very nice meal at Thijs. We sat around the corner, which is very quiet, no music. I thought the music was too loud in the main part, but you don't have to sit there. Even though we were around the corner, Naut (our waiter) came by regularly. He gives very good service. He makes you feel welcome and you have another old-fashioned pleasant evening.

Had dinner with a large group. Everything arrived quite on time. We sat in a quiet corner. The redfish (instead of the salmon) with parsnips and miso was a really great dish. I really enjoyed it! The fish board beforehand was also very tasty. Service was good, large table is always a bit messy but it went fine.

A very nice location! The squash court could use a little renovation in some places on the floor, but overall it is a super nice place! The restaurant is also super cozy! There are 500 plants 🪴 good food and friendly staff!

I really like it there, the food is delicious and the atmosphere and staff are really top 10, but you are often closed in by chain smokers on the terrace and that is certainly not pleasant and I hope they can do something about that. .

Finaly the perfect breakfast joint in Amsterdam! And they are open at half past 10, which is not common here it seems... The foid, the service are both perfect! Quick service and high quality food. Highly recomended.
