Food is tasty and the staff was really nice! Cozy interior. Charging 17 euros for four ice-cube size pieces of tofu in chili oil and calling it a main course is crazy though, docking a star for that.

Elevated diner with a verrrry comforting and warm atmosphere, super friendly staff and a great sense for quality in all produce, especially fish and meat. You go here and your heart will be full.

I’ve been wanting to come here for a long time and I was not disappointed. The staff are so wonderful and attentive (not very common in Amsterdam) - the atmosphere inside is 10/10. The food was great, perfectly cooked eggs and crispy bacon, the biscuit out of this world, great hashbrown. The sausage gravy and grits were a tiny bit underseasoned but this also might be personal preference - and luckily great hot sauce and hot honey were available too. Can’t fault it and reasonably priced. Will be coming back VERY soon.

We were fortunate enough to get a table when we arrived around 5pm. Many others after us were turned away, so best to reserve ahead. The food and its flavours were on point, my only critique is that the fried chicken breading and hash brown crust was way too hard. If they fixed that the meal would have been perfect. However, the salmon roe and cream dip was amazing, the cocktails were very good, and the steak was incredible. Service and the atmosphere were excellent.

Food was okay. Service friendly but had to wave for drinks every single time. Then ordered a €100 steak and they still charged me separately for the mayo, ketchup and chimi. Ended up paying €200 for 2 persons with 3 drinks each, not worth it.

Had the lime pie for dessert and it strongly tasted of blue cheese! not sure if as they said they plate the pie near the salads, or if something in the pie was rotten/moldy. When i told the waitress about it she seemed quite unbothered. Came to this spot with strong expectations- and left disappointed theyre not doing much to uphold their reputation. The fried chicken was too salty with absolutely no hint of seasoning , the steak was a bit chewy (bigger pieces of fat than steak). Don’t recommend.

As an American in the Netherlands, Stacks Diner feels like home. The food has a Southern American vibe that truly hits the spot. Their biscuits are incredible, and their Thanksgiving feast was fantastic—the turkey was juicy, and every dish was divine. * also shout out to the hot honey butter. Instead of pumpkin pie, they served Key lime pie, and it was so good salty and sour and sweet. The margarita was strong, and the service was warm and friendly, with many American staff adding to the welcoming vibe. One small drawback: half the seating is backless, so if you need a chair with support, it’s worth asking in advance. Overall, Stacks Diner Amsterdam is o my shortlist of places to eat out. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is cozy, and I hope they stay in Amsterdam for years to come. Highly recommended!

Incredibly good food, with so much texture. Super nice service, and a hot sauce to die for, which you can actually purchase in the deli close by (thankfully!!! i need the sauce in my life from now on). Special recognition for Crispy Grilled Caesar Salad 🥗& Chicken Biscuits 🍔… and the world’s best key lime pie🍰

Great service, although a little slow with the drinks. They were so kind that I didn't mind as much. Love the fact they also offer free tap water! Food was nice and good to share. The steak was good but the chimichurri could've been better. Bisquit with fried chicken was good, as were the side dishes. A little expensive but would still recommend. Make sure you save some space for a dessert! Butterscotch crumble was heavy but amazing and the lime pie nice and fresh.

Stacks is one of the many hidden gems in Amsterdam, after being recommended it by my girlfriend and having tried it for the first time tonight the words I can really find to say is wow. Everything we had was absolutely wonderful. From the textures of each dish and the flavor this restaurant was an amazing experience I would recommend it to anyone living in or visiting Amsterdam. Excellent comfort food with a very cozy diner vibe. Would recommend the hash browns, the fish biscuit, apple pecan crumble, cheese grits and the cesar salad. Will certainly be coming back for another meal here! Also note that the service is kind and very attentive / helpful and we sat right by the kitchen where we had nice conversations with the chefs and waiters/waitresses.

We were in Amsterdam over the weekend and experienced the full Stacks Experience: Stacks Diner for dinner and brunch, followed by a visit to their Deli next door—an experience we wouldn’t have missed for the world. The authentic food and amazing people made our several visits unforgettable, and they certainly won’t be our last. Stacks is a must when in Amsterdam! Tip: Get their cookies as take and back at the Deli - genius and sooo delicious!

Y’all gotta come here. This place is fire for the burning desire of a home cooked southern meal. Cornbread that made me cry and the best fried chicken I’ve had in town. We also had creamy grits and amazing collard greens.

My fave spot in Amsterdam, can’t recommend this place enough. They brought super nostalgic southern American classics to ams and every time I go they have some fresh new specials. The team is super kind and always takes great care of me and my girlfriend. I wish you guys all the best!

We went to Stacks Diner for a family and friends Thanksgiving dinner. The food was amazing and with generous portions. The staff so attentive despite a busy night. We will be back.

Upon entering the restaurant, the experience immediately started on an awkward note. Despite several staff members noticing us, there was no greeting or assistance. After standing in the doorway for some time, we had to approach the staff ourselves, only to be met with a curt response from a server. Their dismissive attitude made us feel unwelcome right from the beginning. To make matters worse, we were told they needed to check if our table was ready, despite us arriving at the exact time of our reservation. Once seated, our drinks were hastily taken, yet it took an unusually long time for them to arrive. Throughout the evening, it felt as though no one was specifically assigned to our table, forcing us to constantly request service. The lack of coordination was frustrating and made the experience feel chaotic. The same server reappeared multiple times during the meal, and their actions repeatedly diminished our experience. At one point, they carelessly placed a side dish on the table while chatting with another staff member, showing little regard for service standards. The main course followed about ten minutes later than expected. While the steak was cooked to the requested doneness, it was unfortunately so tough that it was difficult to enjoy. Later, the same server mistakenly delivered dessert to our table, only to realize their error and take it back without explanation. This mirrored an earlier mishap when the same side dish was served twice—once before the main course and again afterward. Although the female servers we interacted with were polite and friendly, their efforts were overshadowed by the disorganized service and the unprofessional demeanor of the other staff member. Even when asked how the food was, my polite response of "fine" received no acknowledgment. At checkout, this lack of engagement continued, leaving a cold and impersonal impression. The food itself was, at best, average, and the service uneven. Despite these shortcomings, the restaurant shows potential. With better staff training, a focus on organization, and an emphasis on creating a welcoming atmosphere, this establishment could easily rise to meet the expectations it sets for its diners. For now, however, it misses the mark.

Everything we tasted were so delicious, incredible food and well prepared, my favorite comfort food dining in Amsterdam, also amazing staff, so knowledgeable, kind and helpful. Never had better grilled dry aged beef and also the biscuits, actually even the most basic starters are exploding with flavors.

Tasty American food. The biscuits and gravy are to die for. They also have a small deli a couple doors over so don't get confused! The bar seating is sometimes a little crowded but it's fun to watch them cook and they also have a lot of tables.

Good food, nice atmosphere, service could have been better: waiting until we got our table (which was just the bar, which I personally think is a shame when making a reservation), drinking and taking food, and the entire production of the food and drinks. And of course that shouldn't spoil the fun, but if the staff also comes across as very hasty and rude, that's a shame.

Brunch was excellent!! Go early. I missed out on the hash browns. I suggest adding corned beef hash to the menu. See you for thanksgiving. 🦃

Great atmosphere and really nice staff. The cooking is just about passable. Hash browns were oversalted and overfried to death, and didn't come with roe, as advertised. Crispy fish tasted of plaice that was a day or two past its sell-by-date and the biscuit was rigid and burnt.

One of the best places I have visited in Amsterdam so far. The food was delicious, we had the spicy fried chicken biscuit, buttermilk pancakes, cinnamon bun and a hash brown and everything was great. The service was fantastic, super friendly staff and the owner is very kind. The vibe of the place is just spectacular, greeeeat music and beautiful interior.

Such a fun place! Having lived in in New York for a long time it was so nice to find an authentic American Diner (with insanely delicious food) outside of Brooklyn! The vibe is very relaxed, with a fun, cool crowd, spanning all ages. I went with my mom and my 2 year old and we all felt very much at home. The staff were so sweet to my daughter and brought her proper toys to play with. Must try the pulled pork tortillas, they were insane.

Wow! What an elevated diner experience. I had the blue plate special which was ribs, greens, puréed potatoes and a biscuit for 29€. Everything was amazing, wanted to lick the plate. Atmosphere was vibey, the lighting was perfectly dim without being a strain on the eyes. We snagged a walk in seat at the bar immediately around 7 on a Sat. Everything was perfect. Highly recommend.

What can I say about Stacks Diner? I had the privilege of dining there last Saturday night and let me tell you how great of an experience that was! I was blown away by the wedge salad and the creativeness of its cheesy sauce that embodied the flavor of blue cheese while not overpowering the dishes flavors but complementing them. The steak tartare was also delicious, but the real deal was the chilaquiles. It was my first time trying the dish and honestly I don’t think I’d ever want to try another because I don’t think this one can be topped. For the main we had a biscuit with fried chicken and a steak that was cooked to absolute perfection. The biscuit and fried chicken combo was not my favorite but the flavor and taste of both components was still exceptional. We ended on a high note with the lemon pie that was to die forrrrrr🤤. We also had some cocktails and I can say that their Negroni are definitely worth a shot. Their Paloma’s are exquisite and their margaritas as well (considering I’m not the biggest fan of margaritas). I can definitely recommend stacks diner as one of the best places in Amsterdam to have a fulfilling dinner. Their service is impeccable and their staff is so friendly. If you get lucky you may get a chance to have seats overlooking the bar and kitchen and let me tell you that augments the experience ten folds. Can’t wait to go eat their brunch menu next!!

I over-ordered but it was worth it. The hashbrowns were perfectly cooked and so good I didn’t even desire the accoutrements. The Cesar salad was savory & crunchy & oh so delicious.

Came across this place in a Topjaw video and knew I had to try and hit it during a recent trip. Visited with a group of friends and had an unbelievable meal. All the breads and mixed pickles made for a banging start, that pickled green tomato will live rent free in my mind for a long time. Staff could have tipped us off that the pickles came with bread rather than letting us order a 3rd of the same, but the whipped spicy condiment (butter?) it came with was worth it alone. The steak that followed, ex dairy cow, was a game changer. As we're the fish and chicken biscuits. It was all ace. Wouldn't bother with the hash browns myself next time, lacked a little crisp. Drinks, ambiance and buzz about the place added to it as well. Only thing that let it down was our main sever who gave us the vibe they'd walked off the street, half read the menu and began service with little to no idea what she was selling. A shame. Thankfully this was cleaned up by another member of staff who was really informative and up for the craic. Highly reccomend.

The customer service here was just terrible. Every single step of the process took so long and pestering. We arrive for our reservation and the table is not cleaned off yet. That's fine. We wait 10 minutes. Still not cleaned off yet. So we ask and they take care of it. Then we sit. No menus are given. We wait 10 minutes. Still none. So we ask for the menus. They finally give them to us. We flag them down when we're ready to order. That's fine. But it was starting to feel like we were the ones working. We order everything at once, drinks and food. Drinks come out, and when I tell you this was the most awful undrinkable Bloody Mary, I am not exaggerating. We ask if we can exchange the drink and the waitress agreed and laughed and said "This is the third one to be sent back already today. The bartender got a little experimental with a new recipe". So we move on. Food very slowly starts to come out. We had to remind the waitress of 3 separate things that we had not received yet. Clearly she had not put in the order properly. By the time we reminded her that we had ordered a donut, they had sold out. Very disappointing. Anyways we go to pay, and we see that the Bloody Mary was still on the bill, and we ask the waitress why it was still on there, and she said it was their policy. They can't comp it because technically there was nothing wrong with it and "we just didn't like it". How can you say there was nothing wrong with it? This drink was rancid, and clearly so if three separate people sent it back early in the day. Also, why didn't you tell us when we sent it back that we'd still have to pay for it. Just awful customer service around. Overall, it took almost 3 hours for brunch. Absolutely wild. Probably won't waste my time here again, even with the food being pretty tasty.

Bad service, good food. Passive aggressive waiter, we were 10 minutes late and we were told our table was given away so were told to sit at the bar until our table was ready (10 or so minutes later). It took 40 minutes for us to even get drinks and then we were asked to give up our table after dessert because they needed it, even though service was super slow. The food was original and good, cocktails decent. Not worth the hype, not coming back. Approx. €50 per person

Have had lot of diner food over the years and was so happy to try an elevated one. Travelled over an hour to get here, so we were hoping the time was worth it. Unfortunately it was not. Firstly EXTREMELY nice staff! Made us feel so welcomed. Had brunch. Sat down, drink orders right away. Then nothing for about 20 min. My wife got a cappuccino and she couldn’t finish it because it was too bitter. Finally ordered. Waited… waited… waited. That is honestly ok if the food tasted nice. This is the biggest issue I had with the restaurant. The food was honestly not good. Pancakes: 2 - Very rubbery, not much flavor. Donut: 5 - soooo good! Bacon Egg Cheese - 3.5 Sausage Egg Cheese - 0 this was inedible because there was soooo much sage in the sausage. Potato Salad - 2.5 - like nothing I’ve ever had before, but overall I would not order again. Strange flavor combinations. I 1000% wanted to love this place and truly do appreciate their attention to detail and quality. But at the end of the day it’s gotta taste good. I would possibly give it another chance in a year, perhaps it could change.

Came at 3:40 and they informed me the kitchen is closed from 4 to 5 and we can’t order lunch but nowhere on google does it say it’s closed from 4 to 5. Just wasted an hour of my time.

Pancakes were amazing and easily the best margarita and Bloody Mary in the Netherlands 🌟 minus one star because the chilaquiles were a bit bland and cold, and the pancakes could have been warmer too. Otherwise fantastic and definitely would go again!

The Diner burger which is only available during Brunch, is perhaps one of the best burgers in Amsterdam. Top1 Patty melt for sure. I was very scared when I ordered the burger, they did not ask for the cooking point of the meat which had me thinking that they would bring me an overcooked burger like usually happens. To my surprise the burger was perfectly cooked, medium rare which made this Patty Melt/Burger and absolute banger. Service was perhaps the only pitty, as waiters forgot about me twice because I was sitting on their small terrace (2 tables). We can all make mistakes, I’m sure it won’t happen next time.

I want to like this place. It has a great menu, etc. However, the day I went there for brunch - I ordered pancakes - not available. Sparkling water, not available. Orange juice, not available. Drip coffee - was served cold. The service was pretty bad - was forgotten about twice. A small bacon egg biscuit is 14 euro. For those kind of prices you'd like a nice experience. Maybe it was an off day.

The only good thing about this place is the interior.. Food is overpriced, and not that good.. 2 pancakes for 14 euros… the drinks arrived 45min after we finished our food..

Only the chicken arrived, it was undercooked without the home made biscuit. Ordered through Uber Eats, the chicken with the homemade biscuit. Even the chicken by itself I couldn’t finish.

An absolute MUST in Amsterdam. Yes, one of the city's best restaurants is American diner. Why? I'll break it down. On the surface, Stacks is one of the chillest, friendliest, tastiest, comfort food spots out there. An incredible menu, vibe, interior, staff--all of it. Miles better than any diner I have been to in the US (IYKYK). But if you look closer, you'll see that Stacks is dead serious about food and hospitality. Every single dish they serve is ultra high quality, and approached with rigor and care. The biscuits, the fried chicken, the buttermilk pancakes might sound simple, but they have a purity and an intensity that's masterful. It's all about taking the American diner to the highest level. And that applies across the board...down to the booths, the menu design, the service, and every last lighting fixture. I can go on and on about what makes Stacks actually the perfect restaurant...but my suggestion is to go and try it out for yourselves.

Five stars across the board!!! Food was amazing - Stacks is true to American diner style but thoughtfully elevated. The menu included many great vegetarian options and delicious cocktails. Also worth a mention that the interior design is beautiful making for a great atmosphere combined with the music and super friendly staff. We loved it so much we had dinner and drinks a few nights during our week long stay in Amsterdam. Highly recommend sitting at the bar or date night at one of the cute two tops!!!

Had a perfect experience at this restaurant. Got seated very quickly, luckily the owner was there too and I had a chat with him and he's a super nice guy. Food and cocktails were fantastic and I had one of the best steaks I've ever had in my life! Would totally recommend to anyone looking for some classic Americana with a modern twist

Ridiculously good food. The fried chicken biscuit lives up to the hype. We ordered a salad and a few ingredients were out of stock, but the kitchen whipped up a gorgeous salad with improvised ingredients. As feedback: pls add more veggie options!! The expectation might have been too high because I had already heard a lot about it from friends, and the reviews are also very good, but I find it all quite overrated. The flavors don’t come together within the dishes, and the meat was rather salty, though that might be a matter of personal taste. I won’t be going back.

Went to check out this new diner with NYC ambiance and southern style cooking. This place did not disappoint. Sure I have a thing for diners and American cuisine, but the food was just down right good. We went for the fish sandwich which had juicy flavored fish and a fresh red cabbage and for the vinegar chicken. The vinegar chicken is so simple but so good. Excellent balance of umami and spice. Drinks were also very good. The sparkling wine was a Prosecco, but was much less sweet than your typical. The margarita was OK (but I’m a pretty strict margarita judge). It could do with a bit sharper bite and less sweetness, in my opinion. Paloma and dirty martini, super! Ended with Amber’s pie, which - again - was very well balanced thanks to the pairing of sour cream/crème fraiche with sweet pie. Will be back soon! Update 2024: I breaks my heart to say this, but I’ve noticed I’ve been going less and less because there have been some small changes. The food is still delicious and very fun. The drinks are also spot on each time. But the vibe has gotten more rushed and the prices have slowly gone up. I understand the need for them to go up, but it removes that one star for price/quality ratio. Sorry!! 😢

After desperately seeking some key lime pie, Google pointed me to Stacks and boy am I glad it did! Went around 1230 on a Friday and had plenty of space. We ordered the biscuits and sausage - one with jam and one with egg and cheese - and it was absolutely delicious. I brought a friend from Texas and she felt right at home with the biscuit which was a great sign. The key lime pie hit the spot as promised, and so did the fresh cinnamon cake donut. It also seemed quite kid friendly - so next time I'm in Amsterdam I'll be sure to bring the little one!

Nice spot for brunch. The prices are a little high for the portion sizes, but overall good quality food. The pancakes with seasonal fruit (blueberries in this case) were fluffy. The egg and cheese biscuit was great and there’s in-house hot sauce on the table that I added for more flavor. The bacon comes more Canadian style than American bacon. The patty melt was rated pretty okay. Our server was super helpful with any additional requests.

This spot is a gem! We were traveling in Amsterdam with our 1.5 year old and popped in here. Super warm staff that leans into American hospitality. Prompt and attentive service with a knowledgeable staff. (The prompt service piece is huge when traveling with a toddler. They also had a box of toys) We are in the restaurant industry and always try to avoid a touristy place when traveling. This spot, is it. The menu is an ode to American culinary classics. Think roast chicken, seasonal vegetables, Biscuits.. it was so good. The space felt neighborhoody and very local. It seemed like everyone knew each other but I think that may have just been the great energy of the space. You can tell a lot of time went into the design and the playlist had a VIBE! I thought I was in Brooklyn. We will be back and hopefully have a baby sitter next time!

I love it, wish it was in my neighborhood because it has that perfect local hang vibe. I’ve been for dinner with friends, date night, brunch and drinks and it’s a perfect spot for all it. I also booked it for a huge work group and they were really accommodating and responsive when it came to fine tuning the set menu. Oh and special shout out to American style pancakes, tasted like home 🥲 Edit: came back to discuss their breakfast sausage. Because I swear it’s the only American style sausage I’ve had on this continent and now they deliver it to my house with egg and cheese….on a biscuit?! What a time to be alive. Open a Stack’s in Paris, please 🙏🏽

As a homesick Texan in the Netherlands, Stacks Diner fulfilled all of my food wishes. Their biscuits are amazing, as good as or better than any I’ve had at home, and the fried chicken is second to none - flavorful and moist with a delicious crackling coating. Fresh donuts and a fun diner setting just seal the deal. If you’re missing southern American food or just want to try the real thing, definitely go give them a try.

One of the best meals I've ever had. Went here for dinner and brunch, and both meals blew me away. Fresh ingredients, wonderful flavors, and fun takes on comfort dishes. The breakfast biscuit, patty melt, caesar salad, and crispy tofu were among my favorite dishes. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, you wont be disappointed!

Beautiful space with friendly service and amazing food! Been here a few times now and their specials change regularly and everything is fresh. My favorites are the grilled Caesar salad and the fried chicken biscuit. I’ve also been for brunch where the donut is a must have!

The food was delicious and it was something different: a real American menu, in an attractive setting that makes you feel a bit like you are sitting in an Edward Hopper painting. The biscuit is like a savory scone; fresh and crunchy. I had the biscuit with cheese and egg and it was tasty in all its simplicity. Potatoes were also very tasty. The key lime pie was sublime: sweet but fresh. I found the dessert with s'mores a little less tasty, which could have used a few more cookies for my taste. Friendly service who gave us an extra side dish on the house because two other items we wanted to order were no longer available (we arrived close to closing time). A successful dinner and we will definitely come back.

The vibe is great with american style diner furnitures. The staf is lovely friendly. The enviroment is clearly a bit more quality than your local diner in America. The menu is compact nothing extend, the drinklist is extend like 2 times the size of the food menu. They focus on their sandwiches. Got the fish sandwhich, the batter is very thin did not really bring much crunch, the fish is nicely prepared but still a bit overdone but plenty of moist. Pity the sandwhich is way too small it is palm size but the fish is big enough handfull. The sauce is lovely but little as it is matched wit hthe amount of sandwhich instead of the fish. The sandwhich is almost like a scone but softer. 2/10 the vinegar half chicken -1/10 Not sure what i need to think of it, the chicken is not dry but still a bit overcooked. The skin is not crispy and hardly getting any grilled flavor. The vinegar is purely the sauce as the chicken do not got any vinegar a flavor. It was difficult to consume as the chicken was cut in half as half the chicken and rest you need ot figure it out. Fried grit perfect to share for 2, as it is seems the first one light and fluffy but it sinks like brink but very lovely done. 2/10 Come for drinks and have small bar bite but not really for full meal. Missing American diner menu.....

Great place! Cosy interior. Delicious food. We went at opening (midday) we had the place to ourselves and the staff were extremely friendly. food was quick and delectable. We ordered the stewed tomatoes on recommendation from the chef - highly recommend!! On a side note, the bathroom experience was lovely. Do yourself a favour and check out this place. 😃👍

Stacks Diner was truly an incredible culinary treat!! The stewed tomatoes, fried chicken sandwich, tofu, crispy Caesar and steak were out of this world!!! The vibe is very chill, the crowd hip and the drinks are perfect! Cannot wait to be back for more!

Spent five days in Amsterdam and Stacks was the best meal by far. Their chicken sandwich is out of this world. Must try!!!!

We have been looking for an American diner experience for a while; we are glad to find this little gem. Eggs with sausage and potatoes plate was quite satisfactory. Buttermilk blueberry pancakes were perfect. We also tried steak and biscuits; all were delicious and well-prepared. What might help them to go a bit extra mile, serving coffee from pot and a kids menu option? Definitely will come back.
