The food is always good here, tasty and served quickly. It's also nice that not everything is so expensive, so you can have lunch for a reasonable price!

Horrible staff! We had to wait almost an hour for lunch (eggs)—not recommended. We asked several times where our food was, but there was no response.

Went out to dinner at this restaurant tonight with a few people. What a disappointment. For example: burnt chicken under a thick layer of tasteless satay sauce. Thick, soggy fries. Nasty fries sauce, no mayonnaise. Everything was lukewarm. The cola was poured into a hot glass that had just come out of the dishwasher. Now, the crème brûlée. For €12.50, a soggy cookie with a sticky substance on it that had absolutely nothing to do with crème brûlée. I could go on and on; my dinner companions had similar experiences with their dishes. The service was friendly. Never again will I go to Stadscafé Blij!!

Good atmosphere, quiet yet accommodating many guests. The conservatory was especially appealing. Someone could perhaps have come a little quicker to take our drinks, but otherwise, the staff were incredibly hospitable and approachable.

The food was very tasty and delicious. The "I Love Holland" show was also a great way to spend some time.

The old town has a lot to offer. Nice stores, quaint buildings and more. Blij (Happy) is located dead center and is the place to be, if you want to take a break and have a drink and/or a bite. Good service, revolving draft beers and a simple, yet nice menu. They also offer nice snacks, in case you wanna grab a bite, instead of a dinner. Don't skip Blij when visiting the town of Zwolle.

Cozy, trendy place with an extensive menu. Delicious food and large portions. But I also like to pop in for a cup of coffee when I'm in town. We had a nice drink after a movie at the cinema this week. 🍷

A city café as a city café should be. A fantastically varied menu, something for everyone. A beautiful and warm interior that immediately gives you a homely feeling. The staff is also incredibly friendly. It's often busy! Absolutely packed! I watch the team in amazement. In short, I recommend Stadscafé Blij to anyone who wants a pleasant meal out without expecting too much luxury.

I had a terrible experience. I was served spoiled food and was lucky I didn't have to pay for it. All in all, a very bad experience. The so-called Manager, Luuk, handled it completely unprofessionally.

Last week I ate here during a first aid training session to round off the day. We ordered a tapas platter. The woman who took our order seemed friendly. It took a while, but finally the platter arrived. The food wasn't very warm, and there wasn't much bread, so I ordered extra. This didn't arrive until the platter was empty. It was a shame, and a missed opportunity. We weren't asked if we wanted anything to drink, which was a missed opportunity. When we finally ordered coffee, I took a sip and found something in my coffee that wasn't supposed to be there. I tried to talk to someone, and after some hesitation, they told me I'd get a new coffee. I was supposed to get a new coffee anyway, right? But unfortunately, it was another missed opportunity because the coffee didn't arrive. The woman behind the bar was busy with other things, so when she realized after a good 15 minutes that I would be getting another coffee, it was too late, and I asked for the bill. I didn't have to pay for the coffee and the extra bread, but I won't be returning! It's a shame, because it looks very nice and the location is beautiful.

We've eaten there several times and, unfortunately, we can say that despite the location, the service hasn't improved much. We ate there two weeks in a row, and the first time, they served a cola without sugar, which isn't listed on the menu. The pepper sauce was forgotten with the main course, and after we asked if we could still get it, it took forever for it to arrive cold. (We even inquired again if it was because they'd forgotten it.) We eventually reported this to another staff member, and they resolved the issue with a complimentary drink, which, however, was included on the receipt when we paid. Last week, we tried again. We had lunch with six people, and unfortunately, the service was poor again. We weren't asked how we liked the food, and after about an hour, we simply asked for our plates to be cleared. We could have easily ordered three times as many drinks. A missed opportunity, Stadscafe Blij..!

What grumpy staff walk around here. They practically smash glasses in your face, their faces filled with disgust for the customer who pays their wages.

The two of us ate there, and it was fine, but when the food arrived, mine still had applesauce in its packaging, which was a bit odd, as the other sauces were neatly tucked away in a bowl. I thought, "It wouldn't be that hard to put the applesauce in a bowl too. It's okay for a child to do that, but an adult can't!" My partner's mixed grill looked good, but you guessed it, my schnitzel was nice and tender, but had a much too hard crust (probably made in the oven) and had been in the oven for too long... not really satisfied!

A friend and I were sitting together on the patio when a stranger struck up a conversation. It started innocently enough as a casual chat, but soon after, an inappropriate remark was made. He said he thought we were "beautiful ladies," but this man was clearly much older than us. Olivia (waitress) picked up on this and immediately came over to ask if we were being bothered and if she could help. Fantastic! It was so nice of her to be so alert and intervene immediately!

Poor service. We sat there for over an hour and weren't welcomed, and we weren't even asked if we enjoyed our meal, if everything was to our liking, or if we'd like another drink. We didn't see anyone. Our order was incorrect.

Upon arrival at 5:00 PM, we were politely helped and were able to choose a table (which didn't say "reserved"). We ordered drinks and food. While we were eating, a sign was placed saying "6:00 PM reserved," which I personally find rather rude (WHILE EATING). We found this odd because we were already seated and felt rushed, thinking we had to leave by 6:00 PM. I told my girlfriend, "We're here, so we'll stay until we're done." (Not our problem.) We finished eating at 5:45 PM, when a young woman around 20 or 25 came over and took away the food (which was gone). "Did it taste good?" "Would you like to order anything else?" "No, absolutely nothing. Why do we have to ask?" Instead of "Is everything to your liking, would you like to order anything else?" no, no one asked. My friend asked if we could order dessert, to which we were told, "No, that's not possible because we've made a reservation." To which I replied, "The plate was put down during our meal?" Her response was to laugh and walk away. I find this so antisocial and rude. It's because my friend said, "Come on, let's get out of here and leave it." Otherwise, I wouldn't have even paid the bill. Secondly, I would have beaten the hell out of that girl. I know nothing will be done about this anymore. But as long as you don't do anything about this, you can expect to be out of business within a few years. Staff like that don't belong (in the hospitality industry) and deserve immediate dismissal.

I had a wonderful time here. Always cozy, and as a vegan, I have plenty of options. I just had the vegan schnitzel with vegan mushroom sauce and fries with vegan mayo, and I loved it! Truly delicious. And a good price!

Ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, a croquette, and fries. My tablemates had their grilled cheese sandwich and croquette much earlier. We waited 26 minutes for the fries. They tasted fine, but waiting for simple fries is a bloody long time.

We had a drink and a snack here one afternoon and lunch the next day. Extensive selection and a very tasty lunch with generously filled sandwiches. The waiters are friendly, but there's something not quite right with the process of preparing and serving the drinks. Both days we had to wait a relatively long time for our drinks, and so did other tables. Even twice, the waitress even came in to check where our drinks were. This is a significant area for improvement, as it costs you revenue. Otherwise, it's excellent!

Great place. Friendly service, but the food isn't good. Plastic cheese on the nachos, no guacamole, but witch's cheese, and then they charge 9 euros... shame.

We received a fantastic welcome and were served by Kayleigh de Lange and Jesse Nijboer. Huge compliments to these two young and talented people for their work. The food and service were AMAZING. We've never experienced such hospitality before.

Ordered two beers on a half-full patio. After fifteen minutes, I asked about the beers: they'd be there later. People next to us arrived at the same time and already had their coffee. After 20 minutes, I asked again: "It's busy." Meanwhile, my neighbors had their food on the table. Canceling the order was difficult; we'd already paid. After half an hour, we left without drinks and eventually got a cash refund. Two beers... Not HAPPY

The service is disappointing. We used to come here a few times a month, but now it's hard to find the right people. It's a shame, because we always loved it!

The food was excellent, but the service was truly disappointing. The staff seemed disinterested and unfriendly. It took a very long time for our order to be taken. When our dishes finally arrived, we weren't given cutlery and had to ask for it several times. We were also never asked if everything was to our liking. In short: unfortunately, not recommended due to the poor service, despite the good food.

It's very comfortable, but the beer was lukewarm. And normally, when it's busy, you have to wait half an hour for help, and then another half hour for your drink. In the hour you wait, they come by five times with a full tray because they've placed the wrong table. Not a happy place, but an angry place...

We sat on the terrace. Perfect for a Friday afternoon. The staff worked their socks off. Fast service, delicious fresh mint tea with honey, comfortable chairs. Good smoothie. Friendly staff. The bitterballen were nice and hot and not greasy. Nothing but positive experiences.

It's called "Blij" (Happy), but I was absolutely not happy there. I used to live in Zwolle and came here regularly, but the hospitality and quality of the past are gone. The staff is grumpy and anything but friendly. They could look away with disgust! The food arrived before the cutlery, and the waiters came by five times without clearing the plates from the previous guests. Apparently, wiping the table was too much trouble – we had to ask for it ourselves. The food itself was deeply disappointing: the salad on the plate turned out to be a pitiful mini-ball of "hussarsalade" (meal rolls, twice) and the double croquette were cold, and even the drinks came with melted ice cubes. In short: a disappointing experience from start to finish. Absolutely not recommended.

Today we ate pastries with our birthday daughter on the patio. Lunch afterward would have been an option if we'd had a better impression of the first order. It took quite a while for our order to arrive... The lemon cake (seasonal special) seemed to have come straight from the freezer. Soggy and wet, no texture. Just not what you'd expect. The decaf cappuccino was lukewarm, almost cold. We reported this, but nothing was done about it. The person who helped us said to report it sooner next time. We weren't happy about this experience. Fortunately, we had lunch elsewhere, which was as expected.

If you'd like to sit among the cheeky pigeons and other birds, you should definitely sit on the terrace. It's no wonder these birds find their way to Blij. The tables are dirty, the menu is sticky, food is scattered all over the floor, and leftovers are left outside. The staff doesn't seem to care. We had to wait a long time for cold coffee. No go!

Terrible food. Ordered the deluxe Nacho with pulled pork. When I got home, my girlfriend immediately felt nauseous and sick. Don't order it!

Happy? This café made me anything but happy. What a disappointment! The staff are unfriendly; they look at you with downright disapproval, especially if you're not from the area! The menu is limited, with the bare minimum for the maximum price! If you really want your guests to be happy, you really need to change this...

The most delicious food I've ever eaten and very good service.

We were shown to a table after customers had paid. The table wasn't cleared immediately, which wasn't too bad. We waited fifteen minutes and were never seen or helped. We were assigned this table, after all. We left after 15 minutes and went to the neighbors, with another customer's table still uncleaned—clean—in front of us.

That chocolate cake is truly fantastic. The happy mother's meatball is too. Great atmosphere, despite the crowd, and a cheerful server.

Had lunch here on a very busy day, but still managed to snag a spot inside. The staff were very friendly. Delicious lunch dishes at a great price. Because we had to wait a bit long for our food (due to the crowd), the friendly waitress apologized and offered us a free drink—perfect!

Our visit was quite disappointing. The mustard soup was too thick and full of mustard seeds. The ham sandwich was cold, and the pulled beef was swimming in grease. We had to wait a long time for our food and drinks, and the staff made little effort to come to us. Afterwards, we both had stomach aches. A shame, because the location is nice.

It took 25 minutes for the nacho platter to arrive. There was even a hair in it. Way too much cheese, and almost all the nachos were in chunks. My wine was warm. When she asked if everything was to her liking... and I told her there was a hair in the food... she said, "It must have come from the kitchen!!!! Well, that's great then. It happens often, I suppose... yuck. I could have just paid full price. That was my last time here for a while!"

A cozy café in a prime location in Zwolle's vibrant city center, where you can also enjoy a tasty snack. Excellent service. Great atmosphere.

A bit of a mixed experience. My friend, who is vegan, had a great place with plenty of options. However, it turned out the allergens on the menu were incorrect!!! Be aware of this if you are lactose intolerant, for example. Another diner unfortunately had to return her steak; it was so dry and tasteless. As compensation, we were offered three drinks, but that wasn't compensation, and my friend simply didn't have a hot meal to eat. Not ideal if you have diabetes. I had the salmon for my starter and main course. Absolutely delicious and highly recommended, definitely deserving of 5 stars! In short, a great location in a beautiful spot with enormous potential to be a successful restaurant. However, some dishes are not tasty and not worth the money, the allergens don't match the descriptions, and the wait for your food and drinks is very long. We did have an exceptionally helpful waitress. Very kind and helpful, even with questions about the dishes. She was clearly upset that things weren't to her liking and regularly checked in to see if everything was okay. Ultimately, the staff can't do anything about it if the kitchen isn't up to par. I don't know if it's recommended, but some things on the menu are really good, like the mustard soup and the chicken fingers (tapas menu). So you can either get lucky or you can't. I'll definitely go back. There's room for improvement, though.

The only thing that was a bit of a shame was that the apple pie was very cold.

The meat was cold. After complaining to the staff, they said... "Yeah, here we go, half of it's already gone." Well, of the mixed grill with 4 pieces of meat, there were only 3.5 left. Even the fries were still warm. The complaint wasn't taken seriously.

Slow service, good quality coffee, tasty apple pie. Only a pity about the weak pile of whipped cream. This adds nothing at all, without whipped cream it would have become a 5 star review.

We were sitting on the terrace relaxing and the service was smooth and friendly despite the crowd. The food was delicious.

What makes this place special is the miniature museum. With a magnifying glass, look at miniature paintings on a matchbox, a razor blade or the wings of an insect. Go see this!

It's ridiculous that you have to wait half an hour, and only when you walk up to an employee yourself and ask why we're not being helped, do you get a response. She comes to our table and says: 'This is not my part, my colleague does that.' 🤦🏻‍♂️ Fifteen minutes later, someone finally came - but only after we waved and shouted. You're happy that you're finally being helped, but after placing my order I had to wait another ten minutes. I was completely fed up with the bad service that makes no sense. In the end I went to Tony's, where the service was great."

Cozy place, friendly staff, and good food. The only thing that really struck us (disadvantageously) was that drinks were hardly refilled. The staff themselves rarely asked for it, and when we asked if they would come back in 1-5 minutes to take the drinks, they only came after half an hour, or not at all.
