Really big portions at a decent price. Will definetly be visiting again!

The food here was super tasty and the portions were huge (I couldn’t even finish mine!). The staff was also really friendly, which I appreciated. A couple of things could be better though. The place feels too crowded, and even though the reservation is for two hours, we were basically rushed out after less than one hour. I was literally finishing my last sip of Cola when someone came over to check if we were “all good,” which felt like a hint to leave. Also, I saw their Instagram post on Friday (Dec 12) about a new menu and lower prices, but when I went on Saturday, nothing had changed. Kind of misleading.

With outdoor covered seating that gave a view of the canal, Staring at Jacob was the perfect setting for a late breakfast. We were politely instructed how to efficiently and order via the barcode on the table and drinks came out promptly. Each plate of food came out as soon as it was ready, which meant although everything didn’t come out at once, it was all fresh, hot, and tasted fantastic.

The food and vibe here is always amazing, I come at least once a month and the quality and dishes are always consistent. Some staff can be very nonchalant so it can take a while to even get a menu, but the food is worth the wait, whether they are busy or not honestly. Mostly positive experience with most of the staff though, would definitely recommend this place!

A great place to start the day off right. Both the food and the service are excellent. Reservations are recommended, as you might arrive and find there are no tables available. We went without a reservation but had a table within minutes. We ordered two dishes: -Jacobs Benny -All Around Carnivore Both were delicious and the portions were generous, which is always appreciated. We also ordered a cappuccino and a latte, both of which were fantastic!

Fab brunch location in the west of Amsterdam. NY style diner and the food was amazing! We had iced lattes, All Round Carnivore breakfast and eggs royale.

It’s my 2nd time here, the first being when it first opened in 2013. This was only the 2nd time my partner have been able to eat out together since our kids have become old enough to all be at school. We arrived with a reservation. The welcome was immediately very frosty, before we had said or done anything that could have merited it. Generally I felt like our presence was an inconvenience to the waiter. I had the Rasco - I think more or less the same thing I had the first visit. The waffles were nice, no complaints about the eggs or coleslaw. The chicken however was dry and without much flavour at all. There was plenty of it but it became a bit of a chore to eat. Three of the pieces were dramatically drier, darker and crispier than the others, which I took to mean that they were refried from an earlier batch. This is all very different to my memory from 12 years before.

Both food and service are great but the open kitchen doesn’t have a good enough extractor hood and all my clothes ended up smelling like grill smoke. My winter jacket stopped smelling terribly only after a few days.

Staring at Jacob is a well-known brunch spot in Amsterdam. It’s located in a more residential area, a bit away from the most “famous” parts of the city, but still in a great location right next to the iconic park. I have to say it was the best brunch I’ve had in Amsterdam in terms of price, quality, and menu options. My girlfriend and I ordered the All Around Carnivore, and it was incredible. I recommend going with an empty stomach because it’s honestly hard to finish the whole plate. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly, the sausage and bacon had the ideal carnivore balance, the potatoes were great, and as if that wasn’t enough, you also get three big pancakes — probably the best pancakes I’ve ever had. Overall, the price is very reasonable for what you get — pretty standard for Amsterdam 🙂. We went on a Monday and even then, I think we wouldn’t have gotten a table without a reservation, so I definitely recommend booking ahead.

Food is tasty but they up-charge for everything - even to have a bloody mary spicy will cost you extra. At the end of the meal, they don’t print out the bill so who knows what all else they charged you for. Be careful!

The service is very bad. There were a lot of empty tables but none of the waiters came to the queue and proposed a table. People were just waiting in line and it wasn’t clear what’s going on for 40 mins. There was a couple who had a reservation but even they didnt know what to do. Can they go in or not? Do they stand in queue. There was no person to talk to the waiting line. Maybe this place has a good food, but the service is really bad. There’s plenty of other good places in Amsterdam

Been meaning to come here due to rave reviews ,i got the chance so had Nashville burger for lunch ,was really filling and tasty and i enjoyed it ,service was great too

This is a remarkable little restaurant that I just happen to find on a whim. I made reservations before going because I saw reviews that said there would be a long wait if you did not have one. Glad I did. The food was amazing! Who knew I would come all the way to Amsterdam and find good fried chicken. The chicken was crispy and seasoned very well. Being from the south in the US, I think I can consider myself an expert on fried chicken; I’ve cooked it and eaten it for many years now. So kudos to Staring at Jacob for a well cooked chicken. It blew my mind. It was one of the best restaurants that I visited during my vacay. So I had the chicken and waffles. The waffles were very thick, dense and very filling; I did not eat all. I enjoyed the scrambled eggs. The service was really great, very friendly staff. Prices were reasonable, especially for the portion sizes.

Such a rude service! We were asked to leave 1h after we arrive because “they need the table”. We even wanted to re order something but couldn’t. Very noisy, heavy food smell inside, food very average and tasteless, we were at a table at the entrance where we kept on having the door opening and closing all the time. Still shocked how I was talked to and treated at this place. Won’t come back for sure.

My favorite place for a brunch in Amsterdam

The chicken and waffles are absolutely delicious, especially if you're really hungry or have a craving for munchies. I would definitely come back.

Salad was good, mango was ripe considering it’s November. I sat outside facing the canal and was not a fan of seeing a member of the kitchen staff come out to smoke 7-8 meters away and smell it. Then two more staffers went to the same place to smoke and discard butts on the ground. I get that it’s common in many countries but it gives an unsanitary vibe. If I lived locally, I would not return. Expect at least 25€ per person.

Food is very well seasoned and big portions. Can confirm that it tasted very much like NYC brunch (with this restaurant having “New York Brunch Bar” in the logo). Got a carnivore breakfast plate. Bacon was crispy, hashbrown had a nice kick to it with spice that tasted like shin-ramen, pancakes tasted very homemade. Came during a weekday around 12pm, no wait and not too crowded inside.

In my previous experience, this seemed better. I had the poached eggs with bacon and potatoes this time, but it's honestly not worth the price (18 euros!). The poached eggs weren't as sublime as they could be, lacking creativity, and the potatoes were too salty. The Rasco (fried chicken and waffles) at the neighbor's place was also a bit disappointing. Then you order a mimoza pitcher for 40 euros, you're there yourself, but you'll be scratching your head. I think this place is mostly hyped, but doesn't really offer the quality you expect. Definitely experience it for yourself.

This is purely a review for the amazing server (with a tattoo of African on his forearm) who came to the rescue of my son and me. The chain fell off my son’s bike as we were cycling. I was not having much luck getting the chain back on the bike. As we pushed the bike past the restaurant the server came out and said he’d heard we were having bike trouble. He proceeded to fix the bike - which ended up being really fiddly and very messy. He was so gracious. Without his kindness I really don’t know what we’d have done if he hadn’t helped us - we were visiting Amsterdam for the weekend and miles from the bike rental shop. A huge thank you from the both of us.

The best brunch in Amsterdam. I’ve tried a variety of dishes, and they’re all amazing. The smoothies, the oats, the pancakes, everything. They’re all great. The All Round Carnivore is my favorite meal and it’s amazing for those wanting a sweet brunch but also have protein and merging breakfast and lunch flavors. Amazing place.

Really super delicious. Service was very fast. We got a quick seat for two on a Friday morning, even without a reservation. Super delicious. Very large portions. :) The only small drawback was that we sat in the back, right next to the kitchen, and had to go to a business meeting afterwards, so we smelled a bit of bacon.

Had a lovely lunch with my sister today. We arrived around 2:30 PM and were told almost immediately that we had arrived at the right time because the crowds had just passed. All in all, very friendly and sociable English-speaking young men who really appreciate humor, as we delved into the name Staring at Jacob. Tip: if you like spicy sauces, ask for the spicy mayo! One piece of food packaging was for the paper bag; we couldn't finish it all!

Friendly chaos with a side of granola Upon arrival, the welcome was warm, so warm in fact, that I was escorted to a table that was apparently scheduled for cleaning... eventually. I had to kindly remind the staff that wiping it down might be a good idea. Then came the waiting game: no menu, no attention, just vibes. I flagged someone down for a menu, and again to place my order. Clearly invisibility is my superpower. Now, credit where it’s due: the granola? A masterpiece. Crunchy, flavorful, possibly made by angels. The chicken, however, was on a flavor vacation. A pinch of seasoning could’ve saved it, but it was bland. The coleslaw followed suit uninspired and forgettable. Paying was another adventure. After several attempts to get someone’s attention, I gave up and walked to the front myself. Honestly, we could’ve left without paying and no one would’ve noticed. In short: come for the granola, stay if you enjoy being ignored. Not exactly a must-visit.

Many options of every type, super cozy and accommodating environment

We've been to this restaurant three times, at different times. During peak season, there's a bit of a wait if you don't make a reservation, but off-season, there's no wait. The welcome is excellent, the staff are kind, pleasant, fast, and cheerful. Let's get to the menu choices. We chose several types of dishes, including the Rasco (which is excellent several times) and the spicy burger, which is super good. However, I find it a shame that most of the time the chicken is spicy; there should be a choice for people who don't like spicy food. The dishes are very, very, very generous. For the price, we paid €50 for two dishes (two Rascos) and two drinks (one Americano, one matcha latte), which may seem expensive, but we didn't eat anything else all day because we enjoyed it so much. (The matcha lacked flavor.) I recommend it.

Food was good but I feel the attitude of some of the staff lets this place down. Many places can make decent or great food but what makes them stand out is service, I feel just the passive attitude amongst some of the staff makes it feel as they are doing customers a favour rather than the other way round! Without customers there is no business! Just fix this up and you’ll strive.

I’ll give it 3/5 stars as I am expecting to have some flavour when I’m trying a dish with avocado and no meat.”Sophisticado”was blunt with a huge amount of a green salad and lack of feta.Suggestion: add feta on the toast and give some flavour to avocado cream! Additionally in the orange juice less ice should be used as the quantity of actual orange juice is less than expected. The highlight of this place is definitely the service and not the food for me.

Good food and nice place to go on a Sunday morning. Staff were a bit slow - our food came before our drinks and we asked twice for them after seeing others who ordered after us get theirs. Food wise, the potatoes were quite salty so couldn’t finish them, however the eggs were cooked perfectly and the chicken was delicious 😋

The food was absolutely wonderful. We tried different dishes, and everything tasted fantastic — very fresh and really delicious. The service was excellent. Then we witnessed something unexpected: a cat fell from the second floor and got injured. Immediately, Alain, who was working at the service desk, rushed out to help. When the cat’s owner didn’t want to take it to the vet, Alain firmly insisted and made sure the cat was brought to the vet right away. Alain not only looks amazing, but is also an incredibly warm-hearted and empathetic person. There should be more people like Alain. Thank you so much, dear Alain, for your dedication and compassion towards animals❤️❤️❤️

I visited this restaurant on a rainy Saturday, and it was the perfect way to start the day. I had brunch with some friends, and the four of us ordered the exact same dish: waffles and fried chicken. Big minds think alike, and in this case, we were totally right! The chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy, and had a special seasoning. The waffles were fresh and slightly sweet, a perfect match for the salty chicken. The scrambled eggs were juicy and flavorful, balancing the plate nicely. I also tried a refreshing coconut drink, which I really recommend. The staff was friendly and gave us helpful recommendations. I definitely recommend this restaurant and especially their fried chicken waffles!

Sehr schöne Location mit leckerem Essen. Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit. Der Kaffee ist grandios. Nach dem Frühstück kann man direkt weiter Richtung Noordmarkt und Oud-West Viertel mit vielen kleinen Läden und Grachten.

Brunch food was very tasty with unique hash browns. Service was good, the waiter very friendly, but although we supposedl needed reservations, there weren’t too many folks in the restaurant which felt a bit somber. The background music didn’t help as it was rap with awful lyrics so personally I’d rate this higher if it wasn’t for that issue alone as music sets the ambience. It’s not that I mind rap, but could’ve done without that type for a supposed relaxing brunch.

Great atmosphere with excellent quality of food. Eggs were scrambled to perfection, chicken was crunchy and still soft and juicy. Service was late but not the worst so.. id definitely be back

The restaurant should be called staring at the waiters, because thats what we did for 40 mins hoping someone would take an order after being told multiple times. Would say something about the food but we left without ordering. Such a shame. Also should add, youll wait at least 10 mins for seating even if you have a reservation.

We had the best brunch at Staring at Jacob! The chicken waffles are to die for! The cherry on top: they are super dog friendly! They won my heart when the waiter got my dog a little jar with treats!

Food and atmosfere were really good! However the service was bit weird: they personnelle was very nice and kind with us, but we got first our food then one of the drinks, and a while after that I already finished my dish we got the second drink. Besides that, the experience was really good: good food, sitting outside and chiling in.

Average food, rude staff: it feels like they're doing you a favor by cooking for you. You can find better in Amsterdam.

Everything here from the service to the food and drinks is amazing. As a local it’s my favorite brunch restaurant in Amsterdam! I always take friends and family visiting, everyone says the same thing! They can’t wait to come back to try other things on the menu!

Excellent restaurant, the food is delicious, there were six of us, and everyone loved it. The prices are appropriate for the dishes, which are quite generous, so it was truly delicious. A bonus, the server was great, very energetic and pleasant, truly perfect (and he was French, so that was nice). The only downside is that the choice is too difficult because all the dishes look so good 😄

We had chicken and waffles, and the chicken sandwich with fries. Both were exceptional. We had booked a table online (only indoor was available). The staff kindly moved us outside when we asked as there were tables free, the outside seating was alot nicer so we appreciated this

This is my favorite eggs benedict in town, i always come back. The bacon is phenomenal, the potatoes are otherworldly, the waffle is impeccable, the chicken is drool inducing; it’s juicy, crunchy and mouthwatering. And last but not least, my favorite (whiskey) homemade lemonade to spice up my sunday. Highly recommend if you want a generously portioned, delicious breakfast/brunch. Staring at jacob all the way.

A reservation is highly encouraged since it does get packed quick. Waitress was extremely nice and food came out quick. Eggs were fluffy as were the pancakes. The bacon was crunchy and salty. The potatoes are crispy and light. If you get the chicken and waffles the waffle is thick and the chicken is flavored perfectly.
