It's such a tiny restaurant that when you walk past it, you don't even notice it. It looks like a bar, but inside, it is: a bar with a few tables for eating. We went here because of the good reviews, and the truth is, the ratings from voters are getting worse every day. A place like this can't possibly appear among the 20 best restaurants in Amsterdam! The food wasn't bad, and the prices were high for a bar. In short, it deserves a two to three!

Love the food and cozy atmosphere at La Maschera! We are locals here so are spoiled that it is in walking distance. The food is always really good and I tend to go for the 4 courses with wine pairings, which is quite reasonably priced compared to other restaurants. The chef picks the dishes but you can say if you don’t like fish or other and they will be very accommodating. My partner is vegetarian and always finds a nice selection on offer, not just the standard cheese ravioli. This time she had an amazing white asparagus dish for an appetizer and then a nice pasta dish. I had a bruschetta dish as the appetizer, and part of the 4 courses meal, but it was interestingly deconstructed. It had crisped bread with lovely olive oil but along with cheese, tomatoes and other veggies. All of the flavors blended so nicely together. The next dish was gnudi made from ricotta and spinach. These were so light and delicious that I could have had more as my main! The secondi was a lamb dish that I enjoyed but I kept wanting more of the gnudi. And finally a semifreddo for dessert, which was perfect with the red dessert wine they served it with. All the wine pairings worked nicely with the different dishes. If you don’t want the chef to surprise you, they have an extensive daily menu that you can choose from but all of the course dishes are also from that menu. You can choose 3, 4 or 5 courses. The portions are a good size so 3 or 4 works for me. I tried the 5 once but it was way too much food. Love going here on special occasions because they are very friendly and the chef likes to joke around as you watch him cook behind the counter. It’s small and intimate so make reservations if you can, although I have been there when walk-ins were welcomed.

De très bons plats typiques italien. Personnel très sympas et à l’écoute ! Et ce sont de vrais pâtes carbonara avec du guanciale !

Me encanta la comida y el ambiente acogedor en La Maschera! Somos lugareños aquí, así que se miman que está a poca distancia. La comida siempre es muy buena y tiendo a ir por los 4 platos con maridaje de vinos, que es bastante razonable en comparación con otros restaurantes. El chef elige los platos, pero se puede decir si no te gusta el pescado u otro y serán muy serviciales. Mi pareja es vegetariana y siempre encuentra una buena selección en oferta, no solo los ravioles de queso estándar. Esta vez ella tenía un increíble plato de espárragos blancos como aperitivo y luego un buen plato de pasta. Tuve un plato de bruschetta como aperitivo, y parte de la comida de 4 platos, pero fue interesantemente deconstruido. Tenía pan crujiente con aceite de oliva encantador pero junto con queso, tomates y otras verduras. Todos los sabores se mezclaron tan bien. El siguiente plato fue gnudi hecho de ricota y espinacas. Estos eran tan ligeros y deliciosos que podría haber tenido más como mi principal! El secondi fue un plato de cordero que disfruté pero seguí queriendo más del gnudi. Y por último un semifreddo de postre, que quedó perfecto con el vino tinto de postre con el que lo sirvieron. Todos los maridajes de vinos funcionaron muy bien con los diferentes platos. Si no quieres que el chef te sorprenda, tienen un extenso menú diario que puedes elegir, pero todos los platos del plato también son de ese menú. Puedes elegir 3 , 4 o 5 platos. Las porciones son de un buen tamaño así que 3 o 4 me funcionan. Probé el 5 una vez, pero era demasiada comida. Me encanta ir aquí en ocasiones especiales porque son muy amables y al chef le gusta bromear mientras lo ves cocinar detrás del mostrador. Es pequeño e íntimo, así que haga reservas si puede, aunque he estado allí cuando caminamos - ins fueron bienvenidos.

So happy we finally made it back. This remains my favorite Italian restaurant in the Jordaan. Fresh, authentic, seasonal Italian food with great wine pairings in a cozy setting. And the service is wonderful too. Really great to hear Italian spoken by everyone working in the restaurant. Catch the amazing asparagus dishes while it is still in season.

Il locale è piccolo ed accogliente con cucina a vista e personale italiano gentilissimo! I piatti che abbiamo assaggiato erano tutti buonissimi. La pasta è fatta in casa, come il pane che ci hanno portato! Abbiamo passato una serata davvero piacevole!

Il locale e’ molto piccolo ma questo e’ il meno, quello che colpisce e’ che e’ fatiscente e sporco. Abbiamo mangiato una bruschetta, una carbonara, una amatriciana, una parmigiana. Devo essere onesto, i piatti erano davvero scadenti sia perche’ non rispecchiano assolutamente le ricette originali che per gusto, oltretutto con tantissimo pepe (forse per disinfettare…). Servizio lasciamo perdere. Mi vergogno da italiano che possano esistere posti di questo tipo, piu’ che ristoratori mi sono sembrati emigrati senza professione. Peccato

Buen menú y carta de vinos. Pequeño, pero acogedor. Personal muy amable. La comida era muy buena. La cocina estaba abierta al restaurante, que me gusta, ya que no hay ningún lugar para el chef para ocultar lo que están haciendo!

It's like being transported to Italy for a moment; it's wonderful! A lovely, cozy restaurant with truly delicious Italian food. I'm amazed at how hard and efficiently they work, while you can relax and enjoy yourself. The homemade bread is highly recommended: absolutely delicious!

It has the vibe of the 'before' on one of those restaurant make-over shows. At a glance, prices look similar to an 'eetcafe' for this neighbourhood, but it is worse value due to small portion sizes and expensive drinks (and the quality at other places is better).

Me and my boyfriend came here and it was amazing! Very cozy atmosphere even tho the place is very small but they have authentic Toscan discese. While the personal was very friendly and had really good advice for the wines.

Most dissapointing ..please save your time and money..The waitress who seated us was rude and food was beyond bad.She was just interested in quickly taking the order and then pushing down a plate of bread to add to the order.Terrible food appetisers were thrown onto the plate with no interest and tasted exactly like that.Dear Waitress please be more truthful about your menu and ingredients so people don’t have to leave their meals and go elsewhere..doesn’t pay to be smart and cunning always 🙏

Other guests walked away. This should have warned us. Bread with oil and butter in advance. Bread was old and then burned in the oven. Sparkling water contained no carbon dioxide.

Très déçue de ce dîner pourtant prometteur. Les avis étaient pourtant très bons, les serveurs charmants, le chef en revanche semble tout droit sortir d’un after. C’est la Bière à la main en râlant qu’il accepte tant bien que mal de venir changer nos pâtes. Un plat de pâtes équivalent à des nouilles chinoises instantanées. Insipides, trop cuites, de la bouillie. Oubliez les aromates et le parmesan, ils ne connaissent pas…. Au final l’addition est un braquage, passez votre chemin!

Think twice before going to this place. I’ve been all over the world, and man, this got to be the most disappointing experience I’ve ever had. Very small portions of food, like 20-50 grams, for a price of 20-30 euro. Are these kids’ portions or what? And nobody from the staff took their sweet time to, at least, tell us beforehand about their portions. It should be written in the menu, at least in Dutch, if not in English. Also, always double check your bill before paying! You might be surprised to find something included in the bill you did not received :) Cheers!

Este restaurante es auténtico italiano dirigido por italianos. Está en el corazón de Jordaan, una parte de lujo de la ciudad con un ambiente fresco. La comida estaba llena de sabor y el vino de acompañamiento recomendado por el personal era una muy buena combinación. Recomiendo reservar con antelación. El restaurante es muy pequeño pero es acogedor.

The Italian parents have a restaurant in Panicale that we visited in the summer. Father proudly talked about his son who had a restaurant in Amsterdam. And father is rightly proud. Delicious Italian with regional products. Nice wines and olive oil. Italian hospitality. Being a bit cramped is just part of the atmosphere the restaurant offers. A piece of Umbria in Amsterdam. ♡

It doesn't look hygienic. It had good reviews on TripAdvisor but was very disappointing. Small portion and there was a caterpillar in the lettuce. Small restaurant with only a few tables but unfortunately not clean at all. And your food no longer tastes good after seeing a dancing caterpillar in your lettuce.

Unforgettable food and experience. Better than in Italy

I returned to La Maschera and, as always, I found the high quality of the dishes, prepared with dedication and passion by chef Luca. We enjoyed homemade pasta, such as tortelli and tortellini, which were simply outstanding. I also highly recommend the fish dishes, in particular the Venetian sardines, which turned out to be truly delicious. Everything was accompanied by an excellent red wine suggested by sommelier Marco. When I return to Amsterdam, it will definitely be a must-see

Characteristic place for Italian cuisine, in a quiet street in the heart of Amsterdam, on the outskirts of the Jordaan district. As a good Emilian from the lowlands, I am attracted by the menu that offers Tortellini Night every Wednesday evening. At the sound of the good Luca's Romagna accent coming from the kitchen, we convince myself and my partner to enter the restaurant, which although small is very very nice and welcoming. Marco & Marco, owners of the restaurant, owners of Momenti Italian Cuisine bistrot a few steps from the mask, welcome us like true Italians making us feel at home. Let's start with an excellent platter of cured meats and cheeses and a starter of amazing Venetian-style sardines (in I will be). Below we decide to do all up three first courses of three types of tortellini: Tortellini in broth, tortellini with Bolognese ragù and tortellini with cream and parmesan. FABULOUS, especially the ones in broth which I had high expectations for. The stuffed pasta is evidently made by hand and with expert hands, beautifully closed and each one different from the other. Finally, for dessert they bring us an eggnog cream and a really good hard cake. The entire dinner accompanied by a bottle from the Buonamico winery. An experience definitely worth repeating, every time I return to Amsterdam I will certainly know where to "stay" at the table. Thanks guys!!

Intimate place with decor that takes us to Italy, wonderful food, truly delicious, beautifully cooked meat, juicy and good and perfect pasta! as an Italian I ate dishes that I had never had the fortune of tasting in Italy, Luca, the chef is fantastic, very good and friendly, he made us feel at home, all the staff are kind and welcoming! If we were to return to Amsterdam it would be our first stop! Honest prices and perfect value for money!

I stumbled upon this restaurant on a recent layover in Amsterdam. The original restaurant I wanted to go to was packed. I was worried when I was the only person in this restaurant but it was still very early. Such a lovely surprise to be surrounded by caring servers and a singing chef who made a delicious eggplant parmigiana and duck ravioli. The portion sizes were generous, presentation was lovely and the meal was delicious. As the restaurant became crowded more locals ventured in and also spoke highly of their experience. A gem!

What a find! In a quiet street is one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. The place is intimate and really cosy. This is not a tourist trap, and you probably cannot make a wrong order. The service was carried out painlessly, with good and proper follow-up along the way. We ate pasta with duck, bolognese, vegetarian ravioli, tiramisu (far from a factory version), chocolate panna cotta and chocolate cake. These were excellent choices, and very well prepared. Here you didn't get watery home-made pasta, but real pasta that gave just the right resistance. Can heartily recommend.

Nuestra camarera Daria no solo era genial en el servicio, sino que también es una personalidad maravillosa dando la bienvenida a los huéspedes y haciéndolos sentir como en casa. Tiramisu era tan bueno que comí 2 porciones completas. Recomendado.

I stumbled upon this restaurant on the second day of visiting this Amsterdam. Since I already had dinner reservations elsewhere, I made it a point to dine there another day. I did just that and the food was phenomenal. I sat across from where Chef Luca was cooking . It was interesting to learn about his experience. I had a dish made with red beans and slow roasted pork for an appetizer and the ravioli with a meat red sauce. some of the best dishes I've ever had. Great flavors. I consider myself an aficionado of tiramisu. That's my go to dessert. Theirs was one of the best I ever had. I would definitely go back the next time I 'm in Amsterdam. La Maschera deserves all the accolades they've won.

Beautiful unpretentious yet complex food. We had the 5 course tasting menu with the wine paring. Service was excellent and the food utterly delicious. Would recommend.

A true corner of Italy here in Amsterdam, good food, kind and friendly service. If you don't want to fall into the trap of Fake Italian restaurants (those run by the Turks, so to speak), "La Maschera" is the right and good choice!!! Prices normal. The owner is friendly and sociable like all the staff... they also offered us bitters. Well done

The food was disappointing. Especially for that price. Not recommended.

The place is very small, consequently the tables are also really small. In my opinion a little too expensive. The two of us, my son and I, had a Tuscan appetizer, a plate of pasta with tomato sauce and a plate of meat ravioli with ragout, sparkling water (free)…€82!!! Now let's face the fact that life is more expensive, but €28 for a cutting board with around 150/200g of cold cuts, 150/200g of pecorino, and I'm exaggerating, seems excessive to me. But the thing that annoyed me was that a basket of homemade bread/focaccia with perhaps 200g of bread cost €4, among other things, we asked for a second basket, and no one warned us that the bread would be placed on account, €8. That is, €8 for bread and you make me eat without a tablecloth on a dirty marble table? I'm sorry but Masterchef ends here for you. Jokes aside, it's all true, but at least the food is good.

The best fish dish I had in a long time. It was the perfect meal for our last night . I didn’t want it to end… great charcuterie board as a starter with fresh Italian cheese and honey and meat cuts. Lovely wine and very friendly staff. Highly recommend this little place :)

La Maschera is a Jordaan gem, I confidently say having eaten there a few times. The dishes have the imprimatur of a quality chef taking the time to add gracenotes to regional Italian specialties, be they Florentine lampredotto or Venetian sardines. All pasta is fresh and handmade, and the ragu is always rich.

A propos de la nourriture très long presque à couper l’appétit… Très Petite quantité mais nous n’avons plus faim à la fin du repas Un peu chère pour ce que c’est… L’entrée soupe de tomate et le plat ricotta épinard délicieux!

Very overpriced. Bottle of wine starts at €40?? Plain pasta dish starts at €20! Bread incl anchovy dip was very bad: dry old bread and very bad butter with anchovy dip. Very disappointing and for €70 per person very overpriced. Not even a starter or desert included. Will not go again and definitely not recommended.

Pedimos mantequilla con anchoas, pero no tenía sabor de anchoa. Los ravioli de carne con trufa estaban bien pero el sabor de la trufa inexistente, los tagliolini a la Amatriciana terribles! el tiramisù estuvo bien.

We had a wonderful dinner here last night. The owner walked us through the specials including a tuscan white wine that was on special. It was fantastic. I had the eggplant parmigiana special. My son had the braised beef and my daughter went vegetarian and had the ravioli. The food was amongst the best italian dishes we've ever had. The service was outstanding. We sat outside and it was perfectly charming.

Heerlijk gegeten bij La Maschera. Bediening gastgericht, en doet goede aanbevelingen. Op een mooie locatie gelegen, in een gezellige buurt. Niet lang hoeven wachten op de gerechten en heeft allemaal erg goed gesmaakt, zeker een aanrader!

Overpriced! 30€ for a mediocre and overcooked pasta. Avoid this tourist trap. The place feels deeply stingy. When we asked for Parmesan the owner gave us a teaspoon full instead of just leaving it with us.

Absolut urbanes Ambiente, wir fühlten uns sofort sehr wohl. Freundliche Ansprache, kein SchickiMicki, Essen top. Faszinierend, was der Koch in seiner Miniküche (direkt hinter der Theke) zaubert. Alles homemade und super schmackhaft. Wir haben das Surprise Menü (kleine Variante) mit Weinbegleitung gewählt und waren begeistert, ebenso vom freundlichen und aufmerksamen Service. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Simpel Italiaans eten voor een zeer hoge prijs. We hadden het 4 gangen menu. Vooraf een plankje matige ham en droge stukjes kaas, een lekkere maar zeer simpele (en goedkoop) primi: pasta met roomsaus en worst, redelijke konijnrollade met twee aardappelen en een oké tiramisu. Wijnen pasten niet bij het eten. Service was helaas matig. Maken geen contact, zijn erg snel en lijken je vooral snel te willen inruilen voor een nieuwe volle tafel. Al met al: vooral erg overpriced. Simpel en zeer gemiddeld Italiaans eten, helemaal niet passend in het hogere segment waarin ze zich laten betalen. Helaas!
