We've been coming here for 40 years. De Piraat was always iconic and a welcoming place with friendly service. Little remains of that. We were served by a rude, curt, unfriendly gentleman with no understanding of how to interact with customers in the hospitality industry. He was also rushed, even though it was very quiet. We experienced this again this summer. However, at the bar, we were helped very kindly by a young woman with a chat and a friendly smile; she understood.

A very nice beach pavilion right at the entrance to the parking lot in Oostkapelle. Fast service, large selection of food and drinks.

We visited for the first time in many years. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The terrace was closed despite the glorious sunshine (unlike neighboring beach restaurants, which we unfortunately only discovered too late). The service was rather disinterested. You place your order via QR code, and it's then brought to your table listlessly, incompletely, and without cutlery. The kibbeling (battered fish) was dripping with grease after we bit into it. The fries weren't salted. The poffertjes (mini pancakes) were also very greasy. The supposedly "homemade lemonade," in my case lemon, was definitely not made with fresh lime or lemon. It was 100% mineral water made with cheap concentrate. That's unacceptable. What a shame... We won't be back on our next visit to Oostkapelle.

Beautiful location right on the beach. However, the location is ruthlessly exploited... a portion of mussels with fries for a mere €30! We had a long wait for our food, even though the restaurant wasn't full.

The Piraat is located right on the most beautiful beach on the North Sea coast ;-) It has that classic beach bar vibe. It gets very crowded in the summer and when the weather is nice. You can see a fantastic sunset. The food and service are decent. Interestingly, there's a webcam so you can watch the beach all year round.

Delicious croquette sandwich with a cappuccino. It was busy inside, but we managed to get a seat right away. View of the sea with a group of horsemen galloping past. Excellent and perfectly fine.

Unfortunately, the quality has noticeably declined in recent years. The food seems like simple frozen meals, but the prices are quite high. It's a shame, because the location could really be improved – and apparently, that's how it's going.

The first establishment on the beach used to be truly special—great location, good food, and a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, it's getting more expensive every year, and in my opinion, the value for money hasn't been there for a long time. The service staff sometimes seems hard-working, sometimes simply disinterested. It's a shame, because the ambiance right by the sea remains beautiful. Fortunately, there are several alternatives nearby on the beach that are even more authentic and reasonably priced.

Everything was tasteless! Some of the staff were very unmotivated, even though the place was full. Food was "slapped" onto plates - not nicely presented. Best of all - don't forget the dog rules... Once and never again!!!

Kibbeling is not fresh and tough

Right on the most beautiful beach in the Netherlands. Fast food for everyone.

The setting is beautiful. Coming from France, the service ends early, even during the holidays. We left on an empty stomach, unfortunately. Drinks are a little more expensive than 5 minutes away.

Typical beach pavilion. Food is okay. Price-performance ratio is okay. But everything is quite slow. The takeaway counter right at the front is good and fast.

The food was mediocre, and by the end of the day, way too expensive. Things have deteriorated considerably over the years. I'd take the 5 minutes and walk to the nearest chip shop in the parking lot.

The price-quality ratio is off. The food is simple and bland, and the desserts aren't homemade. There are many better options nearby. The staff, however, are very friendly and attentive!

Eating bad dry bread at least two days old, fried eggs cold and burnt

We've stayed at several beach pavilions in the Netherlands. This is by far the worst in terms of ambiance. It feels more like a cafeteria than a cozy pavilion. The food was okay, although the frikandel didn't come with napkins. Our son ate a frikandel that was simply handed out in a paper bag. So, it's absolutely unsuitable for a relaxing stay.

Nice place if you want to eat or drink something. If you left you sand plays at home, no problem youll get a new one there.

Our favorite beach! Plenty of restrooms. Sunbeds, umbrellas, and windbreaks are available for rent.

We've been here several times, but this time we were very disappointed. The service was very poor, lackluster, and unfriendly. We even had to fetch the high chair for the baby ourselves. It wasn't very busy at the time, and the staff were often standing around playing on their phones. Cutlery and plates for the older child were only brought upon request. Overall, the food was more like a snack bar—the value for money is absolutely not there. We won't be eating there again.

What a beautiful location! And easily accessible for wheelchair users, who can be dropped off right outside. Plenty of space, friendly service. QR codes are on the tables for quick and easy ordering, but before you even know it, someone is at your table to take your order, even though it was quite busy. We ordered via QR code for the second round, and almost before we even hit "send," our order was ready. Hats off! The bitterballen (Dutch meatballs) were excellent, with a cozy Dutch flag inside. We'll definitely be back!

Delicious food, it wasn't super busy but it wasn't hard to find someone in terms of staff if you had questions but they did have a lot of trouble getting to you. The staff was far from motivated except for 1 person and we had the fish and chips but it tasted very cheap. I hope we had a bad moment because I hope it doesn't always go like this.

Too bad, that wasn't possible, with one exception. We were looking forward to a nice steak and were happy to drive a good distance for it. Unfortunately, there was no way to get a steak; it would have been too warm... Yeah, right 😉 But they were still on the menu. So, just chip shop stuff again at a high price. The service staff was attentive. We ordered hamburgers as a substitute, but they were poorly made, and the burger bun came with an old roll, which was a real bummer. The sea bass wasn't worth the 30 euros either. I made an exception for the mussels, which were good and plentiful. We'll see. It was better a year ago, maybe we'll come again.

What a great experience. Beach accessible for wheelchairs. Can drop off the person at the beach by car. Then park the car back in the parking lot. There is even a beach wheelchair available. Helpful staff. Sweet and thoughtful. Delicious food and drinks. A day to never forget.

Extremely unfriendly staff. Dirty, and the staff show no desire to clean tables or clear empty glasses. The only thing impressive is the sea view. Wouldn't survive at any other location.

Prices have risen significantly, while portions have become smaller. The Piraat was always an absolute highlight on our countless vacations in Oostkapelle. It's still beautifully located, but the value for money for food and drinks has unfortunately gotten a bit out of hand. At least the great music still plays at sunset ❤️

Ridiculously unfriendly, never again you are looked at because you don't eat anything

We've been vacationing in Oostkapelle for decades, and visits to Piraat were always an absolute highlight. The atmosphere was incredibly cozy, the food was expensive but top-notch, and the service was fantastic. That's no longer the case. Prices have increased significantly, and portion sizes have decreased. For example, the pots of boiled mussels are now almost half the size despite the higher prices. The side salads consist of ready-made ingredients. Service is mainly provided by unskilled temporary workers. We'll now go elsewhere for food and drinks. It's a real shame that our beloved Piraat has become this way. Incidentally, they used to play special music at sunset, and there was an old pinball machine in the corner. Wonderful. Perhaps it would be a good idea not only to raise the prices, but also to do something for the atmosphere. Piraat deserves it.

Great view, but unfortunately, very poor service. The waiter was annoyed and rude. We've been coming to the Piraten regularly for 30 years. Unfortunately, the prices are extremely high, and the overall experience is no longer up to scratch. After a brief discussion, we canceled all our meals and just had a few drinks. It's a shame, but we won't be going again.

The food was fine. The service was not friendly. Moreover, we were not asked whether the food was tasty. A huge turn-off for me.

Beautiful pavilion with friendly service on the very beautiful beach. Food was ok, but the price/performance ratio wasn't right in my opinion. Tuna Baguette for 12€ and Strammer Max for 14€, I would have expected more despite the “beach allowance”. Other pavilions can do this better.

When you come in, the first thing you notice is the large stall selling beach toys. Afterwards, the interior seemed like a ski lodge to me. Lots of softwood. The terrace had the best sunset, without the usual wind. They are trying to streamline the service with a special ordering WiFi, but that wasn't a problem yesterday because of the low number of guests. There was enough staff, even if they couldn't provide any information about the menu... The menu didn't really appeal to us, so we just ordered drinks and a portion of fries. The cocktail (Passion Fruit Mojito) was out of this world (bad), the beer (Heineken) isn't exactly local either. Ketchup and mayonnaise were put directly on the fries, so that, firstly, some of the fries were soggy and secondly, it was difficult to dose them. I prefer the sauces separately...

Nice location on the beach. Plenty of opportunity to sit inside or outside. Dogs are allowed provided they do not bark and are on a short leash. Wide choice of snacks and drinks. A bit pricey, but that is the case with all "beach bars".

Nice beach restaurant right on the sandy beach, just a few meters from the sea at high tide! Good, diverse range of food! Quality very good! Service OK and friendly! From the paid parking lot you can walk through a nature reserve to the restaurant in about 8 minutes! Beautiful glass-enclosed serviced terrace with a lockable roof! Very child friendly!

Unfortunately the white wine was served warm. After I pointed this out to the waitress, she walked away with the glass, which she had completely touched on the way to check the temperature. When she came back she said the fridge was fine and offered ice cubes. She took the glass to the counter again and filled it with an ice cube. The ice cube melted in 3 minutes, that's about cold wine. The beetroot carpaccio is one of the worst meals I have eaten in Holland. There were 7!!! small slices of beetroot, 11 mini-mini balls of sheep's cheese and 9 leaves of ruccola on the plate, oh I forgot the 5 splashes of olive oil -> 12 €!!! Seriously??? Thank you, but we will NOT be coming back!!!

Very good welcome, very good exceptional situations

Nice to have been here often. Now for a quick stop after a walk on the beach. You can order via a QR code or directly from the very friendly service. Drinks and snacks were brought quickly. The view is of course great. There are also blankets available outside if you need them.

Just had dinner here. Besides the prices being ridiculous, there is also little atmosphere. We spent 36.20 for nachos, bread with spreads and water x 2. If you spent 14 euros for bread with spreads, you expect a little more than a simple baked sandwich with standard dips. If it is that little and you ask for some extra sauce, 1.70 will be charged for some extra aoili. Ridiculous! Not worth repeating for us.

The New Year's Eve menu looked very promising on paper and was completely OK in terms of price. However, the fish version was already cold when it was served. We couldn't really enjoy the supposed beef fillet. We were not charged for the wine as compensation. Otherwise, the service and atmosphere in the restaurant was great. The location by the sea is fantastic.

Two out of five stars, one for the great ambience. That was it then. Hearing guests at the next table complaining about the food, we had already ordered. Large fries with kibble. The fries smelled like cheap frying fat and tasted like they had been warmed up. We left them there. The kibbeling, convenience. It's a shame about the beautiful surroundings, we won't be coming back.

We were lucky that we were able to reserve two seats for Friday evening in the early afternoon, as the restaurant was almost fully booked that evening. On the one hand we had mussels with fries and hamburgers with fries. Both dishes were delicious and can be recommended.

Unfortunately we had to wait a very long time (at least 45 minutes) for our food (finger food). It wasn't particularly crowded either. The service wasn't really personal or particularly nice.

Eating at a beach restaurant is of course particularly nice, just because of the view! The service was very quick and friendly, the menu was balanced and tasty. It just lacks a bit of coziness, has more of the ambience of a canteen, but that doesn't stop me from going back!

Nice beach pavilion, also with takeaway in summer, in the low season 'only' with consumption on site. The service is quick, the quality of the food is absolutely fine and the portions are quite large. The terrace is very sheltered from the wind, so you can sit outside even in rough weather.

Very good Service, very good Steak. Niveau location at the beach from Oostkapelle.

We were 7 people and the terrace was half empty. We had moved a table a bit so that we could all eat together. The overzealous recorder was not pleased with this and ordered us to sit elsewhere. We politely asked if he would show us another spot on the half-empty terrace. He wanted to put us at two small bistro tables that apparently could be moved. With 7 people it was too tight, but the man was relentless. Disappointed, we went to a beach tent where we were allowed to add a table without any problems.
