We wanted to have a drink there today and were sitting on the outdoor terrace so my wife could smoke while she had her coffee. Unfortunately, this was forbidden, even though it was outside. When we asked why, the owner replied that since it was outside, he had decided it was no longer acceptable in this day and age. We left, and the owner provocatively walked 30 cm behind me. Even after several requests to keep his distance, he wouldn't budge, not even on the beach. Outside the door, another woman was standing with her coffee in her hand, smoking like a dog. I find this discriminatory, even though I'm a non-smoker myself. I wouldn't subject my wife to that—smoking like a dog outside with an overpriced coffee from inside. Absolutely not recommended.

It's a shame that fries are the only option with the dishes. Potatoes could also be offered fried instead of fried. That would go well with most dishes. 😉

We only had a coffee there. It was okay.

Smooth and friendly service. The food arrived quickly after ordering. When we saw that a spot became available against the glass on the terrace, it was no problem at all, even though we had already ordered. Very nice terrace that is sheltered from the wind right against the glass.

The fries were great. The "homemade lemonade" is more like syrup with a slice of lemon or a piece of passion fruit.

Nice, beautiful beach bar with sweet and helpful staff. However, the kibbeling was tasteless and looked more like chicken nuggets.. Disappointing for a beach pavilion. I come from the north and there the kibbeling is really fresh and doesn't look anything like a chicken nugget. Quite a waste of money. Otherwise, the ambiance is top-notch, so maybe nice for a drink or something.

Service on the terrace was so-so. Rather unfriendly. Three portions of fries with four small soft drinks cost around €50 (!!!). The price-performance ratio is unfortunately no longer acceptable.

They used to offer fries and snacks to go. Now they only have ice cream and coffee. The restaurant is very nice and the food is good value for money.

The staff were exceptionally friendly! When there was a misunderstanding with the food order, they immediately offered to send the ordered item back free of charge and exchange it for the desired dish. The food was good but expensive, but it also came in quite large portions. So it's easy to share.

A lovely spot to end a day at the beach. The service was incredibly friendly and the place was very well organized. The food was perfectly fine for a beach bar. We enjoyed ourselves and would gladly come back.

Went there again today after a long time and were unfortunately a bit disappointed. The price/performance ratio is no longer right. We had a frikandella that was overcooked, the fries were small and tasted okay, but there weren't enough of them. The bitterballen were very good. I also had a piña colada, which was a real disappointment 😞 hardly any alcohol, tasted like milk with a hint of coconut and pineapple. Sorry, but we made a special detour before heading home and were now disappointed.

A lovely place by the sea with a nice atmosphere. The waitresses were friendly and attentive, and the soup was served in a creative and interesting way. You can choose to sit either on the terrace or inside the restaurant. A great place to relax and enjoy a tasty meal.

Had fries with a portion of bitterballen at Piet Piraat. Not tasty! You could taste that the frying oil was old. The bitterballen were fried to a very dark brown, glistened with grease, and the filling had leaked out, leaving you with an empty shell.

The deep fryer with Van Dobben bitterballen is clearly burnt. Grease and glasses are dripping off it.

Had a pretty good meal for a reasonable price. The service did its job.

I really wanted to get something to eat or drink here as a wheelchair user... but unfortunately, we didn't get any further than the path from the Randduin and/or De Vier Hoogten car park... Every website I visited stated that dogs are allowed at the hospitality establishments... but reality said something completely different (dogs are prohibited, even on a leash and even guide dogs). So we turned around and drove elsewhere where dogs were allowed at hospitality venues. There was a dog beach available, but as a wheelchair user, I couldn't get onto it (or access was very limited via wooden planks that you almost had to search for in the sand and were barely wide enough for one wheelchair).

High prices for relatively large/small portions. Service could be improved. Excellent location.

We always enjoy going to the Pirate. The food and drinks are delicious, and of course, the view is included in the price. The service is usually friendly, though they occasionally forget to take away empty glasses, even when full ones are brought back. A minor complaint, really 😉 Recently, they've added sun loungers outside the restaurant, which are free if you order something – a great perk! Unfortunately, we've recently observed teenagers smoking and acting like they're the biggest kids in the house, especially in the evenings, while the group of five only consumes one beer. The owner really needs to address this. We'll definitely be back.

Worthless... no more takeaway options. Whereas previously you could buy some fries and snacks until 5:00 PM (which was already very early to close, in my opinion) to enjoy on the beach. Now you can't buy any food at all to take away or eat on the beach. You can, however, take a seat on their beach terrace. You can order it there and (obligatorily!) eat it there. While the rest of your stuff is left unattended on the beach?! Worthless...

A very nice restaurant where I have been coming since childhood. Now that I come with my own family, our big disappointment this year was that there is no longer a takeaway fry stand; it is only possible to eat in the restaurant. Surely it should be possible for people who just want to sit on the beach and eat their tasty fries there; children getting a croquette or ice cream themselves is quite an experience, and that is what makes the beach (De Piraat) so much fun! For me, it is a really big disappointment this year. Living in Switzerland, it was a reason for me and my family to come to this beach, year after year! I hope this will be made possible again!

A great location with the most beautiful sunsets. We were there with an adventurous toddler, so it wasn't quite as relaxing for everyone. The Chocomel was a bit too sweet, and the cream wasn't quite as firm as at De Jonge Johannes (also recommended for families with children ;) ). Therefore, one star deducted, as it really felt like a sugar rush. (And I'm all for sugar cane instead of artificial sweeteners.) (Unfortunately, it's now in many drinks in the Netherlands.) We also had a delicious piece of apple pie with cinnamon and cream :) Delicious. According to other reviews, the rest of the food is also recommended. We'll try it again when our toddler's adventurous phase subsides a bit. Well, there were no incidents with the staff, and everything we touched remained intact. Thank you for the quick service with ordering, receiving, and paying the bill. It was a brief, heavenly moment, even with a toddler. We still felt welcome, perhaps because we were able to sit near the entrance. Thank you very much. ... Well, maybe it's because the playground is right outside the window :) Definitely recommended for slightly older children, as they can run around and play. There's a public restroom with several steps (free and clean), as well as a shower for rinsing off the sand on the beach. Paper bags for collecting seashells are available. There's also a free parking lot (Oostkapelle Beach) with a public restroom, easily accessible on foot (although the slope to the beach is manageable for children aged 4 and up). From 7 pm onwards, dogs and kites (including the house kite) are allowed on the beach, perfect for capturing fun and relaxed family photos against a beautiful backdrop. Thank you for the friendly service and the welcoming atmosphere. You always get this feeling when traveling with children in the Netherlands :)

We have been happy guests at Piraat in Oostkapelle for over 30 years, even though in the past, due to new construction and changes in ownership, not only the atmosphere suffered but also the selection and quality of the food declined significantly. Today's visit, in addition to the shortcomings of the food (spare ribs), revealed a blatant lack of customer service. We ourselves had already noticed a significant decline in friendliness towards guests on occasion... today, despite having plenty of space, dozens of guests were turned away, and reserved tables were not released for other guests even after the reservation time had expired (over an hour). Other guests were forced to eat their food balancing on their knees. All in all, a poor experience. Furthermore, and as an additional problem, the sale of food at the takeaway counter at the front of Piraat has been discontinued this year... no more 'fries to go' at Piraat. Great fish & chips, also when it comes to non alcoholic beers there's actual choice which is nice and thoughtful. Service is very kind and at no point, despite it being fairly packed, it felt like I had to wait for it. Also great location right at the coast.

Extremely unfriendly and arrogant service. Despite having a reservation, we were turned away because our group (17 people) was too large for the staff.

The ambiance was great, but the head waiter came across as very arrogant. The rest of the staff were absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, the problem started at the top, so 4 stars are justified; without the head waiter, we'd gladly give it 5.

We've been coming here for 40 years. De Piraat was always iconic and a welcoming place with friendly service. Little remains of that. We were served by a rude, curt, unfriendly gentleman with no understanding of how to interact with customers in the hospitality industry. He was also rushed, even though it was very quiet. We experienced this again this summer. However, at the bar, we were helped very kindly by a young woman with a chat and a friendly smile; she understood.

We visited for the first time in many years. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The terrace was closed despite the glorious sunshine (unlike neighboring beach restaurants, which we unfortunately only discovered too late). The service was rather disinterested. You place your order via QR code, and it's then brought to your table listlessly, incompletely, and without cutlery. The kibbeling (battered fish) was dripping with grease after we bit into it. The fries weren't salted. The poffertjes (mini pancakes) were also very greasy. The supposedly "homemade lemonade," in my case lemon, was definitely not made with fresh lime or lemon. It was 100% mineral water made with cheap concentrate. That's unacceptable. What a shame... We won't be back on our next visit to Oostkapelle.

Beautiful location right on the beach. However, the location is ruthlessly exploited... a portion of mussels with fries for a mere €30! We had a long wait for our food, even though the restaurant wasn't full.

The Piraat is located right on the most beautiful beach on the North Sea coast ;-) It has that classic beach bar vibe. It gets very crowded in the summer and when the weather is nice. You can see a fantastic sunset. The food and service are decent. Interestingly, there's a webcam so you can watch the beach all year round.

Delicious croquette sandwich with a cappuccino. It was busy inside, but we managed to get a seat right away. View of the sea with a group of horsemen galloping past. Excellent and perfectly fine.

Unfortunately, the quality has noticeably declined in recent years. The food seems like simple frozen meals, but the prices are quite high. It's a shame, because the location could really be improved – and apparently, that's how it's going.

The first establishment on the beach used to be truly special—great location, good food, and a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, it's getting more expensive every year, and in my opinion, the value for money hasn't been there for a long time. The service staff sometimes seems hard-working, sometimes simply disinterested. It's a shame, because the ambiance right by the sea remains beautiful. Fortunately, there are several alternatives nearby on the beach that are even more authentic and reasonably priced.

Everything was tasteless! Some of the staff were very unmotivated, even though the place was full. Food was "slapped" onto plates - not nicely presented. Best of all - don't forget the dog rules... Once and never again!!!

The setting is beautiful. Coming from France, the service ends early, even during the holidays. We left on an empty stomach, unfortunately. Drinks are a little more expensive than 5 minutes away.

The food was mediocre, and by the end of the day, way too expensive. Things have deteriorated considerably over the years. I'd take the 5 minutes and walk to the nearest chip shop in the parking lot.

We've stayed at several beach pavilions in the Netherlands. This is by far the worst in terms of ambiance. It feels more like a cafeteria than a cozy pavilion. The food was okay, although the frikandel didn't come with napkins. Our son ate a frikandel that was simply handed out in a paper bag. So, it's absolutely unsuitable for a relaxing stay.

We've been here several times, but this time we were very disappointed. The service was very poor, lackluster, and unfriendly. We even had to fetch the high chair for the baby ourselves. It wasn't very busy at the time, and the staff were often standing around playing on their phones. Cutlery and plates for the older child were only brought upon request. Overall, the food was more like a snack bar—the value for money is absolutely not there. We won't be eating there again.

What a beautiful location! And easily accessible for wheelchair users, who can be dropped off right outside. Plenty of space, friendly service. QR codes are on the tables for quick and easy ordering, but before you even know it, someone is at your table to take your order, even though it was quite busy. We ordered via QR code for the second round, and almost before we even hit "send," our order was ready. Hats off! The bitterballen (Dutch meatballs) were excellent, with a cozy Dutch flag inside. We'll definitely be back!

Delicious food, it wasn't super busy but it wasn't hard to find someone in terms of staff if you had questions but they did have a lot of trouble getting to you. The staff was far from motivated except for 1 person and we had the fish and chips but it tasted very cheap. I hope we had a bad moment because I hope it doesn't always go like this.

Great selection of snacks and drinks

Too bad, that wasn't possible, with one exception. We were looking forward to a nice steak and were happy to drive a good distance for it. Unfortunately, there was no way to get a steak; it would have been too warm... Yeah, right 😉 But they were still on the menu. So, just chip shop stuff again at a high price. The service staff was attentive. We ordered hamburgers as a substitute, but they were poorly made, and the burger bun came with an old roll, which was a real bummer. The sea bass wasn't worth the 30 euros either. I made an exception for the mussels, which were good and plentiful. We'll see. It was better a year ago, maybe we'll come again.
