This Japanese restaurant didn't live up to my expectations. The sushi was very average, if not subpar. I expected better food.

Nice and cozy/warm place. The food is tasty, but they don't really explain what they are serving, which I found a shame. The staff were all very nice though. You get 2 hours to eat here. 5 dishes per round with a maximum of 8 rounds. Large and good portions, so if you go home hungry, you have only yourself to blame 😂 Otherwise, definitely a good place!

The all you can eat is very reasonable for sushi place. Not as much choice as the evening menu in the afternoon but .lore than enough to be stuffed. You get to order 5 items pp for 10 rounds. Me and my wife died on round 6!

Very good restaurant, on the beach in Scheveningen.

Normally, we have always been satisfied, which is why it is especially disappointing that it was such a letdown this time. First, we were completely forgotten for over 20 minutes. Then, it turned out that the wrong menu had been selected on the tablet. Next, it took another 22 minutes before we finally received our first drink. In the meantime, we walked up to the table ourselves four times to ask what was going on. As if that wasn't enough, the tablet suddenly jumped back to the old menu, which ultimately resulted in extra charges. That is, of course, unacceptable. Halfway through, we politely indicated that we were going outside for a moment, and that was not a problem. However, upon our return, our table had already been cleared, even though we were not yet finished. Moreover, there was a large soy sauce stain on the chair. We have been here often and have actually never had anything to complain about. That is precisely why this evening was such a disappointment. Instead of a pleasant and relaxed evening, it was mostly waiting, chasing after things, and frustration. Hopefully, this was a one-time mistake, because this does not fit at all with the experiences we have had here previously.

Had a delicious meal and fantastic service! We visited here for the first time for our daughter's 2nd birthday, and it was an instant hit! Because it was our first time, we received a clear and polite explanation of how everything works. What a wonderful experience: we received incredibly nice compliments and congratulations from the staff because of our birthday girl's cheerful party hats! Pros: * Food: Tasty, fresh, and an incredible amount of choice in everything. The sushi portions are nice and big and very extensive! And not to forget: our toddler devoured the ice cream. * Hygiene: The restaurant was wonderfully clean. Staff came by very regularly to clear empty plates, and the toilets were also spotlessly clean. * Atmosphere: We were there at 4:00 PM and it was still nice and quiet. The employees were all very nice, and all the other guests were friendly towards each other. Tips for the restaurant: * It would be nice if there was air conditioning. A small play area for the kids would make it complete!

He was very alert (when something went wrong), very friendly, and service-oriented! Top notch!

We are regulars at this restaurant, and today we ordered our favorite dish to take away. Unfortunately, it wasn't as tasty as before. The rice was very dry and not crumbly; the same goes for the noodles. I am writing this review to improve the quality of the dishes.

For two people, €103, and the food was an absolute disaster for that price. We know Sumo from Germany as having good quality, but here they seem to be relying on the name and day tourists. The food was a 3 out of 10 and absolutely insufficient for €100.

It would also be great if the staff looked at customers' tables more often rather than just walking past.

It was boiling hot inside. I really felt sorry for the staff. Maybe they should get air conditioning after all. It would make the food taste better for the customers too. The food was really delicious! In that respect, it is highly recommended!

We booked a table online for the lunch and got seated in a nice table in the corner of the room with view for place where they we're cutting the fish. We got some cocktails that were nice and the food was also really good. The Sashimi Salad looked really nice on the menu but when it arrived to the table it was a bit disappointing, the quantity of fish was really small and thin, looking nothing like the picture. Other than that, the food was really nice and true to the pictures. The environment was really chill, the restaurant was not full at all. The waiters were amazing and really friendly.

I dined at Somo Sushi last week and I am extremely satisfied with the entire experience. From the moment we entered, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy, modern, and relaxed, making you feel immediately at ease. The food was truly excellent. The sushi was freshly prepared, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The salmon nigiri, crispy rolls, and special rolls, in particular, were highly recommended. You can immediately taste that they work with fresh, high-quality ingredients. In addition to the sushi, we also tried various hot dishes, such as the gyoza, yakitori, and tempura shrimp. Everything was served quickly and prepared perfectly. What I also really appreciated was the friendly and attentive service. Despite it being quite busy, the staff remained helpful and professional. Empty plates were cleared quickly and orders were processed smoothly. The value for money is also excellent. For the quality of the food, the wide selection on the menu, and the good service, you definitely get your money's worth. This is without a doubt one of the better sushi restaurants I have eaten at recently. I will definitely be coming back here more often and can wholeheartedly recommend Somo Sushi to anyone who loves fresh sushi, flavorful dishes, and good service. A wonderful culinary experience from start to finish!

We visited this restaurant for an all-you-can-eat sushi dinner. The food itself was good: tasty, varied, and exactly what you would expect from this type of restaurant. If I were reviewing only the food, I would have been satisfied. The problem was the service and, more importantly, the handling of dietary restrictions. My wife has to eat strictly gluten-free, while I ordered normally through the tablet. For her, a separate paper menu was used where gluten-free options were marked by hand by the staff. Unfortunately, mistakes were made here, and our waiter admitted he had filled it in too quickly. This already made us feel like we had to double-check everything ourselves. The whole ordering and serving process was also very confusing. Plates arrived slowly and often seemed mixed up, and it was never clear which dishes were the gluten-free versions and which were the regular ones. The staff rarely explained anything when serving dishes, and only after about 20 minutes did someone briefly explain how to tell the difference. Even after that, it was inconsistent. The most concerning moment was when we were served a dish that had been confirmed as gluten-free, but it arrived with sauce and fried onions containing gluten. It was taken back, and about 10 minutes later the same plate returned with the sauce clearly wiped off rather than remade. That is simply not an acceptable or safe way to handle allergens. To their credit, they gave us a 10% discount on the food and did not charge us for our drinks. However, that does not change the fact that the experience felt unsafe and stressful. We spent the entire meal on edge, constantly checking whether the food was safe to eat instead of enjoying our evening. This restaurant could be fine for guests without dietary restrictions, but if you advertise gluten-free options, allergen safety and clear communication need to be taken much more seriously.

It might be a feeling, but I used to think eating at Sumo had a bit more to it.

The food was spoiled. Several people in our party got sick during the night and had to visit the emergency room! When I called the restaurant to report this, they laughed it off and I wasn't really taken seriously.

I've been to Sushi Sumo multiple times in different places and the quality is usually good for the price you pay. But this place had really bad sushi, even the fried food they offer had no taste. No taste, low-quality fish and overpriced drinks. It's a tourist hotspot and people seem to not come here twice which is why the concept works. I'd go and spend the 100 euro for two people you pay here in a nice beach club close by.

Very Good, fresh and not costly all you can eat restaurant

We didn't have a reservation and wanted to sit somewhere else; this wasn't a problem, and we were helped in a friendly manner. Premium is highly recommended because they have many tasty items on the menu. The food was delicious and arrived quickly; you could already select your food for the next round on the tablet. And of course, this Sumo is in a prime location by the beach!

It was wonderful, but the best part was the smiling, sweet Chaeyoung, thank you beautiful girl ❤️❤️❤️

We ate at Sumo Scheveningen today at 5:30 PM, a table for two. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. The food was truly inedible: the sushi literally fell apart because the rice was not prepared properly, and the fried food looked like it had been re-fried multiple times. Everything tasted old and not fresh at all. For €100 for two people, you expect at least decent quality, but this was truly substandard. Cheap in terms of quality, but certainly not in terms of price. Absolutely not recommended.

Great service and delicious sushi, top restaurant

Sumo Scheveningen is the only Sumo left in The Hague. Incredibly delicious food, wonderfully fresh, and you can taste it. A changing menu that never disappoints. Very unique combinations too. Service is fast and they are very helpful!

We had a delicious meal via the All You Can Eat menu. You can order here via a tablet, which is super simple. The food is then placed on the table within 2-5 minutes per round. It was moderately busy on Thursday evening; not all tables were occupied. The dishes were delicious.

We stopped in this restaurant to get something to eat near the pier and were pleasantly surprised how good it was. I found the prices to be reasonable in comparison to other places in the Netherlands. I would definitely return.

We were here on February 14th. When we arrived at 5 p.m., it was already full, and I was glad I had a reservation. Someone quickly came to our table and explained how to use the tablet. A very friendly young man. The service was incredibly fast and running all evening. The food was very good and served quite quickly. They have an extensive menu, and the price for sushi/grill is reasonable! I really don't understand the bad reviews; we are very satisfied. I would love to come back here with my three children. However, my youngest is only three and has a dairy allergy. Unfortunately, there's nothing on the menu for her. I think adding fries or a frikandel (a Dutch croquette) would make the youngest in any family happy. Happy kids, happy parents 😉

Went there twice and both times it was super worth it don’t even need to ask for all you can eat because the sushi is already really big and the price is super worthy i feel like you eat properly with good quality i would definitely reccomend checking this place out!

We had a really delicious meal here. We had the more expensive version, and the sushi pieces were also truly excellent.

To start, the prices on the menu displayed outside are hidden by a sticker. When we entered, we opted for the all-you-can-eat menu for €31 for adults and €18-19 for children. They explained that we could order five items each. It's not the first time we've been to an Asian restaurant, and the all-you-can-eat menu doesn't work like that. Since there were four of us, we ordered 20 different items, thinking we'd still get a lot of food. Surprise! When the portions arrived, they were unbelievable... tiny, I've never seen rolls so small in my life. When you order an avocado roll, you get two tiny rolls (usually the number varies from 6 to 8 depending on the size)... unbelievable... and the same goes for all the other items, the rice portions, etc.... all ridiculous portions. They don't bring water in a jug, but sell you bottles for €8 a liter. In short, I spent €107 at an Asian restaurant and left feeling hungry after ordering an all-you-can-eat meal...never happened to me in my life. Avoid this restaurant.

Everything was really great. Excellent selection and very high quality! Especially the premium menu with the sashimi. The only downside was that they closed so early; longer opening hours would be better for tourists. Otherwise, highly recommended :)

After a day at Scheveningen, we had a delicious meal at Sumo! We were craving sushi, and you've come to the right place! We booked online and got a great spot. The service was quick and attentive! There's an option to add a premium package with special dishes to the regular package. We did this. Over two hours, you can order 8 rounds of up to 5 dishes. The rounds are served promptly at the table and the quality is excellent! The veal was a bit sinewy, but we enjoyed it! It was quite pricey, though, at €45 excluding drinks. But it was definitely worth it!

We had a wonderful meal at Sumo in Scheveningen. The service was excellent, the food arrived quite quickly, and the tablet ordering system worked well and quickly. The staff was very helpful and friendly. It can get a bit busy sometimes, though.

WORST SERVICE EVER!! Upon arrival, we were asked if we wanted drinks, but we declined because we didn't want anything. We were constantly asked, and then told we had to drink something anyway. Not a big deal, and we would have done so, but the whole attitude from a young white man afterward was unbelievable. He came by to tell us the tablet had to be returned because the kitchen was closing, even though it clearly showed 21 minutes left on the tablet. We told him we wanted to check, and he then "announced" that everything had to be finished, even though there was nothing on the table and I've been here before. He then came back again with, "Can I have the tablet?" Even though our time hadn't elapsed and he was back very quickly to take it. Then he said "thank you" in a very rude, high-pitched tone at the end. Bizarre, it seemed like we were treated differently because we initially refused drinks and only wanted to order food. Unbelievable, please do something about your staff, because nobody wants to be treated like this. Besides that, the food was tasty, but I won't be coming back here again.

I was literally alone on a FRIDAY lunch and I understood really fast why. The second you enter, a horrible smell radiates from the restaurant , it smells like old people , sweat and forgotten veggies but all at once and it smells A LOT , it's really noticeable at all times. The waiters , even thought i was alone in the restaurant, kept going rounds to make belief they are working.. as if I'm stupid or care as to what they are doing lol . And again, even though I was alone , the foods took quite some time to come out each time and weren't even good. I lasted 2 rounds before the smell overpowered me and got the hell out of there, I didn't even finish my beer. I will obviously, never go back.. this was a horrible experience.

First time eating there and never again. Poor service, food never arrived, and incomplete orders. One person was constantly asked what they wanted to drink without asking if the other wanted to order anything. They walked out before anyone else could order anything. Very expensive for such a poor restaurant.

Sumo has great food, great ambiance. We went a week so after the busy season, so no huge crowds lining up but was still busy. Got the teriyaki beef and rice and it did not disappoint.

Contrary to what is claimed below, you can still order solid ice cream. They even ask for it themselves, twice even with us ;-) No, not much has changed in that regard, and that is a good thing. Everything is still fine, good quality, fast and friendly service, and absolutely no complaints.

The menu food has gotten a lot worse, and personally, I find the dishes less tasty too. On top of that, it has become a lot more expensive. Tatsu in Leidschendam is tastier and cheaper, plus it has a gigantic mall.

A quarter of what was on the menu last year is gone. Ice cream is all gone, as are a few sushi varieties. The food is all okay, but no longer wow. The sauces used are minimal on the plate. Seems like a cost-cutting measure. Next time, I'll try Tatsu in Leidschendam. The price was way too high for what you got. I ended up paying 45 euros per person, and the food was worth 20 at most.

It was delicious again! The great thing about this location is that you have 8 rounds and can choose 5 dishes per person. Because of the multiple rounds, you can order a bit more relaxed and therefore enjoy it more. Soon again!

The bottle from the table next to us was half empty, but they just took it and put it in the cooler when it was poured. I find this absolutely unacceptable. How do you know what happened to the wine, and the bottle is being sold twice? Absolutely awful!

Food was good, but the experience was horrible. Constantly looked at and walked around to check if you have empty plates. Food is brought IMMEDIATELY, but not in 1x. So during the meal you constantly get new plates on the table. All you can eat has a lot of rules. Time-bound, but with 8 rounds and you have to wait 20 minutes between each round. Dessert is not included. Constantly asked if you want to drink more, order something extra. Felt very forced to come out with more. Won't be back.

I reserved a table online and we got it as soon as we arrived (with a baby chair! Fantastic!). The food came very quickly, so did the drinks. Our toddler was well entertained with all the small dishes that kept coming and she enjoyed them as well as we did! Overall a very good experience.

Amazing place to eat, wide variety of sushi and grilled options. The price is acceptable. The only complaint is thay drinks are not included, but it's definitely worth it.

I love sumo, the price did increase but not so much, its around 41 euros for all you can eat and 46 for the premium version ! I go here almost every year its very nice, its a bit dark inside and the tables are quiet close to eachother but thats about it. The food comes fast and warm (or cold depends on what you got) and its perfect. The only downsides with food is that the drinks cost almost 4 euros, and there isnt much dessert options.

We went here 2 Times on our vacation. The fisch tastes fresh and the Sushi-Combinations faste wonderful. We were positively surprised from the Crunchy-Mayo-Sushi.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't a good experience. A lot of it was pre-made or frozen. The beef carpaccio and prawns were watery and flavorless—we returned them. The desserts were equally tasteless. However, some of the sushi and warm meat dishes, as well as the sashimi, were okay.

One of our favorite places to have sushi, we've gone to the (now closed) Amsterdam locations regularly in the last 5 years and we're very sad to see them all gone. Once in a blue moon we indulge in the Hague

Not a lot of options, compared with other all you can eat where we’ve been we found the price high and not too many options.

It was very tasty, everything was freshly prepared, there were 8 rounds where you could order via tablet, and per round we could choose 5 dishes per person. The plates/dishes are only small, but with 5x8 orders per person you get full quickly - we made it to round 5. Using the toilet costs 1 euro. We had to wait a long time for our reserved table and 2 dishes never arrived at our table until we said something several times, which is why I'm deducting 1 star. Apart from that everything went smoothly and was tasty. You had to order drinks separately from the waiters, who were very friendly and there was always one nearby. What we also liked is that you have to pay a fine if you order too much with the all you can eat and then leave the food unattended, meaning it ends up being wasted/thrown away. We were told this straight away by a waiter at the start. We think it's right.

You noticed in everything that the chefs really have experience - the flavors were balanced and the combinations were original and well thought out. The design of the restaurant itself was fine, but personally I thought there was still room for improvement. I wish it could have been a little more cozy or more atmospheric, to complete the overall experience. Nevertheless, definitely recommended for sushi lovers. We will definitely come back for the food!

Excellent restaurant with many different types of dishes such as sushi, beef, desserts, etc.

Had a little something for lunch. The miso soup was tasty, but not quite hot. The sushi was freshly prepared, so there was a short wait, but the waiter immediately apologized for that. Very fresh and tasty. Savings were made on ginger; I would have liked to have had more of it than these three grams. Overall price/performance okay.

Delicious Japanese food. Of course we had the “all you can eat” offer, which did not only include sushi but also a wide selection of Japanese dishes like chicken teriyaki or (small) bowls. The staff was very polite but a bit formal.

For an AYCE Japanese restaurant, they know how to offer very varied and extremely freshly prepared dishes. That is also possible for the price. If you also want to use the premium dishes, it will cost €5 extra per person. For this you get a very large selection of good quality fish, especially salmon and tuna. The 5 dishes at a time and the 8 courses in two hours is more than sufficient.

Once the renovation of the terrace is finished, it will be a lovely spot. Nice coffee

Very nice place, delicious food, and good help in choosing what I would eat and drink. I wanted all you can eat, but they have 2 of them here. I chose the more expensive version because I wanted it to be a bit classier and more extensive. I was also able to try out something that was unknown to me and I also liked it and I carefully took a second one. I ate more than enough. What I also thought was a very good plus point is that we have to pay extra here if we don't eat something, to prevent food waste. More restaurants that offer all you can eat should do this. Then many people would think twice before ordering something and not eating it.
