We waited more than 50 minutes. We indicated several times to the staff that we had not had any food yet and whether this was correct. The staff indicates that they are checking it, but do not provide feedback. After 50 minutes they discovered that the tablet was not set up correctly. Can happen... The employee came to report this to us and just barely threw the tablet back on the table. No excuse, no drink on the premises, nothing. We allow this to happen in amazement. When the first round was finally brought there was a hair on the sushi. This was the final straw for us and we decided to leave. The response was very passive aggressive and we were asked to pay for the drinks.

Sumo used to be an okay place, but nowadays it has deteriorated considerably. Service terrible, coke ordered, got nothing twice. Food was not ok and the fruit portions can't be called a portion. I have the feeling that it is a new owner who does not know what he is doing. You don't have to go here.

Erg duur voor wat je krijgt. Was rond half 7 langs geweest om te dineren met een vriendin. Kreeg maar 90 min de tijd om te eten. Crunchy maki was oud en niet knapperig, vlees was koud, kreeg sommige bestellingen niet en kreeg verkeerde drankjes. Ook kwamen ze aan je tafel met verkeerde bordjes. Service was gehaast en had geen respect voor de klanten. Had lekker mijn tijd willen nemen om te dineren maar was bij ronde 3 al bijna over mijn tijd heen en kon ik niet meer bestellen. Bijna 40 euro p.p en je krijgt niks fatsoenlijks.

The sushi was ok, but all the hot dishes we ordered arrived cold, many dishes did not arrive. Large drinks were sold out, had to ask for wasabi several times and staff responded in an irritated and unnecessarily sarcastic manner. Ordered 4x squid but never arrived.

Not the SUMO we used to know. Unfortunately, the food quality has become really bad. We used to come to SUMO a lot, at different locations. This is the only restaurant that’s left now. We wanted to get the usual experience. But, the grill was cold, sushi had too much rice, some fish didn’t seem fresh, chicken teriyaki seemed to be cooked twice. The service time is much longer than at any other sushi restaurants. That’s unfortunate, but I cannot recommend SUMO anymore.

This place is a joke. We went for the all-you-can-eat option, but not all the food we ordered arrived. When we asked about it, one of the employees argued with us instead of checking with the kitchen. Even though they knew we didn’t speak Dutch, they continued speaking it, making the situation worse. The overall customer service was terrible. The staff clearly needs retraining in basic customer service skills. If you can’t provide decent customer service, you shouldn’t be in this line of work. It's disappointing that a place like this hires people who have zero motivation to do their job. As if that wasn’t enough, they made us wait and then came back blaming us for the issues with our food. Since we’re not the ones working in the kitchen, we couldn't possibly know what went wrong. We did know what we ordered, but we weren’t confident everything was handled correctly. Their "solution" to their rude behavior was offering us an extra round, which wasn’t what we wanted at all. It’s rocket science. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Acaban de subir el precio y no es AYCE, ya que solo tienes 5 rondas como máximo.Esto estaría totalmente bien si solo llegara la comida que pediste. Los platos calientes llegaron fríos o tibios en el mejor de los casos. Cuando le mencioné esto al camarero enviaron un plato de vuelta a la cocina para ser recalentado, pero el resto permaneció frío o tibio. La mayoría de las bebidas se agotaron y tuve que pedir tanto wasabi como la factura varias veces antes de recibirlo. Esta noche no tenían suficiente personal y tenían a un aprendiz trabajando. Los otros camareros le gritaron así que así es como asumo que estaba en entrenamiento. Sumo Hilversum es mucho mejor. Para Amsterdam sería mejor ir a Shiso en su lugar.

No exagerando, la peor experiencia en restaurantes que he tenido en mi vida hasta ahora. Hicimos todo lo que puede comer, que definitivamente NO valía la pena el precio. La calidad de los alimentos era mala, las porciones pequeñas y el servicio (y la actitud) era terrible. Esperábamos tanto tiempo entre cada plato que se servía (tardamos 40 minutos en entregar nuestra primera ronda de platos) y muchos de los alimentos "calientes" ya estaban tibios o fríos cuando se entregaron a nuestra mesa. Entendemos que son vacaciones de verano y muchos de sus servidores están de vacaciones, pero si no tienes suficientes trabajadores, ¿tal vez no tomes tantas mesas si no puedes atenderlos a todos al menos a algún tipo de estándar aceptable? No me importa un servicio más lento, pero esto fue demasiado. Nuestros sentimientos parecen ser el sentimiento general para otros comensales a nuestro alrededor también. De las otras tres mesas sentadas en nuestra sección más tranquila del restaurante, una salió debido a la lentitud del servicio, y las otras dos se habían quejado al personal / dirección al respecto.

Went to eat all you can eat, it isn't. 5 rounds of 4 choices where one choice is one or two pieces of sushi. The staff is incredibly rude and don't speak English or dutch. Tap water isn't sold for some reason? And you pay 20 euros for a litre of water. All the food is visibly left out and dry and old, flavour quite bad on a lot of dishes especially the spicy stuff and the rice dishes. I used to love the sumo chain especially the ones in rotterdam and breda but here in Amsterdam it is terrible. 0/10 don't recommend going here

The allergens on the menu are incorrect (an employee indicated), which meant that, as a vegan, I suddenly could hardly eat anything anymore. The food is okay, but not great. But what do you expect when you go to an all you can eat. Service is not personal and gives conflicting answers. The fact that you receive 2 tablets for a group does not mean that you will be served the correct dishes per table. So pay close attention to what you order.

Terrible grumpy waiter welcomed us with obviously a really bad temper. I asked him if he was alright. Yeah and you? He said. I looked at him and said that i am alright but he certainly not is. Mein Partner und ich hatten in der Mittagsstunde die „all you can eat“ Runde genommen auf dem iPad. Leider wussten wir nicht dass „all you can eat“ nur 5 Runden wo man bestellen kann heißt (mit 8 min Speisen). Davon war die erste Runde nur zwei Getränke die uns der Keller bestellt hatte. 5 Runden klingt eigentlich nicht nach wenig, aber es ist trotzdem nicht „all you can eat“. Mein Partner wurde leider nicht Sat (für den Preis). Ebenfalls war ihre Auswahl an Deserts in der Mittagsstunde sehr gering mit zwei Speisen und davon kostete die mini Obstsalat Schüssel extra. Allgemein war das essen nicht sehr frisch , die Avocado hatte nicht mehr so frisch geschmeckt. (Und die Vegan/ Vegetarische Option war mangelhaft.) Am sonstigen war das Essen aber sehr okay.

A fine AYCE. Service was a bit slow when getting seated. I would recommend the nigiri scallop flambe and the nigiri salmon flambe. Is it the best AYCE in Amsterdam in my opinion? NO. Will it satisfy a craving for sushi? DEFINITELY. A visit worthy if you want to satisfy your sushi cravings👍

Went on a Saturday evening with two people. Maximum 5 rounds with 4 dishes pp. The sushi has become really small. So you get a maximum of 20 small sushi per person. Together with 2 ice tea pp, we had to pay 100 euros. That's really not worth it.

The food was tasty, but it was served cold. It seemed like there wasn’t enough staff, with the chefs working faster than the waiters. The waiters were overwhelmed, rushing around and making us feel anxious. SUMO has shortened the dining time from 120 minutes to 90 minutes. Additionally, the original 5 dishes served 5 times (25) have been reduced to 4 dishes X 5 times (20), making the “unlimited” offer feel misleading, scam. The lamb chops costs extra 1 EURO, which didn’t feel fair.

Sumo is no longer what it was before. Food is still okay but the service is really unprofessional. Our waiter has mistaken our order multiple times (for drinks), you can see stuff arguing between the tables and having discussions. Also they don’t use the kitchen as the area to store dirty dishes. They do it in the bar in front of everyone, just piles and piles of wasted food and dirty dishes. Plus they had Spanish music on blast for the entire time. It doesn’t fit the atmosphere and the ambiance of the place at all.

Went to sumo tonight with colleagues During 1 of the takeaways, 1 of the plates with sauce fell on my pants, shoe and mobile phone, an apology was taken away, but nothing else was done with it. The quality of sumo is no longer what it used to be, 4 dishes per person and the price has increased considerably, the menu has less choice than before. When paying, I asked what could be done about the plates that had fallen on me, I suspect the manager came to check, asked what I wanted, I set something high and wanted to check what their response was, I started with 50%, he thought that was ridiculous and initially didn't want to do anything, he had never experienced that before, my colleagues said 50% on my costs, he had to think about it... and it became 15€ All in all a bad experience at sumo Won't be a repeat...

This is a concept restaurant in several cities, for all you can eat sushi. You basically get 90 min to order 5 rounds of sushi. You are provided a tablet to order everything yourself. There are some price exclusions, including sashimi and all drinks. The service of the food is quick. The beverage service was a bit lacking. The restaurant decor is impressive.

I was happy to bring friends and family every time someone visited Me in Amsterdam. However, on my last visit to Sumo, I felt that the quality and service dropped very much. For instance, I ordered drinks several times but still have not received them. The food served was not the one I ordered; it seemed old and tasted less. The waitress was not listening to any of our requests and ignored most of them. As a result, we end up paying and leaving with the most awful experience as possible.

Far from the best experience, unfortunately. Service is so slow that we waited for tea for 40 minutes! Also, they completely mess up orders, we had to send back things many times. Even though you have 90 minutes to eat, the slow service makes finishing in time a bit challenging. Sushi itself were okay (I even liked sashimi salad!), but I still think it’s better to pay more and go to a better place. Decorations are cheap and tasteless. So tasteless, that it even makes overall atmosphere a bit interesting.

Been here 2 weeks ago. Was a hot summer day and went there for lunch. The interior was the same as at many Sumo locations. Because it was so early, it wasn't that busy. The crowds came a little later. Staff is nice and helpful. There is even a walking robot on staff that largely takes orders from the kitchen to the dining area. Opted for an All You Can Eat menu. It's after years of doing this. I vaguely remember that you could choose 5 dishes per round, which has now been reduced to 4. But I don't know for sure anymore. Hygiene was good. Sushi itself was also good: you get little rice and the garnish is just good enough. As it gets busier, it will also take longer for your order to arrive. A mistake was made with one dish I ordered. That was only corrected 2 rounds later. All in all, a sufficient place where you will be served well as long as it is not busy.

We had a dinner with family and was ok. A lot of runners but less engaged to the guests. The ordering went quite fast in the beginning and at some point there was a caos with some orders, not only with us but also other tables. The restaurant itself is nice, quite clean. They should be working on more in communication between them, kitchen and servers. We expected a little more choices in food considering the prices. I will not come back.

The website states that you can eat there for 2 hours. When you have the tablet in your hands (the price is already running and the drink is already on the table!!) you are told that you can only order for 1.5 hours. Very strange. You cannot order drinks via the tablet, only food. You may then order 4 dishes per round. Most of the food we get (4 people) was already cold when it came to the table. We still think it's just us because we're having a nice chat. But nothing is less true. We then said something about it and warmer food finally came to the table. I personally found the quality of the meat to be moderate to poor. Furthermore, I think the sauces are very similar and there is not much flavor. Furthermore, you cannot get desserts here that come with your meal. All in all, I found the food quite disappointing and will skip the restaurant next time. The service was certainly friendly and helpful. It was certainly not due to that and also not to the decoration of the building because that suits the restaurant.

Sumo 4 in Amsterdam has suffered a sharp decline, from orders not arriving to receiving hot sushi and raw chicken. I've been during lunch and you could just tell you were getting old sushi. What was supposed to be crispy was soft and rubbery, and then you also get warm sushi. In addition, the fried food is also unacceptable, with a salad we received raw chicken, when we indicated this we were told that this is just how they prepare the chicken here. Sumo Amsterdam is a fantastic Japanese restaurant where you can order as much as you like for a fixed price per person. The dishes were delightful, especially the cheese Beefroll, Chinese dumplings, tempura shrimp, beef with asparagus, and the fruit ice cream. Super unprofessional manager. I recieved all the food ( cold and hot) at once. When i asked to take my hot item away, he firstly told me it’s not possible then he agreed. Later when he brought me my lamb racks back the meat was extremely hard and not possible to chew. But what surprised me the most the manager put all blame on me that I didn’t specify the way my lambs should be cooked. No wonder everything went wrong, since from the very beginning manager gave me a list of paper and napkin and told me to write down what I want to eat. Hallo Sumo, is it a normal service?

Busy and noisy, but that's easy in the middle of the city. It took forever before we finally got a tablet and could order. The meat was cold and the sushi not as tasty as I am used to. Apparently there was a malfunction that caused the tablets to no longer work, it took half an hour before we received a paper ticket and half an hour later before we received the first dish. We were done with it and went to pay, I complained that we hardly ate and got a whopping 5 euro discount on 100 euro... we will never come here again. I had to go to Maccie afterwards because I hadn't eaten enough. Oh yes, and there was something in my glass of 4eu drink, but no one could help me...

The quality of the food was significantly lower than Shabu Shabu which has almost the same Menu and price tag. The speed of bringing the food was also lower. Too much Soy sauce + sugar on everything. I couldn’t taste the meat.

Second time here. Food was great. Service was great. But the prices are exorbitant. Way too expensive for what you get. A fabulous experience and lots of fun but too expensive. Will not be back .

Yes,. The tent will close soon and immediately it will be one big chaos in terms of service. In each round we did not receive at least 2 dishes, which is more than 1 round in total if there are two of you. Waiter first wanted to give coffee or tea as compensation. We didn't need that. Ultimately received a discount on the bill as compensation, but actually this is just bad. We always went here for the ok price/quality. Unfortunately, there is little left of it.

It is alrightttt. The quality of food is not good, that is why it is not that expensive. It is not the best sushi place, but it isnot the worst either. There were acceptable things like miso soup, edamame or breaded shrimp. The nigiris and rolls could be quite improved. An acceptable place if you do not have a reserved table.

Second time in this restaurant and I'm delighted, the food is super good and the cocktails too. The servers are also pleasant. I like the “all you can eat” concept with the tablet. I highly recommend it, the sushi is so good

The atmosphere is really beautiful, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. Right at the entrance they left me waiting instead of directing me to my table, and the guy who greeted me was not at all receptive. At first I expected the service to be good, as I saw good reviews, but I was often left waiting at the table to place my order, and I looked at the waiters hoping they would notice me, but nothing. Unfortunately the service has a lot to improve, don't expect much from the service.

We visited on an "all you can eat" evening. Sushi was of medium quality. I think the options on the other menu were more successful than sushi. The price and performance are at an acceptable level.

Hello everyone 💜 I am very sorry to give such a poor review. I do not to be mean, but I also just want to share my experience. I share the good and the bad. 🙃 My boyfriend and I were here somewhere end januari. We chose this place to celebrate our anniversary. I am very grateful to have found a table, because it was around 8pm and we were very hungry. And this place was pretty busy. So here my personal experience. Maybe it was just not a good day for Sumo Amsterdam. I am just sad that the anniversary celebration was pretty ruined for us. Since we couldn't even finish dinner here and ended up at a kebab take away place, since everything other similar restaurants were pretty much closing already. Here my review. Service: Everything was just a huge mess from the start to the end. It took a pretty long time to order drinks, since the waiters did not come often to our table. When we finally were to receive the iPads to order our food, we ordered, but the plates coming to our tables were not what we had ordered on the iPad. Then slowly we started receiving 1 or 2. The time passed and it was time for the second possi le order through the app and again the waiters were coming to our table with orders that we didn't make. By now we had only eaten maybe three small dishes and we were very very hungry. On our Ipads we could se double orders, orders that we were not making, but they were assigned to our table number. So that explained why the waiters kept coming with dishes not on our list. Later on we understood that our neighbors were ordering their dishes, but with our table number. So I believe they were also receiving our dishes and us theirs and a whole confusion. However they did not mention that they hadn't order those dishes and just ate away, while we were very honest. So the waiters took the dishes to their table. So they were eating their order and ours. 😥 A whole hour had passed and we had only eaten 1 sushi, 1 salmon and spicy cucumbers. And also maybe 3 sips of our cola's. I addressed the situation and told them that I was not happy at all. And that we just wanted to cancel our dinner and that I was not going to pay for this terrible service. The person concerned understood this, made some questions and we could go. We didn't pay nothing, but we eere very disappointed, hungry and frustrated about the situation. Food: The good had good taste, but warm dishes were very cold. The salmon for example was super cold. No sign of being fresh. The sushi's were okay and the spicy cucumbers were of course very fresh and tasty. I can't tell more, because I didn't eat more. Atmosphere: I must say that this place is very pretty. Definitely an eye catching restaurant. That is the reaskn why we chose our anniversary dinner here. But is was also very crowded and very loud. Not exactly a place to have a quiet and relaxing dinner. However, the place really make you feel in Asia. Costumer service: I didn't really experience a high quality service. Some of the waiter were attentice of the issue we were having, but this was not solved anyways. The first lady was very unkind, uninteresting and tired. The actual asian waiters were not very empathetic of the situatio . They didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. When I mention that we just wanted to leave, she didn't even react or explain what had happened or how they could fix the issue for us. It felt like we did them a favor by leaving, because she immediately said 'ok'. Without any further apologies. General: If you want to go, go. Because even though I read the bad experience I decided to go and experience it for myself. Because people sometimes are super sensitive. I want to believe that I was not, however it was our anniversary dinner. This made it extra annoying for me. I would liek to try another Simo loaction, however not Amsterdam. Good luck!

All you can eat. But ordering a drink is a task at itself. The staff is extremely rude and not willing to help (there was only one guy that was supportive) the food often to greasy or even cold. The sushi was medium but other dishes horrible. Safe yourself and don’t go here. I don’t usually write bad reviews. But nobody seem to care at Sumo. 🥲

Went last Saturday. Too big a deal. There are also robot carts driving around... unlimited food for 5 rounds. And if you ordered drinks in between, it was also considered a round... so in the end only 3 rounds... there were four of us... and we didn't get everything of the rounds we ordered. Service throws the food on the table. Wine was like water! All in all, one big disappointment and that for 40 euros worth of food...... the sumo of a few years ago is no longer there! Not even in terms of quality on all fronts.
