Tacos & Tequila in De Weteringschans

Been here twice before with the previous (now seemingly old) menu, and on both occasions the food and service were incredible — easy 5 stars. Unfortunately, this visit was a huge letdown and I’ve had to drop my rating to 2 stars. Prices have seemingly doubled in the last six months. €24 for a burrito that was genuinely about the size of half a slice of toast is extremely hard to justify. While the flavour was okay and there was a decent amount of birria beef, the portion was very small overall. To make matters worse, it came with two single tortilla chips and a smear of sauce, which honestly felt insulting at that price point. My partner ordered chicken wings for €13. The portion size itself was reasonable, but charging an extra €2 for sauce is ridiculous. The wings were dry, almost burnt, and only lightly seasoned with a mild “Mexican-style” flavour. They also ordered a quesadilla — something you could easily make better at home. It had barely any tomatoes in it, lacked flavour, and €11 for half a quesadilla is shocking. It really feels like prices have either increased across the board or were inflated because it was around New Year’s. Either way, it’s a business practice I can’t support. This place has gone from a must-visit to “we’ll give it one more chance

I had made a reservation, but they couldn't find it in the system. We ordered food and then had to wait an hour. The food was cold, the cheese on the nachos was too hard. The nachos weren't topped properly with the toppings. The birria burger wasn't filled properly. The meat also tasted very old. Overall, a terrible experience. I will definitely never return and I don't recommend it!

Eventhough the taste of the food was nice, each of my tortillas kept falling apart. Therefore, I had to use cutlery to eat tacos…

The food here was delicious! While the tacos are a little on the expensive side they really do give you a good amount for the price! I had beef, octopus and chicken tacos and the flavour was great! Extra spicy sauce can be added on the side for those wanting that extra kick ranging in spice level! All cocktails can be had with or without alcohol which is great for those not wanting to drink but would like to try the range of margaritas! Staff were very friendly and welcoming! Atmosphere was very cozy!

This place has great Mexican food. I tried the tacos and nachos and really liked the chicken and octopus tacos. The habanero–pineapple salsa pairs perfectly with both the tacos and the nachos. The service was also excellent. The only downside for me was the price. Compared to other Mexican restaurants, it’s definitely on the higher side. However, the quality of the food and cocktails is very good.

pretty expensive for what you get

We ate at this restaurant on our first evening in Amsterdam and were absolutely delighted. The food was delicious, and the drinks were excellent as well. The exceptionally friendly service deserves special mention – the waiter was incredibly attentive and welcoming. We felt so comfortable that we returned for dinner the very next evening. Highly recommended!

Truly delicious tacos! Fast and efficient service, even without a reservation. We had an appetizer and two taco entrees, all very good and well-prepared. Fair price: €70 total. A truly positive experience, we'll definitely be back!

The food was alright, but they got our orders wrong. When we told them we were missing certain things, they said we never ordered anything like that.

Honestly the food was nothing special. But the service was just horrible. They messed up our taco order. We ordered 5 but we got 3 instead. So when we wanted the extra 2 taco's they told us we need to order 3.

Expensive. Even the Tap water is not free... and I couldnt find the price in the menu, so it was a big surprise when the check came...

We went here for dinner on Saturday night. We had 30% off the Fork discount. We ordered nachos, birria tacos, shrimp, pork, and chicken, and they were all very good except for the pork, which wasn't very good because it was cold. The food all came at once and should have been served in stages. We also ordered quesadillas and Mexican beers. Overall, everything was good and the prices are okay!

Great place! Recommend this to anyone. From an American xpat who misses Mexican food.

The service was so good. The taco and quesadilla were fine. The meat was brisket. Not the best, just average. The service was excellent.

Very expensive tacos, tiny portions and everyone that ordered got something wrong, either an ingredient that they did not want still came or a wrong taco altogether.

We were a big group, but most of us where didsappointed with the food. Out of the 3 taco's only 1 was still warm. The drinks were good, and the service was friendly. I'd recommend they get a plate warmer, or bring out the food faster.

Tacos are unreal here, the best we’ve had in Amsterdam. Grab a mango caliente to warm up your loins first.

We went on a Monday, and even though it’s not a very common day to go out, the restaurant was full. I definitely recommend making a reservation. The atmosphere was great — relaxed, lively, and perfect for a fun, chatty evening, with good music and nice decoration. As for the food, it was good, but nothing extraordinary in my opinion. One thing I found strange was that the tacos don’t come with guacamole, which for me is a bit odd. If you want guacamole, you have to pay an extra €2 😑. The burrito was good, but it only came with about four or five nachos. The cocktails were just okay. One thing I didn’t enjoy was the fact that our table was right next to the heater, which became uncomfortable because of the heat. To be fair, I love Mexican food, so maybe I’m being a bit too critical. The prices are typical for Amsterdam — it’s hard to find good places for under €30.

Really expensive and below average tacos. The pork taco was cold and extremely chewy. And the taco itself was a bit burnt. 8 euros for per taco for this? I don’t think so. Plus, takes half an hour to get the bill.

The best place to eat in Amsterdam, the food is excellent. Laura, who served us, was wonderful—super patient, polite, and charming. And Jordan makes amazing margaritas. It was a pleasure to eat here.

From the moment we arrived, Laura greeted us with exceptional kindness, always attentive and smiling, recommending dishes and drinks that turned out to be absolutely perfect. The Mexican food was delicious: authentic flavors, well-seasoned, and with that perfect blend of tradition and creativity. The tacos were fresh and bursting with flavor, and the portions were more than generous. And what can we say about the margaritas… simply spectacular! Balanced, refreshing, and with just the right touch of acidity that makes you want another. All in all, a place with a great atmosphere, excellent service, and food that transports you straight to Mexico. We will definitely be back.

The food was absolutely amazing and the server even better. I didn’t catch his name but the Irish gentleman was fantastic. Despite being on his own in front-of-house, he made sure everyone was attended to and food came quickly.

Horrible. First, you're told everything you can't do or aren't allowed. Then you're ignored for ages before being served burnt junk. Only the drinks were somewhat decent.

We went here. My experience was a bit disappointing. First off, the appetizer (ceviche) was okay, but I felt it lacked a bit more flavor. The main course: the tacos were small and expensive. They arrived a bit cold. I also found paying €10 for a glass of Mexican lemonade expensive; it was literally water with a chunk of ginger and some flavor. The service was fine, and the lady was friendly. The restaurant is beautiful, but it was so crowded that it was impossible to have a quiet conversation. In short, this was my first and last time. I thought it was expensive, but not worth it.

We came here for food recently, and I’m overall slightly disappointed. We had hyped up this place to ourselves for our Amsterdam trip, but were left disappointed. The staff are lovely and the service is fast which is great. The margarita I ordered lacked flavour other than tequila. (Not usually something to argue over, but if I order a sweet cocktail I’d like for it to taste that way) The portion sizes are very measly, the shrimp taco had only 1 piece of shrimp for €8! Honestly each of the tacos lacked flavour, it tasted as though something was missing. Birria tacos were on the dry side, and the consommé was far too salty. The nicest part of the meal were the chips, which were also pricey at €9 for a bowl (mad!) I firmly believe that charging for tap water is a cop out. Especially if other drinks are being ordered. I can’t say I will be back.

Was here yesterday for a friends birthday, had an amazing experience. We were mostly served by Deborah, she was amazing. We can be pretty weird and loud and they took it like champs. The food was also really good, a bit pricy but the rest made up for that. Deborah recommended us the besos margarita which is by far the best cocktail I’ve had in a while. Overall 9/10 experience will definitely be returning soon Thank you guys so much for an amazing evening

We had 3 small tacos (octopus, beef, and chicken). These were great! I think I liked the chicken the best. We then shared a chicken burrito, which was a good choice as it was heavy. I couldn’t finish my half! But it was so so delicious I was disappointed I couldn’t. We both had a cocktail as well. I liked the interior, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of the elevated area. We were sitting by the window where it wasn’t too cold, even with the door opened and it being cold outside!

Service atmosphere and food are amazing here! The octopus tacos with tequila mayonaise are a must! Also love that they have a lot of gluten free options

DO NOT RECOMMEND - Tourist trap We were stuck waiting 40-50 minutes for our food—just a basic burrito and some Mexican rice with eggs. Absolutely not worth the ridiculous wait, and when it finally showed up, it was utterly mediocre and completely underwhelming.

Based on the location I was exceptical, but this place is 10/10. The birria sandwich is amazing, tacos were great but the best part was the enthusiasm of the manager talking about tequila. He heard was my boyfriend’s bday and offered a free shot of great tequila paired with an amazing story about the origins. If you want good food and tasting the best tequilas available in Netherlands, this is the place to be 🫶
