I had a drink on the terrace this week, so I can't comment on the food. My experience was positive: a beautiful location on the canal, not too crowded, and friendly service!

Terrible food, rotten aioli, 0 recommendations and on top of that it's very expensive.

Great place to sit. Service isn't fast, though, and the staff will often pass you by. It's also quite expensive.

First, I want to say that I don't know what the food tastes like, so I'm not sure if that one star is accurate. My girlfriend and I went to Utrecht for a day trip today. Unfortunately, almost all of our time was spent waiting for nothing at this terrace. We sat there for a full half hour. First, we ordered drinks. Then we got the wrong one. We tried to exchange it for the right one, but the waiter was nowhere to be seen, and when he was, we were completely ignored. The table wasn't cleared either; there were crumbs, hair, and drinks from previous customers. The waiter came by several times, but never cleared/cleaned it. We also ordered food. The waiter said he would let us know if it would be possible to get it from the restaurant upstairs to the terrace downstairs. Half an hour later, we still hadn't had any food or new drinks. Then I decided to look for the waiter myself. When I found him and wanted to ask about the food and the wrong drinks, he told me that the food we had ordered couldn't be delivered. He didn't bother to mention this to us himself. He asked if we wanted to pay the bill because, according to him, we'd been sitting there "for a while," which, in that case, means half an hour. I refused to pay the bill and left with an empty stomach. However, if you're looking for a thrill, this is the place to be: you'll see lots of boats sailing by, the drivers of which don't like each other and start arguing. Overall, I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant! And if you're reading this while you're already there, get out of here!

Lovely outdoor and next to the Tunnel, Ganzenmarkt which is the horse way to the camel in the old day.

Ate today, - terrible kitchen, - ordered pimientos de padron, which are supposed to be green, fried in olive oil with coarse sea salt. They were all browned and floating in the fat. They kept ordering four at a time, so the other person had nothing. And then a bill with other tables on it. Imagine not noticing. And then not giving change. What a terrible place with terrible service!

Nice tapas restaurant. Food prices seem reasonable for downtown. Could use a few more local beers on tap. However I don't understand policy of no tap water unless also ordering a paid drink. Surely if you are also having food, this should not be the case for a restaurant?

Very nice place on the canal. Super tasty food (a bit much, but that's okay :)). Very nice staff too, I've been there a few times and enjoyed it every time!!

The worlds worst nachos! Don’t go here unless you have to. And if you do don’t order the nachos. Better to buy a bag of Doritos and some cheese and sit on the grass. This is really terrible attempt at making one of the worlds most loved dishes!

Nice restaurant but nothing special.

We had a very nice meal. Good menu, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere where it is not too busy, but still cozy.

Very friendly staff. The food is very tasty. A bit on the pricey side compared to the quantity per dish. Furthermore, a cozy atmosphere and a nice system for ordering (via a tablet, easy!)

You can find this tapas restaurant on the canal, down the stairs. Upon entering you immediately feel the cozy atmosphere due to the cheerful colors, authentic shape of the ceiling and walls, the cozy sofas and cute tables. You can go there both in small groups and with a group. The menu includes a wide choice of vegetarian, fish and meat dishes. If you can't choose, go for the mix. Food is not very special, but good. I would definitely come back here again.

Obvious poor service. Being served the wrong thing several times, not a nice wine. Very impersonal because you order via a tablet and 'ask' for the bill. We won't go here again!

Service was very professional and the tapas were excellent! Our servers Maartje and Niels were very attentive, hospitable and professional. The cooks were also very nice and friendly! Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Outrageously bad food. Never before have I eaten something so disgustingly bad in a restaurant. It's really amazing what they serve here under the name 'tapas'. Zero spices, straight from the microwave, no cooking involved. I would be ashamed if I gave this to my guests and I really don't understand why this place still exists. Do yourself a favor and never eat here.

Upon arrival, after waiting 10 minutes, we had to ask for a menu ourselves. This while all the plates of the previous guests were still on the table. Management did not seem very interested. We were then able to order our drinks, which we also waited about 10 minutes for. After waiting 45 minutes (!!) for our first round that we ordered, we left. We won't be coming back here again!

Great location, friendly service, lousy cuisine.

A restaurant in the heart of Utrecht with a Spanish twist. In this restaurant you can find a lot of tapas, but not too high quality, fine but not necessarily good. The service (when they finally come) is quite nice, but also slow... Everything is nicely taken care of and set in the right atmosphere, sometimes a little too much, making it too dark inside... All in all, great if you're in the area! But highly recommended? No not really (still fine)

Service was very nice, food was usually tasty and the tablet system works well. However, it took a very long time before the food was on the table, even when ordering tanks. In addition, some photos are misleading.

The service was poor and disinterested. The food was terrible: lukewarm, not fresh and stale. I think everything is just microwaved.

Lovely place right on the canal bank. The waitresses were very quick and served us drinks straight away. We really appreciated that after ordering two large beers the draft ran out, but they brought us two small ones so as not to leave us without drinking, the others were brought later. We took a "mezze" (double tray with lots of different tapas) for two and ate divinely. We did not encounter any quality or service problems. Maybe the secret is to arrive a little late (it was almost 9pm and it wasn't very crowded) to find yourself well served and well eaten 😉

Really more than fine. I was really lucky with the service, in previous reviews I read that things sometimes go wrong there. There were a bunch of enthusiastic girls working and the two-tiered tapas dish was a feast for the eyes. Delicious food! It was noticeable that the cook had Moroccan roots; the cous cous that came with it was exceptionally good! The decor looked North African, very nice. We will definitely come back!

Had a very bad experience last month. Last year I had a delicious meal here and a pleasant evening. But last time was really horrible. It took all of 30 minutes before we got our first drink and for the rest of the evening the service was very slow and the food was lukewarm or cold. We sat here for 4 hours, 2.5 hours of which we waited for staff who could not be found. The mojitos were decent, but the sangria was terrible: it was cloudy, black (!?) and had packaging material in it. Luckily we got the money back for the sangria. I won't be going to the Tapas Cellar anymore for the time being. I hope that in the future it will be as much fun as it used to be, then I will definitely come again.

Had to ask for a drink after 15 minutes. Then you had to ask for the menu yourself. Waitress was happy that we chose a standard menu because she could not explain the ordering system with the tablet. Food was partly lukewarm and cold, mediocre quality. In short, not recommended.

The food tastes really good and the quantity is also great. But here you really have to wait for your food. Was eating here with friends a month ago and we were ordering as much as possible. However, we had the feeling that the waitresses were mixed up a lot and didn't really have an idea of ​​who was getting what. In addition, it took a long time before we received dishes. Just downright bad, after a 10 minutes of waiting finally a drink and food being able to order. No, it wasn't busy. Then you already have your drink. If someone comes again we have forgotten you, you can offer a soft drink. Reasonable quality food but little variety and insufficient fish

Lots of staff during the canal pride. We got there around a quarter past 12. There was only 1 menu. 7 tapas bowls and it tasted excellent. However, the service, although friendly, is far too slow. They just stood there. The drinks, coffee and tea came after 15 minutes. The tapas arrived after about half an hour and were served at the wrong table. When you finally ask for the bill, they don't bring it. To dare to ask for 47 euros is simply too much. We won't come here again.

Ate here a year ago, it was fine. Unfortunately a lesser experience this time. The pillows look nice, but smell musty and are not clean. Service not great either. What I also find less positive is ordering via a tablet... clumsy and impersonal.

Had a great afternoon & evening at the tapas cellar. Table 822 (if I remember correctly) you are sitting on the water in the lounge area near the tree. It was busy but the service was just as friendly. It could sometimes take a little longer, but the chill spot and atmosphere makes up for everything. Meat platter for two people was tasty and sufficient, a bit of everything. Maybe a tip: buy a few large 'reserved' signs for tables that are reserved. It now takes too much time for the service to keep the tables reserved because people just sit down.

Terrible to have to order your food via a tablet

Great food and great atmosphere. We went for the all you can eat menu and all tapas were delightful. It's located in a old cellar at the Utrech channels and the informal lounge-y atmosphere was fantastic.

We only ordered drinks and dipping bread but still it took around 30 min to be served. Bread was good but there is not really nothing to excel in bread... Service was really slow.. Even to pay.. very bad experience. Location was great by the canal

The food is so not tasty, it is not worth the money.

Pit smell. Dog pooping on the terrace is normal. There was no service. Food was 'mweh'. Desserts not included with unlimited. Pooping dog was actually the highlight of the evening. To be repeated.

Mega cozy tent... good food and drinks.

When here for drinks in the afternoon, great little space outside just by the canal and a very interesting space inside that reminded me of my trip to Morocco.

We had a nice spot by the water in the sun. We had to wait a very long time and finally after waiting 1 hour we left without getting our drinks.

After the wine and food walk we ate a few snacks here. I found ordering via the tablet not customer friendly and unclear. Ultimately, I didn't see any time savings in this.

Nice restaurant. The terrace outside is nice because you sit directly on the canal. The atmosphere inside is cozy/romantic. The tables are surrounded by a kind of lounge sofas. Ordering is done via a tablet which works well. The tapas was well varied (ordered mezze for two people), some things could have been a bit warmer (was a bit lukewarm). Not the best tapas ever eaten, but quite good in taste. The atmosphere inside makes up for a lot :).

Had a very tasty meal at the Tapas Cellar. We found the service to be very poor. There were few staff, so empty containers were left on the table and the wait was sometimes long. Had dinner in the tapas cellar on March 3. Location is great, but we are not enthusiastic. We were seated at our table and it took another 20 minutes before we got anything to drink. The food was mediocre. We opted for unlimited tapas. Many portions were very large. Not what you would expect from tapas. Smoked salmon. 5 pieces naked on a plate; too much. Ham and melon also not tasty. Goat cheese salad; whole plate full; also way too much. Other dishes also not very tasty. Definitely not meat. I wouldn't go back anytime soon. Pity.

When booking by telephone it seems as if everything is possible. If you come at 7:30 PM, you will hear that the kitchen closes at 9:00 PM. Instead of "unlimited" tapas, we recommend a bowl of Mezes, choice of meat, fish or combination. We take meat and fish.... We were very disappointed with the flavors. EVERYTHING tasted like it came straight out of the freezer. Only the aioli and the "extra sharp aioli" were tasty. The extra spicy sauce is normally served with patatas Bravas. Price wasn't too bad, but that doesn't mean it has to be tasteless, does it? The fact that they also have an apparently ineradicable mouse problem took the cake for me. I'm a big animal lover, but I don't need mice that visibly run around all evening...

A restaurant I wouldn't even come back to if it was free, the food here is so disgusting

Beautiful location, take your camera to take pictures of the colourful lit alleyway next to the entrance. The decor is very nice and it's very novel to be able to lie down next to the table. The place was quite cold at first but warmed a bit later on. Food was overall good without being spectacular. Service was on one hand great but another waitress looked really miserable and acted like it as well. Overall I had a very good evening here. Would recommend for couples or small groups.

The restaurant looks nice, but how horrible. The food is really not tasty. Quality is far below par. Dirty and very greasy. Everything tasted the same. Dishes definitely don't look like the picture! My girlfriend and I have been so sick. Puking, cramps, stomach ache. The prices are also very high for what you get. There are also mice walking through the store, which was treated rather lightly. While we felt that this is really not possible in a restaurant!!!! Very dirty. What a disappointment.

Nice ambiance but the food is mediocre

The atmosphere is good, nice location, but I didn't think the food was quite my thing. Strong spices and choices were too limited for a continuous tapas evening. Please note that there is no offer for children.

Loved the ambiance and location. That hot chocolate was really good. The view outside is lovely. One should come here in the evening or night. The beautiful view will blow the head off. Terrible reservations and then no place system doesn't work for a meter. Drinks from the company. Waited 15 minutes.... it turned out to be more than 1 hour.. In my opinion, reservations expire, so I walked out the door pissed off.

First of all, bad reception. Then our telephone reservation was lost ?? And the restaurant full. No excuses, no resolution. There you are with your invited friends. We left never to return.

Service is soooo bad, it just annoys you. 1 girl has to deliver everything, 2 others lounge at the bar. The tapas are piling up under the heat lamps, but no one cares. After half an hour it is still cold, but 'they just came out of the oven' not. Had to wait too long for both drinks and food. In the end I ordered the shrimp 'but they are already ready...' yes, it has been half an hour, yes, now let it sit.

Had dinner on Saturday 9/16. We found the food mediocre. The service is mediocre. Biggest irritation, dog in the restaurant where customers dine. Dogs (except guide dogs) do NOT belong in a restaurant. That says everything about this restaurant. Not recommended for us.

The atmosphere is very cozy and the tent looks nice. It's just a pity that we actually only liked the bread we got at the beginning. Dishes were lukewarm and the flavors were very disappointing. We had dinner here yesterday. We found the food very poor. We had a Mezze with meat. The meat dishes arrived cold. Said this to the waiter and we would get new hot meat, this took a long time but the (stew) meat was hard and chewy when we got a new portion. The taste of the dishes was also just not good. Worst tapas I've ever eaten. When she came to ask if we had tasted it, we also said that it was not tasty, but nothing was done about it. Last night I had severe stomach pain and felt very nauseous. Attribute this to the food I had there. It's a shame that our fun day out ended like this.

Ate here on Monday July 31. Very disappointed with the quality. Tapas are small snacks, but I think paying 7 euros for 3 shrimp is a lot. The other dishes were also greasy and relatively small. Nothing looked like the picture of the digital ordering, which was also set to 1 person and not 3. We received no explanation about the unlimited tapas food. The plate to eat from was dirty. The crockery on which the tapas were served was broken every round. Okay, the place to sit on the water is great, but even though we often visit the Winkel van Sinkel, the tapas cellar no longer sees us.

Food was mediocre, if not bad. The tapas completely lacked seasoning. Even the empanadas were bland, which... how do you mess up empanadas? And let's not even start with the Spanish "tortilla" which in the tablet menu showed a regular one but in reality we got some vegetable version with no salt. The servers were friendly for the most part, except at the end after one waitress had agreed to take two drinks off our bill (the Hugo prosseco is TERRIBLE - do *not* order!) another waitress came to try to explain to us what is in the drink (at this point it doesn't matter because the drink was absolutely undrinkable) and to charge us for it. I had to tell her 3 times that our waitress had already agreed to take it off the bill to which she responded with some attitude. The ordering with tablets part was really cool, totally a great idea, just needs better execution. This place has great potential, it's beautifully decorated and has a really nice location, I would return if the food and drinks were improved.

Friendly service and beautiful location. Food was very bad and had almost nothing to do with Spanish tapas and portions were very small. Besides, I've been sitting on the couch all day with a stomach ache. Very unfortunate because it is a well-equipped tent with a beautiful terrace. Hire a good chef to run that kitchen, preferably a Spaniard if you want to stick to tapas.

We tried to order 4 beers and something to eat, but had to use the talblets first. After three times asking we finally got the tablet. We ordered the beers on the tablet and did not have the option to order food. We asked for the tablet with food and she took away ours. Didn't come back for 10 minutes. Then she came with a new tablet which didn't have the beer order in the history. At this point we decided to leave since half an hour already passed. The waitresses brought wrong drinks to the tables and clearly were confused since they only relied on the tablets and did not think on their own. They probably hired unskilled people who just depend on the technology. Would not recommend, if they not clearly change something with the service.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 5:00 PM we took a seat on the terrace and indicated when ordering drinks that we (3 people) also wanted to eat. The kitchen opened at 5:30 PM. No problem for us. The terrace was half full at that time. First the wrong drink was offered. Then at 6 p.m. our daughter went to inquire where the placemats and menu were. A few tables around us were provided with placemats and were able to order, although these guests had arrived much later. Despite the clear hints and requests, the staff did not respond. The food: The ham and bacon were dry, salmon looked bad, like a big blur of fat. All products were soaked in oils, lettuce was limp and way too greasy. Do not eat potatoes. The flavors were very disappointing. All products just didn't seem to be fresh. We think this tapas cellar in Utrecht is the worst of all the tapas restaurants we have visited at home and abroad! We have filed our complaint. People were quite down-to-earth about it and no apology or compensation was given. The full bill was just under €94.00. At the end, the guest can give a rating on the tablet. We have also completed this with the worst rating, 1 star! Effects after eating: All three of us suffered from abdominal pain and diarrhea for several days (4). We really see this as a result of the food! In short, for us a tapas restaurant that we will never return to or recommend.

Poor service, walks around in their own clothes with an apron over them. After sitting for 10 minutes (and having a waiter walk by 7 times) we were only asked if we wanted to order something. Explanation of the menu was not really clear to us, 4 options. And if you leave something you have to pay an extra euro!! Received a receipt on which you could fill in 3 rounds, then the receipts were gone and we had to write it down.. Food was not really tasty and certainly not good value for that price! We didn't even have a desert because we really wanted to go home. We won't go back.

I'm so sorry to see other reviews stating the service was bad, as our experience last night was exactly the opposite! The service we received was wonderful, the Mezze we had would have fed four, provided samples of fabulous foods, and the meatballs were the best I've had other than my own. The Chefs were friendly (even posed for a picture) and shared some of the recipe for the meatballs. I would definitely recommend this comfy little place!

Dissatisfied with staff member's very antisocial behavior during payment. Twice a far too high amount was calculated. First 127, then 70 when it should have been 50. We had to indicate that. It's not a place where you stop in for 10 minutes. You should take time to enjoy the extraordinary ambience.
