The food was delicious, flavorful, and the portions were generous. The only downside is that the restaurant is quite noisy.

We eat at Taste of India Utrecht at least once a month. It’s always great and consistent. However, this time we noticed that the portions of butter chicken and lamb korma that we ordered were smaller than in the past. 5 small pieces of meat in each. The portions have definitely shrunk and that left us feeling somewhat disappointed.

This place probably served us the best food we’ve had in the entire Netherlands. It’s a real hidden gem. You could easily miss it when walking along the top of the canal, but it’s absolutely worth going down into the restaurant. It doesn’t look very fancy from the outside (in winter) , and that’s what makes it even more surprising once you’re inside. I think I’ve found a new favorite. If you’re reading this review, just go. Don’t overthink it. You’ll be talking about it for a long time. I still do little happy dances when I think about the meals I had there.

We really recommend the menus for 2+ people -- we had the vega one and it was a lovely experience to try so many things!! So much delicious food that I need to lie down. Average taste and very small portion sizes. Not worth the money at all. We had to opt to sit inside as outside it was full and that was the worst decision considering the summer day. It was like a oven inside and that too without a properly working fan / aircon. Even after complaining, there was no solution provided.

Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant was anything but pleasant. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a penetrating smell on the terrace that strongly reminded us of manure or worse – definitely not what you expect from a restaurant. In addition, there were constantly flies in the air, which further spoiled our appetite. The manager was sitting on the terrace when we arrived, but we were told that he was “on break” and that we had to wait – while there was no one else to help us. Very unprofessional. The virgin mojito that I ordered burned my throat and had nothing at all like a mojito. After one sip, I reported this to the manager, but he refused to do anything about it. Nevertheless, we had to pay for it. The “prawn shrimps” dish was disappointing: only three shrimps in the entire dish. For the price that was asked, that is simply not acceptable. Finally, the terrace felt bare and deserted, and there was a cold, unpleasant atmosphere inside. The restaurant looked empty and lacked atmosphere. Positive point: there was one friendly young man in the service who tried his best and clearly did not fit in with the attitude of the other staff. We sincerely advised him to find work somewhere else - he deserves better than this environment. The combination of bad service, unappetizing food, an unhygienic environment and an uninterested attitude means that we will never come back here again. A shame, because with a little effort and the right staff this could have been a much more pleasant experience.

After entering, it already took a long time before we could order something to drink (even though we were practically the only guests in the restaurant). The dishes were served in the wrong order, and several side dishes only arrived after we had already finished our main course. The quality of the food was absolutely poor, and even though the prices were low, it was not worth the money. The chicken korma tasted like tomato and came nowhere close to what it’s supposed to be. The papadums were served after the meal and were tasteless. The onion bhajis were dry pieces of chickpeas with onion. The service was far below standard, and they made absolutely no effort to respond to our questions. When asked if we had enjoyed our meal — to which we replied that we hadn’t — they didn’t react at all. They are not interested in giving their guests a pleasant experience, neither in taste nor in service. Just a major letdown.

The food was really nice, loved the naan and the curries were nice. But the service definitely felt unprofessional. We were forgotten many times, only saw a single smile, and no proactiveness whatsoever. It's also really quite expensive, 20 euros per dish. But when you go to a restaurant you go to have nice food and that they did well.

The food was amazing! Very quick to sit us down and get us eating! The people complaining about the cat are being very over dramatic. The cat approached us once. And didn’t even attempt to get to our food. The lady who served us was so polite! Food was delicious. 100% recommend.

I ate at Taste of India for the first time last Saturday. The food was not tasty, I ordered a Chicken Korma (which is supposed to be creamy everywhere) and this dish was too salty. I indicated this, but the kitchen was already closed. I also wanted to order an extra naan bread, but this was no longer possible because the kitchen was already closed. I then indicated that I wanted to cancel my dish. A little later the waiter arrived with the same Chicken Korma, with a little cooking cream on top. I tasted the dish, but this was not yet food. I then asked where my extra naan bread had gone, to which the waiter replied: “the kitchen is closed”, but in the meantime my dish has been ruined even further, which I actually didn't want anymore. I also cook (Middle Eastern) and I knew that the Korma could no longer be saved. I then had to pay for the canceled dish at checkout and the reason given was: "We did prepare the dish, so we will simply charge for that." I always order Chicken Korma or Butter Chicken in Hindustani restaurants, because I like a creamy sauce. This was the first time I had such a bad experience. I also ordered a Chana Masala and the mixed grill for the person I was eating with, but the Chana Masala was also quite salty and too strong. I hardly ate that night. The Mango Lassi was also not served cold and it was too thick so I ended up getting full from that. All in all, the service is very poor and the staff was not very attentive. Too bad for this experience. The restaurant looks nice and cozy with beautiful frames. The atmosphere was reasonable.

Ik heb afgelopen zaterdag voor het eerst bij Taste of India gegeten. Het eten was niet lekker, ik bestelde een Chicken Korma (wat overal romig hoort te zijn) en dit gerecht was te zout. Ik heb dit aangegeven, maar de keuken was reeds gesloten. Ik wilde er ook een extra naanbrood bij bestellen, maar dit was niet meer mogelijk omdat de keuken reeds was gesloten. Ik heb toen aangegeven mijn gerecht te willen annuleren. Even later kwam de ober aan met dezelfde Chicken Korma, met een beetje kookroom eroverheen. Ik heb het gerecht geproefd, maar dit was nog niet eten. Ik heb toen gevraagd waar mijn extra naanbrood is gebleven, waarop de ober antwoordde: “the kitchen is closed”, maar ondertussen is wel mijn gerecht nog verder verpest die ik eigenlijk al niet meer wilde. Ik kook zelf ook (Midden Oosters) en ik wist dat de Korma niet meer te redden was. Vervolgens heb ik bij het afrekenen het geannuleerde gerecht moeten afrekenen en de reden die werd gegeven was: “Wij hebben het gerecht wel bereid, dus wij brengen daar gewoon kosten voor in rekening.” Ik bestel altijd Chicken Korma of Butter Chicken in Hindustaanse restaurants, omdat ik van een romige sausje houd. Dit was de eerste keer dat ik zo’n nare ervaring heb gehad. Ik had ook een Chana Masala erbij besteld en de mixed grill voor de persoon met wie ik at, maar de Chana Masala was ook nogal zoutig en te machtig. Ik heb die avond haast niet gegeten. De Mango Lassi was ook niet koud geserveerd en hij was te dik, dus daar raakte ik uiteindelijk vol van. Al met al is de service heel slecht en het personeel was ook niet heel alert. Jammer voor deze ervaring. Het restaurant ziet er wel mooi knus uit met mooie lijsten. De sfeer was wel redelijk.

Unfortunately, it was only a 2-star experience. We were welcomed kindly and seated next to the Oudegracht. We ordered the vegetarian menu and two drinks. - The appetizer was skipped, and the first course was brought directly, together with the drinks. - After the first course was cleared (including one set of cutlery, but not the second), a different waiter asked whether we were ready to order. - The main course came, and we had to remind the third waiter about the skipped appetizer. - The food was fine, but overall too salty. It left us feeling bloated and thirsty. - After the main course was cleared, our table was ignored. We watched as neighboring tables were offered dessert and informed the waiter that they had also ordered the menu, which included dessert. For twenty minutes, we were left sitting. The only attention we received was when yet another waiter dropped a glass under our table. - After asking the waiter for our dessert, we were told a different selection than the one mentioned in the menu. Only after we asked about the correct desserts did the waiter confirm them. - The bill then contained two additional beers that we didn't order. Another neighboring table also had to have their bill corrected. Hopefully, they were simply missing their ordered beers. - While paying inside, the bill with the sweets was taken away from our table. The location and view along the Gracht were beautiful, and the servers were very friendly. But that's about it. It felt like the staff wasn't trained well enough and was too unorganized to handle multiple menu orders

Very tasty meal. The people are very friendly and the service is good. The food was on the table quickly. The smell upon entering is very good. Your mouth will then water. The dishes are very tasty and beautifully served. I do find the restaurant messy. There's something everywhere. Beer barrels and tables are scattered here and there. That's a shame, but it shouldn't spoil the fun. Highly recommended.

Basándonos en nuestra increíble experiencia anterior, decidimos volver a visitar Taste of India para una cena familiar. Lamentablemente, esta visita fue un marcado contraste con nuestro disfrute anterior, marcado por la inconsistencia y una experiencia profundamente decepcionante. Este flagrante descuido y desprecio por nuestra preocupación puso de manifiesto un grave lapso en su servicio al cliente y el compromiso con la calidad. Hicimos una reserva de última hora, y ahora sentimos que fue un error ir allí. Esta experiencia nos ha dejado profundamente heridos y conmocionados. La deshonestidad flagrante y la falta de preocupación genuina por la satisfacción del cliente son inaceptables. Second visit 21.07.2024: A pathetic experience. Based on my first visit, I rated Taste of India five stars and had recommended it to many of my friends and colleagues and several of whom visited. However, after my second visit, I feel obliged to revoke it. This recent experience was drastically different and deeply disappointing. Based on our previous amazing experience, we decided to revisit Taste of India for a family dinner. Unfortunately, this visit was a stark contrast to our prior enjoyment, marked by inconsistency and a deeply disappointing experience. The staff members, two polite and attentive young women, were doing their best to manage all guests efficiently. We ordered portions of paneer kadhai, aloo gobi, onion kulcha, lamb biryani, and the chef's special salmon curry. When the food was served, we found that the salmon was not cooked properly, with the inside still raw. Addressing this issue with one of the staff members, he assured us that he would replace it with a properly cooked portion. To our shock and dismay, he returned with the same salmon, albeit with the raw parts removed and the portion drastically reduced. The broken pieces we had left were evident, revealing their attempt to disguise this deceitful act. Even worse, the salmon was still raw the second time, proving that they hadn't even bothered to cook it properly. The quantity was much, much less than the original portion, making it evident that they brought the same portion excluding the parts we had already cut. What a pathetic and poisonous way to treat customers. It's disgusting to think what they did to my food. The final blow came from the main manager, who, unlike his previous attentive demeanor, failed to approach our table or inquire about our experience, despite making rounds to other guests. This blatant neglect and disregard for our concern highlighted a severe lapse in their customer service and commitment to quality. We did a last-minute booking, and now we feel it was a mistake going there. This experience has left us deeply hurt and shocked. The blatant dishonesty and lack of genuine concern for customer satisfaction are unacceptable. Based on my previous amazing experience, I had recommended Taste of India to most of my friends and colleagues, and many of them even visited. However, after this experience, I am not recommending this place anymore. Therefore, I am revoking my previous five-star rating and giving them a single star. We will ensure that we never visit this establishment again, and we will not recommend it to our friends or colleagues. First of all the flavor of the food is very good. And the cat in the restaurant is nice. Okay all the pros are here. Cons: the portion of the food is small af. If it’s smaller, then my two years old nephew can finish two mains from this restaurant by himself. And the WEIRDEST part is, they only offer one glass of water for every customer, if they don’t order drinks. They said it’s their POLICY. Respect to the unique policy. Just let yall know this: if you don’t drink alcohol or sugar stuffs, probably you need to hydrate from the toilet tap or somewhere else, which is probably the closet water source.

My friend and I visited this hyped restaurant yesterday. First good things. Has nice ambience. Staff was polite and nice except that they did not take my point that I am mentioning below about Gobhi 65. Our appetizer - Gobhi 65, was really bad. It was not even half cooked and priced at 6.5 Euro. My friend and I could not even eat 1 piece each. When I told one of the waiters I expected they would bring in the dish which was properly cooked. But they did not even bother. Very dissappointed. Shahi Paneer and Naans were tasty. So atleast we could eat that, but were sceptical to order anything else after seeing that the table next to us left a lot of food items without finishing them(more than half). So, when the start is bad, it spoils the mood. So I would think once before visiting again after this dissapointment. I hope to recieve some reaction/response on my post. Thanks anyway.

Delicious! Indian flavors are good. The chicken was great. Very pleasantly located on the water. I would definitely come back!

Food was ok, I had better (in Netherlands). Staff behaviour was casual and a little too carefree. Food portion was less. It's as if they've already given up on the restaurant and attained moksha 🙏

Quantity of food was too less compared to the price. As an indian, i also felt food taste was too bland for me. Rest all was good like service, vibe, location, drinks etc.

Dear owner of Taste of India, Utrecht restaurant kindly coach your staff on Indian hospitality first. Your staff was very rude when we had ordered a starter and confirmed with her twice. Despite of that we were served the main Course Menu of tandoori chicken Tikka and she denied that we asked her. No point arguing, we also were told that rice accompaniment with a dish cannot be substituted with roti but has to be ordered separately. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS NON POSSIBILTY IN THE MANY INDIAN RESTAURANTS I HAVE TRIED SO FAR IN THE NETHERLANDS ! It seems that the treatment for Indian origin people is discriminated.This is not what India is known for. Food taste was not Indian authentic and quantity of Balti chicken (4 pieces In a curry) is not justified for the price. Lastly Letting a cat roam around in the dining area of a restaurant is not appreciated. I sure will never recommend nor come back to this place ever!

Please change your restaurant name from “ Taste of India” to “ Waste of India” Your staff attitude towards Indian/ Indian origins is really bad . We asked you for a takeaway, you denied with answer You are very busy , I could see barely 4 tables were occupied. Your staff is not understanding how to take orders . Please train them well . When a entreé is asked , you cannot serve customer with Main course. Your food quantity and quality is a scam.

Location obviously is very unique, i would say the food tastes very unique too, unlike other indian restaurants,perhaps because the focus is on western customers. for the price you pay, the portion size could be improved in my opinion.

Food taste is good only. Quantity is quite less Most absurd thing is there is no tap water. You have to buy the water. Staff is very rude specially the girl who looks from surinam.

We had a very delicious meal in this attractive place on the Oudegracht. Small scale, fresh decor, very friendly staff. Top. We will be back!

Unfortunately very disappointed with the way the dish was made for 2 people dish royal chennai we first received a plate with 2 chicken legs there was very little meat in the food it was too salty and too spicy as far as spiciness is concerned it is not a problem because India is supposed to be spicy but it should not overpower the taste, and too salty is not good, I suggest with cooking: taste and make, taste and make before you serve it. Unfortunately one plate had more on it than the other, not very neat either so it was sent back because it was very strange it was very poorly placed on the plate I unfortunately did not enjoy eating it I unfortunately have to be a bit blunt about this because I cook better in this case and this is not the intention that as a customer I am presented with something that is worse than what I prepare. I suggest that the chefs undergo training for chef training in seasoning things and the correct way of serving. I also had to pay separately for the mango lassi, which was included in the menu, which was also very special, so you are not allowed to put it in the menu if it appears separately on the bill. Unfortunately, it is also better for people to indicate on the menu what is spicy and what is not, because this avoids miscommunications. We were not offered any sweets afterwards. We should have sat there for more than an hour to get everything put on the table. It's a shame that the service is better than having good friends. Nothing against this place, but the way of serving and cooking is clearly below the professional level and this should be the case as a restaurant, I think if a director were to do a taste test here, they would unfortunately fail.

Charming restaurant, very nice staff and delicious food. Sometimes the name of a dish is unintelligible, but the taste is always good so that's no problem! The chai with milk is very tasty, but don't drink too much because the caffeine will keep you awake.

Excellent North Indian food which is really tasty and authentic. The variety of dishes is great and both meat and vegetarian dishes were delicious. The service was very friendly as well. I would go back happily and highly recommend it !

Good experience. The food was delicious, although the spice level was really higher than what we could expected and could consume. But we loved the starters. The atmosphere is very nice.

Excellent, tasty and large portions. There is a quiet, friendly cat walking around, which could be a problem.
