We love Indian cuisine and are regulars at our favorite restaurants. When we're traveling, we like to eat Indian food, so we did in Utrecht. At Taj Mahal, we received a warm welcome in the outdoor seating area. Even our little poodle was welcome. The food—butter chicken and paneer makani—was delicious and well-seasoned. The rice served as a side dish was ample for two people. We also ordered raita and a cheese naan, which were equally tasty. The young woman who served us was incredibly friendly, and the wait wasn't long. We enjoyed our meal and will gladly return if we're ever in Utrecht again.

Ordered yesterday via Thuisbezorgd and there was a big, disgusting, unwashed fingernail in the food. Really gross. That means the food is being prepared with bare and poorly groomed hands. Surely this isn't right???? Very disturbing.

Delicious Indian food, plenty of choice, and friendly, efficient staff.

A huge selection of super tasty dishes. You can sit on the terrace with a view of the Dom. I will definitely come back here to try something else. We had Northern curry in a traditional pan and butter paneer with garlic naan. Everything was rich in flavor and super nicely spiced. The staff have been working here for a long time and are friendly and helpful.

Just popped in for a drink. Received a warm welcome even though we indicated we didn't want to eat. We were spoken to in a friendly manner and served pleasantly. Highly recommended to go back for the menu.

We ate here on Valentine's Day. There was an hour and a half between arriving and receiving the starter, which is long, but it was very busy, so I don't hold that against it too much. The food was otherwise fine. The service was also friendly, except for one person, unfortunately. When I ordered a 'Chaudfontaine Blue' (which was listed as such on the menu), the person there said a bit angrily that I should 'just say water'. I got a bit of an unpleasant feeling from that for the rest of the evening. EDIT: after 3 years, I still have an unpleasant feeling about this incident.

Ate here last week. It was a shame. I was used to better. The service was subpar. There was no communication. It took twice as long as stated. My dish was forgotten. The food was burnt. I'd eaten here twice before, and it was great. So, it was a disappointment.

A very bad experience. I ordered a mixed grill, among other things. I was told it would take half an hour because it was freshly prepared. (The rest isn't it???) After over an hour and several requests, still no food. When it finally arrived, they had forgotten one dish. I had to ask twice. No apology, only one beer was taken off the bill as compensation (nothing was said about it, by the way), and no goodbyes were said upon departure. Seriously subpar and very unfriendly. The food was good, but the mixed grill had different meats on both plates, the sausage was dry, and the vegan dish was also dry and had cheese in it!!! So, not vegan! I won't be eating here again; it's very disappointing.

This is truly the best! We love Indian food and try to eat somewhere every holiday, but we haven't found anything as good as the one in Utrecht. Delicious (garlic) naan, a lovely mint sauce. This time we opted for the fish menu: everything was delicious, though the standard was a bit spicy (if you don't like spicy food, just let us know in advance and they'll let you know which dishes aren't spicy).

After 4 years I visited Taj Mahal again, this place never disappoints with food, well seasoned and tasty, definitely recommended if you are in Utrecht.

Such an awesome experience! We booked via the website for the new year and don't have any regrets. Cosy atmosphere, the food is absolutely delicious with loads of vega options and the staff is helpful and friendly. Bonus point for the owner's cat who was the best company !

I ordered Butter chicken masala,Naan and Garlic naan, and asked them to please deliver the food warm enough since I did jot have access to a stove or microwave... the food was delivered about :" 1 Hour and 45 minutes" after I placed my order. It was delayed for nearly 1 hour. It was completely cold. And the Nan came with no quality due to being delivered too late. It was also delivered to a wrong location, and the delivery person even did not bother to wait for me.

This place is an Utrecht staple. We have been coming to Taj since the nineties. Old school, cozy and welcoming place.

Food taste is very average. I didn't find any authentic Indian taste in any of the dishes even not in mango lassie

Ordered a chicken biryani, the taste of the biryani was somewhat disappointing and the chicken pieces were dry. Ordered 2 side dishes, okra and mushrooms, both were too oily, disappointing. This is more of a restaurant for people who want to try something Indian but don't know the flavor yet and will therefore consider it tasty.

We've been coming here for about 20 years, I think. The food and service are always fantastic. A big fan of the set menus, including the Tikka Masala!

A really great restaurant. Unlike some other Indian restaurants in Utrecht, this one has a truly family-friendly atmosphere. The food is excellent. We did have to wait a bit sometimes, even though it wasn't very busy. We'll definitely be back.

We had an incredibly delicious meal at Taj Mahal! The three of us had the Taj Mahal menu and butter chicken. We enjoyed all the delicious flavors. The service was friendly and fast. The cocktails are also highly recommended; affordable and delicious. We could barely manage dessert. So we all went home with full bellies, and all for a reasonable price. Definitely worth repeating!

I ate here yesterday. Very hospitable and friendly. I liked the taste of the food itself (nicely seasoned). However, I found it burnt in some places (black) due to the oven cooking. I also found the amount of food a bit meager (we had a set menu for two) compared to the price.

I've been coming here since the '90s. And for good reason. It's a fantastic restaurant!

Just ordered food from here. I've ordered from here before, and everything was fine then. The food is fine again this time, especially for the price. The delivery driver told me I could grab my food in the elevator; he didn't feel like coming up. I'm chronically fatigued and had an episode today where getting up is incredibly difficult. That's why I decided to order in so I wouldn't have to cook and stand for a long time. But there was no talking to anyone. Plus, it's not nice to know that anyone in my apartment could have grabbed my food. A truly unfriendly and rude delivery driver.

Never received my order; it's been three hours since I placed it. I called the restaurant an hour ago, and they said it was almost here. Absolutely awful.

Great restaurant, good food, and pleasant service! The only annoying thing was that the four reserved seats weren't available at the agreed-upon time of 6:30 PM, so we had to wait outside for a while. We saw this happen to other guests as well, so double-check your reservation on the day itself. Otherwise, very satisfied.

I’m so mad, i’ve ordered like a hundred times from them and EVERYTIME they forget something. In the beginning i always called them but theyre difficult to talk to on the phone so now i just accept it. I should order somewhere else but theyre the only place tasty papadums. Also one day the same dish is spicy, the other day sweet, what’s up with that?

We had a wonderful evening. But it's not an authentic Indian restaurant. The naan bread was disappointing; it wasn't fluffy or soft, and the spiciness was tailored to Dutch people (we had to specifically request it). But the service was truly top-notch. It was cozy and had a great atmosphere. That alone would make me want to come back.

We've been coming here for 34 years. The food remains good, the staff remains friendly, and the atmosphere is still great. We hope to continue enjoying this fantastic restaurant for many years to come.

We ordered extra bread, but in retrospect, it wasn't really necessary. The price-quality ratio is also very good. There were people next to us who were forgotten, so they didn't get their food until we were finished, with profuse apologies. Oh well, things happen. The restaurant's decor is also excellent. There are two restrooms, and they're clean. A great place with friendly staff.

The best Indian restaurant in Utrecht. Authentic food, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Tikka massala is rich and sweet, tandoori garlic chicken is tender and spicy, king prawns are well cooked. And mango lassi is THE drink. ENJOY!!!

Honestly, it’s a must-go in Utrecht! Everything was fresh, halal, tasty and they don’t make you pay extra for the rice! It’s included in every curry and it’s not the case in every Indian restaurant I’ve been to. The chicken biryani was delicious and the mango lassi had a bit of cardamom in it which was a first time for me. 10/10 would recommend! And we’ll come back for sure.

Perfect Indian Food! I love Indian cuisine and whatever city i visit, i always search for Indian restaurants. On the first evening, i found the taj mahal and what can i say? I stuck to it. I had 4 evenings without a planned dinner and so i visited them on all 4 evenings! Remarkable Food, served fast and friendly. Located in the old Center. I will return!

I am an Indian food lover and this was one of the worst Indian food I had. Dal was watery and tasteless. tandoori chicken was dry and lacked flavour. Nan was ultra dry. I do not recommend!

Terrible Experience This was easily the worst Indian restaurant I’ve been to in the Netherlands. The food was completely tasteless—especially the biryani, which was beyond disappointing. The service was unprofessional and far from welcoming. Despite mentioning that we would share appetizers, they arrived without plates. Our table was cleared without asking if we were done, and no one bothered to check how the meal was. We had informed them in advance about a birthday celebration, yet no acknowledgment was made. In the end, we chose to celebrate elsewhere. Definitely not recommended!
