Taj Mahal in Wijk 06 Binnenstad

Ordered a chicken biryani, the taste of the biryani was somewhat disappointing and the chicken pieces were dry. Ordered 2 side dishes, okra and mushrooms, both were too oily, disappointing. This is more of a restaurant for people who want to try something Indian but don't know the flavor yet and will therefore consider it tasty.

We've been coming here for about 20 years, I think. The food and service are always fantastic. A big fan of the set menus, including the Tikka Masala!

A really great restaurant. Unlike some other Indian restaurants in Utrecht, this one has a truly family-friendly atmosphere. The food is excellent. We did have to wait a bit sometimes, even though it wasn't very busy. We'll definitely be back.

We had an incredibly delicious meal at Taj Mahal! The three of us had the Taj Mahal menu and butter chicken. We enjoyed all the delicious flavors. The service was friendly and fast. The cocktails are also highly recommended; affordable and delicious. We could barely manage dessert. So we all went home with full bellies, and all for a reasonable price. Definitely worth repeating!

I live in Amsterdam, but this is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Netherlands. Each time I am in Utrecht I end up having a dinner there.

I ate here yesterday. Very hospitable and friendly. I liked the taste of the food itself (nicely seasoned). However, I found it burnt in some places (black) due to the oven cooking. I also found the amount of food a bit meager (we had a set menu for two) compared to the price.

Just ordered food from here. I've ordered from here before, and everything was fine then. The food is fine again this time, especially for the price. The delivery driver told me I could grab my food in the elevator; he didn't feel like coming up. I'm chronically fatigued and had an episode today where getting up is incredibly difficult. That's why I decided to order in so I wouldn't have to cook and stand for a long time. But there was no talking to anyone. Plus, it's not nice to know that anyone in my apartment could have grabbed my food. A truly unfriendly and rude delivery driver.

Never received my order; it's been three hours since I placed it. I called the restaurant an hour ago, and they said it was almost here. Absolutely awful.

Great restaurant, good food, and pleasant service! The only annoying thing was that the four reserved seats weren't available at the agreed-upon time of 6:30 PM, so we had to wait outside for a while. We saw this happen to other guests as well, so double-check your reservation on the day itself. Otherwise, very satisfied.

I’m so mad, i’ve ordered like a hundred times from them and EVERYTIME they forget something. In the beginning i always called them but theyre difficult to talk to on the phone so now i just accept it. I should order somewhere else but theyre the only place tasty papadums. Also one day the same dish is spicy, the other day sweet, what’s up with that?

We had a wonderful meal for two tonight. Atmospheric Indian restaurant in the center of Utrecht. We enjoyed the dishes and side dishes. The portions were more than ample. We felt very welcome; there was plenty of time, even though it was pleasantly busy. All the staff were super friendly and attentive. In short: a fantastic evening and highly recommended!

We had a wonderful evening. But it's not an authentic Indian restaurant. The naan bread was disappointing; it wasn't fluffy or soft, and the spiciness was tailored to Dutch people (we had to specifically request it). But the service was truly top-notch. It was cozy and had a great atmosphere. That alone would make me want to come back.

We've been coming here for 34 years. The food remains good, the staff remains friendly, and the atmosphere is still great. We hope to continue enjoying this fantastic restaurant for many years to come.

We (mother and daughter) ordered three appetizers to share, but it was far too spicy for us... we couldn't stomach it. As compensation, they offered us a milder dish at their expense, which was delicious! What great service, compliments!

The food was delicious. There was a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Plenty of choice. The staff were also very hospitable. Large portions, too. We ordered extra bread, but in retrospect, it wasn't really necessary. The price-quality ratio is also very good. There were people next to us who were forgotten, so they didn't get their food until we were finished, with profuse apologies. Oh well, things happen. The restaurant's decor is also excellent. There are two restrooms, and they're clean. A great place with friendly staff.

We had to wait 2.5 hours for our food. Cold curry for 50 euros. I understand it takes longer on a Sunday; but when we called back, we didn't even get an apology, just a "it's busy." Never again.

The best Indian restaurant in Utrecht. Authentic food, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Tikka massala is rich and sweet, tandoori garlic chicken is tender and spicy, king prawns are well cooked. And mango lassi is THE drink. ENJOY!!!

Honestly, it’s a must-go in Utrecht! Everything was fresh, halal, tasty and they don’t make you pay extra for the rice! It’s included in every curry and it’s not the case in every Indian restaurant I’ve been to. The chicken biryani was delicious and the mango lassi had a bit of cardamom in it which was a first time for me. 10/10 would recommend! And we’ll come back for sure.

Perfect Indian Food! I love Indian cuisine and whatever city i visit, i always search for Indian restaurants. On the first evening, i found the taj mahal and what can i say? I stuck to it. I had 4 evenings without a planned dinner and so i visited them on all 4 evenings! Remarkable Food, served fast and friendly. Located in the old Center. I will return!

I am an Indian food lover and this was one of the worst Indian food I had. Dal was watery and tasteless. tandoori chicken was dry and lacked flavour. Nan was ultra dry. I do not recommend!

Terrible Experience This was easily the worst Indian restaurant I’ve been to in the Netherlands. The food was completely tasteless—especially the biryani, which was beyond disappointing. The service was unprofessional and far from welcoming. Despite mentioning that we would share appetizers, they arrived without plates. Our table was cleared without asking if we were done, and no one bothered to check how the meal was. We had informed them in advance about a birthday celebration, yet no acknowledgment was made. In the end, we chose to celebrate elsewhere. Definitely not recommended!

We weren’t served at first, and when the drinks and later the plates finally arrived, the waitress spilled my entire Coke all over my leg. No apology, just a napkin to dry both the table and my soaked pants. The table remained completely flooded. No replacement drink was offered. When I asked if she could at least wipe the table, she just snapped, “You can just change tables.” Never again – I’ve never experienced such rude and terrible service.

Food- The food was far from decent. Everything was served lukewarm, and the flavors were completely off: either too bland or overwhelmingly spicy, making it quite unpleasant. We got raw and smelly chicken in biryani which was just less than warm. The curries were just lukewarm. Service- The seating is so congested that even the staff struggles to move around in the limited space. They have crammed in more tables than the area can comfortably accommodate, making the service rushed and impersonal. The staff seems more focused on getting orders in and customers out rather than providing a good dining experience. If you have any complaints about the food, you might as well be talking to a wall, highly unprofessional service. Atmosphere- The place is extremely congested, with very little space between tables. It’s almost impossible to pull out or push in your chair without disturbing the guests at the next table.

If you are looking for authentic Indian food, you will be disappointed. The ambience is good but the food is anything but Indian.

We had around 4-5 servers busy themselves with our table throughout the night, but they didn't coordinate with each other. So sometimes things were forgotten, other times things were asked 3 times in a row. They were friendly, so that's not a problem. Many of them don't speak or understand Dutch though, so if that's an issue for you, be aware. The food was nicely flavored, but served lukewarm. Including the naan bread. This was quite unfortunate. It's been this way the past 3 times, so I can't say it's a coincidence anymore.

Unfortunately this was very disappointing... it took a very long time, unlike the tables around us it seemed. When we mentioned this they seemed more insulted than helpful. Meager portions, mixed vegetables, a bowl of sauce with peas and a few potatoes. Expensive for what was offered. Unfortunately, you won't see me here again anytime soon...

This evening dined with my wife there. We enjoyed our time. Very very friendly staff. It was crowded but we could have a table for two. We enjoyed the food. This was our first time there and we shall come back again. We had asked for a quite place but we couldn't get one because today is Saturday and this day is a very busy one. I mentioned that in a notice while online booking two days ago.

I visited the restaurant with colleagues. They like Indian tea a lot, and we politely asked the waiter if we can just have tea with snacks to which he replied with derogatory words, belittling us along with phrases like “this is not a hotel” and “you don’t deserve to be here”. We find it weird and took the matter with the management but they also took no action against it. Rude and unprofessional behaviour, totally not recommended.

Food was very tasty here, we did have to wait a little longer for ordering and also for food delivery than expected. But that shouldn't spoil the fun. Otherwise a nice place to try something different type of food!

Horrible service. I called for a reservation at 1920 for the same day and I was so happy they confirmed for 20:00. Arriving at the location at 20:05 it felt a bit odd, the location was full and we were told by the host that although we reserved there were no spots available. We were not even allowed to wait inside and a spot was offered at the wet terraces, please note it’s about 5C in November in the Netherlands… I called them for an explanation later and they told me this is not what service they want to deliver, and promised me to reach out and find a solution. If they reach out I will remove this review!!
