Surya Utrecht Indiaas & Nepalees restaurant & bar in Wijk 06 Binnenstad

Delicious food, something for everyone, including vegans, in a great atmosphere with prompt and friendly service, top-notch!

We are fans of Indian kitchen and we are impressed how original the food is at this restaurant. Even our friends from India made the statement that this is the best food they had outside India - is their any better compliment. And next to the food the young team is very friendly, professional and supportive. We come back !!

Bobby thank you, had an amazing experience. Very good food. Excellent service, again thanks to Bobby who served us.

Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was top-notch and the service too! Compliments to Bobby, Solomeia, and Kiara :)

Customer-friendly, sincere, and helpful. Last but not least: the food is top-notch! Bobby, thank you! Thanks to you, we were able to enjoy a delicious dinner outside.

We really enjoyed our time at Surya. Both the food and the atmosphere. Thanks Bobby!!

Lorenzo has the best service ever!!

Delicious food, a lovely atmosphere, friendly service, and great conversations about Barbarossa.

Great food!! And especially a great atmosphere among the staff, had a good laugh with Lorenzo and Bobbie :) If we ever go to Utrecht again, they will definitely see us back!

We had a delicious meal with very good and friendly service from Bobbie!

I always come here for the tastiest butter chicken, besides the other delicious dishes of course. I'm a huge fan of Bobby, always cheerful and helpful!!

Super delicious food and friendly service It is always tasty and cozy

Surya worlds best Indian Restaurant in Utrecht. Amazing food & excellent service team…

We had been here a few years ago and decided to go again on a rather late Sunday evening. We were greeted super friendly, service was quick and kind. The food is superb! The cultural mix makes it distinct from other indian places and most importantly, it is actually spicy, uncommon for NL. The sharing platter offered fish, meat, spinach, potato in differen variants - just delicious! An extra shout out to Mika and Bobby (I hope I remember that right), our friendly servers with whom we had a quick chat on the way out.

Since I am Nepali and from Kathmandu, the taste was almost the same (masala wala/spicy momo). Momo was served little crispy from outside as they had used microwave to reheat them. So this is my suggestion to the kitchen team not to use microwave as they harden the skin (wrappers), and also the stuff was powdery, I think they use soya chunks. 8 euros for 5 pcs momo I think is reasonable.

Had a delicious meal. Generous portions. The restaurant has a modern look, so it is not a traditional Indian restaurant. I have eaten here several times and it is always good.

Great food, very welcoming staff, in a nice square. If you want to eat the best indian food, this is the right place. Highly recommended

Always the best experience! The waiters are so nice and welcoming, and the food and cocktails are fantastic. Great atmosphere both inside and outside on the terrace. Definitely recommend!

Welcoming place, friendly and very professional staff, delicious food, excellent value! If you're passing through Utrecht, you absolutely must stop at Surya!

Always a wonderful time and amazing food, service just nails it everytime!

Perfect food, exceptionally friendly staff, great location, beautiful interior, and a nice terrace!

Friendly staff, good service, delicious food, and generous portions. Highly recommended!

Super yummy and lots of vegan options, which was great! I came twice during my trip and got the chana masala and the veg chicken curries, as well as the samosas - all were really tasty

Dal bhat was good. Momo were okay. The samosha chat was also good. Perhaps, a bit on expensive side. So, only 4 stars for food. Was good, would go there again.

As an Indian dish, it's certainly not bad, but there's absolutely nothing Nepalese about it. The momos weren't momos, there's no dal bhat, and practically all the dishes are Indian. Too bad.

Very friendly and efficient service; had a delicious meal

Fantastically delicious food, every time. In Utrecht, the food is just as good as at Surya Hilversum.

The atmosphere inside is incredibly good (very relaxing and comfortable). Additionally, I enjoyed the delicious food and friendly service with friends!

Very tasty Indian place in utrecht! We visited on a Saturday night and we were very happy with the food. We had the spinach momos and mushrooms tikka for starters which were not great (especially the mushrooms, they were too sour). But the main dishes were amazing: tandoori chicken tikka, chicken biryani, chicken korme and chicken tikka masala. We also added two naans... The portions were big and very tasty. Highly recommended if you are around Utrecht and fancy Indian food 😊

We had a great meal at Surya. The atmosphere on the terrace was also amazing. Super food.

Lovely place to eat! Food was great and staff was very friendly. Would definitely come back here

No value for the money anymore. Very overpriced for what you actually get. It has clearly become more expensive while the quality and overall experience have gone down. The restaurant was almost empty during the evening, which honestly already says a lot. The atmosphere inside was not pleasant either, as there was a noticeable smell of cigarette smoke. The food itself was far too salty. Overall, disappointing experience and definitely not worth the current prices.

Good Food (although a bit expensive/worth the price). cheese naan recommendable :)

I have not been in Nepal or India, however I think the food is authentic. I had some delicious lamb momo and mango lassi. First I thought the portion size is a bit small, but after eating it turned out to be more than enough. Also very polite staff, and the wait time for the food was okay. Zero complaints and I will return.

Its always a good sign when the waiter warns you the momo sauce is spicy and it actually is. Curries were deliciously flavoured, waiters were friendly and the mocktails were really well balanced. Portions were a bit small tho and the naan bread was depressingly tiny/unpillowy. tasty, but not what I was envisioning.

Recently visited Surya and absolutely loved the hot chicken wings, momos, and mixed grill platter. Everything tasted authentic, just as you’d expect from a traditional tandoor. Definitely recommend it-the staff are polite and welcoming as well.

Good food, nice atmosphere. Definitely the perfect place for a date. The food is good, service is as well. Good large assortment of Indian and Nepalese food. 4th time I've visited and I definitely will in the future as well!

Always good and always tasty, the staff are very pleasant and polite. I love this place!

The food was truly delicious, with super friendly staff and fast service. We will be back soon, thanks!

Came here for dinner with my girlfriend just after 21:00 on a weeknight, so not too busy The inside of the place is really nice, we were welcomed kindly to the upstairs section, so we went up and saw nicely lit seating and a lovely water feature on the wall. The staff were all really nice. Timely, respectful, and pleasant. The food was delicious, I’ve had better, but really no complaints. I had the tandoori garlic chicken, and my girlfriend had the saag paneer. Mine was good chicken seasoned well, not an incredibly deep flavour but very nice. The saag paneer was also really good, and of course the naan etc. all at the level you’d want. We had a nice evening at Surya for sure!

Another positive experience at Surya in Utrecht. We've been coming here regularly for years, thanks to the warm welcome, friendly staff, and delicious dishes. Yesterday, we both had the Surwa lentil soup, just the right amount of heat. For the main course, we had the Lemon curry (Indian) and the Gurkha curry (Nepalese), both with chicken. The masala chai and garlic naan rounded it all out. However, there was one clear drawback: the restroom is absolutely filthy. That's why we're giving it four stars, not five.

First of all, the food was delicious. But Bobby also helped us tremendously when I accidentally ordered food from Amsterdam instead of Utrecht. It was ready within 5 minutes. No extra charge, and we even got two extra Lassies for the wait. Really great. Thanks! And again, the food was delicious too!

Very good Indian food. Service can be a bit chaotic at times.

Dont waste your time ordering for home delivery. Never sticks to stated delivery times. Said would be 50 minutes. It has taken 2 hours

Love the food here. It's really delicious and so much choice!

DUTCH BELOW: A friend and I arrived at Surya yesterday shortly after opening time. We come here often and have never had a negative experience until now. Upon entering, a man with little to no hair on his head asked whether we had a reservation. We didn't. He told us there was no availability until 6:30 PM. The entire restaurant was empty, except for a few guests. We then walked outside, and I checked the website to see if there really was no availability. It felt to us as if he did not want to serve us. We were wearing headscarves. On the website, all time slots were available. I then made a reservation for 5:00 PM. We walked back inside, and he checked the system to see if we had a reservation. Suddenly, we were allowed in. I asked him why we had been refused earlier, and he said that his system showed the restaurant would be full (which was not visible at all). I showed him my phone so he could see that all time slots were indeed available. The man appeared nervous, started stuttering, and didn't seem to know how to react. He led us to our table and walked away. This really shocked me, and this is not the level of service we're normally used to at Surya. Very disappointing. The rest of the staff was friendly, and the food was good. ————————- A friend and I arrived at Surya yesterday just after opening time. We come here often and have never had a bad experience so far. The food was lovely, but one of our wines wasn't cold enough (and after giving it back it returned with a cold glass but the wine was still not cold enough) and the seats in the back were rather cold.

Delicious food, friendly staff, good atmosphere, recommended.

This was my first time going to an Indian restaurant and I really enjoyed it. I had the lamb momos as a starter, which tasted great and was really filling and then had butter chicken with garlic naan. The portions were big and everything looked and tasted really good! I would definitely come here again.

I've been coming to Surya for years, and we've made many of our friends addicted to it. The food is really good, and when we recently asked if the curry madras could be a bit spicier, they were happy to oblige. (We took it back to the kitchen and got it back exactly to our liking.) The butter chicken is and remains amazingly flavorful. You won't be able to recreate it like that at home. The service is always friendly, too. Go there!!

The food was delicious. A soup starter with garlic naan. The main course was butter chicken. Deliciously tender and generous portions. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that it was a bit too dark inside.

Super fun restaurant with delicious food! A big fan of the butter chicken! I come here often and love it; the atmosphere is always great!

The food was delicious. Inside, it was dark and cozy. They had placed us right under the box, but when we asked if the music could be turned down, they happily accommodated us. The service was very friendly and welcoming throughout the evening. Everyone greeted us when we left. The food was so delicious that we had stomach aches halfway through our plate. There were plenty of vegetarian options. I had the dumplings with cheese and tomato sauce, which were very tender. The sauce was a bit spicy, but not too much. The naan was homemade and very thin and soft. My girlfriend had the vegetarian butter chicken, which tasted wonderfully sweet. However, the vegetarian chicken pieces were quite large and had a very strong flavor. Very satisfied with the evening.

A cozy restaurant with excellent food and good service. And flexibility with reservations. However, the tables are very close together, which reduces the feeling of privacy.

Delicious Indian food here. Everything was truly delicious. Lots of choices, something for every taste! Highly recommended!

We had the shared menu and the food was absolutely delicious. The staff was super kind and attentive. We didn’t even have to ask to take the leftovers home, they offered right away to pack it up for us. The restaurant is also in a really cozy location. We’ll definitely be back!

Very sad to see standards drop. This used to be a 5 star place hands down a few years ago. I visited after a gap of 2 years or so, and I left disheartened. Food is now just ok.

Good food and friendly staff, always important🙂

We had a DELICIOUS meal! We sat on the terrace, it was lovely and the outdoor area was lovely and inviting. The interior looks beautiful too. The food was delicious and there was so much choice. We received a friendly welcome and the staff took great care of us. They explained all the dishes. I'll definitely be back!

Delicious food outside at the Janskerkhof

Delicious & a lot of vegan options!

This was some of the best Indian food we've ever had. The food was delicious and the staff was wonderful too!

Lovely place lovely food mocktails and service! Definitely adding it to my list of favorite restaurants

I have had the pleasure of dining at Surya before. That was in Amsterdam at the time. Our visit to Utrecht was the first and certainly not the last time. The food was delicious, well-prepared and a tasteful compliment to Indian food.

As always: - Good food according our special diet request - Pleasant and class environment - Very nice and helpful staff

Walked in on a Friday night without any preparation. This turned out to be a pleasant evening in a charming restaurant with friendly staff. We had a shared dinner for 2 and were pleasantly surprised with delicious food, something different and a taste sensation. All in all a good choice! I can definitely recommend this restaurant.

The best butter chicken I've ever eaten!

Recommended for neurodivergent people, nice and dark inside and there is a waterfall on the wall, very cute. Also many vegetarian and vegan options, very nice. Super friendly staff and the food was in front of us very quickly.

I have been eating here for years, the butter chicken remains my favorite! Definitely recommended!! Service also very attentive and fast! Only tip I can give is that they can do something about the seating arrangement perhaps? For the rest completely satisfied!

Great food. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, nice and quiet. But on a beautiful summer evening you can sit here wonderfully in the middle of the center of Utrecht you are good.

If you want to feel a Nepal experience this is not the right place. The food (dal bhat tarkari) was tasty, the quantity ok (but certainly not generous), the price on the high side. The restaurant is nicely decorated, comfortable, cozy - but does not remind me of Nepal at all. You do not feel a connection with the specific cuisine - it could have been an Italian restaurant. You do not encounter any Nepalese in the service, and everyone only spoke English. There was hardly any contact. After our plates were cleared we did not see the service (literally) anymore, while we were still sitting there for a long time. No question if we wanted anything else, dessert, coffee, more drinks...? In short; ok, but not special, and then especially the service and the atmosphere. Too bad!

An attractive tent in itself. Service was nice and very fast. But the food was average. Just tasted great, but lacked some depth and some pieces of meat were dry. Starter was also a lot of (fairly dry) chunks of meat with a standard sweet chili sauce. For authentic Indian I expect some more deep flavors. Portions were very generous.

Had a good meal at Surya. Service was friendly. I will definitely come back here again.

Nice Indian restaurant in Utrecht. Tasty food

Really nice. Only minor criticism in that the bathroom hand dryer wasn’t working. Other than, damn good portions can’t lie.

Some of the best Indian food we have had. Delicious samosa, butter chicken and vegetable Korma. And Hendricks G&T with cucumber!

Excellent Indian and Nepalese food. A large selection of dishes. We had the lamb Momo Surya, the chicken Keema Mutter and the Balti chicken and all three were very tasty. The cheese naans were among the best we've tasted : not too crispy, very buttery. The staff was very nice, discreet and efficient. We had a fantastic evening. Thanks.

Beautiful interior, super friendly staff, delicious food!

Ambiance was good Service was good Food it ok ok

Very tasty, large portions (whatever you don't eat will be packed for you if you ask), friendly, patient service and a calm, cozy atmosphere.

The service was great, real lovely people. Nice atmosphere and good food. The price was on the high end

I was there on a Friday evening; almost all the tables were taken. But the service was still very fast. I had a very large portion of tandoori chicken tikka.

Super tasty food and great service. Due to my faith, I wanted to pray quickly and the staff was very helpful in finding a place where I could do it quickly. I normally never tip, but I liked the service and help so much that I did it here. Highly recommended 🩷

..a very good experience, whit good food and a nice atmosfere🍀

Very tasty food, especially the cheesy garlic naan is highly recommended

Amazing food! Deserves a much higher ranking!!

I would have given more stars if that were in any way possible. This Indian restaurant - a staple of Utrecht's diverse cuisine - offers the most delicious sweet, savory, mild and spcicy dishes. The quality of the food is always consistently top notch - we always order either a chicken korma or butter chicken, and a lamb vindaloo. I also had a great mocktail, and we finished with the best lava cake (recommended by the manager). Love this place.

Delicious food, very good service, well thought out so that the group could try a variety of dishes (not the standard multi-course menus).

Cozy place and delicious food, a good wine selection also. It was only a bit cold inside

Unfortunately it was very cold there, which made us feel uncomfortable. And the food we had chosen, which was not supposed to be spicy, was spicy afterwards. Like the lentil soup and the samosas. But the food was tasty and the employees really did their best.

I was there with a friend, it is attractively decorated, we ate honestly and deliciously, were served well and friendly and had a pleasant evening. I will definitely go there more often.

Wow wow WOWWW! I think the best butter chicken I’ve ever had ✨ and the portions were just right! Felt full after the meal. Highly recommended Surya. Also lots of good vegan/vegetarian options. €22.50 pp with 2 curries, rice and momos for starter.

Would have given more than 3 stars if it were almost impossible for the disabled to enter let alone visit the toilet (steep stairs with only one handrail) Food was also good, ditto for service.

Delicious Indian food - curries, naan and starters and mango lassi, everything was great! But I want to talk about their service, which has always been amazing. My friend loves Surya and for his birthday I asked the staff if they could make a Jake's Special menu which had his usual order of onion bhaji, lamb rogan josh, peshwari naan and mango lassi. And they did it. Even yesterday I had to book a table for 11 people and it was kind of last minute, so I sent them an email and they're response was quick. We managed to get a table. The food yesterday was so good! Great place to introduce Indian food to people who haven't had it ever.

Friendly staff, although we made a reservation we were asked to find a table ourselves, and take a seat. I expected more flavour, sadly the food was a bit salty, these things happen and that also can be my luck during my visit. I hope my next visit will be better. I suggest putting a reservation sign on the table and taking the customers to their table, it's nice. Smakelijk eten 🥵

I love Surya! Cozy, elegant, and stylish with delicious food. I love their paneer tikka (starter) and butter chicken (main) together with some tasty naan. The cocktails are great too. Prices are fair, and the staff are friendly. Highly recommend!

Nicely decorated restaurant. It is a bit darker inside, but it has a cozy atmosphere. There was a light on the table that you could turn around to order, which was very handy. The food came quite quickly and was very tasty!

Rating based on a first impression (as a participant in a large group).

It was my birthday first visit on this restaurant, and i got birthday surprise, everything is nice there. Anyway thanks to everyone 🙏🏾

Unfortunately... the times we ate with you were wonderful. But yesterday was a bit of a dump...the chicken soup was cold...no egg in it...then the interval from starter to main course was really too long. ..although we had a great time, people who arrived much later than us were served earlier. And then the main course again, the same problem, not quite cold... of course everyone's taste in heat differs... but normally the pan in which it is served is nice and warm and the curries, even the fried shrimp, were cold. ..well cold cold...The delicious carlic bread...fat..🙈 we didn't have any more dessert because we didn't feel like waiting that long again! ..And we weren't really warmed up by the meal, nor by the flavors. Probably too busy or the cook sick or stress whatever, but just a shame because it was especially for my partner's birthday! And don't forget the trip to Zeeland, Utrecht...well we did that anyway,,well,, but just a shame! We didn't say anything but left out the tip and left a little early. The girl at the counter looked a bit disappointed. We also didn't feel like telling the whole story in English...so we packed up and left...again, a shame Surya Utrecht..!!
