Thai Restaurant Sawaddee Ka in Vondelbuurt

I have been there twice now and will return for sure! Both times, the service was kind and quick. And the food is delicious and tastes authentic.

Amazing! The best Thai food I've ever had! The service was great and the portions are big. The food was very good, easily one of the best Thai meals I've ever had! The portions are generous and the service is good.

On Overtoom, five minutes from Leidseplein, small and unpretentious and consistently good. We've been to Khao Hom in Nerja earlier in our travels and set that as the bar. Sawaddee Ka holds its own. We had the Massaman beef curry, pad thai, spring rolls, and fish cakes. The Massaman arrived in a traditional metal bowl, coconut-rich and slow-tasting, the peanuts and onion doing what they should alongside tender beef. The pad thai was well-executed, the noodles had good texture, earthy from the mushrooms, bright from the lime. The spring rolls and fish cakes came out crisp and fresh, the kind of starters that disappear before the mains arrive. All generous portions. Prices are reasonable for Amsterdam. Staff were friendly. The room is small and warm in the way a neighbourhood place that has been around a long time tends to be.

The food was delicious and the service very friendly.

The food was reasonable, also considering the price, although the drinks were on the expensive side. There were many vegetarian options. However, we had to wait 45 minutes for the starter and then another 45 minutes for the main course. They had forgotten about us, because when we asked for it, it was ready within 5 minutes. Furthermore, we were bothered by the smell of smoke coming inside.

Fantastic place. I’ve been here about 4 times now and each has been stellar. Great stir fries, salads and curries. Red Curry is the best…and I just got back from Thailand. This is the place!

The food here is delicious but the speed of the service is SO poor. We waited 90 mins for our mains and had to chase 3 times which means we were so hungry by the time it came. Many others walked out. Shame as the food really was good when it arrived.

We ate at this restaurant twice during our visit to Amsterdam. The food was excellent, the portions were generous, and the service was very friendly. Had we stayed longer, we would have visited the restaurant again.

Picked up delicious food again today

This is a cute unassuming family-run restaurant. The portion size is very generous. The tum yum soup is delicious. The duck dishes are also delicious. Service is friendly and polite. They do a lot of delivery and takeout. I’m glad that the dishes are not too sweet so I would say they’re quite authentic, but perhaps not as spicy as what you find in Thailand.

+ The food was excellent. + The service was good, the people were friendly. - Once you've finished eating, they make you wait a very long time to clear the table.

Great authentic Thai food and lovely people. Almost all dishes have a vegetarian option. I didn’t think I can handle such a huge portion by myself, but it was so delicious that I just couldn’t stop eating.

The food was delicious! The stir-fried noodles with soy sauce and the papaya salad were especially tasty. The owner was so kind; I called to ask for spoons and forks and they gave them to me. I'll definitely go back to the restaurant when I have the chance. 😇

Food portion is big and good value for money. Mango sticky rice is delicious! Fried rice with pork has plenty of vegetables and mildly seasoned. Only a disappointment was the Thai milk tea is the canned ones, which I expected something else.

Excellent Thai food! Lots of choices, decently priced, so flavourful and efficient service. Will definitely be back! Removed 1 star. Food is still excellent, same great taste and quality but I was there on August 23 - and the wait staff - only 2 ladies - were overwhelmed, didn’t understand clear requests and were very slow. So slow that we ended up asking for our food to-go! Something was definitely off! Short staffed? Same chef but new owners/management? Either way, it was very disappointing.

The food was some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. The mushroom sauce for vegans and vegetarians was delicious. I would absolutely return on another trip.

A very nice restaurant. It feels very authentic and cozy. The atmosphere was quiet, which I always find very pleasant when dining. The lady was extremely friendly, the service was good, and the food was fresh and beautifully presented. Highly recommended if you want good food away from the hustle and bustle of the city center.

Real authentic Thai, delicious food great flavors, large portions and fair prices

Stumbled on this spot while out walking and ended up returning several times and sharing it with others too given it was so nourishing in the ways I needed most. If it’s a cold evening, the soups would be perfect and warm you through & through. Good service too.

Great food, generous portions. Staff friendly and good service. Google maps showed only available reservations from 1900hrs but we walked in at 1730hrs and plenty of availability. Would recommend.

The coconut soup with chicken on the menu as a starter: I don't say delicious quickly, but ..... 10+. The rest also tasted fine as usual. Never had to wait for a place there either by the way.

The restaurant was packed when we walked past and the interior was decorated with pictures of Bangkok landmarks and the Thai king, so we had high hopes of the food. After all it’s run by the Thais who are proud of their cuisine. What a disappointment when we took our first bite. We ordered the Tom yam soup chicken as a starter and it tasted only of salt, none of the Thai herbs like lemongrass, kaffir lime. Just salt and water. Similarly the masaman curry and green curry tasted only of salt and none of the Thai herbs or seasoning. It was as if they boiled a packet of instant curry seasoning (which I thought a Thai chef would be embarrassed to ever do). I’m starting to wonder why the other reviews rate this place so highly? Perhaps they’ve never had authentic Thai food? Portions was decent, tap water is chargeable. Price was reasonable, slightly cheaper than other restaurants.

Small Thai restaurant with two tables outside on the street. We like this. Fast attentive service. Very good value for money for Amsterdam. You have to like the ambience on the street. We can't judge the inside. Food is worth the money. Relatively authentic. Great soups. We can recommend it without reservation. Feel free to try it out. There are much worse places.

It was the best Thai food I've had in Europe. The tom yum goong in particular was delicious, and I felt that the taste of the tom yum goong here had an original taste that I thought could only be eaten here. I would definitely like to go eat there again.

We discovered this cozy little restaurant during a walk from our hotel to the city. Though it’s not very large, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are incredibly welcoming. Having visited many Thai restaurants, I can confidently say this place ranks in my top five. The food was exceptional, full of flavor, with the perfect balance of spice and texture. If you enjoy authentic, spicy Thai cuisine, this is the spot for you, as they don’t hold back on delivering bold flavors. I look forward to dining here again on my next visit to Amsterdam.

Great find, fantastic Thai food

Never thought I’d eat such authentic Thai street food in Amsterdam. We tried the pad kra Pao with beef and the vermicelli noodles! Both were super tasty. Great little spot if you’re craving some nice Thai curry rice or a Thai fried rice too.

Everything was very very good. We ordered two dishes and shared with two beer and it was reasonably priced. Food was served hot and stayed hot with their serving plate warmers.

Simple and pleasant setting. Slow service and ultimately little in the room. Very good food from starter to dessert. Unfortunately very (too) long, even though there weren't many tables. Go there with your eyes closed but expect that it will take time!

Have been to many Thai restaurants around the world including Thailand and this one is one of the best I've had. The flavors are exquisite and unique - Pad Thai a staple everywhere had something special. The Tom Kha was just the right mouth watering sweetness, and the Satay had a beautiful deep fry coat with subtle spices and tender tasty. Highly recommend!

We ordered from their website yesterday and the food was AMAZING!! I never leave reviews but I had to because this is hands down the best Thai I ever had in Amsterdam and absolutely comparable to some of the best Thai I had in Thailand. The Fishcakes are amazing, the mango sticky rice is delicious and the garlic rice-noodles dish and their satay sauce were sooo tasty and everything is super fresh and homemade. This was more than enough to share between two people and the delivery guy was so kind and friendly. All in all this one deserves 5stars and will be our new go to Thai Restaurant.

It's not worth it for such a long wait. We were only asked after an hour what we wanted to eat even though we had decided after 10 minutes and it took another 10-15 minutes for the starter to arrive and the main course another hour not recommended

Delicious food, definitely recommended if you like Thai food. Large menu with extensive choice. All dishes tasted well. The fishcakes are among my favorites and are as I expected them to be. The service is very friendly and helpful.

We entered this restaurant with skepticism as it was always half empty, luckily we made up our minds (also helped by the extreme proximity to our hotel) because despite it not being very busy (not necessarily a flaw) the food was really excellent, the staff were very courteous, a very pleasant discovery

We opted for dinner at this establishment, and the cuisine was truly excellent. Our order included chicken satay, pad Thai with extra spice, and another dish (whose name escapes me), all of which left a strong positive impression. If we were local to Amsterdam, I'd definitely become a regular. While the service was a bit slow today, our waitress was exceptionally friendly and made an effort to ensure our satisfaction.

Really amazing food, and honestly the girl with the high ponytail is running everywhere and is super sweet! Really nice service, and vibes. Loved the place. Definitely coming back again someday
