This is, by far, the best smash burger joint in Amsterdam. I’ve followed them from their location in east, oedipus, and now with transit bar and the quality of the burgers are unparalleled.

I have been getting my burgers at the Beef Chief for years. Since the takeover, I have been there three times. The burger is still phenomenally delicious and remains my absolute number one. The bun has become slightly smaller and tastes different than before, but it is still very tasty. Unfortunately, during my three visits, I had to pick up my drinks at the bar myself twice and place my order there as well. That in itself isn't a big deal, but the service really needs a bit more attention. Waiting half an hour for your drinks is simply too long. Despite that, the quality of the burgers remains unrivaled to me. Hopefully, the service will become a bit sharper, because then the experience will be truly complete again.

Update: pretty embarrassing that the response from owner to my comments that I don't know what I'm talking about because I "don't own a butcher or cheese shop". Wow. I had been waiting to visit this place for months, because it's listed on many blogs & Reddit as the best burger place in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, it wasn't great. The quality of both the beef & cheese was lower than I expected. It's not a bad burger by any means, it's just what I was hoping for. It also took over 20 minutes after ordering to get my food.

The new location for Beef Chief is fantastic! The vegetarian versions of their two popular burgers are soooo good. I’d also highly recommend the cauliflower—normally not something I’d order, but it was so delicious that I’ll definitely be coming back for it. There’s a large outdoor terrace and the indoor setup is great too: spacious, not overcrowded, and some seats even offer a nice view of the skatepark.

Burgers are on the small side, so I recommend ordering fries (or getting two burgers). The food is really good and the service is excellent. I got some fun hippie vibes from the place, probably coz of the skateboard playground

The onion burger was perfect, the kimchi burger strong. But... the chicken kimchi burger was uninspired. It lacked a bit of a spicy sauce. The ranch was completely undetectable, in any case. The fries came in a large quantity, which is cool, doesn't happen often anymore 🤣 but a single burger isn't filling enough. All in all, a solid pass for the beef burgers! The chicken could use some work... 🗣 screaming man emoji

The fries were outstanding as well crispy, fresh, and the perfect companion to an already amazing meal. What made the experience even better was the atmosphere. The place has a fantastic vibe, and the staff were genuinely friendly, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. We've always loved Beef Chief, in all it's forms and locations, but the new Beef Chief - Transit is amazing. Great food, Great Staff and a great vibe. We've been quite a few times since they opened the new spot, from an early dinner with our 4 year old who is mesmerised by watching the skaters while waiting for her food and also just late night drinks and food with good music. Staff are excellent, burgers are still the best that I've had.

Beef chief was my 'I need to grab dinner with a friend in Amsterdam' mainstay for years, but I highly doubt I'll bother going back. Last time I was there was in the previous venue. Burger is good, but value is totally out the window. Prices have gone through the roof while uniqueness has declined a lot. Menu has been cut down to be crazy simple at this point. Just not worth the trek out anymore.

Best burger I have had in Amsterdam. The buffalo wings were amazing as well. This place also really loves making pickles, and I love eating them. The home made pickles and pickled celery were a nice addition to the burger and wings. Pickleback shots were also gorgeous. If you love a burger and a home made pickle, this is the place.

Beef Chief has moved from Oedipus Brewing to a new location. While the new spot doesn’t quite match the original’s cool vibe, it does have the advantage of being less crowded. Being part of Oedipus was a win-win for guests — delicious food paired with great beers 🍻. Now we had to go to Oedipus afterwords to have a nice beer. The service was good and friendly, and we were happy to hear that the cauliflower is back on the menu, which was — as always — delicious. The burgers, however, were a bit disappointing. Still good, but noticeably drier and less juicy than they used to be. Hopefully, this was just a minor hiccup during our visit.

We went to see how things are in the new location (with "Transit Bar"). The room is far smaller than their old location. They have no atmosphere control anymore, just one swing door. For some unfathomable reason they placed a table RIGHT in front of this door. And chose to place us here. Every 30 seconds we got blasted by a frigid cold wind as people went in and out CONSTANTLY and held the door open for prolonged periods. We had to put our coats back on. A. You obviously need to control this better B. You obviously should not place tables here C. We asked if we could move and he told us he would give us a new table if one opened up and he never talked to us again. I walked around several times over the next 45 minutes and there were several open, clean tables with no reservation signs. D. I also feel like if someone goes through the effort of reserving in advance, you should not deliberately give them the absolute worst table in the entire place. I got the special burger and the flavours were interesting (although the toppings introduced too much moisture), but the burger was room temperature. My friend's burger was hot but we both agreed mine was fully cooled. Also the meat was not crispy on either of them and that's the whole point of a smash patty. They used to be great at this (I have been to Beef Chief at least 10 or 11 times over the last 6 years, have always advocated strongly for them being one of my favourite places. Went to the one in Oost, and the last 3 locations in Noord). They didn't give us cutlery OR napkins. For burgers and sides ..... Seriously? I thought i was ordering potato wedges but it turned out to be lettuce. Which I guess is somewhat my own fault. Not too mad about that except the lettuce was not grilled or anything at all, just completely raw. And it cost €9.50. Why? An entire head of lettuce costs like, less than €1 in this country. They chopped it and drizzled sauce on it. It was raw. Why is it €10 when french fries are €7.50 and those need to be peeled, cut, fried twice in oil, salted.... We legit laughed when they placed that on the table. obviously if i had known it was just raw lettuce i would not have ordered it for €9.5... feels like just flipping off your customers at that point. The drink menu at the bar is very generic. Very standard cocktails, small selection of beers and wines. Nothing special or signature at all. Why is this "bar collab" even here? Drink menu is devoid of any personality. Make at least 1 signature drink, or at the bare minimum you need to have a theme that fits the food. This is just like, a chatgpt generated drink selection of one of everything someone might potentially order. No service at all. Had to go order at the bar because no one ever walked by ever. Had to go search around the restaurant like a video game side quest to find someone who could give me cutlery and napkins. Understaffed and chaotic. I cannot imagine why they wanted to move to this objectively worse location, or how the quality has deteriorated so much at the same time. Staff the place properly, train your staff properly, think seriously about your menu, your layout, your atmosphere and experience, take quality control semi-seriously, and don't charge obscene prices.

Had a great time when I went this past weekend. Incredibly tasty food paired with great drinks. Staff was warm and friendly and set a great mood. Highly recommend!

I went to the new location on the soft opening weekend. The service was friendly and spot on. I’m also happy to report it’s still the best burger in Amsterdam! I was nice to see some new items on the menu, but sad to see some old ones go. They also have a new concept bar, Transit, which has a nice vibe both inside and also out on the terrace. They have a nice range of beer, cider, wines and cocktails and seems they are still testing new ones. They also mentioned they will start to have brunch. It may be my new go to in Noord!

The Beef Chief is one of the best burger spots in Amsterdam. I highly recommend checking them out no matter where they are! This place is one of Noord's' many gems and a must visit spot for those who love tasty beers, delicious food and a great atmosphere while hanging with your friends! Visited the Beef Chief last September and boy, I wish I did sooner. This is one of those places where you know it's a great place from the moment you enter. Their collaboration with Oedipus sadly ends soon but they struck gold with this combination of golden beers and amazing burgers. The atmosphere inside is very warm and almost requires you to have a good time regardless of your mood. We ordered a beer tasting menu and some burgers and it's safe to say, it was freaking delicious. The beers from Oedipus are always a welcome drink to enjoy with your friends. A broad range of flavours and types makes sure there's always something for you to love. The food is actually hella delicious. Wow. We took our first bite and the group just fell silent. If you know what's good for you, you know that that's a sign of greatness. The burgers were tasty with great toppings, cheesy and the flavour combination was balanced and just right. At times, this experience comes up in our conversations as a fond memory of us just zoning out and enjoying the food. The staff is incredibly friendly and carry a nice energy. They made sure we had a good time and the experience was lovely. The food and drinks came quickly and they had some jokes as well! One of those places that will end up in your restaurant rotation. A solid place that will definitely surprise and satisfy you beyond your initial thoughts.

Good burgers, a bit pricey. The chicken wings in fish sauce and disco dip didn't quite win us over. The fried cauliflower was excellent, though! The beers were also good.

Sorry vegans, there are no longer vegan burgers. The only option is the cauliflower but it wasn’t very good; sauce was too salty/much and it was undercooked. Maybe it was an off night but I wouldn’t do it again.

We where sent away without an apology in a rude manner because we couldn’t order food (also not to go), there was a shortage of kitchen staff and apparently there was a list of people who wanted to order but might not be able to. Personnel really could be more friendly and less rude and arrogant about this, this is not a club.

The (Fry me a River) burger: a rib from your body (but hey, it's 2025 in Amsterdam), but most of all: my goodness, what an incredible amount of salt they put on that burger! The only thing I tasted every now and then was a pickle. I even sent the burger back (which this modest young man almost never does), because it was so salty it was barely edible. The two were a bit less salty, but still worrying. The mapo (loaded) fries (a second rib from my body) were also anything but memorable. Update regarding comment: Oh my, you're going in with a straight leg, shame on you :) Regarding my supposed Dutch-ness: I can't afford to eat out very often; when I do, I expect more for a €15 burger than I got from you, both in quality and quantity (because I honestly thought it was a small burger). So there you go. I'd happily pay €15 for a hamburger if I thought it was worth it. p.s. Sarcasm is saying the opposite of what you mean with the aim of (mildly) ridiculing someone. I think your comment is more of an insulting dig (and not even very funny).

The mapo fries were the HIGHLIGHT of our meal here, 13/10. Here’s why: all the flavours were balanced, it was spicy, salty, sour, creamy - and the best part was that even with all that sauce, the fries were STILL crunchy! Omg, chef’s kiss💋we also ordered the Slaw and Jam burgers, which were also very good, but I gotta say the fries took the spotlight for sure. Can’t wait to come back with friends to try it out!

Decent beer, nice enough vibe but the plastic chairs table service is a bit odd in a brewery IMO. Had a big let down when I went to order some vegetarian food to be told directly from the chef (both of them) that the vegan burger is awful because it’s vegan and then followed by it’s just they use a really bad patty? Then swiftly cancelled my order. Like honestly it’s so easy to get decent vegan burger patties, please just make the extra tiny effort it isn’t hard. Even your chefs don’t like it… it leaves people hungry & unlikely to return with friends.

Great beer garden and a brewery hall converted into a large beer café, featuring the iconic Oedipus beers. Fantastic location in Amsterdam-Noord, behind what looks like a garage door from the outside. Enthusiastic, young staff.

Went here once and really enjoyed the food, but on my second visit I arrived to meet with friends at 8:30pm only to find out the kitchen was already closed. Not just that, but my group had sat for 30min without ever seeing a waiter. The service is really lacking and the vibe is "we're doing you a favor" when it's the other way around. Truly baffling, and a shame, because the burgers are really good.

Best burger I have had in the Netherlands by quite a mile. I've had burgers here twice and I hope to come back many times because they are that good. The smash burgers are perfect, juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The other ingredients including the bread were also of the highest standards. The chicken wings are also something I recommend trying, as they use this delicious white bbq sauce to compliment the juicy chicken. P.S. The burger restaurant is located at Oedipus brewery and be warned, it can be very busy during the weekends, so don't be surprised if you have to wait quite a while before you can order, but the wait is worth it!

Love what they done with the place! Perfect spot on a rare sunny day in Noord

We’ve been loyal customers of Beef Chief Noord for over two years, coming nearly every week for the burgers never once needing a reservation. But tonight at 8:00 PM was a shockingly poor experience that left us questioning whether to return. Upon arrival, we were told that without a reservation we could still sit at a table in the corner which we gladly accepted. We ordered drinks while waiting to order food, and after trying to get the attention of 3–4 staff members, someone finally acknowledged us and said he would come back after taking terrace orders. We patiently waited. Fifteen minutes later, the same staff member returned only to tell us after all that time that the kitchen had an issue and burgers were only available for guests with reservations, and that we could only order snacks. Why wasn’t this told to us at the start? We clearly said we didn’t have a reservation. Had we known, we wouldn’t have stayed we came specifically for burgers, not snacks. To make matters worse, the staff showed zero accountability instead of an apology the server gave us attitude and insisted we pay for the quarter of a drink we barely touched while waiting for a food order that would never come. We refused. This was not our mistake it was theirs for not communicating basic information! Honestly, this place has always been about the burgers if you’re not serving them to walk-ins, say so clearly. Wasting 20+ minutes of a regular customer’s time without a single apology is unacceptable. There seems to be a real management problem on busy nights and weekends a we come during the week and the staff is attentive. Hopefully this gets sorted out because the food is really spot on.

100% recommended experience The place is very lively and offers a relaxed and fun atmosphere. It's huge and offers both indoor and outdoor seating, either at tables or benches. The staff is fantastic, very attentive and pleasant. They're always smiling and attentive to their customers' needs. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The products are top-quality and the meat is delicious. The potatoes are homemade and very tasty. The portions are very generous. The beers are top-notch, and I recommend trying a few. They have a format where you can try four of their beers at a very competitive price.

Excellent burgers, especially the cry me a river. However, go order directly at the bar even if they say they will come to you because the servers don't come to see the tables, you feel like you're disturbing them. I've been here 3 or 4 times, and it's always the same.

We came to try the burger and we both loved it. The burger reminded us of a place in the USA that had really good burgers. The IPA’s are also very nice. We had mapo fries and the fry me a river burger. The bun was super soft, the burger had a good flavor and the fries are really good also. For us we rate this a strong 9 out of 10 we will definitely come back!

Mouthwatering burgers and a great selection of beers.

The food is great, but the service is messy and chaotic. Maybe someone will come to you table, but only to order drinks if you are lucky. (Once I sat at a very dirty sticky table too). No menu's on the table, so you all have to go inside to order I guess? If you are lucky enough to have a menu, then one person has to remember the whole order and go inside to place it seperately at two different locations. Oh and they ask you to to tip, for what? I got my food myself. It's such a mess. If you don't want to come get the orders, just put a QR code on the table, a menu pops up, and have people order and pay that way. It would be way more efficient than this chaos.

Quite literally just a window inside the sizable complex, outdoor seating quite popular during long summer days while the inside is filled by youthful residents sipping Beer or Wine, arrival just an hour after opening finds everyone in jovial spirits and staff quite pleasant. Originally gaining notoriety for the Kimchief, Parrott’s fondness for fermented Cabbage immediately evident on the menu, “Fry Me a River” takes on the popular “Smashburger” without over-flattening things and the result is a juicy mix of MRIJ Beef and Bone Marrow whose intrinsic flavor holds up well to condiments including Cheese, Pickles and Sauce. Sporting a fluffy but generous Bun, the attention to detail evident across Beef Chief’s menu, Fries or Wings prove popular and look well-made but should not take the place of “Crucial cauliflower” that sees the Crucifer lightly fried but perfectly tender in a sticky Korean lacquer with Sesame Seeds, a side of Kimchi and cheffed-up Mayo.

Super cute location just outside the center of Amsterdam. You can sit outside or inside, the place is very large and suitable for spending time chilling. The sandwiches are amazing! Soft bread, good meat, quality ingredients. We split a portion of potatoes and it was huge!! Their beers are also special. Recommended!

Servers didn't pay attention of the arrivals, after 20 minutes of sitting at a table, I decided to leave the place. Sad, because several people recommended the place.

Great place, slow service. (But once you finally managed to placed your order, food arrives quickly). They should consider upgrading the floor from concrete to… something else. Some plants or (fake) palm trees wouldn’t hurt.

One of the coolest hidden gems Amsterdam has to offer. Mouth watering burgers, loaded fries, so many beers, good service and fun decorations. Only note is that they miss desserts!! Would love a chocolate fondant or a banana split after the burgers. Absolutely to try!

Since its participation in the Drip Festival in 2023 and the associated promotion by Bockie De Repper, the Beef Chief has become a well-known name in Belgium. When I visited Amsterdam I definitely had to pay a visit. From the busy Central Station I took the free ferry towards Noord, and after a short walk I reached the remote, calm industrial zone where the Oedipus brewery appears out of nowhere. It was a sunny day and the courtyard was full of people enjoying a beer. I ordered my "Fry me a river" burger and a portion of fries, and waited on the terrace with a deliciously fresh and spicy Gaia IPA on tap, served in the very colorful glass for which Oedipus is known. The burger was certainly worth the hype on social media: 2 thin "smashed" patties that were pressed onto the onions, making the latter deliciously caramelized in the fat of the meat. The lightly toasted bun had a slightly sweet taste and was nice and airy. The American cheese was perfectly melted and was the glue that held the burger together. Everything was balanced with the right amount of sauce: not too much so that everything drips out, but enough so that you can lick your fingers afterwards! What really disappointed me was the portion of "Wrong platform fries". This was way too big, and clearly intended as a dish to share. However, I was only there, so I had to leave half of it behind. For me, half a portion for a lower price would have been better. Because the portion was so large and covered with a thick layer of cold kimchi and cold sauces, the fries also cooled down immediately and were already cold when I took my first bite. Shame!

Intresting industrial designed burger place. Service was fast, burger was great (we tried 4 diffrent burgers) in order to try more. All of the burgers were great
