@kplusds We chose this place for breakfast one morning on our trip, and SO glad we did! Very cozy and warm on a cold winters day. The pancakes are like a thick crepe that fill the entire plate. I chose the regular with bacon and my husband had one with bacon and cheese cooked in. Both were delicious! The orange juice was fresh and the coffee hot! Great place!

Besides cheese and fries, the Netherlands is also a pancake kingdom. Although I don't usually eat these kinds of foods, since I've come all this way, I had to try them anyway 😋 I found a well-known and highly-rated restaurant, The Pancake Bakery 🥞 I ordered one sweet and one savory. The sweet one was Poffertjes, Dutch mini pancakes. These are traditional Dutch desserts, bite-sized pancakes. They're a bit like Taiwanese sponge cakes, but rounder and smaller. Although they didn't look very appealing, with the honey and powdered sugar 🍯, they weren't too sweet, and had a chewy, bouncy texture—surprisingly quite delicious. The savory one... I ordered the bacon and egg pancake. When it arrived, it looked like a giant bacon and egg omelet. The crust had a slightly crispy texture. 🥓 The bacon was extremely salty; you absolutely have to eat it with the egg and crust. But after a while, it became a bit too salty. 🙊 If you usually prefer milder flavors, you might want to pair it with a beer or a soft drink, or alternate between sweet and salty. Otherwise, you won't be able to finish it. 🧂 Conclusion: Worth a try if you're passing by; the staff is quite friendly! A delicious meal. It's true that the prices are high, especially for drinks. We had two savory dishes, and the ingredients were very well combined; the specialty dishes are highly recommended. We also had the typical Amsterdam dessert with stroopwafels, and it was incredible.

This is a must when visiting Amsterdam. I had the Indonesian pancake and it was very filling and incredibly delicious. Many menu options, including traditional Dutch pancakes, minis. Not to expensive, however, worth the price. This place is very busy, but the service is good.

While you're in Amsterdam, you might want to spend your breakfast elsewhere. The food and atmosphere are mediocre. Some of the waiters are a bit too snooty.

Tourist trap, avoid. After buying mediocre food at outrageous prices €€€ , to be told by a rude waitress when requesting plain tap water -"You need to order drinks off the menu for me to serve you tap water"...! It adds insult to injury. Avoid, unless you want to lighten your wallet for rude service.

We went here because of the Google reviews and, to be honest, it didn't disappoint. It's definitely worth a try. The pancakes were very well done, tasty, and original. The waiters were very friendly. Cool atmosphere. I was a little surprised by the price; I expected to spend less.

Food took 50 minutes to arrive and once it did the order was wrong! We asked for no onions and the pancake couldn’t have more added to it… it was uneatable… Luckily they took the pancakes off the bill due to the wait and wrong order. They also offered to prepare a new one but due to previous wait we refused… looked delicious but sadly couldn’t eat!

The place isn't very big, but it's quite comfortable and welcoming. The staff is professional. The pancakes are quite large, which is to be expected given their high price. They were pretty good, but you might find them cheaper elsewhere.

Rustic vibes with cool artwork and the restaurant has been around since 1973. The food is very flavorful but it's a thin pancake so it wasn't the most filling (if your on a budget you might want to look for a meal elsewhere, but otherwise it's worth it if you're not a big eater). Other thing I found a bit strange was they wouldn't give you tap water unless you order something else to drink.

I arrived around 10 AM and was seated immediately without waiting in line. I ordered one sweet and one savory traditional Dutch pancake. The sweet one was banana with Nutella sauce. They gave a generous amount of sauce; one was very filling for one person.

An extensive menu, delicious food, fast and friendly service

I had high expectations for this popular pancake place and even brought a friend along, but we were quite disappointed. The staff were rather pushy and came across as a bit aggressive at times. I ordered a savoury pancake, which unfortunately had very little flavour and was slightly burnt. It tasted mostly of plain flour with a few bits of onion, and I couldn’t finish it. My friend’s sweet pancake was covered with an overwhelming amount of whipped cream and ice cream, which made it too heavy and sickly. And the prices were quite high for what we got. I honestly don’t understand why this place has such great reviews.

Excellent little spot. As a group of 6 we were all happy. Adults having omelettes which were perfect and kids choosing pancakes which came with a toy to their delight. Our server was excellent i wish we got his name, he took time to explain an Americano to us and was swift in getting our kids sorted with colouring books. So glad we came and highly recommend 🤩

We recommend the traditional mini dutch pancakes over any other dishes, as the others are not that suprising, such as normal pancake with icecream. Please remember to reserve a table if you are planning to visit during weekends or peak seasons.

Popular little place in a converted 17th century building right by the canal side. This was actually our second visit, this time with our little boy who enjoyed a ‘pirate pancake’, which he enjoyed. We actually didn’t choose pancakes this time as we felt the price was way too high - €20 is way too steep - although the portions did look generous. The French onion soup was lovely & was well worth €8.

Ate here on our last trip to Amsterdam and they have Gluten Free Poffertjes! They are DIVINE. 10/10 would stop here again and order plates full of poffertjes. They can also do their other pancakes GF too which is cool.

Highly recommended! We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered, as follows in decreasing order: - french onion soup (very generous with the cheese) - bread with garlic spread (rich and creamy) - Norwegian pancake (not quite what we expected for the dough but the filling was tasty) We were lucky we can slightly earlier (around 5pm on a Saturday) as the crowds and queue outside started building after a while.

Book if you can otherwise you can wait a little bit at busy times. Love the variety of savoury and sweet pancakes. They also have a good size omelette selection.

I'm sorry but I don't know why anyone would choose to eat here. We came from out of town and couldn't decide on what to eat amongst all the lovely offerings. We saw a mix of sweet/salty pancakes with canal-side dining. The pancakes were below average. I made the mistake of ordering the french onion soup. Something tasted off and there was a red colored oil on top and I ended up throwing everything up (not on purpose). What an experience! I think this place is a tourist trap =(

The whole experience was nice, staff were friendly from the begging to the end and always prompt to take orders, and help us with pictures. I ordered the cheese and chicken pancake that is more like a crepe, it was very tasty and quite big, could eat throughout the day. drinks were also good and okay priced for Amsterdam location.

Chose this pancake restaurant out of recommendations. It is overrated. Pancakes are fine, I am not impressed. Service is poor. The staff behaves abruptly. We didn’t dine in a rush hour. Please offer them training and pay them well. I’ll choose another restaurant to be honest.

Walking into The Pancake Bakery feels like stepping into a warm, story-book Dutch house. Low ceilings, wooden beams, and the soft murmur of people enjoying their plates—it instantly puts you at ease. The bacon & apple pancake is a brilliant blend of sweet and savory: crisp bacon balanced by tart apple slices, all drizzled with stroop or syrup which ties everything together without being overly sugary. The pancake batter is light, slightly chewy, with golden edges that add texture. Then there are the Dutch poffertjes—tiny clouds of mini-pancakes, soft and pillowy, dusted in powdered sugar and bathed in melted butter (or chocolate, if you’re indulgent). They melt in your mouth; it’s almost unfair how quickly you devour them. Service was friendly and unhurried, and portions are generous—these aren’t dainty pancakes. Perfect for sharing, or for when you simply want comfort in food form. If you’re in Amsterdam and love pancakes or everyday treats with character, this place is a must.

Mediocre pancakes at best - the dough is undercooked, has barely any taste, just unpleasant sticky consistency. Extremely overpriced (20€ for a pancake with some basic filling). The kitchen is open, and it smells really strong like fried / burnt oil, and the area around it is quite smoky. Overall just another tourist trap that claims to be “traditional”.

The pancakes are good, but they're not to be confused with the ones we're used to (American pancakes). This place only serves Dutch pancakes, which are a sort of large, slightly thicker crepe. There's a bit of a line to get in.

If you’re looking for a masterclass in passive-aggressive customer service, this is the place to be. The restaurant wasn’t crowded, there was an empty table outside, so we politely asked one of the waitresses if it was free. She said yes, and that someone would bring menus. Simple enough, right? Apparently not. The waiter in charge of the outside area seemed personally offended that we dared to sit without first reporting to him at the door. His response? A silent punishment: no menus, no welcome, just a delightful stretch of being ignored. When I finally asked what the issue was, he explained that we were supposed to go back to the door and be seated officially—though, hilariously, we ended up staying at the exact same table anyway. So instead of simply explaining their “system” like a professional, the waiter chose the disciplinary tactic of treating us like unruly schoolchildren. Because nothing says hospitality quite like sulking at your own customers. And sadly, when the food finally came, it didn’t redeem the experience. Despite all the drama, the dishes were painfully average—normal quality, nothing memorable, nothing outstanding. In short: if you want to feel unwelcome and unimpressed, this place delivers both effortlessly.

Nothing amazing. Decent quality food and service, I felt it wasn’t good value… perhaps overpriced for what you get. Charming place to eat though, especially outside next to the canal. Inside is a bit too dark for my liking.

I really love the Poffertjes but didn't yet figure out which topics go best with them. The butter and sugar ones are good but the butter is somehow sweet for itself as well.. We came for breakfast and were kinda disappointed with the portion size. Definitely not a main dish :/
