Friendly service and pretty atmosphere. We sat in the corner of the restaurant with the pretty flowers, which was by far the nicest part of the restaurant. I ordered their spaghetti con zucchine that also came with shrimps. It was lovely with some cheese.

We discovered the restaurant by chance while walking around the center of Amsterdam and we made a great decision. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff was really nice and attentive. We ordered two Aperols and their signature pizza Amando, which was fantastic - one of the best we have ever had. The food was ready quickly, everything was fresh and tasty. The price of €40 for the whole lunch for two seemed completely appropriate for the quality. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in the area!

The host was a creepy leery man who seemed to prey (and focus) more on women than on paying customers. The food was bland at best, and of very low quality. Staff seemed clueless and uncaring. As much as I love exploring restaurants, I regret stumbling in here, because the food was wel below par. The pizza and ingredients on them were bland and undercooked and the response of the staff was nothing more than a shrug. I hate putting out a low rating but this restaurant was not worth the money for the food I received.

We ordered 2 pizzas 2 soups 1 beer 1 coke 1 sparkling water, a Chicken salad and a glass of ice water. The manager refused to bring me a tap water saying they do not serve that. Perhaps this is the norm in Amsterdam; but as a paying customer; I was completely insulted. In all fairness; the food was VERY GOOD.

The atmosphere and service were more than satisfactory, but the food was terrible. We asked if the carbonara was like in Italy, and we ended up with bits of supermarket ham instead of guanciale. Avoid.

Just back from nearly 2 weeks holiday, and I’m already craving the Raviola Ricotta E Spinaci in butter with sage from Amando Italia. We stumbled into this restaurant near the beginning of our trip after finding ourselves disenchanted with the venue we were seated in. Leaving there to stumble into Amando Italia turned out to be fortuitous. At the time of my order, I asked our server Salvo if I could have my ravioli with marinara. He gently shook his head. I got the feeling that the “chef knew best”, and I ordered it as written. Now I only want spinach and ricotta ravioli with sage butter. It was delicious! Joe ordered the chicken pizza, a very generous portion that he thoroughly enjoyed. We shared a beautiful caprese salad (should have taken photos), delicious tiramisu, and a bottle of Montepulciano red at about one-third the cost of what we’d pay for it in a restaurant here in the states. The entire meal was very reasonably priced, especially considering the quality, portions and the service. Oh yes, the service. Salvo treated us like old friends, and the owner (Honey?) came by and visited with us for a while. We talked about restaurant business and family life, and felt like we had known each other for years. Sadly, this was the second of our two nights in Amsterdam or we definitely would have returned. Honey (sp?) and Salvo really embodied the spirit of hospitality my husband and I (both former restaurant management professionals) most value. Highly recommend.

Disappointing Experience – Unfortunately, Not a Recommendation We recently visited Gajo Restaurant because we were convinced by the many positive reviews. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We ordered a tenderloin steak, which the menu listed as being served with vegetables and potatoes. The meat, however, was tough and barely edible. When we asked where the potatoes were, the waiter told us they weren't available today – but we were still charged the full price. The salami pizza was listed as €17 on the menu, but the receipt charged us €22.50 – a price that was neither advertised nor understandable. The prawns we ordered were also supposed to be served with potatoes and vegetables, according to the menu. However, only the prawns were on the plate. Only after asking again did we receive a small portion of vegetables. Again, there were no potatoes, yet we were still charged the full price. Overall, we felt ripped off. No discount or concession was offered. Each guest only received one shot on the house. For a restaurant with such a good reputation, that's very disappointing. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

I happened to walk past Amando Italia/Gayo and was drawn by the delicious aroma. It piqued my curiosity, so I decided to go inside. I asked if I could take the food with me—no problem at all. When I asked how much pasta was in a portion, the employee said, "More than enough for one person." He even emphasized that he—with his large frame—had more than enough. That reassured me. And I ordered the pizza Davioli. While I waited, I ordered a cappuccino. It arrived almost simultaneously with the food, but unfortunately, it was lukewarm. Luckily, I was able to ask for another one without any problems, which arrived a bit faster and was warmer. Once home, my enthusiasm waned. The container felt incredibly light. When I opened it, I was shocked: there were literally only a few bites in it—see photo. Even my son couldn't finish it. And all that for €18. Yes, you read that right. A shame, because the taste was truly excellent. But the portion size in relation to the price was disappointing. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back.

Suddenly an Italian restaurant, the carbonara was swimming in oil and the pizza crust was tough and heavy, despite being claimed to be fresh. The appetizer was served with the main course. 10/10, I wouldn't recommend it.

The bar is now a restaurant called Amando Italia, serving upscale, authentic Italian cuisine. We were there with two adults and three children/teenagers. It was really very good, even if it was a bit "too Italian" for one child; the tomato sauce had too many chunks and too much flavor. The pizza was very good, the pasta was al dente and flavorful, the bruschetta was good, the lasagna was excellent, and the homemade tiramisu was very good, but a bit small for the price. It's slightly upscale overall, but with wine, it came to around €160 for the adults. Very friendly, pleasant service, and all requests were accommodated. The ambiance remained the same as at the bar, and it was a matter of taste.

We visited this amazing restaurant for breakfast a few times, and it was honestly some of the nicest food we've had during our visit to Amsterdam. The pancake stacks are so good. I would highly recommend GAYO for breakfast. Also the staff are so friendly, especially Salvatore, who was so welcoming and helpful.

Stumbled upon this restaurant on our first day in Amsterdam after our tour of the Anne Frank Huis. Service was super friendly. Food was great. Fish and chips, Caesar salad. Excellent. Highly recommend!

I live closeby and I was craving a good eggs benedict. They have like 4 variations. Also today I had lunch there and the fish and chips were amazing. Friendly staff. I do believe they are intalian owned and operated. So the food and the service is very good. Also, they have a nice terrace and superb coffee.

Great welcome and great team to please you with a delicious pancake in an elegant setting. I recommend the cinnamon pancake, it's a good dose of comfort. Thank you to the Gayo servers and the cook who took great care of you!!

The service was good, as was the ambiance. However, the food is way overpriced. I had a carbonara for €22, and the portion was too small for the price. The pasta wasn't cooked all the way through, the sauce was salty, and the bacon was mostly fat. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Well, my pasta was soaked in the salt water, hard as Krupp steel. Inedible! Well, often when restaurants are running on their own, quality deteriorates. The wobbly table had to be repaired before eating, otherwise the food might have fallen off. Nobody finishes their food here! Chain-food!!!

Worst Burger Ever and very Dirty Restaurant

Don’t order the grilled salmon. You’ll pay 23 euros for JUST a piece of fish with some small sides, no potatoes or nothing with it. The carbonara my friends got was apparently cold and the pasta wasn’t properly cooked. Also they charge €4 euros for still water, the same as sodas.

Very disappointing, the rib eye steak was served with nothing, no sauce, no legumes. The starter was served at the same time as the main course. The carbonara pasta was bland and tasteless. This isn't really an Italian restaurant!

Great shop right on a canal and not far from the main train station. My friend had pancakes that not only looked delicious but also tasted great. The service was also outstanding. I got some fries to go and sat down at the table with my friend. This was no problem at all for the extremely friendly and personable waiter (it would have been understandable if he hadn't wanted me to eat food from another shop there). Highly recommended!

Best food in Amsterdam if you’re searching for great Italian and Breakfast! The chef and owner are absolutely delightful, they both were very nice when I forgot to say no cheese for the omelette. The inside is also gorgeous, great for bringing a group for dinner. Definitely the best place I’ve eaten so far, 10/10 would recommend.

I got three small pieces of salmon, which were still raw and cold, no vegetables, lettuce, potatoes or fries, just a small dollop of guacamole. Very bad food, which is a shame because the restaurant looks very nice. The waiter came three times with coffee that I had not ordered. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We were deceived by the good reviews... We each ordered 18€ (!!) (a ceasar salad and an avocado & salmon salad) - i.e. a main course salad - and got a very small salad that was almost not marinated. The salad was the size of a starter and for €18 I expect at least a delicious marinade and not just salt and oil... (for the Avocado & Salmon Salad) The croutons listed on the menu were also missing from the Cesar Sald... Unfortunately we were still hungry afterwards and had to get something else somewhere else…. And that with an 18€ salad :( We also noticed that you had to pay extra for burgers such as cheese, bacon, etc. Without any extra charge you would have just gotten a burger with sauce, meat and onions... and that alone was very expensive. But service was okay :)

Server not friendly at all, menu incomplete too bad

When asking staff if I could use the restroom (on my way home) because I am pregnant, the staff member responded with ‘ you don’t look pregnant’ and was not allowed to use the restroom. I was taken aback by such a response and promptly left. I would have happily paid to use the restroom so it’s a shame they handled in a poorly manner.
