Good value restaurant for money in Amsterdam

Very nice and cozy place. The food was delicious and plentiful. We went as a family: two adults and two children, ages 10 and 12. We ordered a mixed chicken salad, lasagna Bolognese, and spaghetti carbonara, and all four of us ate very well. 100% recommended!

My best meal during my entire stay in Amsterdam was at Amando. We were simply thrilled! Perfectly cooked steak, perfectly grilled vegetables, and a wonderful sauce! The price-performance ratio was absolutely fair; for the quality, I'd even say it was a bargain.

It's cozy, the pizza is mediocre (like in a pizzeria). 20 euros is very expensive for a pizza like that. 330 ml non-alcoholic beer for 7 euros😟. The pasta carbonara felt like I made it at home😄. Yes, the food was served quickly, but the quality was terrible.

Went here last. Ight and it was SO good we made a reservation for tonight before we left. This is a real GEM OF A RESTAURANT IN AMSTERDAM.

I happened to walk past Amando Italia/Gayo and was drawn in by the delicious aroma. That made me curious, so I decided to go inside. I asked if I could take the food away — no problem at all. When I asked how much pasta was in a portion, the employee said: “More than enough for one person.” He even emphasized that—with his large build—he had more than enough for himself. That reassured me. And I had ordered the pasta and pizza Davioli. While I waited, I ordered a cappuccino. It arrived almost at the same time as the food, but unfortunately, it was lukewarm. Fortunately, I was able to ask for a new one without any problems, which arrived a little faster and was warmer. Once home, my enthusiasm turned sour. The cup felt incredibly light. When I opened it, I was shocked: there were literally only a few bites in it—see photo. Even my son didn't get enough. And that for €18. Yes, you read that right. A shame, because in terms of taste, it was truly excellent. But the portion size in relation to the price was disappointing. Unfortunately, I am not coming back.

Staff were very good and accommodating even with food orders. Food was good nothing super amazing but not disappointing in any way.

Excellent service, very friendly and attentive waiters. We ordered a Margherita pizza and a white pizza with salmon. Unfortunately, the pizza base is frozen, so it tastes like frozen pizza. I have nothing else to say about the food. Spent about €45 with drinks.

I wish that I could wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant, however, there are two big reasons why I cannot. Our daughter has a dairy allergy which, as you can imagine, is very challenging at Italian restaurants. Our go-to is plain pasta with olive oil. When we tried to order pasta with olive oil, the server could not understand what we were asking for which is fine and we asked for plain pasta with nothing on it instead. When they brought her pasta, it was glistening and we were very lucky that I tried it first because it was covered in butter. We called the server over and asked, again, for plain pasta with no butter. This time, they did bring the correct order and we were willing to forgive and forget. Unfortunately, we then received the bill - they charged us 19 EUROS FOR A CUP OF PENNE WITH NOTHING ON IT even after they at first gave us the wrong dish which could have caused an allergic reaction!! Of course, we were expecting to pay something, but not the same price that we would have paid if the pasta had sauce or vegetables or garlic, oil, and seasoning. So, I cannot recommend this restaurant for anyone with an allergy (there were also incorrect allergy labels on the menu) or anyone who might want to order plain pasta unless, of course they enjoy overpaying. The other food we ordered was very tasty, especially the pizza, so it is unfortunate that there were glaring safety issues and overpricing.

I went to Amando Italia this evening to celebrate my mom's birthday. The pizza was delicious and the staff was really friendly. A special mention goes to our waitress, Mimma, who truly made us feel at home ♥️

Went for dinner a few days ago, the food was delicious however I was very off put by two members of staff saying some very mean things about me and my partner with them assuming we don’t speak Italian, we do and understood everything that was said. Had been prior and had a lovely experience but after that I will not be returning

We stumbled across this restaurant while out walking and it turned out to be the best Italian food we ever had. We had bruschetta was Devine. The risotto was unbelievable as well as the ravioli. Service was fantastic. Could not recommend enough. 5 star ⭐

I don't usually leave reviews because I have some reservations about the principle. However, in this case, I'm sure it's in the public interest and I strongly advise against going to this place. While I did notice the high price of the pizzas, I expected them to be of a much higher quality than average to justify the price. I was disappointed; they were quite ordinary, even below average. Aside from the aperitif and sodas, which were reasonably priced, the other drinks, especially the beer, were excessively expensive. The staff's friendliness is not a strong point of this establishment, and the highlight of our evening was the near-obligation to leave a 10% tip (20% was also offered) for a service that didn't warrant it. Judge for yourself: 2 aperitifs (martini and Campari/restaurant serving), 2 pizzas (a very average Neapolitan/a Quattro Stagioni not much better), 1 50cl beer, 1 20cl Coke = €60 + €6 = €66. Unless there has been a recent change of ownership, I can't explain the current rating (which also reinforces my reservations about the rating system). Conclusion: an establishment to avoid.

We were captivated by the restaurant atmosphere and beautiful decorations. Then, our plates were served: WE WERE STUNNED! Our pastas and pizza were absolutely TASTY, FRESH AND DELICIOUS… We already plan to be back at our next trip to Amsterdam!

Friendly service and pretty atmosphere. We sat in the corner of the restaurant with the pretty flowers, which was by far the nicest part of the restaurant. I ordered their spaghetti con zucchine that also came with shrimps. It was lovely with some cheese.

We discovered the restaurant by chance while walking around the center of Amsterdam and we made a great decision. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff was really nice and attentive. We ordered two Aperols and their signature pizza Amando, which was fantastic - one of the best we have ever had. The food was ready quickly, everything was fresh and tasty. The price of €40 for the whole lunch for two seemed completely appropriate for the quality. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in the area!

The host was a creepy leery man who seemed to prey (and focus) more on women than on paying customers. The food was bland at best, and of very low quality. Staff seemed clueless and uncaring. As much as I love exploring restaurants, I regret stumbling in here, because the food was wel below par. The pizza and ingredients on them were bland and undercooked and the response of the staff was nothing more than a shrug. I hate putting out a low rating but this restaurant was not worth the money for the food I received.

We ordered 2 pizzas 2 soups 1 beer 1 coke 1 sparkling water, a Chicken salad and a glass of ice water. The manager refused to bring me a tap water saying they do not serve that. Perhaps this is the norm in Amsterdam; but as a paying customer; I was completely insulted. In all fairness; the food was VERY GOOD.

The atmosphere and service were more than satisfactory, but the food was terrible. We asked if the carbonara was like in Italy, and we ended up with bits of supermarket ham instead of guanciale. Avoid.

Just back from nearly 2 weeks holiday, and I’m already craving the Raviola Ricotta E Spinaci in butter with sage from Amando Italia. We stumbled into this restaurant near the beginning of our trip after finding ourselves disenchanted with the venue we were seated in. Leaving there to stumble into Amando Italia turned out to be fortuitous. At the time of my order, I asked our server Salvo if I could have my ravioli with marinara. He gently shook his head. I got the feeling that the “chef knew best”, and I ordered it as written. Now I only want spinach and ricotta ravioli with sage butter. It was delicious! Joe ordered the chicken pizza, a very generous portion that he thoroughly enjoyed. We shared a beautiful caprese salad (should have taken photos), delicious tiramisu, and a bottle of Montepulciano red at about one-third the cost of what we’d pay for it in a restaurant here in the states. The entire meal was very reasonably priced, especially considering the quality, portions and the service. Oh yes, the service. Salvo treated us like old friends, and the owner (Honey?) came by and visited with us for a while. We talked about restaurant business and family life, and felt like we had known each other for years. Sadly, this was the second of our two nights in Amsterdam or we definitely would have returned. Honey (sp?) and Salvo really embodied the spirit of hospitality my husband and I (both former restaurant management professionals) most value. Highly recommend.

Disappointing Experience – Unfortunately, Not a Recommendation We recently visited Gajo Restaurant because we were convinced by the many positive reviews. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We ordered a tenderloin steak, which the menu listed as being served with vegetables and potatoes. The meat, however, was tough and barely edible. When we asked where the potatoes were, the waiter told us they weren't available today – but we were still charged the full price. The salami pizza was listed as €17 on the menu, but the receipt charged us €22.50 – a price that was neither advertised nor understandable. The prawns we ordered were also supposed to be served with potatoes and vegetables, according to the menu. However, only the prawns were on the plate. Only after asking again did we receive a small portion of vegetables. Again, there were no potatoes, yet we were still charged the full price. Overall, we felt ripped off. No discount or concession was offered. Each guest only received one shot on the house. For a restaurant with such a good reputation, that's very disappointing. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

Suddenly an Italian restaurant, the carbonara was swimming in oil and the pizza crust was tough and heavy, despite being claimed to be fresh. The appetizer was served with the main course. 10/10, I wouldn't recommend it.

The bar is now a restaurant called Amando Italia, serving upscale, authentic Italian cuisine. We were there with two adults and three children/teenagers. It was really very good, even if it was a bit "too Italian" for one child; the tomato sauce had too many chunks and too much flavor. The pizza was very good, the pasta was al dente and flavorful, the bruschetta was good, the lasagna was excellent, and the homemade tiramisu was very good, but a bit small for the price. It's slightly upscale overall, but with wine, it came to around €160 for the adults. Very friendly, pleasant service, and all requests were accommodated. The ambiance remained the same as at the bar, and it was a matter of taste.

We had two pizzas - burata and frutti Di mare . Both delicious. Staff very nice and friendly. Recommended place .

We visited this amazing restaurant for breakfast a few times, and it was honestly some of the nicest food we've had during our visit to Amsterdam. The pancake stacks are so good. I would highly recommend GAYO for breakfast. Also the staff are so friendly, especially Salvatore, who was so welcoming and helpful.

Stumbled upon this restaurant on our first day in Amsterdam after our tour of the Anne Frank Huis. Service was super friendly. Food was great. Fish and chips, Caesar salad. Excellent. Highly recommend!

I live closeby and I was craving a good eggs benedict. They have like 4 variations. Also today I had lunch there and the fish and chips were amazing. Friendly staff. I do believe they are intalian owned and operated. So the food and the service is very good. Also, they have a nice terrace and superb coffee.

Great welcome and great team to please you with a delicious pancake in an elegant setting. I recommend the cinnamon pancake, it's a good dose of comfort. Thank you to the Gayo servers and the cook who took great care of you!!
