Had food here when I visited Amsterdam a few years ago. It was a nice place with good food.

Great concert, but the venue was poorly signposted; it took us 20 minutes to find it. Otherwise, a beautiful place.

We went to a concert here, and I really liked that you could stand upstairs, which was easy to reach. If you're in a wheelchair, you'd have to take the stairs. Overall, everything was great!

Excellent service and a lovely view of the IJ, but the lunch was less than mediocre. Dishes that seemed to have come straight from a ready-made supermarket package, only to be far too cold, so that the last traces of flavor had vanished.

Last Monday we dined at the Tolhuistuin, and it was a wonderful experience. We were able to sit down without a reservation, which was a plus. The shared dining concept with a wide variety of appetizers is highly recommended; this allowed us to try a bit of everything. The service was very friendly and attentive. There was a slight mishap with the dessert; we didn't get what we ordered. But when the correct dessert arrived, the "Tolhuistuintje," it all made up for it. Not only did it look lovely, it was also incredibly delicious. All in all, we had a great evening and it's definitely a place to return to!

This mini boat of massaman curry for €9.80 is about 15cm long and 5cm wide. Dutch coziness at its finest... the idea is to share your dishes, but then you have to order a bit more... I understand why now 😂

The “nachos” dish on the menu unfortunately didn’t match what you’d expect. It was just a few plain tortilla chips served without cheese, sauce, or any toppings. That’s a bit disappointing, as this shouldn’t really be sold under the name “nachos.” The rest of the experience and service were okay, but it might be better to list this dish as “tortilla chips” instead, so expectations are clear. The location is nice.

I sat there in utter amazement at two cubes of silken tofu, about 5 centimeters long, topped with hoisin sauce and 5 spring onion strings, for which I would pay €8.50 at the end of the evening. Tolhuistuin has become incredibly expensive in recent years.

Extremely overpriced and they serve the beers not in a glass. Asking for a glass and they answer "Only upstairs" and walk-off. €6,20 for a beer without a glass is a bit crazy!

I was here for the Anees concert. It was a super chill place, with friendly young staff, a great atmosphere, a nice, intimate venue, and good sound. The bar staff was a bit slow, though. But overall, a great experience in a beautiful location.

Very disappointed in the loaded nachos. Too wet. Guacamole was creamy and abundant but no flavor. A glob of melted cheese was unappetizing. The salsa was sweet. Ugh. Consider a recipe that has more appeal. They were really the worst nachos I’ve ever had. Even hot sauce on the side (which wasn’t offered) would not have rescued these slimy nachos.

The food and ambiance here is very nice! Had a great night and tried some interesting things. But the staff were talking very nasty about people. We sat next to the place where the servers were standing, and they were all the time talking about how weird people were or deciding with rock paper scissors who would have to go to the table with the “weird” people. So it was a very bad experience on that part.

We sat outside, but the restaurant inside is beautiful. The terrace is lovely with a view of the IJ and Central Station. There's a wide selection of tasty small dishes at reasonable prices, but if you're really hungry, it can get quite pricey. It shouldn't spoil the fun. It's a nice place. The staff is friendly, but could be a bit more attentive.

It's very well located, reasonably priced, right next to the canal, right after getting off the ferry. The service takes ages... ages, and it's not particularly busy!

Great place for an outdoor drink when the sun is shining! Very large garden area with seats and parasols. Order from your table and the service is very efficient. Great views across the water and plenty of people watching. You can access it very easily from the ferry which runs continuously and is free! Had a very enjoyable evening here.

Restaurant is located at a very good spot: opposite Amsterdam Central Station, facing IJ/ships movement, very nice and spacious terrace but inside it's cosy and comfortable too. Nice, fast and helpful staff. Good food, lots of vegan and vegetarian options that cost less than the animal options. We had a great time at a fair price and will definitely be back!

Unfortunately, there's often a lot of litter in the grass next to the bike path and between the tables. It would be great if Tolhuistuin took more responsibility and cleaned up the litter around and on the patio. 🙃 We emailed about this, but unfortunately, Tolhuistuin indicated that this is a municipal responsibility, because the litter keeps returning due to the trash bins along the IJ. Yet, it's right next to their patio and contributes to the appearance of their venue. Waste is a social problem that many Amsterdam residents face, particularly due to the impact of the new deposit system. You would expect an event venue that benefits so much from the neighborhood to want to be part of the solution. It's disappointing that this isn't the case.

Bad staff that does not pay attention to the customer.

Nice restaurant/cafe with large terrace overlooking the water. Easy ordering with QR code. Delicious bitterballen. Behind the restaurant is a nice garden where activities are regularly organized.

Cozy and close to a park and there are free boat crossings to the heart of Amsterdam. There you can walk almost everywhere without a car. Enjoyed a Wodka Mul on the terrace. Chatted a bit and left again, have a nice week week people.

What even are those nachos. They don't even look appetizing, the least you could do is make them taste good. Very mid - absolutely do NOT recommend I do like ordering via QR code and the prices are decent for Amsterdam!

My partner and I went to the Luvcat concert in Tolhuistuin on April 21st, 2025. Overall, we are very satisfied and would like to visit the cultural center many more times. The concert hall offers space for (estimated) around 200-250 visitors. Anyone who has experienced concerts of this size knows that the atmosphere is very pleasant with a manageable number of guests. The volume was appropriate; If you still need hearing protection, you can buy it locally. Drivers have the option of parking in the A’Dam car park, approximately 150 meters away. The lockers at Tolhuistuin cost €3.50 per person, which is above average in comparison. Unfortunately, the entire cultural center is designed exclusively for EC payments, which is both contemporary and now common in the Netherlands. However, since there are also concerts taking place that attract guests from abroad (and for general convenience), the additional option of paying with cash would be a great advantage for all visitors.

I was looking forward to an Aperol Spritz all day, but when I got one here it was so bad. There was no sweetness to it and it came in a regular glass rather than wine glass. Disappointing. There was no decaf soda there, not even sprite. They had 7-up but it was sugar free.

Food arrives in drops, as do drinks and dessert 30 minutes later. Very poor customer service. A place NOT to go to.

Tolhuistuin is a beautiful cozy location in Amsterdam North opposite Central Station. Easily accessible with the free ferry. We simply received tickets for the Sungazer concert via email, so no hassle with TicketMaster or anything. When you enter, you have to find where to go, but you can't miss the cloakroom. The lockers can be rented per evening for €2 and you can pay by card. The room is great, the bar is in the room so you don't have to leave the music to have a drink. And just a tray for more than 4 cups (are you reading AfasLive?). Good acoustics and good sound. But that can differ per performance of course... 5 stars, we will definitely come back.

Super slow service and a pretentious place.

Was here for a concert in September 2024. The location is very good and easily connected and you can reach it by ferry. Very nice staff!

The New Year's Eve party was a lot of fun! Unfortunately, towards the end I didn't feel well and had to go to the emergency room. Very nice that I could come here. A curly redhead knew exactly what to do. Thank you for the good care!

really delicious food. This week they had a completely vegetarian/vegan menu with small snacks. everything arrived quickly, even though it was full. even on a Monday evening.

Service is horrible. They forgot our orders and came very infrequently to take orders. At some point, we had to wait 30 minutes before we could order and then they told us the kitchen was closed. We constantly had to remind them that we ordered something, didn't get any cutlery, asked three times for the bill. They just could not remember anything.

I went here for a concert and had a really nice experience! The place inside is not too big, but there still plenty of room. The girl behind the bar and also the lady who scanned my ticket were nice ad polite and they smiled, which is a big plus! The dancefloor itself like I said is not too big, but that made the concert more intimite and there was a nice i lnteraction with thw band. The acoutics are good. The ligjting was good. I will be back for sure! The only thing which could be better is a bar at the dancefloor. But it might take up too much spave I don"t know. It didn't bother me

Bad service, can't see it, you have to make a reservation in a two-hour time slot, why?! We were ordered to close the laptop when my girlfriend showed her holiday photos, and the "hostesses" meant it, what an inhospitable and arrogant restaurant, I will never go there again!

Had dinner on Thursday evening at THT restaurant and what a nice place!! Last minute a place available for two people. I thought it had a very friendly atmosphere. It is a large space where many people can eat, but the acoustics are absolutely fine. And the food was delicious! The menu had Spanish, Italian and Asian appetizers. Something for everyone. We went for two rounds with four snacks and two desserts. That was more than enough. With a bottle of wine, we spent 100 including tip. (they are not the best photos, but to give an idea :))

Had dinner in the THT restaurant and afterwards a great concert by the Bygones: indie folk by Josh Turner and Allison Young with music from various decades: jazz, classical, rock, country!

Ambience very nice, service very friendly and quick, taste great. The prices are quite high considering the portions, it was already a house number for our salads and bread. Was more like the size of an appetizer.

Pleasant location for meetings, such as a company presentation. Good catering, friendly service. Parking is sometimes an issue due to the many road closures and poor signage where parking is available.

Loved this small and intimate music venue. Came especially from UK to see an acoustic show by Richard Hawley which was superb. Great view and sound. Excellent bar service and reasonably priced. Super easy access via free ferry from Centraal station. Will visit again.

Specifically regarding the cafe/restaurant. Employee wages are paid with customers money. If you don't provide customer service, the income is reduced, and your job becomes even worse. If you hate customers you should find a new job. If you don't notice an issue with your employees behavior, good luck. Tolhuistuin was a nice place to visit before Corona.

Stuff was rude from the beginning until the end.

The waiters don't pay attention to the guests, we didn't get a menu and when we asked for it, no one came to take our order for 30 minutes, and when my boyfriend went to order drinks at the bar, we waited another 15 minutes for someone to bring us a drink. I definitely don't recommend it, it's a lot of waiting and it's really not worth it.

With a reservation we had a really nice place. The heat of the day was barely noticeable in the shade with a light breeze off the water. The service was very friendly, the portions were tiny but tasty (I particularly liked the veggie burgers)

Unfortunately, a lesser experience. Despite a reservation for 5 people, it was apparently complicated for the staff to arrange a good table. Too bad because most dishes were fine, but to be honest not everything was fine. All in all 1 star and we won't be going back anytime soon. Beautiful oasis in Amsterdam North, next to Eye. A short walk from the Pont. Free events on weekends in the summer, but during the week you can also reserve workplaces, I read. Less that we saw a fat rat walking on one of the paths 🫣

As always, a very tasty meal. My downside is that I think it's a shame that my dish contained a hair. Of course I received a new dish but it would have been nice if I had received compensation in some form........a bit disappointed in this.

We were moved 3 times to different places because there was an event. Always after about ten minutes. Too bad you don't get a drink or an apology for the inconvenience. The food was lukewarm, not fresh and rather "dark". It would be passed on. Nice location, great atmosphere.

Went to an event for two days there, such a good place, with a lot of wood structures inside, people working there are very friendly and helpful. The dinner snack has vegan tuna, best vegan tuna I have ever had.

I visited Tolhuistuin to see the Cannons concert in 17th of March this year, the venue was just fantastic to be able to see the band up close and enjoy the music. There was a mixed age group but everybody seem to have a great time. I would recommend the venue and the Cannons. Its was so easy for myself to get to from the UK plus having a good weekend in Amsterdam, looking forward to my next visit there.

Free ferry from Amsterdam HBF, then park your bikes directly there and enjoy a delicious lunch (flambée, tuna sandwich, Mediterranean platter), very well seasoned. Price line fits very well! Something else

By far, the worst food i ever ate. The place is nice, the staff was nice, but the food was horrible.

A great place to hang out, Coffee places and great terrace with views

Recently saw 2 different artists here and had a good experience both times! It takes a while to find the entrance and it can feel unintuitive to step inside, but the atmosphere inside is top notch! A cozy yet attractive room with a reasonable view from every angle, and the balcony also offers a good view of the performances. The bar in the room is also easy to reach and it feels like the room is never TOO full!

I visited Tolhuistuin as part of the Amsterdam's Grachten Festival and saw a few performances by up and coming (classical) performers. A large hall with a lovely bar, and a huge terrace overlooking the river/harbour. Magnificent!

Visited Cannons concert. Nice room. Good visibility everywhere. Sound was fine. No need to wait upon entry. The lockers etc. also went smoothly. Tip: take a 2 euro coin with you! Very friendly and helpful staff too!

First musical experience in the city, and I left happy. The ferry from Central Station leaves you at the door of the building. The concert hall is good, it has 2 floors. On the upper floor there are some benches if you want to sit down for a bit. On the ground floor there is the bar for drinks. The acoustics are good. They have lockers for 2 euros. The only thing I did not like was the smell of urine in the bathroom area.

We visited on a Saturday night with 4 people. The location is great, the interior gives off strong '70s vibes with wooden panels and a raised dining platform. The atmosphere was slightly chaotic and it was a bit difficult to hear each other talk. It was also not clear who was supposed to be waiting our table, which made it quite difficult to order extra courses or drinks. The concept of shared dining with smaller portion is nice, but unfortunately the food itself was quite disappointing. The vietnamese style rice paper roll was poorly wrapped and the pairing sauce quite bland. The nachos were not corn nachos, rather some tasteless deepfried dough that tasted suspiciously similar to the pizza fritta one and the guacamole did not taste homemade. The toasted brioche bread tasted a bit stale and the paté was slothered in an extremely sweet sauce that was supposed to be made with Mme Jeannette peppers, but tasted rather like the sweet chili sauce of the AH. The puttanesca sauce on the pizza fritta was pairing very poorly with the taleggio cheese. The vegetarian sliders were ok for a school cantine, but not something I would expect to eat at a restaurant. I would not recommend it for the food, but for a drink and a borrel it may be quite a nice spot, especially in the summer.

Delicious food with brilliant view

Entirely right. Delicious food and very friendly and helpful staff. And the location is the only one of its kind, especially when it is dark. Beautiful view of the IJ and Central Station with all its floating and moving lights. The only downside is the reservation system. The only possible two-hour time slot started at 5 p.m. Then you expect to be able to order immediately. However, the kitchen did not open until 5:30 PM. If you have an appointment, this is not convenient at all and forces you to continue eating. They would rather put that on the reservation page. For the newcomers. 😉 Nothing but praise.

Ate here again after a while. The location is very favorable; You just have to get off the ferry to the north and you are already there. Inside it is large but cozy: attractively lit and still good in terms of acoustics. When we made our reservation we were given a time slot of two hours, but luckily we were able to stay a little longer because it was not very busy. The service was variable: one lady very friendly and cheerful, another seemed disinterested. One of us also forgot to serve our starter so we couldn't eat it at the same time, which was a shame. Then the food: the bok choy with coconut foam was excellent! A nice surprise. The celeriac was also great. So nice that they know how to do something creative with vegetables here and make it really tasty. The sticky toffee, on the other hand, was disappointing to me. It was dry and not as smooth and sticky as it should be, and the rich caramel flavor was also missing. It was a gigantic piece by the way. All in all we had a great evening, I will come back again to try more vegetable dishes from the menu.

Great intimate shows and nice people :)

Vele keren geweest voor voornamelijk concerten. Binnen in de verschillende zalen maar ook buiten in de tuin met boom in het midden voor het podium. Het geluid is eigenlijk altijd goed. En er hangt ook meestal een goede sfeer wat wordt geholpen door het aardige personeel en de prima biertjes.

Het begon al bij binnenkomst. We werden hartelijk ontvangen (gezelschap bestaat uit mijn vrouw, twee dochters en ikzelf). Mijn dochters mochten het tafeltje kiezen en vervolgens waren alle bestellingen er snel, ruim en geweldig qua smaak. Een absolute aanrader.

Het was even zoeken naar de ingang, maar dan heb je ook wat.
