TOOTJE in Binnenstad-Noord

We came in on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Full of enthusiasm because it had a good rating on Google. The seating was, to put it mildly, ‘cozy’. Making tea took some time. Then we decided to take the breakfast special. Croissant with yoghurt and gravy. We had to wait more than half an hour for this. The quality was average, good, but not special. The girls, very nice, but not super efficient.

Had a lovely brunch at Tootje with my sisters-in-law! Small, cosy place with super tasty food from fluffy pancakes to a fresh smoothie bowl and all sorts of other treats that we shared with each other.. Everything made with care and in a nice, relaxed atmosphere. A real gem!

Super cozy cafe with delicious toasted sandwiches and iced coffee!

Delicious sandwiches eaten and the pancakes were also tasty. The atmosphere scored a bit lower because of the interior. Very small cafe with busy interior and the chairs are not very comfortable, but despite that enjoyed it enormously and very sweet girls who like to serve you.

The five of us had lunch here last week. The meal was great and this is due to the good atmosphere, friendly staff and of course the delicious food. The combinations are very good and not what you find everywhere. I really enjoy that! The staff was also very friendly! If you are in the area, definitely go for something to eat and drink!

Small cozy café with super nice staff. Breakfast and drinks were very tasty, the food on neighboring tables also looked delicious :-) There are also some tables outside. Since the café is very small, I would definitely recommend making a reservation.

Very nice and cozy café, perfect for breakfast or a coffee in between. The food tastes very good and there are also many vegetarian and vegan options.

I wish I could have tried the food…and I would have if I someone took our order. After initially being seated and asking a few questions about the menu we asked for a minute to think about our order. After that no one came for over 25 minutes. I understand being busy, but it takes only a few seconds to stop by and say “sorry we are busy and will get your order in a moment.” Instead we both tried to make eye contact with employees multiple times and no one would come our way. As more time went on we decided to get a few drinks to go. The drinks were good, however weren’t what we ordered. We ordered an iced chai but were given an iced coffee instead (coffee was mid). Rose lemonade was very good though.

Came across this café by chance and absolutely loved it. The pancakes were a dream, and the cappuccino was really good too. The staff were super friendly, and the overall atmosphere was just lovely. If I lived in Leiden, I’d be a regular customer.

We had the most amazing breakfast here! Flavorful avocado toast, soft and fluffy pancakes, and creamy yoghurt with granola and fruit, together with great ice latte and americano, all fantastic!

We had a fantastic baby shower, thanks to Tootje's great organization! The high tea was delicious, carefully composed and fully tailored to the wishes of the pregnant woman and other dietary requirements, such as gluten-free. The festive space above the restaurant was perfect – cozy, quiet and with a great atmosphere. Everything was very well organized and the hospitality was top notch. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to celebrate a special occasion!

Wholesome honest little shop with lovely staff and desserts. Enjoyed a delicious white choc pistachio cheesecake and even got to get some work done. :)

It was a very sweet little café. They have very delicious food. The sandwiches and pancakes were incredible good. The owners/staff were so kind.

If you can see through the mood of the staff, it is a very nice place. Very tasty meal. Many orders were thoroughly reviewed and assessed and people sighed and complained about specific customers sitting further away. My order was also discussed followed by "I hope she can't hear this by the way!". (They were right, by the way: the decaf coffee looked like water.) Fortunately, the other girl serving was very nice and helpful. But next time I'll walk a block further.

Hygiene Concerns! I recently dined at Tootje Cafe and had a mixed experience. While the food was good and the staff was friendly, I was disappointed to see a bottle of cleaning products and a dirty rag left on the table where the visitors were sitting. It made me question the restaurant’s hygiene practices. Not only is this unappetizing, but it’s also a health concern. Cleaning supplies should be stored properly, and rags should not be left where customers eat. I hope the management takes better care of these details because the food and atmosphere were otherwise enjoyable. A little more attention to cleanliness could make this a great dining spot.

This is the most comfy coffee place that I’ve been in Leiden. Actually in whole Nederland. There are many options to choose there. I recommend the dirty chai latte and the apple pie. Also, the croassaint is a good option to choose.

this is our favourite cafe in the world - literally! we travel to leiden every two or three months, because we love the city, and we fell in love with your wonderful cafe! we go there almost every day when we're in the NL. the food and drinks all are delicious and we tried every sort of chai latte (kardamom rocks!, the others too ;)) tot ziens in de zomer :)

Tootje is truly my all-time favorite coffee shop in Leiden! Have the tastiest chia's that are made with love. You will be helped with a lot of passion and friendliness and you will not be able to leave without a smile on your face!

Update: Now in English. I would like to share my constructive review of this place. While the food was of good quality (normal/small portions) and the price was average, there are areas that could be improved. The lunch menu could be expanded, as the current options feel more suited for a pre-lunch or brunch. Regarding the restaurant itself, I strongly recommend that the owner and staff reconsider the minimum level of cleanliness required. There was visible dust on the shelves, windows (which were old and almost broken), chairs, and tables. Additionally, the menu and floor were noticeably dirty, covered in some kind of syrup or liquid. We were shocked when my friend received a dirty straw with her drink. Thankfully, the staff replaced it when we requested a new one. How is it even possible that the waitress is preparing food at the same time as serving coffee customers, without even washing her hands in between? I hope this review helps improve the place.

Little gem of a place……..full of character. The Hangover Toastie was delicious and the Yogurt pots looked very good……I’d rerun here without question and work my way through the menu. A lovely place to while away a morning.

First day here from USA and first cafe visited. Cutie, small with great atmosphere. Great service. Had the crispy hazelnut yoghurt with granola and very tasty. Bf Had the chorizo sandwich and he said was also very tasty!

I'd give 6 Stars of I could. The staff is lovely and the food incredible good. The decoration is cozy with nice details to explore.

Food is amazing. Not only it looks great but it also tastes great, which is what I care about the most. I recommend the spicy hummus thing.

Very nice cafe! Great for some breakfast or lunch! I had the breakfast combo and have to say that everything was of good quality, I especially enjoyed the moccachino & croissant. The atmosphere within the place is welcoming and they play nice music, gotta come back for the apple pie as it looked delicious.

Chocolate and pralines to fall in love with. We stocked up on chocolates for our vacation here. They were so delicious. Absolutely recommended. But also the service. Loving ladies who guided us through the huge selection and took a lot of time. Top quality and service!

Last week we had lunch at Tootje's. Mannn, what a delicious meal we had! We opted for the Chorito sandwich and the Hangover toasted sandwich (I almost wish I had a hangover every day if I could eat a sandwich like that...) and for our two-year-old daughter a farmer's yoghurt with fruit. The owner thought along with us and made a smaller portion for our daughter, which was really perfect. Furthermore, super friendly service and a really personal touch. Recommended!

I didn’t eat food but the coffees and drinks were really good

Amazing! I got an iced cardamom chai latte and an acai bowl, and my partner got the original pancakes and it was all so good! It's very nice that you can build your own bowl, so I got everything I like :) I really recommend the chocowaffle bites!! The service was great, both girls working there today were so sweet and patient, and the cafe space is so cosy and beautifully decorated. Highly recommend :)

A great place to sit and relax. I had high tea here with a friend. It was the best high tea ever. A well-stocked etagère, completely furnished according to the wishes I had communicated in advance. Everything was really tasty and my girlfriend thought they were the best brownies ever. Communication with Tootje was pleasant and fast. The service was very spontaneous, pleasant and caring; nothing was too much. We enjoyed it; Tootje has two new customers!

Super great staff and the tastiest chai latte in the Netherlands.

I recently had a late lunch hete and was quite impressed with the experience. The food was not only good but also beautifully presented. I tried the Oreo pancakes, which were tasty, though the portion size was a bit modest. The places’ interior is cozy, clearly designed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. There are also some lovely staff members working there, ensuring that everything is as per your wish. The only thing missing for a perfect 5-star review are slightly larger portions to match the quality of the meal. Overall, it’s a great spot for a well-prepared meal at a fairly reasonable price.

Very cozy place with super nice staff and a delicious menu. You can't go wrong with anything. The coffee is smooth and velvety served in a cute cup. The space is a Dutch small but you can choose from tall chairs against the window or a table in. Enjoy!
