We had a lovely time sitting on the terrace at Kopje van Leiden. We ordered inside, but the order was politely brought outside. The coffee and matcha were delicious and prepared with care by real baristas. The pastries also looked fantastic. Additionally, the staff was friendly, helpful, and hospitable. Highly recommended!

Incredibly long wait. There were plenty of staff. If we hadn't had to pay in advance, we would have left. The cappuccino and latte macchiato were finally good after a 25-minute wait.

This is my favorite café in Leiden since I moved here. Coffee and food are always perfect & the little chocolate treats are to die for. You can even buy them, which makes for a great gift. The ordering process also works via phone, which I like.

We had a great breakfast this morning, with a very good selection of cakes and coffee, and a very calm and relaxing atmosphere! I was very happy to have a bowl of yogurt and granola. The young women in the kitchen were very kind, a very warm welcome :) Highly recommended!

We normally love coming here on Saturday mornings after our runs as a group. Unfortunately, the service has become terribly slow and the quality of the coffee is quite bad. It is also very rare that you will ever actually be able to order a croissant.

First of all, it looks nice and cozy. We ordered with a QR code, which seems to take longer than ordering at the bar. The cappuccino, latte, and macchiato were cold, but the Americano coffee was nice and hot. The plants above the chocolate machine should be removed. Apparently, it's popular, because there's quite a bit of business. Otherwise, it's a beautiful location and has a lot of choices.

An impersonal QR ordering table, combined with the high prices, might be a match for Gen Z, but I struggle with it.

We both had a ham and cheese toastie with an "uitsmijter" (fried eggs)...at least, that's what the menu said. In reality, we got a ham and cheese toastie with a rubbery frozen omelet that was clearly pre-made from a wholesaler. Brrr! Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't much better; our cappuccinos tasted like vending machine coffee. That's really sad for a place that calls itself Kopje van Leiden and charges exorbitant prices. Not worth repeating.

I think I'll wait a few weeks, but I'm writing this review because I'm still pissed off. I thought I'd order something using the QR code on the table. We ordered two drinks and two pastries. They forgot one of them and said it wasn't on the receipt. I had to pay extra for it. Way too expensive, and the service was terrible. The matcha tasted like milk, and we both felt sick afterward.

We enjoyed some lovely apple pie and hot chocolate. 2 apple pies and hot chocolate for €23. The whipped cream cost €4, but came from a spray can; by the time it was delivered, you couldn't even call it whipped cream anymore. We reported this, and we are of the opinion that you should be able to expect good whipped cream for this price.

What a terrible place! Was served a day old (at least) and overpriced pastry at breakfast time. Just go across the street to a much better place that actually cares about coffee and food. (Updated to 1 star after passive agressieve owner reply)

We chose it by chance, and it was a sure success. Burrata sandwich, smoked salmon, and pulled pork panini. All very good, especially the first two. Carrot cake was excellent. The coffees and cortado were intense, just the way we like our coffee. Oh, and they were accompanied by tasty truffles. Excellent service from five organized and helpful young staff. The space was pleasant and comfortable. The table-based ordering website could be improved. A great find and a great experience in Leiden.

The coffee here is unnecessarily expensive. A size S flat white costs a whopping €4.50, while the matcha is even closer to €8.50, which, to be honest, I didn't even really like. Other coffee shops in Leiden charge around €4.50 for a good matcha, which is exactly the price you'd pay here for a MINI flat white. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff very friendly, nothing to complain about. But the prices are simply too high compared to what you'd get elsewhere.

It might be a nice place to work, but I'll never get a sandwich again. For almost 12 bucks, you get 3 slices of plain white bread, 2 spoonfuls of avocado, 1 spoonful of tuna, and a slice of cheese. It's supposed to be a tuna melt. The photo speaks for itself. The service was fine and friendly, but very inexperienced. Four young women were doing their damnedest, but you could tell they were lost.

Great location at the beginning of a shopping street. The Tostie XL consists of three slices of bread stacked on top of each other instead of the usual two. The pulled pork roll was filled with overly finely ground meat from the freezer. Inside, there was still a frozen lump. After I pointed this out, my roll was re-served. It had been reheated so much that the top of the roll had turned into an inedible burnt crust. €25 for two coffees and two rolls is quite expensive. The service was very friendly and efficient.

One of the most important things when experiencing a restaurant is the interaction you establish with people, and the staff are incredibly good at that 😊 As for the flavors I tried, the latte was just right, and the coffee's aroma was balanced. Cafe Lattes are usually cold by my standards, and sometimes, forgetting to mention it, makes drinking cold coffee a bit disappointing. But here, even though I didn't mention it specifically, the coffee was perfectly hot. The white chocolate and raspberry cookie was incredibly fresh, slightly crispy on the outside and moist and soft on the inside—it met all my expectations for a cookie. 😂 The Mad Berries smoothie was refreshing, neither too sweet nor too sour, and beautifully revealed the natural flavors of the fruits. In short, everything exceeded my expectations in terms of flavor and perfectly satisfied my palate. Prices are reasonable by Leiden standards. I paid around €13.50 for a latte, cookie, and smoothie, which I think is quite reasonable considering the quality of the place and the delicious food. All things considered, my rating for Kopje van Leiden is: 9/10 😊🍀

Had high tea, which was decent but nothing special. A slice of white bread, a salad bowl, two slices of cake, a banana with chocolate, and some bonbons. Not my idea of a high tea. The cappuccino wasn't recommended; it had an odd flavor. The staff were friendly, but I think they were too busy for a high tea. It was pleasant, but I wouldn't go back.

Ordered and paid for coffee on the terrace. Was served to the wrong table after 20 minutes. Coffee looked like rinse water from the machine. Smelled and tasted like it too. Didn't drink it.

During our visit to Leiden, we discovered Kopje van Leiden by chance and it was a great success. It is a cozy place, with a charming atmosphere and charming decoration, ideal for both a quick snack and for sitting quietly to work. The service was fast, friendly and attentive at all times. The menu offers a good variety of tasty dishes, snacks, drinks and delicious cakes or chocolates. You can order comfortably through the digital menu or directly at the counter. Spectacular food at very reasonable prices. I recommend it!

Sandwiches and coffee were ok but the service was dismal. 5 people behind the counter and they were averaging about 1 sandwich every 5 minutes. They sent us the wrong sandwich and then instead of prioritizing the correct one they placed it at the back of the line so it took almost an hour to receive it. The confusion level overall seemed quite high.

Delightful staff who are happy to share a joke and find an old man’s sense of humour funny (that’s me). The chocolate sticks are for their special hot chocolate not to be eaten separately 😃

We waited for this simple toaster a lot, came after finishing our tea and coffee. A table was kept vacant for 10-15 min, we were not allowed to sit. They served a big breakfast to them before bringing our toaster. Reservation is interesting for this kind of casual cafes, but at least serve the customers inside first… Still friendly staff though:)

Really bad service. We were there around lunch time on a Sunday. We ordered 2 ice-cappuccino, an ice-tea & fristi for the kids. It took ages for them to serve us. Sure it was busy, but nothing for 5 ladies to manage! We went there with 2 toddlers and they were unmanageable and running all around, and we only had an hour available. In the end I went at the counter and I requested the cold drinks for the kids. Hey, just an idea: cold drinks don't need preparation, just grab them from the fridge and give them directly! This way small children, that drink slow, have something to do and they don't run around impatiently till their drinks are there. Mindful movement for the serving personeel that works around and the other customers. After an hour we had to leave and we still didn't have our coffees so we asked them to be served to-go. And we had to add lots of sugar 'cause it was the most bitter coffee ever! Very disappointed.

On our visit to Leiden, it was a good idea to stop here for a small snack. Friendly and fast service. Cozy cafe. Curious way of serving the hot chocolate, which of course was very good.

This used to be my favourite place in Leiden for a break. Until I found an ant in the plate, walking on my tiramisu. It can happen, so I just told the waiter and gave the cake back. As anyone who has ever seen an ant knows, when there is one, there are usually more. So I went to see the plate in the vitrine cupboard where they keep the cakes. I immediately saw another one on the plate of the tiramisu. The waiter kindly took the plate with the full cake and reimbursed me politely. All was ending there when I saw the rest. She asked her boss (young lady with long hair) what to do, and instead of throwing the cake away, empty the cupboard and clean it to make sure there weren’t more, she told her to put the same cake back in the vitrine! The waiter did it and apologised saying that her boss told her. The problem is not the ant, but rather the reaction of the boss. I have clearly no trust anymore in how they store their food and in their hygiene. Such a pity! How to ruin a place and customer experience! And for what? To save a cake? Clearly cleaning is not something the boss considers important. To avoid (except for the hygiene office who should clearly visit this place).

However, the pie was rather too small for the price of 5 euros per slice. - **Versatility**: The café is a versatile space, suitable for relaxing, reading a book, or working, as there were students doing just that. - **Service System**: Like many typical Dutch cafés, the system involves ordering at the counter, with staff bringing your coffee and snacks to your table. --- This café seems like a great spot for enjoying a pleasant break in the city.

I visited several coffeeshops in Leiden (there for ~1 week), and this was by far my favorite. Very good cappuccinos and mochas (chocolate cappuccinos). Fantastic croissants. Good service and prices.
