Great food, tasty modern/classic top

Loved it here, food was great as was the wine list. Will definitely come back next time we're in Amsterdam.

What a great restaurant! Host Bob is a great asset and makes you feel right at home. Beautiful spot at the bar. We had the oysters, eel, tartalette, sole and ragout. Everything was really fantastic and also delicious wines. The service is also top notch and pampers you. My new favorite restaurant. I will definitely come back again!!

It just isn't it. The food was fine (especially the eel), but the place is very noisy, you have to make an effort to hear each other. The service is not great either. The service was very fleeting, dishes came very quickly one after the other, we really had to ask for a slower pace. We did not have the feeling of hospitality and that they made an effort to make us happy. A disappointment everywhere.

Erg leuk restaurant maar de porties zijn gênant klein en daardoor is prijs/ hoeveelheid scheef. Amsterdam is duur maar dit ging mij echt te ver bijv. 10,- voor een oester of één bolletje ijs 10,- maar toppunt was schoteltje ossenhaas (125 gr meer was het niet) voor 44,-. Alles heel lekker maar ik had echt nog honger toen ik thuis kwam. Niet voor herhaling vatbaar helaas.

When I first looked at the menu I wasn’t entirely sure what to choose. It didn’t immediately grab my attention. But as soon I’ve tried the dishes: every bite was bursting with flavor! This is easily one of the best restaurant in Amsterdam when it comes to food. The team is doing an amazing job and I wish them growth and a lot of success.

Well, the food is just great (if Ron Blaauw is eating at the bar a little further away, it must be good! 😉)! Lots of personal attention from/by service. Beautiful, matching wines with every dish. Eating at Troef is simply a fun and enjoyable evening out!

Had a really nice dinner here last night. The decor is stunning, right down the the glassware. The service was low-key and excellent (thank you to our waitress, I should have gotten her name), and the food was lovely. The steak was amazing, and there was a bit of shell in a new seafood starter (that was otherwise incredible), and without my asking they removed the whole dish from my bill. I was impressed.

Afgelopen zaterdag kennis gemaakt met dit restaurant! Bij binnenkomst werden we al zeer vriendelijk ontvangen door Bob! Dat is zeer fijn, want wij kwamen helemaal uit Den Haag rijden en dan wordt je zo ontvangen! De sfeer en de ambiance is heel prettig en dat in combinatie met de kwaliteit van de service voelde we ons al gelijk op ons gemak. Wij hadden een heel leuk plekje aan de bar/keuken tafel waar je de kookkunsten van de keuken goed kan waarnemen. Alle gerechten die wij hebben gegeten zijn met hoogwaardig kwaliteit en aandacht bereidt! Je kan merken dat er koks rondlopen die ervaring hebben opgedaan in het hoger segment van deze business. Maar ook de bediening laat professionaliteit zien, met aandacht en vriendelijkheid verzorgen zij de avond. Dit restaurant zit al sinds de opening elke dag vol vertelde Bob, nogal te begrijpen wat mij betreft! Kwaliteit met oog voor de gast in een zeer prettige, informele ambiance is hoe wij een avondje bij Troef hebben ervaren. Tot snel!

Amazing food but service well below standard. We booked a table but were placed at a kind of bar next to the entrance. Even after asking for a table a few times, it was clear the hostess was not willing/able to accommodate.

Vine aquí con un viejo amigo para una cena de despedida. Estábamos sentados rápidamente y el personal era fantástico. Tuvimos un aperitivo, luego el entrante y un plato principal. El entrante (marisqueo) era bueno y la porción de tamaño razonable, pero el aperitivo y el plato principal eran inaceptablemente pequeños. Cobrar 27€ por 100 g de carne de vacuno (plato principal) sin ni siquiera una ramita de brócoli fue francamente insultante. La carne también era razonable pero no excepcional y 3 bocados y se había ido. Alto precio pero calidad mediocre. Ni siquiera nos molestamos con el postre. Gastar 180€ en cenar sin vino ni postre y dejarse morir de hambre es abusivo, incluso para los estándares de Amsterdam. El personal era casi todo fantástico, pero incluso ellos mismos admiten que las porciones son tacañas. No comas aquí si quieres que te llenen de comida deliciosa a un precio razonable. Qué pena.

Nuestra primera cena incluyó ostras, tostadas de anchoa, caballa, mejillones y la increíble langosta. Todo estaba delicioso y lo más cerca de perfecto que una comida puede llegar. El servicio fue atento pero casual de una manera que te hizo sentir como si estuvieras en la cena de un amigo. La noche siguiente estábamos decididos a probar las cosas que no teníamos la noche anterior, pero añadiendo algunos de nuestros favoritos, también. La caballa hizo la lista ya que era ligera, deliciosa, y sabía a verano en un plato. El pan y la mantequilla eran deliciosos y me gustaría poder recrear la ensalada verde, era una perfección simple. El filete nos dejó boquiabiertos. Fantástico maridaje de vinos. Después de 3 semanas en Francia, nuestra comida favorita de todo el viaje lleno de comida increíble fue Troef. Nos gustaría hacer un viaje a Amsterdam solo para comer y beber aquí de nuevo!

This has to be the best restaurant at the moment. Everything is correct, the food is magnificent, I hope that the roast beef as a starter is still on the menu. Not enough words in my vocabulary to describe that sensation of taste and texture. And furthermore... even though the restaurant is full, there is an atmosphere of hospitality, conviviality with a lot of personal attention Just give me a ⭐️ Mr. Michelin 😉

I made a reservation for a group of 8 people. First came an email with a request to make a down payment, and only then did an email arrive stating that the reservation was not certain, and the option between a 4- and 5-course package with a price much higher than based on the menu was to be expected. I don't think that's a good business practice, I don't think I can feel comfortable eating out here. I canceled, luckily it was free of charge.

My favorite restaurant in Amsterdam, great cuisine, all dishes simply great, plus one of the best wine collections in the city. Perfect atmosphere and very friendly and staff that does everything to perfection.. highly recommended (my preference for the patty and the eel starter, 2 toppers)

I can only say that my partner and I had a wonderful experience! Everything was right. From the welcome of the attentive host, the friendly server to of course the delicious dishes. We were lucky enough to sit at the bar and watch the chefs at work. The bistro also looks very stylish with a casual atmosphere. The oyster, mackerel and sole were delicious with well-chosen wines. For us, Troef has been an absolute hit to celebrate our 3-year wedding anniversary!! Our thanks are great :)

In terms of food, I think it is currently the top 5 in Amsterdam, no stars, but really great food, just order everything and you will not be disappointed

I had the loveliest dinner date at Troef on Monday night. Our waitress was delightful, helpful, and sweet. I had the ham appetizer and the tenderloin. I highly recommend both and I cannot wait to return.

This place was delicious! Can’t recommend it enough and staff was so friendly. We got the Langoustine in Smoked Butter and Mussel first- drastically different but so unique and tasty. For our main meal we got the Vol-Au-Vent and a side of fries + salad. We got dessert as well, the pistachio ice cream is amazing! Savory and sweet. Definitely add this to your restaurant list for Amsterdam.

Food was good but service was very slow. Our server ignored us when what seemed like over a half hour when our order was to be taken.

We had dinner while on a trip to Amsterdam and it was so good! The restaurant has a really cozy vibe to it. The service was really friendly and attentive. The food, cocktails, and wine we had were very delicious. We liked the concept of the menus; you get a starters menu first and then a dinner menu after. We ordered a couple things to start (caesar salad and caviar) then ordered a few things from the main menu (mackarel, tenderloin, lobster, and fries). We loved every dish. We couldn't decide which wine we wanted, so the sommelier made a recommendation which paired really well with our food. He came by our table a few times as well to check in on things. We would love to go back here!

A French restaurant with a warm atmosphere. Among the bite-sized delicacies that came first, fried chicken balls were delicious. We chose fish as the main course. It was an enjoyable experience.

The food, atmosphere, ambiance are great. Seriously a jem on the Amsterdams food scene. The upsetting point was that they brought the final bill and included already the prepayment of 60euros. When I noticed they changed it. Then the waiter poorer us a TAP water saying “to make it up for you”. I’m speechless..

It had been on our list of places to eat for a long time and what a great place! Super staff, amazing food and a mega wine list. The absolute highlight: the oysters with eel.

Just window dressing. Completely overrated. Restaurant where the staff pushes consumption and becomes unpleasant when you don't have “starter, main course, dessert”. As a main course, my daughter had a total of two ravioli on her plate. The bill was the highest of our stay in Amsterdam and we left Troef still hungry. I completely advise against it.

One of the best restaurants in Amsterdam. We were greeted warmly, service was attentive throughout the whole evening and food was elaborate and flavourful. Pace of service was perfect and the restaurant is beautifully designed. Shoutout to the waiter, a tall, Dutch, young, blond chap that made our evening very enjoyable!

Charming, but the finer points are missing. Everything is just too salty, and some dishes are unnecessarily complex. The service consisted of too many different faces at our table. In addition, the seating for a party of four people was not ideal, even though we had made reservations ages in advance. The acoustics made it difficult to hear each other well.

The place itself is very stylish and makes you feel as if you are somewhere in France! The service is very nice as well. We enjoyed the food and great selection of wines. Tiramissu is very special and unusual because of olives that perfectly infused in; definitely a must-try! Ribeye is another great dish I would recommend to try there.

Blown away. This is a truly excellent restaurant that delivered perfectly from start to finish. An experience of the highest standard that is everything you want from modern dining. To be greeted by a host who shakes your hand and smiles like an old friend, is as warm a welcome I have ever experienced for dinner. The service continued all night long in the same vein. Our waitress was a delight - friendly, professional, relaxed, genuine, passionate and attentive. The same went for our interactions with the other wait staff and the brilliant somm. The cooking was close to perfect all night. Whilst the chicken thigh, and oyster “bites”, the eel and potato starter, and the prawns were all exemplary, the star of the night was the eel and mussels on brioche - an absurdly good plate of food you hope never ends. The Madeline served for a desert was all we could manage after a big meal, but it was the perfect partner to the end of our bottle of Riesling. The wine list is extensive and covers all price points - and there is good selection of interesting options by the glass. Including a GOOD red burgundy, that didn’t break the bank - rare in London, where we live. Thank you to the owners of this restaurant for creating an environment we want to come back to forever. Keep doing what you are doing. In my view this restaurant is worth visiting Amsterdam for alone.

Top cooking delivered in an unassuming relaxed manner just what i love. Well worth venturing to this locale. Easily the best meal we had in Amsterdam and we ate in some fancy places. All four of us were delighted by each course and a really good sensibly priced wine list.

Price Quality ratio was off. Portion sizes are small - it is rather a “tasting experience” than an eating one, so be prepared to leave the restaurant hungry whilst putting down 100+€. The food was good, we had a starter and a main course- yet the side salad that was recommended to us due to the small portion sizes of the main dishes was a catastrophe (the option was between fries or the salad). Iceberg salad with cheese grated on top. After refusing to accept this as a salad no one came to us with another option but rather just left it as it was. Service was below average for the calibre of restaurant Troef presents itself to be. To end this on a positive note, the wine list was very good.

Troef captivated me with its cozy ambiance and innovative cuisine, but the Beetroot Carpaccio was a standout. This beautifully plated dish, with its thinly sliced, marinated beetroot topped with goat cheese, walnuts, and a drizzle of balsamic, was a symphony of flavors. The earthiness of the beetroot paired with the creaminess of the cheese and the crunch of walnuts was perfection.

Amazing place with super service , good food and fantastic wines!! I real must to visit. we had 3 courses . Tournedos Rossini as mean dish was super tastefull.

We had an excellent dinner here. The welcome was extremely warm and friendly. We had comfortable seats at the bar, so we were able to watch the kitchen staff work their magic. The food was great throughout. We started with potato rusti with caviar and pork cheek bites. Both were tasty. As starters we then had the smoked beef loin and the eel. Again excellent dishes. For the following course we had the langoustine and the scallop. Both were great but the langoustine was one of the best things i ve ever eaten. Our main courses (oxtail and winter cod) were delicious as well. We finished with the almond and 'boerejongens' desserts. They were nice but a bit too heavy on the alcohol for our taste. Service was very attentive throughout. Our waiter Tijmen asked us for preferred timing of receiving our next dish and was able to give some good advice on wine pairing. The ambiance, look and acoustics of the restaurant are also great. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

A 5 star experience from start to finish. We sat at the bar so we could watch the kitchen in action the whole night. The food they served was outstanding, great selection of wines, they made us feel very welcome, relaxed and unhurried. And it was such good value for the price. Highly recommended.

Right from the warm welcome, the service was top-notch. The ambiance is good for a romantic evening, with dim lighting adding to the cozy yet sophisticated vibe. I think this place deserves 5 star out of 5. People working here are very kind and nice, food is really delicious and atmosphere is quite elegant. We had a very nice time here with someone I really care and we spent 3 hours and didn't even notice how time went by. One small tip for people who will visit: it is not a price/performance place - so be careful if you are on a budget. The portions are relatively small so it is more like a finedine experience.

Good atmosphere and nice stuff despite the Hanos. Niels was very attentive and the dishes were certainly special. Price quality is fine. Do not get me wrong. It wasn't cheap but very Approve ratio to the price!

We had a lovely evening at Troef. Had the best seat in the house looking right into the kitchen. Great vegetarian options and excellent wine options. Would have liked a bit more guidance on the wine variations but overall a great experience!

Good reception upon arrival, nice atmosphere! Ribeye was a bit less, it was quite thin and the service also recommended a wine with the main course but did not ask for a price indication and at checkout there were two glasses of red wine for 16 euros each... too bad, personally not very polite as you say. I would advise you to give the most expensive wine and not mention it...

We were welcomed by Bob, shook hands but not seen for the rest of the evening. We had something to celebrate and had asked for a romantic table but were placed at the bar. We were given a table next to an overcrowded coat rack where we also stuffed our own coats. Little space at the boringly set table. We chose chicory from the bite menu. 5 tiny, barely filled chicory leaves for 14 euros. Scallop pieces small and tasteless, langoustine pieces also tasteless because of the overpowering sauce. As a main course we chose rye and ravioli. Again the same color foam twice, again too small portions and the ray in particular was completely dwarfed by the bay leaf sauce. The lettuce was much too sour. Fries were tasty but actually inappropriate in such a restaurant. Apparently they don't eat vegetables in Troef. Had 4 different waiters at the table, but no one listened to the name Bob.

We had a great experience. Upon entering, a warm welcome from the host and the cozy atmosphere, it immediately felt good. We had a seat at the bar which was very nice because we could see the kitchen brigade at work. The service was incredibly attentive and friendly. The dishes are incredibly tasty and well portioned. The wine selection was great, including the wine that could be ordered by the glass! We will definitely come back!

Price quality not that great atmosphere definitely great. All in all I wouldn't go again. Too salty and acidic in in 3 out of 5 dishes we ordered.

Incredible place.... food and service were amazing.

Delicious food, some appetizers and 3 dishes. Very nice flavors and combinations. We sat at the bar and you have a view of the kitchen. Very beautiful to see. What I found quite bizarre to see was the chef or manager who first ate from a vegetable container (no gloves on) and later licked the ice cream spoon while preparing a desert. Spoon was placed back in a container of water and used again later. You wouldn't expect that in this segment. So a bit of mixed feeling.

Fantastic (savory) food, service is Amsterdam friendly and they take plenty of time for you. The case itself is really beautiful!! The bar bites beforehand are exactly what you want. The dish with brioche and mussel is the tastiest thing I (and my table companions) have eaten in 2023! Insane! We were only very disappointed with the desserts. We are completely in favor of only serving a scoop of ice cream with 1 or 2 elements! But then you need a really good ice cream base and unfortunately this was anything but the case with all three desserts. Too bad, but it didn't spoil the fun. A good cognac or whiskey wouldn't go amiss either ;) Will be back soon because we had a great evening!

Service, interieur en wijn zijn goed; eten en prijs/kwaliteit stelt teleur. De artisjok als tussengerecht is met name een smakeloze brioche. De “hele kreeft voor 2 personen” is een bordje met stukjes kreeft. Een droog pasteitje met een bol smakeloos vanille ijs als dessert, zoals je die bij een pannenkoekenrestaurant verwacht. Voor de prijzen die worden gehanteerd kun je een stuk beter eten elders in de stad. Er moet veel gebeuren wil ik hier terugkomen.

Bourgondisch genoten! De gerechten zijn lekker bereid met veel smaak, extra klontje boter en vanille. De sfeer was casual chique/gezellig met vriendelijke obers die goed meedenken over de smaak combinaties van de gerechten met wijn.
