Tried their spicy pork tonkotsu, which I find quite OK actually. The spiciness is not as strong as I had expected from a ramen, but I think it is adjusted to the local taste. What's nice is that they have a bubble tea shop in the same location, so you can order drinks from there instead.

Finally, a ramen spot worth raving about! It’s been ages since I truly enjoyed ramen, but this place brought the magic back. The broth was rich, the noodles perfect—and the original Korean chicken super addictive. Crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. I’ll definitely be back.

I looooove this place. Not too many dish choices but theres definitely something for everyone and everything is so delicious. I always get ramen and most certainly the takoyaki and korean honey butter fried chicken. I visit umai every time im in Utrecht.

Big place but not really a Ramen atmosphere.... I ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and my companion a Shoyu Ramen, these cost 17.50 each which is a bit on the expensive side, even in the heart of Amsterdam you can find them for less. The Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen disappointed me, this was mainly due to the broth, the toppings were very good (except for the egg which was hard-boiled, cold and very white). The char su pork belly was almost perfect.... Only the broth was very disappointing, it could have been more pronounced and much spicier!! The noodles were very good, a real waste of broth, which was also the case with the shoyu version! Shame

Excellent ramen that brings me back to our trip to Japan

This is my 4th time here and damn Tonkutsu ramen is so good 🥹❤️ ​​I had the Shoyu Pork Tonkutsu ramen. I'll order some kimchi and the cucumbers... then I'll be nice and full.

It took an insanely long time. The food was mediocre. €17.50 for ramen and €15 for a curry, which was simply from a S&B box. One small carrot, three baby potatoes.

Ramen had too little broth & taste was blend. There was no fully vegan one. I ordered vegetarian & took egg out.

Spicy sweet chicken and the garlic fried chicken was good! The unagi don rice was okay, it was quite dry but the miso souo balanced it. The spicy pork tonkatsu was not that spicy and had more garlic flavour but you can add more chili oil so it was ok. Nice restaurant vibe and suitable for large groups

it’s combined with a boba place and small asian store , i got spicy pork tonkotsu ramen which was okay but the flavor broth are not strong, there was no spicyness at all. the korean fried chicken was soo good (garlic soy). the unagi rice was great. suitable for all groups, my group was of 9 and they had fast service

Shall not be fool with 4.6⭐review! I was expecting a decent 4.6 stars ramen, but it turn out to be no more than a 3 stars. The spicy ramen is not spicy at all. The unagi don (eel with rice) was made with jasmin rice rather than with Japanese rice which is what you are expecting from a "Japanese" restaurant. If you arr looking for an okay ramen this is your place, but definitely not a 4.6. The restaurant have some kind of prize winning lucky draw if you review the place. I did not participate, but I think that's how they get their high reviews.

Very tasty food, good yakitori and kaarage, the Katsu curry chicken is highly recommended!

They refuse to serve a glass of tap water to my son of 3 year and after spending more 50€ in a dinner. I hope we all decide not to go to restaurant where water is just a business.

I don't understand why this restaurant has 4.6 stars. Food was okay, nothing special. Spicy pork ramen was not spicy at all and pork in the ramen was a bit dry and tasted a bit old, broth was a bit bland but otherwise fine. Unagi Don was served on jasmin rice. Sweet and spicy Korean chicken was not sweet and a little spicy (the chicken was juicy though).

I've eaten at Umai Ramen several times. The food is delicious and the service is fast. The restaurant is spacious and attractively decorated with plenty of seating. There's a small shop next door with Asian products. The octopus balls and the Miso Pork Tonkotsu are absolute must-trys!

Great flavor, big portions :) The ramen bowl was a lot of food for my wife so next time we will ask one bowl and share. I can't have enough takoyakis, I highly recommend it.

We went here on a Sunday afternoon after reading positive reviews on Google. I respect everyone’s opinion, but I honestly don’t understand why people have left such high scores for this place. Granted; the decor of the restaurant is nice, and we liked the shared space concept with the bubble tea place and grocery store on either side, but let’s talk about the food; We ordered our ramen and the speed with which it was served to us, can only mean that this was not freshly made to order. The fact that we were the very first (and only) customers there makes the serving speed even more suspicious. The flavor of the ramen confirmed our suspicions; the soup was off; it had a weird taste and it wasn’t satisfying at all; mostly salty. The bamboo shoots were clearly from a can and had a terrible flavor. The pork was ‘porky’, giving that strange flavor when pork isn’t very fresh. Really the only thing that was fresh was the tuft of herbs they put on top. Afterwards we were left with a metallic taste in our mouths and we were very thirsty, indicating that a lot of msg/salt was used. Good ramen gives you a satisfying, wholesome and cleansing feeling when it’s done right. This gave us a bloated, almost nauseating feeling. About the service; mediocre. The Asian lady that took our order was clearly distracted by something while she was at our table and was quarreling with other staff throughout our meal. Finally, for 2 bowls of ramen of this quality and one (small) pot of tea we thought that €45 was very steep. As much as we were excited to try this place out, we will not be returning here.

The food is excellent, and the restaurant's decor reminded me of our trip to Japan. The staff is also very friendly. If you arrive before 6 p.m., you can also browse the Asian supermarket.

It's been about the 10th time I've visited Umai Ramen. I've always recommended it to others, but I've never left a positive review. The ramen soup is always delicious, and the service is always friendly. There's a very cozy atmosphere. Today we were there and asked if we could order some bubble tea from next door. They were closing in three minutes, but they were willing to wait a bit for us while they cleaned. The service arranged it. Fantastic!

The staff at this place are thoroughly knowledgeable about how the ingredients they use are sourced and prepared. That alone is already a good reason to visit. Restaurants like this are hard to find in the Netherlands. Especially, East Asian restaurants (Japanese, Korean, some Chinese) in Netherlands have often lowered my expectations over time. But this one raised it again!! We ordered the veggie curry and ramen, and asked if they could remove the soya egg from the ramen. The staff immediately asked we were vegan, then explained that their ramen noodles contain egg but they can change with udon noodles, without any extra charge!!! That kind of care and clarity was so impressive. Our food arrived quite fast, and every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh. Aside from the bamboo, all the vegetables were clearly fresh, with a delightful crunch that proved they were cooked straight from the fresh condition. Each bite was like a symphony of crisp, vegetable cell walls bursting in harmony, and this makes ramen more enjoyable. The soy-based broth was also clean and satisfying, leaving no lingering aftertaste in my mouth, thirty minutes after the meal. We’re happy to have discovered another must-visit restaurant in Utrecht. I wish we’ll meet the same staff again when we revisit! (Lastly, to many Japanese restaurants in the Netherlands—that try to cover old and unfresh vegetables with heavy Chinese spices and pepper: Please visit here and learn something. If your ingredients are fresh and you know with what you're cooking, it can be very tasty without using too many spices :) 한국의 저렴한 일식당정도의 맛은 나와요! 무엇보다 제가 갔을때는 버섯과 야채류가 엄청 신선했어요. 네덜란드의 식중독 걱정하게 만드는 정체불명의 이상한 일식당 고르지 말구 여기 오세요. 다만 한식은 잘 모르겠습니다.

From the moment you walk in, it feels unmistakably Japanese: a blossoming sakura tree, rows of beckoning lucky cats, and bright Daruma dolls set the scene. Even the chandeliers and cushion covers echo classic Japanese design. It’s gorgeous—yet the food deserves the spotlight. It's hands down top3 I have ever tried and I have been to Japan 3 times so far.

Chicken katsu curry was very tasty nothing bad I have to say about it and the atmosphere was very nice cute and nice music too and the service was friendly and polite.

As a passionate ramen enthusiast, I visited this place with my partner and went for the mushroom ramen, served with a whole egg and a clear broth. It was absolutely phenomenal. The noodles — somewhere between thick and thin — were perfectly cooked and simply delicious. Honestly, the best I’ve had so far (aside from a certain ramen spot in Stockholm 😉). The staff was genuinely kind and clearly passionate about what they do. And the name of the restaurant itself, Umai — meaning "delicious" in Japanese — couldn’t be more fitting. If you're looking for a solid spot to grab some delicious ramen, definitely check out Umai Ramen. The food is great, and the menu is diverse. You can tell they put a lot of care into it. The service is friendly and surprisingly fast, even when it's busy. Plus, the prices are reasonable for the quality. Honestly, it's just one of those places you'll keep coming back to.

Banger of a Tonkotsu Ramen in Utrecht

Not enough green crunchy food Thick curry sauce with 3 fried shrimps without fresh ingredients and no fresh herbs to be seen, not a nice plate... and no, too expensive for various fried snacks... and the room is empty and filled with loud teenage music, which is a shame.

Awesome Korean Fried Chicken. One of the best from Utrecht, crispy and with a nice garlic soy sauce. The price is quite good and the food is delicious. Totally a place that is worth the visit.

The dining environment is great. The ramen is delicious, the barbecued pork is tender and tasty, and the tonkotsu soup is very fragrant and not too salty. The Korean original fried chicken doesn't feel like it has anything to do with Korea, but it's still delicious and the dough is very crispy. The takoyaki is very Japanese (soft). The eel in the eel rice was delicious, but the sauce was too much and the rice was a bit too salty. It would be better if there was more miso soup included. The beer is delicious.

What a nice place in Leidsche Rijn!

We love ramen but the bowl was not that 'Umai', just very 'Meh', I'm sorry. Coming from someone who went to Japan several times, had ramen in NL at other places and also makes better stuff at home with some simple ingredients, I have no idea why the broth was so neutral? It's so easy to get a bit more of that umami flavour in there, why is it not there?? The 'best' thing was the 'soy egg' (Ajitsuke Tamago). I read that most people who leave a better review order other things than actually ramen so I guess this isn't really the best ramen place and maybe we will try the other side dishes once. Service and atmosphere was good though.

Visited Umai Ramen for a quick bite ahead of a 21:20 movie at the Pathé. We showed up right before the kitchen was closing, but they stayed open to prepare us food! So gracious and thankful for the staff who took care of us at the last moment. We had ramen and an order of Korean Honey Butter Chicken. Delicious!

I strongly disagree with Selin’s review. I come here roughly once a week. The Ebi Katsu Curry is hearty and warm and perfect on a winter or fall evening. I’m very happy that this restaurant is in the neighborhood and providing tasty curry and ramen! The Korean fried chicken is also excellent.

Nice atmosphere and friendly, very accommodating staff. They readily offered a vegetarian alternative for the Katsu Curry, which was absolutely delicious! The vegetarian Takoyaki was a dream come true, one of the best foods I’ve ever had. They offered complimentary miso soup and radish which was soo delicious as well! The food felt like a warm, nourishing hug after a long, cold winter day. We’d love to visit and eat at Umai Ramen again. Thank you for the delicious food and the generous service!

Ramen and all ingredients cold, chicken with the smell of rotten chicken, gyoza with minced chicken and cabbage together. Waiters informed- no feedback. Sad cuz last time 4 months ago was amazing. :( so short time so big changes.

FOOD we ordered the gyoza chicken and yakitori as side dishes. Both were very tasty and unique. I highly recommend the yakitori. For our main courses we ordered the tempura curry rice dish and the shoyu pork ramen. The portions are big and the food is delicious! If you want to taste some good ramen dishes, I suggest you pay them a visit. We also drank the jasmine tea. Both of us are tea enthousiast and I can tell you this one was very good! The food-price ratio was definitely fair considering this moments economy! SERVICE The staff was very very kind. Took our orders very quick. There was a small delay on the dish my gf ordered but even then they apologized for the inconvenience. So all in all very good as well! ATMOSPHERE As you can see in the pictures the dining place is B-E-A-U-tiful! You get an Asian vibe almost immediately. It's so beautiful! IN SHORT I highly recommend this place. My gf and I are definitely going to visit it again. And sidenote they also give you a mint when leaving/paying the bill, a thing I can appreciate very much! So please go visit them, you won't be disappointed.

Of course, every Ramen restaurant is different. We have had almost all the top ones in Utrecht. I can say that this does not fall under Authentic ramen and I left my food for the first time. Unfortunately I won't be coming back here the Jasmine tea was nice :)
