Very unfriendly staff. The quality of the fish is severely substandard. For a tasty piece of fish, you are better off going to the Over de Kant Havenpaleis; at least there you get good service and good fish.

Normally I always get a 'patatje oorlog' here, but not this time; I stuck to drinks. Ugh, that place looked filthy. What happened here? Last year it looked clean and the service was much better. No, this is not a place I can recommend. Things really need to change here if I ever want to buy fries again, let alone fish.

On our last visit in July 26, we were served by Anna and being a customer of this place since last 26 years, I can say she stands out, helpful, efficient and customer oriented. She saw a customer lose his fish to seagull and promptly made him a new one. This is what I call customer service and how you retain customers. Well done Anna.

I come all the way from Amsterdam to eat fish fillets here. Always nice and fresh, crispy, and not greasy. The fries with peanut sauce are also highly recommended. You get served quickly and they are very friendly. Compared to Amsterdam, the prices here are affordable. I will keep coming back here ❤️!

I walked into the place and waited for my turn. A young acquaintance came in and was immediately approached by the dark-haired lady to order. The boy said it wasn't his turn yet, to which the lady replied, "That doesn't matter to me, but it does." He then said he didn't know what he was going to choose yet, and only then was she willing to help me. It was because my family was craving it; otherwise, I would have left. There were a lot of white strands in the kibbeling and lekkerbek. Sent it for testing, and it turned out to be parasites. Never eating there again! I wish I had walked away and gone somewhere else.

Simple in design, but very good quality, especially the fish products. The kibbeling (battered and fried fish), fish sandwiches, and the portion of fries is really large. I highly recommend it for a midday snack!

The kibbeling was briefly pre-fried and then fried again. In my opinion, it was too crispy, meaning you could barely taste the fish. The accompanying remoulade sauce wasn't to my taste either. A shame.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Very disappointing experience at Vispaleis Havenpaleis in Scheveningen. The fries were limp, tasteless, and didn't even have any salt. As if that wasn't bad enough, I received the fries in a wet bag. The concept is apparently a paper cone inside a fry bag with mayonnaise squirted inside, but the result is mostly a limp, soggy mess. The 'berenklauw' (bear claw) was not a success either. The texture and taste reminded me of old chewing gum: tough and far from fresh. Additionally, the peanut sauce was a huge letdown. The taste was unpleasant, and the whole thing, together with the fries, honestly looked like there was a pile of poop in the bag. Not exactly something that makes you hungry. What I found even more annoying was the hygiene. The employee was eating while serving customers. She wore gloves while working, but kept those same gloves on while eating as well. In addition, she put her fingers in her mouth several times and then continued with her duties, including touching and serving food. That did not create a fresh impression and came across as very unprofessional. Furthermore, I saw with my own eyes that one of the employees walked outside with her gloves on to smoke a cigarette. She then came back inside, kept the same gloves on, and continued with her work. Because I was standing right next to her, I could see this clearly. That gave me little confidence in the hygiene of the establishment. Moreover, I was served my milkshake dirty. There was milkshake on the outside of the cup, meaning I had to clean it myself before I could drink from it. It was handed to me like that without any apology. That, too, does not exactly contribute to a well-groomed impression. The only positive point was the price. For fries with mayonnaise, a croquette sandwich, and a Mexicano with mayonnaise, we paid about €9, which is certainly affordable. Unfortunately, a low price cannot make up for the disappointing quality of the food and the poor hygiene. For me, this was not a successful experience, and I would not be quick to eat here again.

After driving for an hour specifically for the fish at Vispaleis, I am deeply disappointed. The fries were very hard, and my lekkerbekje was very small with a very hard crust, with half of it separate from the fish. It looks like it had been fried a few times. It used to be my favorite spot, but not anymore.

We go here every now and then; we drive about 40 minutes specifically to grab a nice meal. We drove there again on April 30th. We ordered fries, lekkerbek (a type of fried fish), frikandel (a type of sausage), and a pork belly. The fries were terribly hard, so they were fried way too long. The frikandel seemed chewy, so I don't know what brand it is, but it wasn't really tasty. The pork belly was absolutely amazing, but the lekkerbek was inedible; the crust was thick and hard and looked like it had been fried two or three times. Also, a large piece of it had come off the fish. Furthermore, part of the lekkerbek was inedible. Only the middle section was reasonably edible. I don't know if the Vispaleis has changed anything or if there is a new owner or something. But it has really gone downhill over the last three years. I hope that if they read this, they will do something about it, because it was always worth driving 40 minutes for, but if it stays like this, we won't be going there anymore.

Return visit. Herring old and therefore not tasty. All the fried food, kibbeling and such is pre-fried...yuck...This is really a tourist spot...but to tourists too, I would say...drive another 500 meters to Simonis aan de Haven.

A great place for a quick bite at the port. I had the battered fish with garlic sauce. The cooked fish is then dipped in a deep-frying pan to reheat it (the result is double-fried fish). €6.10 per serving. Delicious and quick. Watch out for the birds!

Today I walked into the shop. Two employees didn't even look at me or greet me, even though neither of them was doing anything. They just kept looking around, except at the customer. Simple guys. I made it easy for them by walking away. I wouldn't wish a cent on such people.

I absolutely recommend eating fish here. Because I was going to another place nearby, I came here specifically without eating anything, just to eat fish. It was the tastiest fish I have ever eaten.

I drove all the way from Emmen for some really tasty Scheveningen fish. I ordered some fries with 'oorlog' (war fries) and some kibbeling. The fish was pre-fried, which is a major detriment to the quality. There was so much oil in the batter that I spontaneously got heartburn. To top it all off, when I got home I spent the whole night on the toilet. My friend ordered squid rings, the same applies to them. In fact, he had more batter than fish. He also stuffed the kibbeling with fat. The quality is mediocre and far too expensive for what you get. I will never do it again. To illustrate, I will send a photo of the squid.

We hadden veel zin in frietjes met pindasaus (apart) Dat kon niet. Ze deden eerst een laag pindasaus, dan frietjes en daar weer pindasaus op. Bah, slappe frietjes verwerkt in de saus. Zo in de afvalbak. Hoezo saus kan niet apart.....

We ordered kibbelings, kipcorn, and fries. The kibbelings and kopcorn were delicious. The fries were okay, but not particularly good.

If you want to eat fish at the harbor, you hope for the best quality. The first impression was clean, but when we saw the large quantities of pre-fried portions on the counter, we began to have doubts. The two portions we ordered were ready very quickly. From the very first bite, we could tell that a large amount of breading had been used. This didn't leave a pleasant mouthfeel. The quality of the fish leads us to believe that it wasn't just reheated food, but previously frozen fish. The price would have been reasonable if it had tasted good. We therefore threw most of it in the trash. It's not the owner's fault that seagulls immediately come and attack, stealing fish in the process. The first herring served was edible, but unusually cold. Unfortunately, not recommended.

We often visited this fish palace in the 80s. A portion of fries with mayonnaise in combination with a can of soda was enough to get through the day. After the fries we went to the beach to see what was going on there. Since then we have never visited again, because over the years we have discovered other places where you can enjoy yourself. However, I have “not” forgotten this fish palace, because this place is still part of my youth.

I've known the fish stall for at least 20 years. And it's simply top-notch. The best food in the world.

After years of being a loyal and regular customer, I visited this shop today in the hope of the trusted quality and service. Unfortunately, I was instead met with a staggering level of unprofessionalism and disinterest, which makes me feel compelled to write this review. Upon entering, I immediately went to the counter where there was a clear sign that said "Order here." There I found two employees who were currently involved in an exuberant personal conversation. I was ignored for at least five minutes, even though I was standing right in front of them. No attempt was made to acknowledge me as a customer, let alone help me. After a long wait, I was finally approached with audible reluctance, with the tone and body language making it abundantly clear that my presence was experienced as disruptive. When I politely asked if I could order here, I was astonished to receive the snarky answer: “That's not fast enough!” This is not only an extremely customer-unfriendly response, it also shows a dire lack of professionalism and respect. I seriously wonder how a business can thrive when PAYING customers, the ones who essentially pay for the rent, salaries and the survival of the store, are treated this way. The basic principles of customer-oriented entrepreneurship apply: the customer is king. If an employee experiences personal problems, this is truly regrettable. But that should never, ever trickle down to the workplace. A customer is not an emotional punching bag. The way I was treated suggests that they would rather not have customers, while the adage “mass is cash register” should encourage hospitality and efficiency. I really don't understand how a business thinks they can be profitable when they are actively driving customers away. If this is the way you operate, then I can see why you are losing customers. And that is, without exaggeration, entirely due to our own staff. ps: I have never been someone who sets out to put others down, especially when it concerns a family business. But if no one makes their voice heard, nothing will ever change. The generation of employees who used to work here understood the art of customer focus like no other. You were treated with warmth and respect. Unfortunately, that attitude is hard to find today. It would not be an unnecessary luxury if this old guard gave the current employees thorough training in basic customer friendliness!

Delicious kibbles. A real fish stall with no frills, just the way it has to be. The staff is friendly and to our surprise, German was spoken.

The food is ok, the girl behind the counter was rude and shouted something (in Dutch) about Germans coming to the Netherlands and not speaking Dutch when she didn't understand my request for a Herring sandwich (I'm Swedish and I spoke English).

If you fancy fish, go to this address, you can eat everything besides fish. If you don't feel like cooking, you're looking for fish, then you've come to the right place. Cozy atmosphere, great service and something for the whole family. The view is beautiful, it is not necessary to reserve a sufficient spot, but it is useful when the weather is nice. Affordable and good service and price.

You are definitely lucky to have this place and if it is near you. The view is absolutely amazing. You have to eat standing up at their own tables. However, there are many places to sit nearby and public seating. I hope you enjoy your meal as much as I do.

A very nice place in Scheveningen with good kibbeling and fries. The staff is nice and fast. There are several places to eat both inside and outside. There are many seagulls that also like the food and you are warned about that. All in all, a nice place with good food that is not too expensive.

Hmm, but how good are herrings with a little chopped onion, 2 or 3 and I would have happily eaten a 4th too, the lekker bekies, with their potato fries with mayonnaise, a treat especially when it's a bit cold outside with the north wind blowing in your ears, that's when herrings are even better.

Vispaleis has been a regular snack bar for years when I want to get something to eat for the family. Haven't been there for a while because the quality was disappointing, think of soggy fries, that was in the summer with flag day but that could be due to the crowds on such a day I thought then. Yesterday I was positively surprised the fries were reasonably fried without asking, not the soggy stuff like in recent years. But next time I will probably have to act like a nagging customer and ask for the fries to be fried well so that all the fries taste nice and crispy. What struck me was that there were new staff members who were unknown to me and no one from the old guard, that surprised me. In the final judgment I give the snack bar a good grade because it has a good price-quality ratio overall. There are points for improvement or criticism, the menu does have a hamburger special, but you can't order a separate hamburger, the staff can only do that with a bun. The positive thing compared to other reviews is that the staff did not react rudely or anything, but were friendly. And the fact that they do not sell a single hamburger is not the fault of the staff but of the owner who does not consider that customers sometimes want something simple for children. While we are at it in 2024, it is also remarkable that this snack bar is not really findable online. - they have had a Facebook page since 2012 but there is no menu or anything like that online - they are also not findable with home delivery or uber eats etc. In the past, when I came practically monthly, I also had their phone number so I sometimes called to order and then I only had to pick it up and pay, but because I could not find much online in 2024, I have no idea whether they even have a phone number for customers. This snack bar apparently has to really run on 2 factors: - tourism and not the ones who read the review I'm afraid - local citizens who know what to expect from this snack bar through word of mouth. The peanut sauce with the fries was very tasty. All in all, I have doubts about whether I would recommend this snack bar to friends and family etc., things seem to have gotten better than in recent years, but unfortunately it is not yet at the level of ease of use etc. that you see in other companies in 2024, so hopefully some criticism towards the owner that he can look at or improve, because because I've been coming there longer, I know that when the owner is there himself, things are just a little bit different, so there is no ill will at the company. I've been coming to the harbor to eat there for many years. Unfortunately the quality has deteriorated significantly, the fries are soft and have an old chip fat taste. The Sate Stokjes are dead fried and chewy. The heartburn didn't take long to come. Won't eat there anymore.

We were given the wrong food and asked what kind of food it was, to which we received no answer. Afterwards we asked if this was our food, to which there was no answer. Afterwards we were treated rudely in front of the other customers. The food is ok, nothing special, but because of the service we will never go there again! We have rarely experienced such poor service.
