We had a great experience with the 5 of us. The waiters were very welcoming and the food was worth its price. A lot of Japanese locals seem to frequent here ごちそうさまでした!

Speaking of Yakiniku, Kanata is the place to go! This time I ordered the Wagyu Marinated Karubi, which was recommended to me. It was the most delicious kalbi I've ever had. I love the Premium Beef Tongue with Konbu, and I've vowed to always order the kalbi next time. It's the best.

Never judge a book by its cover... from the outside, you'd walk right past it, but if you can see past that, you'll be treated to a taste sensation like no other. I was taken for my birthday and we had the premium menu. It's a hefty expense, but you get an unforgettable experience in return. What lovely, spontaneous staff and fantastic food! 👌🙌👌 You're partly responsible for the outcome, because you cook the various cuts of meat yourself. But with that quality, you can't go wrong. Definitely worth repeating!

We went here in the lunch time, decided to get Wagyu set and Premium set (with beef tongue). It was super nice, really juicy and delicious! Really reminded me of actual J-BBQ i had years back in Japan. The waiter was nice and patient in explaining the menu. They also offered dessert that normally gets shown in the dinner time so we decided to enjoy Matcha Affogato which was superb. Recommended!!

Had dinner here with my parents for my bday and we loved it! The meat is so good, full of flavor and melts in the mouth. The side dishes were so yummy and the atmosphere fits the place so well. It's hard to find anything in NL that comes close to the true Japanese experience, but this restaurant really does. Being welcomed with an "irashaimase!" and Japanese staff was a good start. 2 Different Japanese draft beers (Sapporo & Asahi) and lots of Japanese drinks like Sake and Umeshu / ume wine. The meat was absolutely up to Japanese standards as well. Ofcourse you pay for it. But some other places you pay for it and get nothing near Japanese standards. We had the Wagyu platter for 135€. Enough for 4 people to eat from if you combine it with some other small dishes. Delicious! (Oishii!) All in all, not cheap, but truly felt like dining in Japan. We will come back here for special occasions regularly! ごちそうさまでした　！ ありがとうございます！

Best restaurant in Amsterdam hands down. We go here for every birthday, anniversary, and special occasion and are on a first name basis with our favorite server Nao-san. My Japanese mother has high expectations and was so impressed when she visited and wants to go back again each time. Highly recommend the course menus and garlic rice!

From the outside, the restaurant looks a bit rundown, but nothing could be further from the truth. Inside, I received a very friendly welcome in Japanese, and the restaurant looks very well-maintained. The food was delicious, the menu extensive, and everything felt and tasted authentic, as if I were practically in Japan. The service was friendly, and the drinks were also explained very clearly with how the chosen drink would affect and enhance the flavor of the food. Because of everything mentioned above, it was well worth the price. And I'd love to come back.

When you arrive you might miss it because it looks so small. Once inside it's cozy. Friendly staff, they speak English and Japanese. And understand a bit of dutch. We had a wonderful time at this Japanese yakiniku restaurant. The Wagyu beef was delicious, and the menu was generous and satisfying. The service, fast, friendly, and efficient, also contributed to a very pleasant experience. The only downside: the dessert, which was a little subpar compared to the rest of the meal.

This is one of the best restaurants I dined in. The quality of the meat is beyond anything I imagined. We had a reservation for 6 PM and were told at the time of booking that we would have 2 hours to dine. However, when we arrived and were actually dining, we were informed that last orders had to be placed by 7:10 PM, and when we tried to place our final order, we were told items were sold out. This is our fifth visit, and in the past, staff used to replace the grill plate when it got dirty from marinades, but now the staff no longer changes the grill plates for us

The restaurant's atmosphere is also warm and stylish – perfect for a night out or a special occasion. In short: an absolute must for lovers of Japanese food and top-quality wagyu. The service was excellent. The staff was friendly, engaging in genuine conversation about our likes and dislikes, and provided clear explanations about the different types of meat and the origins of each piece. This personal touch created a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. The portions were more than ample. The meat was of exceptional quality: tender, full of flavor, and absolutely worth it. One minor drawback, however, was the first course, consisting of kimchi and a few side dishes. It felt a bit detached from the rest of the menu; personally, I would have preferred some extra vegetables as a complement. All in all, a very successful experience. Definitely worth repeating—although I might go à la carte next time so we can choose our favorite dishes. The Wagyu was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening.

I came here for lunch and really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere at Wagyu Kanata on Buitenveldertselaan is calm, clean, and understated — perfect for a quiet midday meal. Also, the tabletop grill leaves a bit of smoke on your clothes, which might not be ideal if you’re heading somewhere after. I am really glad I tried it. If you’re a fan of Wagyu and want a slower, more curated dining experience — even at lunchtime — it’s worth a visit. I will definitely come back!

Cada vez que se servía un plato, explicaban de qué se trataba, lo que hacía que toda la experiencia gastronómica fuera muy personal y especial. ¡Y aquí hay una sorpresa divertida: incluso cené junto a una celebridad esa noche! Así que no sólo quedé completamente satisfecho con la increíble comida y el servicio, sino que también tuve un momento estrella pequeño e inesperado. Si buscas un auténtico restaurante Japonés que ofrezca comida fantástica, un servicio excelente y un ambiente cálido, todo ello sin gastar una fortuna, este es el lugar. ¡Muy recomendable!

Today is my sixth time to visit this restaurant. First of all, I want to say that the quality and taste of the food are great. I often go to Japan for vacation and I love Japanese food, so I am very happy to find such an authentic restaurant in Amsterdam. But today's dining experience is very unsatisfactory. It seems that someone is having a party in the restaurant today, so the waiter is a little overwhelmed. After a while, the menu was finally available. This is not a big problem. After the dishes were served, we wanted a pair of scissors to cut the grilled meat. I tried to make eye contact with the waiters to notice me because I was afraid of offending the waiters, so I didn't choose to raise my hand at first. After waiting for a long time, I had no choice but to raise my hand to signal the waiter. After a while, someone noticed me and I was able to express my needs (Regarding the simple request of wanting a pair of scissors, I got a positive answer after I first expressed it to a waiter, saying that it would be provided, but no one brought the scissors. I had to seek help from another waiter again. She quickly brought us the scissors. Yes, I needed to make such a request twice) It takes unreasonable time for the waiter to notice the needs of the guests. This is extremely unreasonable in a restaurant with an average of 100+ euros per person. This is actually the first time this happened in this restaurant. Their service and taste have always been great Especially the Japanese waiters. I was very impressed by a Japanese long-haired boy. He would remember whether the customer had been there before. He would really pay attention to details. His service attitude was always very good. So I almost always tipped every time I came here. But today I was really disappointed. I regret to give three stars. Today is rare. I knew I would not tip before I finished my meal. The weather was quite hot today. Maybe it was because of this reason that I magnified all the negative emotions I had today. If this factor was involved, I apologize. I was actually very tired today. After completing many things, I wanted to come to this restaurant to relax and enjoy the food as usual, but I had these unhappy things. At the end of the meal, I also felt that such good food began to become tasteless. Bad emotions ruined the great food. I just wanted to check out quickly and leave. Again, I am sorry to give three stars. I also think this is unfair to the service staff in the previous five times. My opinion is that if possible, please allocate staff reasonably to ensure the high quality and high standards of your store. I wish you a happy life:)

My fiancé took me here for my birthday, and it was hands down the best dinner I've ever had. We ordered à la carte and started with the wagyu gyoza and deep-fried tofu, they were decent but we probably should have gone straight for the yakiniku because we ended up struggling to finish everything 😅 We ordered the Beef Tongue Combo, the Marinated Iberico Pork, and the A5 Wagyu Platter (Kanata’s Omakase). Everything was incredible, one of my favorite parts was that we got to grill the meat ourselves so we could cook it exactly the way we liked. We had wagyu to our heart’s content but it didn’t take long before we hit our limit and started to feel a bit of a wagyu overload. Thankfully, we also ordered the wagyu tonkatsu ramen, which helped cut through the lingering fattiness and balanced the meal. The atmosphere was great, the staff were friendly, and overall it was an amazing experience. I’d definitely love to come back again 😊

The ambience was really very disappointing. At times it looked more like an unfinished construction site. The food and cocktails cannot do justice to the price. Cocktail tastes watered down, for example. The wines on offer are sometimes twice as expensive as in other restaurants (same wine). I like to spend money on good food and drink, but if, for example, the exact same bottle of wine is sold for twice as much as in another restaurant, then that only makes sense to me if the location of the restaurant is clearly different, which is not the case here. Unfortunately, the meat was also very disappointing considering the price. The staff was friendly. Unfortunately there was a bit of a lack of attention and more explanations about the food on offer would have been desirable. Conclusion: Unfortunately the first and last visit for us. Food, ambience and service do not do justice to the price.

The meat is real Wagu A5, you just have to see the photos, there is not much more to say. Pretty crazy flavor and experience. Get menu 125. The rice, wagu and garlic bowl is incredible, the chocolate cake is also nam and the green tea is also delicious. A ten for place!!

My go-to restaurant for wagyu beef with reasonable price. Definitely recommended!! My favorite cuts are chuck flap & short ribs. Have been here many times for their wagyu beef bbq and just eat them with rice, but recently tried their wagyu ramen and it’s also very yummy!! 🫶🏻 the place might be just like average restaurant, but you pay for their high quality meat.

First thing we noticed was that the staff was superkind and helpful in explaining the concepts of the dining-in BBQ and all the other options. We chose two course menus to share, it came with a big variety of different Wagyu cuts as well a few Spanish cuts and pork. The meat, especially the Wagyu melts on your tong like molten gold. Most in and around Amsterdam are over priced these days, but here you get worth you money absolutely. If you make a reservation, they’ll call you and ask if it’s for any special occasion, and they’ll slip in a nice little surprise (see photos)

One of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. I always bring my loved ones and friends here. This was my sixth visit, and I made a special effort to bring my parents when they came to visit me in Amsterdam. As always, the food was delicious, and there were no issues in terms of taste. I was already aware that bread is not served here, and because of my mother’s dietary condition, she needed to bring and eat a slice of bread. However, the staff warned us that bringing bread from outside was not allowed. I immediately apologized and ordered bread, but I was told that we should have ordered it in advance. The real issue, though, was the way this was communicated, it was done in an extremely RUDE manner, which I found very disappointing, especially considering Japanese culture, which I deeply respect. I was not disrespectful, yet I was treated disrespectfully, and it made me feel really bad. What was supposed to be a wonderful meal with my family, at a place I love, turned into a situation that made me feel compelled to write this review. To make matters worse, when we were paying the bill, my family wanted to pay in cash with a €200 banknote, but it was not accepted, and we were told to exchange it. This was also not communicated properly. Perhaps the staff was having a difficult day, I don’t know. But today, I left the restaurant feeling very upset. Experiencing this at one of my favorite places truly saddened me. I just wanted to share my feelings. Maybe I will visit again, and maybe none of this will happen next time but it did happen today.

We were 2 and went for the Premium Wagyu Menu at 125€ each. The menu was composed of no less than 10 small dishes, most of them containing wagyu. High quality food and never felt bored as all the meat pieces were unique in their own ways. I would come back again, but probably not within 6 months. Although I love meat, I think I got my wagyu fix for a while 😅 The staff is friendly. The place is a bit worn out, I was expecting a higher end experience given the fancy pictures of the website. Note that we went to the Amsterdam Zuid location, not the Museum.

I’ve been to Wagyu Kanata four times now, and each visit before this was a great experience, hence why I kept coming back. The food is definitely on the pricier side, but you’re paying for high-quality meat, and it’s always been worth it. However, during my most recent visit on February 1st, I booked a table for three to treat a friend for her birthday. We opted for the premium course at €125 per person. As expected, the food was amazing, but the experience was dampened by how rushed we felt. We were given only 1 hour and 15 minutes to dine, and almost every time a new course was brought to our table, we were reminded that we had to leave by 7:15. It felt like a constant countdown rather than an enjoyable dining experience. Of course, we understand that tables are reserved for other guests, and we would have respected the time limit. However, being repeatedly reminded made us feel pressured and took away from the experience. For a restaurant in this price range, where meals typically cost between €50-100 per person, I strongly believe that an hour and 15 minutes (even an hour and 30) is simply not enough to truly enjoy the meal. In the end, we paid a total of €434, yet we couldn’t fully appreciate the incredible food because of how rushed we felt. I really hope the restaurant considers adjusting their time limits, especially for guests who are paying for their premium menu. I would love to return, but only if the experience allows for a more relaxed and enjoyable meal.

Wagyu so good I had to keep reminding myself I’m still in fact in Amsterdam and not in Japan. Attention to detail and fantastic staff. Absolutely a must visit and a gift to all of us who love Yakiniku but can’t just hop on a plane to Japan at every whim. Please enjoy.

Our number 1 restaurant. The meat is so buttery soft and full of flavor that it is indescribable…. Always take the platter with rice and fresh kimchi. It is pricey but worth every euro.

Very tasty food! Nice and kind service, always checking if everything is fine and helping if necessary. Trying wagyu is a very special experience - Meat is very tasty, best beef I ever tried. Soups, dumplings and sides also worth giving it a try. If you don't want to buy expensive cuts, then you can also get a cheaper meal there which makes it a really nice place for every occasion. Definitely recommend!
