A lovely atmosphere. Despite its size, it's not too noisy. Upstairs, behind the balustrade, there are private areas for events. You might expect more of a brewery-style cuisine, but it's more classic Dutch fare with some international elements (e.g., steaks, burgers...).

I had a really nice experience at De Winkel van Sinkel. It's nice and close to the shops for a good shopping trip, ideal!! If you want to have lunch, I would definitely go here. The food is really delicious and the value for money is great. There is very nice staff walking around and everyone is very friendly. If you order a drink, you get it within 1 minute ;) I was there with a large group of girlfriends and we were received very well; even with so many girls, the drinks went super fast. If you ever come to Utrecht, I would definitely stop by!

Still a really nice place to eat; dynamic outside, quiet inside. The food is tasty, the service friendly, but the kitchen timing is really bad. There were four of us. One half already had everything on the table, the other half had to wait a long time. The fries were too little, too late. For dessert, the crème brûlée was on the table in no time, but the rest took my 15-minute wait. A real letdown, I regret the generous tip I gave a bit.

Incredibly slow and incompetent service. It took 20 minutes for someone to come get our order and then another 40 minutes for them to bring us 2 cocktails. We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I visited with my mother and my sister, and we were all wearing hijabs. We ordered a Coke, Lipton Ice Tea, and lemonade. After waiting for more than 40 minutes without receiving our drinks, we called the waitress to ask about our order. Instead of apologizing or giving us an estimated waiting time, she told us, “You can see that we are busy. We don’t think we can serve you now, you need to wait longer.” I explained that we were only waiting for simple drinks, including just one Coke and one Lipton Ice Tea, but she kept repeating that they were busy and had a lot of customers. The way she spoke to us made us feel as if she simply wanted us to leave. I then asked her how much longer we would have to wait, but instead of giving us an answer, she said she would go and check. She left and never came back. After waiting for more than 40 minutes and receiving no clear answer or service, we decided to leave. The issue was not only the waiting time, but especially the way we were treated. A simple apology, explanation, or honest estimate of the waiting time would have made a huge difference. Very disappointing customer service, and unfortunately, we left feeling unwelcome.

Very disappointing experience. The service was absolutely terrible, and the way we were treated was unacceptable. The staff were not welcoming at all, and there was a clear lack of professionalism and respect towards customers. Unfortunately, the overall service was extremely poor and completely ruined our experience. Definitely not a place I would recommend, and I certainly won’t be coming back.

The price-quality ratio is out of balance. The quality of the food is too low and simply not tasty. The menu also offers little choice. The baguette starter is a joke. It wasn't really busy, and yet it took a long time before we received our food.

Music much too loud. Music for a young audience. That puts older people off. It was drafty. Why not a French or Italian chanson every now and then? Classical music is probably asking too much.

I wanted to have a quiet dinner here with my parents, and we sat waiting for 5 minutes without anyone bringing us the menu or asking if we wanted anything to drink. Meanwhile, there were three members of the wait staff looking around but doing nothing. That is why I do not recommend this place; the service is ridiculous. We then asked for the menu, and the waiter saw that we didn't have any drinks and just gave us the menu without asking if we wanted anything to drink.

Terrible service. We waited over an hour for our order. We repeatedly complained to the waiter about the delays. I ordered draft beer, but it came in a can. I specifically asked about it before ordering. There's no English menu. The building is beautiful, but the waiters' attitude and service don't even deserve one star.

Let's start off well: the staff was friendly and did their best, the restaurant looked nice, and the restrooms were exceptionally clean. For a drink, starter, main course, and dessert, I spent about 40 euros, so the price isn't too bad. Unfortunately, the food and drinks weren't anything to write home about: the draft beer arrived lukewarm at the table, and the food was just as lukewarm. On top of that, the steak was on the tough side. All things considered, it's a fine place to sit for a pleasant chat, partly thanks to its relatively central location. For a good meal, however, I would walk a bit further.

Today, we thought we were going to eat at De Winkel van Sinkel, just the two of us. We both ordered a main course plus a drink. At least, you couldn't really call it a main course. The boeuf bourgoignon was a small pan of ragout, with nothing else on the side. The steak Winkel van Sinkel was also just a piece of meat with 5 green beans and two carrot wedges. The waiter had mentioned that fries would be included, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Also, the steak was ordered medium rare, but it was more like medium well. Consequently, we had to pay 55 euros for a tough steak, a small pan of boeuf, and two drinks. All in all, theft! You won't see me coming back here again. Although the place looks nice from the outside, the food was bad and not a decent portion for what you pay, and the staff was inexperienced and generally inadequate. I couldn't even get the receipt. Scandalous.

Normal food but location and atmosphere were good.

I’m writing this after having a terrible evening. Everything with the service went wrong. First of all, when the waiter took the order one of us (we were in five) ordered an entree and instead of asking whether we wanted everything together, they made her food come first. Then, we ordered also a ceasar salad and instead of telling us that as a dish that is limited only to the lunch, the waiter just signed it only for telling us later, when the rest arrived, that it was not available at dinner. When the first dish came, which was a tartare, we waited AN HOUR, for the rest to come. Needless to say that it didn’t even come together. Then, me and my father ordered two tartares as main dishes and when they came we realized that they were the same as the entrance, even tough the prices had a 10€ difference. I asked to talk to the manager and one of the waiters started to give me attitude. Then I asked a second time and he started to mock me (?) and another waitress told me to calm down. How possibly is this the way to treat costumers that have been waiting more than an hour an a half to be served miserable portions of food. Honestly, I would never reccomend this place to anyone and I would seriously suggest to discipline properly the personal.

Terrible, DO NOT go here!!! From the outside, it really appealed to us to grab a bite to eat here. However, in the end, we decided to just go for bar snacks and cheese cubes because the dinner menu wasn't very extensive. The bar snacks were TOO overcooked and almost burnt. And the cheese board... some stray cheeses with stale baguette and just some pickles thrown around. And we paid 30.- too! Ridiculously terrible

We had a lovely time sitting on the terrace. But definitely go take a look inside. What a beautiful building. It was also nice to read about the creation of this building and see the images on Google. What I find a pity is that there isn't a real general store inside. To do justice to the history, that would be really nice.

On a balmy summer evening, we settled down on the terrace. Anyone can bring a drink and take an order, but the cheerfulness and enthusiasm with which Jasper does it really adds to the hospitality. Professional and relaxed. We will be back!

This was without a doubt one of the worst hospitality experiences I have had in a long time. The service was friendly, but clearly lacked expertise. Dishes and drinks were barely explained, and a bottle of wine was simply placed on the table without being poured. Additionally, cutlery was forgotten multiple times. The steak tartare was truly terrible. The combination of ingredients was incomprehensible, and it was without a doubt the worst steak tartare I have ever eaten. The details also left much to be desired. The ashtrays looked like dirty dog ​​bowls. Please invest in new ashtrays, as this detracts from the appearance of the establishment. The low point came when settling the bill. My card payment seemed to go through; the machine gave the green light. Yet, I was given a vague explanation that the payment had not gone through, meaning I had to pay again. It turned out afterwards that the amount had indeed been debited from my account twice. The solution? I had to take screenshots myself and send them in, after which I might get my money back. I find that downright scandalous. All in all, a very disappointing experience, with a manager who seemed to have little grip on what was happening. For me, absolutely not worth repeating.

On the way to this bar, we encountered the cult side of Utrecht. Many people were sitting in a square watching a scary movie. We were welcomed into this bar by a sweet waiter. You sit nicely by the water. There was a homeless man on the terrace. We gave him tips on how best to train his triceps. However, a waitress approached us afterwards and spoke to us to say that we are not allowed to talk to people who harass other women. We indicated that we were unaware of his actions, but we were addressed again for speaking to him. We did not know that he had done something crazy. We got the feeling as if we had now done something wrong. We were not aware of this. We hope she is doing well. After this incident, we left.

We had ordered 1 cappuccino and 1 Spa Red on a busy Saturday afternoon. We had ordered 1 cappuccino ☕️ and 1 Spa Red 💧. After waiting for 20 minutes, we unfortunately still hadn't received anything. In the end, we just left without having a drink. 😕 Too bad, especially since there were quite a few servers walking around. In my opinion, our order was quite simple and shouldn't have taken so long. Hopefully, this was a one-time mistake, because waiting is one thing, but waiting 20 minutes for a cappuccino and a Spa Red is a bit excessive. 😅

Beautiful building and wonderfully authentic with old details. Unfortunately, after that, nothing made sense anymore: a gin and tonic for nearly €13 without any garnish, and after waiting 30 minutes for a salad and bar snacks with fries, I received nothing. I asked the wait staff if the order had gone through, and she went to check in the kitchen. It had indeed gone wrong (and I had even asked the waitress if that bar snack with fries wasn't for us!! But she walked back to the kitchen because she couldn't find the table...). After consultation, they told me after 15 minutes that the order could come quickly now, and yes!! After waiting for an hour, the lukewarm fries arrived, along with the Caesar salad containing dry chicken, three halved tomatoes, a few anchovies, and a small egg... :-(( and I even had to ask for the drink I ordered while waiting again after 20 minutes... At the checkout, it was 86 euros, no apology or anything to compensate... So, never again........

We had a drink by the canal first, but for dinner we had to move to the street side. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is pleasant and relaxed. The food was well prepared and tasted OK. The price-quality ratio is OK.

What speaks against training for waiters? Ours seemed to be hiding, and when they appeared they had forgotten everythîng. We know thé Netherlands invented capitalism, but does it need to go that far? Please train your staff. It’s worth the .effort.

It's a nice place in itself. The staff is friendly, but not very attentive. The price/performance ratio is definitely not right for us. An Aperol Spritz, listed on the menu as being with Crémant, was unfortunately made with wine. Very bland… A snack platter, the so-called "Bittergarnit" (a selection of light bites), for €14 seemed outrageous to us for such a small amount of food. We wouldn't come back.

As a resident of Utrecht, it is such a shame to see such a beautiful location miss the mark so badly. We sat in the back garden for lunch. What an ugly terrace… Additionally, the food really wasn't okay. We had the mushroom & Gruyere baguette and the duck confit baguette. The mushroom one had absolutely no flavor and hardly any cheese. The duck baguette was way too greasy; it was dripping off it. It was clear they were understaffed, but the staff can't do anything about that. Otherwise, the service was good. Another point was the toilet. Besides being really filthy, there was such a large gap by the cubicle door that everyone could see inside.

Waited half an hour on the terrace to order. Eventually just left.

I used to have incredibly good experiences at the Winkel van Sinkel. I remembered the terrace being full and music playing everywhere. Unfortunately, that was not the case today. The atmosphere on the terrace was not what I remembered. Regarding the service: A staff member mistook a blond beer for a “Lemonade”. Another colleague (an English-speaking delivery person) was completely confused (quite rightly so). The delivery person resolved the situation quickly and brought the correct beer. Friendly man! The staff member who originally took the order didn't know how fast he should run away. We actually assumed he had corrected the order on the receipt, but after asking, it turned out this was not yet the case. The fact that the service still receives 3 stars is really due to the friendly delivery person who brought us the order. We even gave him a tip. The beers and snacks were fine.

4.20 for a cappuccino from a machine with a dried-out cookie. 6.90 for an iced coffee. 5 euros for a brownie from a package. It is a beautiful building with very friendly staff, but it is actually just a basic place that charges top dollar.

Super nice place! Historic building. It has a lot of potential that is unfortunately not being utilized at all. What a shame! I sat on the terrace for lunch, which is a lovely spot. Ordering was a struggle; the waiter didn't seem to know what was on the menu. Once ordered, all the drinks and plates kept being systematically placed in front of our neighbors. Then we had our food on the table but no cutlery. We had to ask for it. I heard other tables had to ask for it too. That's all fine up to a point; I can live with that just fine. I had ordered a mushroom sandwich. This was a tasteless and dry affair. There was no butter on the bread. The mushrooms were undercooked and not marinated. Not seasoned. No salt, pepper, or other spices. No sauce or dressing. No butter. Just tasteless mushrooms on dry bread with a lettuce leaf. The grated cheese on it was the only thing that gave it any flavor. After 2 bites, I sent the sandwich back and asked for a tuna sandwich. Basically, exactly the same thing went wrong with that. Dry, unseasoned, no butter, no sauce. Just tuna on dry bread with a lettuce leaf without dressing and some pickles. One member of the staff indicated they were new; I can completely understand that when the service is a bit stiff. But I am paying 13 euros for a sandwich. You can't serve a tasteless, dry sandwich for that price.

It looks very nice, but the service is terrible. Staff with little experience (that can happen, everyone has to learn). Drink delivery took a very long time. I received my lunch order, but my table companion's order had (after asking twice) vanished without a trace and still had to be prepared, while I had long since finished my dish.
