For who loves Japanese food, but is tired of sushi, this is the place to go. Great food and excellent service. Recommend taking the set menu which offers a variety of tastes.

Such a hidden gem! Yakitori menu set was so delicious and the staff was so friendly! The restaurant atmosphere was also really nice! Would recommend!!

Everything was amazing! Every dish in the yakitori set was exceptional and the attention to detail and service was outstanding. We made a reservation but it was quiet when we went (Friday evening) which was surprising, considering how great this place was. Highly recommend and would definitely re-visit in the future.

Surprisingly good Japanese food, bit of a hidden gem in the neighbourhood! Super friendly Japanese owner, very welcoming, makes you feel like your in Japan! Loved the Japanese tea pot, it’s a pity they don’t sell them ;) recommend to take the menu and let yourself be surprised by the amazing flavours! We will come back!

Food was delicious and well prepared, the dishes were enjoyable but the black sesame pudding was truly the best I’ve ever had - smooth, rich and absolutely perfect. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive making sure we had everything we needed and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Overall a great spot for authentic Japanese food.

The store is right next to the Victorieplein tram stop 🚋 There were Japanese staff and the menu was all familiar to Japan, making me feel like I was in Japan😊 Every menu was very delicious and I loved it 😙🩷 I especially liked the fried shishito peppers, meatballs, kimo, chicken wings, tomato skewers, yakisoba skewers, and matcha affogato.😋 I will definitely come again, highly recommended ❗️❗️

Food was delicious, tasted almost every kushi (skewer) and they were all delicious. Service is great. Been 2 days in a row :))) There is also a fantastic shop next door where they can fix your phone cheaply and quickly. Nice street.

Service was friendly, food was good, but personally I feel the quantity/price is very unbalanced. The price paid for the amount of food is very high for what you get. Based on this I don't think I would visit again.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would give them an infinite amount - a truly authentic Japanese restaurant with delicious yakitori and wonderful and attentive service. The tasting menu was very extensive (in the most positive way) that gave us a little taste of Kyoto in Amsterdam! The owner was extra sweet and provided us with a complimentary tea to round off our meal.

Excellent service, very friendly, welcoming and attentive. Authentic Japanese kitchen, every dish tasted delicious. Will be back soon!

We had one of our best experiences ever in this La Kushi Japanese restaurant, we found the real one. The location was small and cozy, with just 2 people working hard, but with the best service. The food was delicious, high quality, and the portions were perfect for a 5 courses menu ( super raccomended). I've never eat a chicken that good, the eel delicious, and the yakitori to descover one by one! Another big appreciation for the (owner we think) we had a small chat but we felt really welcomed! Congratulations for this place.

We found this spot our first night in Amsterdam and had an absolutely outstanding meal. You could tell every bite was thoughtfully planned before being perfectly executed and the service matched. Highly recommend.

It was tasty, but the portions were not large, the rice was overcooked, and the chicken was quite expensive. It’s fun as a new experience, but probably not a second time :)

Authentic Japanese restaurant. Delicious izakaya style with tasty dishes and Hitachino beer. Well priced and the host is super nice, accommodating. You can tell by everything that omotenashi is highly valued.

It was so delicious~ The liver was perfectly grilled. I also ate gizzard. The beer, sake, and plum wine were delicious. 〆I thought I wouldn't be able to eat as much as I could, but I was able to choose alcohol in addition to rice, which was nice for someone like me who doesn't eat much☺️ I was looking for a place where I could go for a drink by myself, but when it was open on Wednesday, there were people there alone. I was told to avoid weekends and Fridays. It was a really nice shop that explained the drinks to me. I would like to visit you again

Must try Japanese restaurant. From service to food everything is amazing. They pay attention to details, always notice when you need them and bring out dishes fast. The seatings are comfortable not too squeezed like most places in Amsterdam. Yakitori is very nice and plenty of options 👍 a little bit pricey but worth the money

Very good restaurant for a nice long meal. You can choose from a composed menu or order what you fancy per round. The staff was energetic, worked quickly, but also took the time to provide necessary recommendations. We tried different yakitori and some side dishes. The ribeye with soy onion is a must try, but actually everything was delicious. With some yakitori you also had the choice of plain with sea salt or with a sauce. All in all, we had a delicious meal and went home satisfied after a few rounds.

la Kushi is highly recommended for yakitori purists and people that enjoy authentic homely japanese dining. We've been here three times and will continue coming back. The price to quality ratio outshines the two other yakitori restaurants in Amsterdam and more importantly it is singularly consistent. The chef/owner is cooking and the front of house/owner is serving. Amsterdam is lucky to have this family run business. Some amazing dishes: homemade pickles (unique), the highest quality yakitori such as perfectly grilled chicken wings, tsukune, sunagimo, teriyaki eel, shiso and pork roll, and if the chef has time, amazing onigiri (filled with either salmon, unagi or kombu). It's a quiet, clean, and relaxing place. A great sake and an amazing wide and special japanese whisky selection (nikka, hibiki and chichibu). There are quite a few over-priced, over-hyped places in Amsterdam that poor taste (and likely paid) instagram influencers flock to, thankfully we have true places like la Kushi doing it real. Thank you for serving great food.

Enjoyed a very nicely prepared dinner

Magical. The kind of food that truly makes you smile. We had succulent yakitori, melt-in-your-mouth spare ribs, fluffy fragrant rice, and a delightful sesame pudding with a side of hot sake. Every dish was a star. Needless to say, this place is a must-visit! :)

Sumbled upon this place on my way back from work a few years back and it's been my best find ever. The food is delicious and they have some really novel takes on the concept like the quail egg skewers. Service is always top notch, only issue is that I can't dine in more often!

We enjoyed our experience here. The meat skewers are freshly cooked so it can be a bit slow. It's on the pricey side but a great place for a special occasion and for a cold winter night.

Mijn Japanse vriendin nam me hier mee naar toe, aangezien ze hier al eens eerder was geweest en het echt top vond. Na deze avond was ik het daar zeker mee eens, heel lekker gegeten. Lekkere sake ook erbij gedronken vanuit het proeverijmenu. De unagi bowl was erg goed, maar de ster van de avond was natuurlijk de yakitori zelf, de negima was echt fantastisch, de sunagimo ook. Perfect gegaard en heerlijke textuur.

Prima eten, we hadden 5 gangen menu. Fijne bediening. Eten was goed maar niet zoals sommige recensies beweren. Sake proeverij is een aanrader.

The food is amazing (you cannot leave without trying the skewers) and very good price quality wise. They have a nice collection of wines, beers, sake’s and plum wines. The stadff is also very friendly.

A true gem of Japanese food culture transplanted successfully into Europe. Do not miss out on the sunagimo, hatsu, kawa, negima.

Highly recommended Yakitori. Grills with several options of sauces were fantastic. Onigiri &miso soup impressed all of us a lot. Japanese whiskies have drawn my attention the moment I walked in ;) Great service, friendly staffs, and they have controlled the table pace very well. Great place to catch up with some friends, having some Japanese drinks and accompanied with amazing food.

Absolutely delightful experience. My taste buds were overwhelmed by every other dish I’ve tried. I’ve never been to Japan, but if the hospitality of Japanese people is so big as the staff showed us - I really want to go! :) Totally worth all the money spent, we are going to talk about this evening for sure for a long time!

Amazing experience, the food was delicious, made with care, and left a lasting effect on my girlfriend and myself. We sat there for 2 hours and had a great time trying almost everything on the menu. We also tried the sake menu, and before we tried it, we got a recommendation with interesting advice on how to drink it and a little bit about each bottle. I had already given this place 5 stars because of the menu and attention, but when the food came I would have gone for 6. Truly authentic Japanese, do NOT expect sushi or other trite Japanese food. The black sesame pudding and the drink menu are 11/10.

Gerund door Japanse eigenaar. Wij hebben ons hier gefocused op de yakitori. Deze worden klaargemaakt op houtskool. Niet alleen maar kip, maar ook hartjes, lever etc., zoals het ook in Japan is. Smaak: heerlijk! Mijn kleine neefjes (5 en 3 jaar) wilden alleen maar meer en hebben hier ook heerlijk gegeten! De bon tikt wel aan als je alleen maar yakitori eet en ook vol wilt zitten, maar als je authentieke yakitori wilt eten, moet je dat er voor over hebben! Deze komt op mijn lijstje van pareltjes!

A wonderful variety of authentic japanese dishes which can be hard to find in most other “Japanese” restaurants in Amsterdam. The Japanese staff were able to fully help me with my decision on which dishes to take. Each and every dish gave me a new sensation and taste. I’m certain that I will need to come back several times before I have tried each dish, especially because each dish has about 2-3 flavours to choose from.

Amazing yakitori! As soon as the yakitori hit the charcoal grill the room was filled with an amazing scent. The yakitori did not dissappoint. Evers single one had incredible flavor and were cooked perfectly. You could taste the quality of the chicken. Woud recommend this place for anyone wanting to try authentic Japanese yakatori. The best you will find in Amsterdam. The host and servers were very kind. Be sure to try some of the lovely sake and japanese draft beer. We will visit again!
