The atmosphere is good, but the service could be better. You get the feeling they want you as quickly as possible. The salads and meze are mediocre, but the main courses were tasty, although the ali nazik barely had an eggplant flavor. And we found the fact that you have to pay for Turkish tea rather unusual; we'd never experienced it before. All in all, fine, but not worth returning for the price-quality ratio.

We had dinner with the whole family (9 adults and 3 small children) for Christmas. We booked well in advance for a large group. The tables were very cramped and divided over two tables for 8 people. We ordered two mixed grills for 4 people, which we were told would be more than enough. Once served, there was barely anything on the platter. One chicken skewer, one Adana, one shashlik, and four lamb chops. Also, some tomatoes and peppers and a bowl of bulgur. We were surprised because this is never enough, so we ordered two more platters. €140.00 each, which is nothing to sneeze at! I think it's outrageously cheap for that price, and TikTok is full of photos of grilled platters for one person, each with the same amount on their plate as we had with a platter for 4. After paying €930, there was also an €85.00 service charge! Are they charging us for a large group?! Just act normal!

A wonderful restaurant, Demet was very careful and lovely. We had a really nice time. The dishes were on point with a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. We had starters and main course. Personally 3 starters was clearly enough, maybe even too much ! I clearly recommend this place.

For my boyfriend's birthday, we went out to dinner at the restaurant. He had been there before, and because of his positive experiences, I took him out for dinner as a surprise. Unfortunately, the food wasn't what he's used to. The lamb skewer was sent back to the kitchen twice. Both times for the same reason: the meat was tough. We discussed this with the staff both times. When we came to pay, it turned out the full amount had been charged, and there was no communication whatsoever to address the dissatisfaction with the evening. Finally, the staff asked if I would be open to leaving a tip, as this wasn't standard practice. I felt this was a very inappropriate question given the situation, as our complaint remained unresolved. It's a shame the evening had to turn out this way, as the staff were very friendly throughout the evening.

The place is beautiful, the food is very good, the cleanliness is excellent, and the staff are especially friendly and attentive; they constantly check on our tables, asking if there are any problems or needs. Shameful. Overpriced. Ali Ocakbasi is an absolute disgrace. This place shamelessly exploits Turkish culture for profit while delivering a product that completely betrays what real Turkish food stands for: generosity, warmth, and hospitality. What you get here is the exact opposite. The prices are outrageously high, completely disconnected from reality. And what do you get for that money? Embarrassingly small portions. I am not exaggerating when I say the plate looked like a children’s portion. I left hungry, angry, and feeling ripped off. The atmosphere is just as bad: Insanely loud, overcrowded, tables packed so tightly that you have zero personal space. This is not dining — it’s chaos. You can barely talk, barely breathe, and certainly cannot enjoy your food. What makes it worse is that this place drags Turkish cuisine through the mud. Turkish food is about abundance and respect for the guest. Here, it’s reduced to greed, noise, and tiny plates with luxury pricing. That is dishonorable. Summary: • ❌ Ridiculously overpriced • ❌ Tiny, insulting portions • ❌ Loud, cramped, stressful environment • ❌ Complete disrespect to Turkish culinary culture Amsterdam has many great restaurants. This is not one of them. Do yourself a favor and stay far away.

Best Turkish Restaurant in the Netherlands. I’ve been living in the Netherlands for 10 years now and hear a lot of ‘Really good Turkish restaurants’. Ali Ocakbasi is a 100 times beter than all of them. Especially during Xmas the team was so helpful, accommodating. They even let my grandma go in earlier than our reservation and gave her tea to warm her before our meal. Amazing food, even better Kebap. Thank you so much 🫶
