The restaurant is beautiful, but the food did not wow me. We ordered some rice dishes and vegetable dishes that our waiter recommended that were pretty good. There was a chicken dish that was pretty bland. The fish that they used for the dish wrapped in leaves was genuinely inedible, I could not eat more than a bite. My cocktail was good but I didn’t taste all the flavors mentioned on the list. I wanted to like this more but the fish really ruined the rating here.

Some of the dishes were really delicious but others were oily with not much flavour, like the aubergine dish. The Bami tasted like instant ramen from the Albert Heijn and not authentic noodles

No estábamos listos para hacer un Rijsttafel completo, y nos encontramos con Amoi. Llegar al restaurante es fácil. Tome el tranvía 7 o 13 hasta la parada de Bilderdijkstraat. Hicimos reservas y nos sentamos rápidamente. El menú sugería 1 - 2 platos por persona, así que tuvimos seis entre nuestro grupo de cuatro. Toda la comida era buena, con nuestros favoritos son Sate Ayam y Terong Roas. Para las guarniciones, nos gustó más el Bami Goreng que el Nasi Goreng.

This place is closing in a month. We were here for the first time, and we really enjoyed it.

No importaba demasiado, pero hubiéramos preferido el que esperábamos recibir. En general, era bueno y nos volveríamos a ir.

Really kind, super cute and Instagrammable place. Too bad the food isn't up to par at all. The portions are very small and all things of questionable quality. Considering the truly exaggerated price it brings the place very low in my personal experience. We took a few things: - Thai rolls with chicken (non-existent chicken, either the waiter was wrong or the rolls were bought with simple chicken flavoring) - €8.50 - - braised beef in coconut sauce (about 10 cubes of very hard and stringy meat, certainly of low quality in a sauce that I must say is very good and spicy but which rightly covered the low quality of the meat well - €12- - accompanying sautéed noodles, clearly instant dried noodles from the supermarket with a hint of seasonings (rightly a side dish) but still for the modest sum of €5.50 -we saved the dessert but certainly not fancy dessert (pancakes with coconut and sugar) still €5.5 In short, a lot of expense, little return. I won't go back. Unfortunately for the place which is very nice and the waiters are really super friendly.

Super fun experience, eating with the family. Cozy atmosphere, friendly service and excellent value for money. We sat on the mezzanine floor near the front door and therefore had a nice overview of the entire restaurant. Now it wasn't winter yet, but it would be nice if visitors just closed the door when they entered or left ;). Highly recommended if you want a cozy and delicious meal!

This is one of the hidden gems. I stumbled onto this one as much as others before. It’s a place with a lot of attention to the details when it comes to interior as well as the food. I am rather amazed at the quality of service too. On that note, it was Sunday evening. Closing time. I rely felt it for the employees. They worked very hard today, and I wish the management takes that into account. It appears that the place deserves a few more great people in their team. Had an OK dinner here during my 3 day trip to Amsterdam. The food was OK but nothing exceptional. Service was a bit awkward.

Excellent service from two young ladies in particular who were hospitable and friendly. Young man still has something to learn. Do not tell customers what the rules of the restaurant are (does not come across well), but that share dining is advised without obligation, Tables a bit small for 4 dishes, nasi and drinks. Better to place a little less and have more space. Everything 1 euro more expensive compensates for fewer places. I would love to come back Terima kasih banyak Sampai Jumpa. French

Top tent. Top indo. The only downside is the price of (organic) wine per glass. Other quality and prices excellent.

Overall very nice and great communication with the restaurant owner for the booking, 5 stars to that! However it was a bit of a buzzkill at the end of the night not being able to pay 700€ separately cause the restaurant doesn’t have a billing system that allows to split the amounts. Never seen something like it before.

Nuestra cena en Amoi no comenzó bien ... perdieron nuestra reserva! Las reservas son una necesidad: el lugar estaba lleno. Pero después de hacer nuestra reserva en línea, y responder al día - de confirmación / recordatorio, la recepcionista nunca había oído hablar de nosotros. Pero ella fue lo suficientemente amable al respecto, y no se preocupe, encontraron una mesa en la esquina para nosotros. Es un restaurante encantador con un menú interesante, en consonancia con las raíces indonesias de Amsterdam. Y una interesante carta de vinos. Nunca habíamos probado platos indonesios, una interesante amalgama de múltiples cocinas asiáticas del SE. Los Sate Udang [brochetas de gambas a la parrilla] eran impresionantemente buenos, al igual que las tortitas con puerro, cebolla y carne de res, y pollo a la parrilla javanés con salsa de coco. Los precios eran muy razonables. Amoi está bien situado, a pocos pasos de nuestro hotel en el canal de Singel. Recomendamos encarecidamente este encantador restaurante.

Food was very very tasty , good menu recommendations by waitress , perfect for sharing and tasting a lot of different dishes. Waitress disappeared for a while, they may be understaffed had to go bar to get water and beverages.

Fantastic food and super nice and friendly service where everyone we met made us happy to be a customer there. Occasional loud noise in the room, which many people are probably looking for, but which can be a little worrying for some.

The food was delicious and had some of the authentic flavours that we remember from our recent trip to Indonesia. However, it’s worth noting that their spice level is not accurate - even when we chose options with a chili pepper beside it, it was not spicy at all. This may be due to adjusting for the population which is understandable but I would’ve expected even a tiny tiny bit of the spiciness that is prominent in Indonesian food. It also seems understaffed - no one was rude and they were cordial but it could take some extra time to get help. The pricing was also pretty high for the portion. The one thing that really stood out to us was the fact that they charge for table water. We were just asked if we want to start with water and we said yes - our table didn’t have a drink menu but usually you don’t get charged for regular table water at restaurants, much less 6€ for a regular sized bottle. It wasn’t a branded, sealed bottle, just seemed like a refillable bottle but it cost more than the rice (4€)?

UPDATE 23 and 28 August: We brought our cousin and friend to Amoi. My friend had a dinner request before going back to the 🇺🇸: Indonesian cuisine. Where else would I bring him. On both evenings we had different dishes. Both of them were happy. Especially my friend who loves Indonesian food, was very ecstatic and enthusiastic. When I was there on the 28th, it was really good to see Karina again. She understands what hospitality means. So the service was way better and warmer than the 23rd. We really missed Karina during her holiday. But she made it all up to us. Hopefully auntie Nettie will be there next time when we have dinner again. ------------------------------ UPDATE 13 July: Visited Amoi with my family. An updated menu with some changes here and there. My cousin and his wife found it tasteful and enjoyed a delicious dinner. Nice to see Aunt Netty again. And dear Karina was also there to serve us along with her awesome colleagues. There was an accidental mistake made with the bill. Karina was very attentive and acted promptly. This saved us €100.00. Thanks for the good care and friendly service. See you next time! ------------------------------ UPDATE 26 May: After a long time, we visited Amoi again with our guest. We had planned to eat elsewhere but ended up here. No regrets at all. **Food:** The food is truly delicious. We ordered two types of vegetables, sate kambing, ikan pepesan, ayam goreng, rendang, and emping. We enjoyed it thoroughly! For dessert, the men had ice cream and I had cendol. No regrets there either. **Staff:** We were served by a Romanian young lady named Karina. What a sweetheart and so spontaneous. She did an internship in a hotel in Bali for six months and already speaks Bahasa Indonesia fluently—hats off! Karina addressed and served us in Bahasa. The rest of the staff was also incredibly nice. The bartender prepared our drinks wonderfully. I had a gin kelapa, which was delightful. 🤭 The men quenched their thirst with a beer or two. **Restaurant:** A cozy restaurant with a tropical decor. Amoi is definitely recommended. Next time, we will try Daalder Streetfood. **Location:** Easily accessible by public transport. On the way back, we walked, which was good for digestion.. ----------------------------- Had er al eerder gegeten maar dat is weer een tijdje terug. We hadden zin in gado2 en het heeft ons goed gesmaakt. De cendol was ook lekker en nadat we om scheutje extra gula jawa vroegen, was de smaak nog beter en zoals het hoorde. Aanrader qua keuken en de sfeer is relaxed. Als het beneden vol is, kun je boven zitten. We vonden het wel aan de prijzige kant. Hebben met z'n drieën gegeten en betaalden € 93,00. En dat alleen voor 2 gado2, 2x portie kip en extra emping. Verder hadden we 1 cendol als toetje. En nog fles water en een bintang bier plus Ice tea.

We had dinner with friends on a Tuesday evening..Service was efficient and friendly and the food fabulous..The starters and the mixed shared platter was just yummy...Spice levels were spot on and the extra sambal we received was perfect to 'up' the levels!! We'd love to get back!!

I have not written a lot of google reviews and barely ever do. But the food was so disappointing here that I just had to. Firstly, I ordered a Tempeh main dish. The description said Tempeh and green beans of the meal. When the dish arrived, there was only green beans and maybe 6 pieces of Tempeh. There was barely any sauce and felt like it was just pan fried with some garlic. I was essentially served just beans. I have attached a photo of the dish. Secondly, the portion sizes were very small. The atmosphere of the place was great and the servers were kind to my feedback. But overall an extremely disappointing experience.

Habíamos leído en nuestra guía que deberíamos ir a un restaurante de Indonesia mientras estábamos en Amsterdam. Hicimos reservas en Amoi y cuando llegamos fueron recibidos por un amable miembro del personal que nos mostró nuestra mesa y nos dio algunos consejos sobre qué pedir. Cuando le dimos al servidor real nuestra orden le preguntamos si era demasiado y ella se rió y dijo que sí. Seguimos su recomendación y cancelamos tres o cuatro platos. Una vez que nuestra comida comenzó a aparecer nos encontramos con 12 platos de opciones intrigantes y deliciosas para compartir. Pronto sacamos con cuchara el arroz amarillo y lo cubrimos con muslos de pollo increíbles únicos con salsa Pangang adictiva (dulce, compleja, y ligeramente picante) , tortitas fritas crujientes rellenas de verduras, lubina a la parrilla, verduras fritas wok en una salsa de coco, wontons con una salsa de inmersión, brochetas de camarón con salsa de soja picante, berenjenas tiernas en salsa de tomate, y judías verdes. Pedimos que la comida fuera suave y yo la calificaría como uno de cinco – justo para nuestra fiesta. Casi nos lo comemos todo. Este es un lugar animado donde grupos de personas vienen a compartir comida increíble! No te lo pierdas.

I loved eating at AMOI! My mother and I had a delicious meal for a nice price, as the food was of good quality. Above our expectations. Staff friendly, good atmosphere what more could you want.

Absolutely fantastic food and cocktails!!! The server’s recommendation of ordering 2-3 dishes per course was spot on. The corn fritters and the stewed chicken thighs were standout delicious! Wish we had room to try a dessert. Highly recommend for a share-a-meal experience!!!!

Great food & cocktail options. Unfortunately the service is what I'll remember more. Some of the staff seemed completely lost, which we noticed from the moment we entered the restaurant. Though all were very friendly it was a bit of a chaotic experience trying to grab the staff's attention and get our order in.

The vibe and atmosphere of this place are really nice. Based on one of the waiter’s recommendations, we ordered the Ayam Pangang, Ikan Pepesan, Sambal Tempeh Buncis, Sate Mix (chicken & shrimp), chicken and vegetable spring rolls, and fried rice. The food was good overall, but our favorite was the chicken dish. It was very tender and flavorful. The fried green beans was our least favorite as its flavor wasn’t very prominent. The seabass tasted overwhelmingly of lemongrass. They offered us complementary dessert (Dadar Gulung), which was a very lovely gesture. It was interesting and not too sweet. Given that this restaurant is based on ordering multiple plates, they should consider bigger tables for parties of two. We reached a point where we didn’t know where to put the dishes.

This place was a complete surprise. We travel to indonesia for about a month every year, and this place would have to have the best authentic indonesian food outside indo. The beef rendang and the sate ayam 👌 perfect. Too many great dishes to mention Enak sekali.

Off a side street in Amsterdam lives this little almost hidden gem. I didn’t think I would enjoy Indonesian cuisine, but was more than pleasantly surprised. The food is served in small family style plates so we were able to order nine items from the menu each unique in their own way.

The restaurant excels in design and atmosphere, but the culinary aspect left something to be desired. The frikadel djagung lacked flavor, and the martabak resembled a spring roll rather than what I consider authentic, with an overly sour cucumber that might benefit from extra sweet balance. Although the Gado Gado deserves warning for its spiciness on the menu, the cumi cumi stood out positively. The Nasi Goreng could have been more powerful, but the sate gambing and sate ajam were delicious. The restaurant has potential, provided the food is refined

Can only offer positive feedback. Vegetarian Food was great with good portions, service was warm and efficient. The ambiance was very pleasant and cozy. Will definitely recommend to vegetarians. And an added bonus, excellent public transportation access to get there.

The waitress was super unfriendly and unwelcoming. The lattes were too weak. The accompanying cookie was hard and just gone. The chill-out area is nice. I don't know how the food tasted but the attitude of the staff doesn't make me eager to return. I don't recommend!!!!!

we tried a series of dishes provided. all were delicious. daging rendang, ayam temur, nasi kuning are favourites. personnel is super helpful and kind. decoration is nice. you smell oil and seasoning in the ambient but not that heavy.

During my visit to AMOI - Indonesian Kitchen & Bar, I found that while the quality of the food was acceptable, the value for money left a lot to be desired. The dishes and drinks are notably overpriced, with a small blonde beer priced at 7.5€ for 33 cl. The portion sizes are quite small, which doesn't align well with the prices. Even opting for the more affordable items on the menu, a meal without drinks can easily cost upwards of 20€, and you might still leave feeling hungry. I tried the Acar Campur and Sayur Lodeh, and honestly, I felt that I could prepare better veggie dishes at home. I'm no expert chef, but my homemade 'random veggie stuff' seems more satisfying. The saving grace was the friendly service from the waitress, hence the two-star rating. If AMOI is ever in the market for a new cook, feel free to give me a call!

Het eten is heerlijk, met name de nasi kuning en rendang! Fijne ambiance en vriendelijke bediening. Enige minpunt is de prijs van het drinken, dit is aan de hoge kant. Aanrader voor wie een gezellige, relaxte avond wil met lekkere Indonesische gerechten!

Lovely place! I’ve been here a couple times and it’s delicious every time. Vegetarian and vegan options are also great! The staff is also friendly and helpful. We did go on a relatively quiet weekday but we had no complaints about service. Also, because of the sharing concept portions are a bit small but it’s really not much of a problem if you’re a group and everyone’s trying everything. No complaints really from our end :)

Nice and great Indonesian cuisine. It’s not the biggest place but cosy and when you eat more than enough space. The food is amazing, not extremely spicy and very tasty. The staff is friendly but can be more accurate. They are busy and that’s not always helpful. The kitchen is open so you can look into this kitchen but if you’re close to the kitchen it’s not the best place. The establishment has two floors and is in the centre of Amsterdam. A place to come back to.

We went as a group of four for a weekday dinner. I expected the sharing plates concept and so was not disappointed by the size of the plates. Moreover the staff took time to explain how the ordering process works. The wait was not too long. Definitely recommend the Beef Rendang. It was awesome. We shared 12-15 dishes between the 4 of us including dessert. The pancakes with minced beef were pretty good too. The desserts were different and unique.

Heerlijk geurende gerechten en lekker verse ingrediënten. Zalig gegeten in een gezellige ambiance. Na het eten vroegen ze uit zichzelf of we het overgebleven mee naar huis wilde nemen. Er kan ook afgehaald worden.

I found that the service was a bit slow, which was somewhat disappointing. However, the flavors of the dishes did make up for it to some extent. I ordered the beef coconut curry, and while it was delicious, I felt that the portion size was a bit on the smaller side. The omelette with tiny bits of tofu in a sweet soy sauce. It was tasty, but I think a different veggie or side dish is more interesting if you’re new to Indonesian food. I’m generally dissatisfied when restaurants charge extra for rice, when the dish traditionally pairs with it. I find it very lame actually to charge for white rice.

The peanut sauce had such a strong and lovely flavor of fresh ginger... delicious!

Food was good, not great. The Dadar gulung that we ordered was waaaay too chewy. They also forgot our dessert BUT they have amazing cocktails Authenticity of the food? I'd say it's legit but it's not really spicy unless you ask for a separate sambal on the side.

Because of the good reviews we went to eat at Amoi. The service was very uninterested exept for one nice girl with dark hair. After waiting app. 1,5 hour we got very salty daging rendang and not very tasty cumi cumi. The sayur campur was nice and the bami goreng o.k. but we are not going back there.

Updated: Well, we returned as promised. The food was still great but EUR 8 for a glass of wine was very steep. Original: Very nice restaurant. Great food. Friendly and attentive waiting staff. They also don't have a problem with serving tap water if you ask for it, which I appreciate. We will be back!
