Ordered uttapam onion tomato. It was very good. Sambhar and all chutneys were delicious. Went without reservation.

The place looked good, with a nice atmosphere and good service. The food was alright, but it all went down the drain the next morning - I couldn’t leave my room for a few hours before it all went out of me.

We arrived at Anjappar after a long day of travelling, only to be told that the restaurant was closing at 3:00 p.m. Despite arriving at the door, we weren’t allowed to dine, and no flexibility or understanding was shown. It was a very disappointing experience, especially after such a long journey. The lack of customer service and hospitality was disappointing. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won’t be returning.

Delicious food & excellent t service!

A strict NO for vegetarians !!! They use the same gravy for veg meals as well. We found pieces of chicken and they dont even feel sorry for their mistake. “1 in 100 meals might be an issue “ was their attitude.

Pity staff does not know his menu's. Requested an egg in the Roti Prata, not possible. Pity! Chai with milk, more then 30 minutes to make?

Food is authentic, but service needs improvement. All good restaurants bring food for all the guests together.

The food was very disappointing. I didn't realize this was a chain restaurant, so it had a very big menu. Despite this, they didn't have the combination plate advertised. The waiter steered me instead to a lamb biryani, which was so over-salted as to be almost uneatable, but otherwise bland with large chunks of bone. My daughter's noodle dish was equally poor, the only sauce being a small container of what seemed to be catsup. Service was slow, and they didn't even provide us with forks. Would not go again.

We had a delicious meal. The tastiest masala dosa with very tasty chutneys. The vegetable biryani was very flavorful.. I would love to come back again

Probably the most over hyped place for Indian food, specially north indian. The chapati was not freshly made but just the reheated frozen ones you get in the market. The tandoori roti was not fresh and crisp. We order buttermilk which was full of cumin seeds and quite thick. The daal was very average as well.

Anjappar chain is generally a good place to eat with some great food. However the Amsterdam location misses the mark. The food was ok in taste. The coffee just lukewarm. No Wifi,🤷. The location is very good and easy to locate. Interiors are warm and cozy and spacious.

We love Indian food, and this was our first time at Anjappar. After all, what could possibly go wrong...? Quite tasteless; my dish wasn't even tasty, very bland, and I couldn't for the life of me recognize any Indian spices. The worst part is that I felt very sick immediately afterwards, went to the toilet there twice, felt very nauseous on the way home, and even fled into a restaurant to find a restroom. Very unpleasant!

Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience. I went there with my friends for food and ordered the Thali meal, which was listed as vegan on the menu. The menu mentioned several dishes along with a dessert, but when it was served, I received the same dishes repeated twice and no dessert at all. When I asked the server why the dishes were repeated and why there was no dessert, he responded with a horrible attitude, saying it was because I ordered the vegan meal ,as if I was supposed to know that what was written on the menu would be different from what I would actually get.They say whatever on the menu and serve you whatever they want . The manager came and apologized, but I really felt like scammed by them .Paid for something different that what i ordered . It’s such a pity because the customer service was terrible, especially from the person who took the order and served the dish. Mistakes can happen, but people should still be treated with respect. There was no accountability at all for their mistake .

Indian restaurant with friendly staff and lots of south indian tiffin options including kuthu parota and various dosas. We requested for a fast delivery due to our flight and they served on time. Loved the experience here.

We had a really good time here, the staff were incredably accomodating. The food was an explosion of tastes. Note: the non-spicy options were still pretty spicy (at least to us).

Anjappar was a spot I was keen to try, having already visited their Berlin branch. The food was good and largely met expectations, but compared to the Berlin experience, something felt slightly missing. Still a decent option if you’re craving Chettinad flavors in Amsterdam.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Anjappar Amsterdam! We ordered the Kerala Fish Pollichathu, and it was absolutely delicious—flavorful, well-cooked, and truly authentic. The Biryani along with the Ceylon Parotta complemented the meal perfectly. A special shoutout to Ankur and Om, who took such great care of us. Despite us walking in without a reservation, they warmly accommodated us. Both were extremely friendly, communicative, and made our experience even more enjoyable with their attentive service. Overall, great food, even better hospitality—we’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Amsterdam.

Tasty food, good value for money, often plenty of space (even walked in at Christmas!). Sometimes the seating is a bit tight. Very close to Museumplein, yet you don't pay top dollar for good, honest, and delicious food!

Ordered Egg Kothu Paratha, got chicken piece for free. It’s impossible to get hold of them over phone so never got chance to speak to them about it. Won’t order from here again. Sad, this was our go to place for comfort Indian food.

Coming to Amsterdam on vacation from SF Bay Area, and having lived in India for a short time, I have fairly high expectations for all Indian cuisines. This was really good - flavors were traditional, spice levels enough but not to stun. Don’t be fooled when you look inside, the searing is upstairs. It’s a great mix of locals who know and trust the quality. Very clean, prompt, patient and attentive. A real treat for anyone looking for genuine South Indian (even no spice is spicy ;) ) If it’s your first time and you’re overwhelmed by the menu a few tips: the ‘dinner sets’ are very good. The chicken 65 is delicious and the butter chicken biryani is popular with Dutch folks. Those who know the menu well take their own adventures.

I usually go to madras dairies for the dosa. A friend recommended anjappar so I gave it a go. Should have never cheated on madras dairies. I was here with 4 friends and ordered at the same time ended up we got plates at different times also incorrect items . I actually was super disappointed with the whole experience. If you want good service food and ambiance opt out anjappar and choose Madras dairies!

Please please please bring back the mutton nalli masala! I ordered this atleast once a week for the past 4 years, and now it’s no longer on the menu

This is a really famous South Indian restaurant, popular chain overall. Personally prefer this place for it's non-vegetarian options, especially their Biryanis & poultry dishes. Naveen & Jasmeet were our servers on our most recent visit and they were courteous, friendly & helpful when recommending food options to us. Will definitely come again - if you'll are interested in their Biryanis, do make sure to arrive before 7:30pm, otherwise it will run out 😊

We went to Anjappar in Amsterdam in April and our experience was just mediocre in my opinion. The portion sizes are quite good, but the overall management and experience with quality was not really satisfying. The most disappointing was the Chettinad chicken curry which is not something similar at all to what we get in Tamil Nadu, India. The other dishes that we tried were the Mutton dum biriyani and Ceylon chicken parotta. Overall I gave 3 starts for the portion sizes.

Today unfortunately disappointing. Half of the things we ordered were unavailable, they forgot things and they various portions with random delay from each other. Probably they were really understaffed, but the overall experience wasn't nice.

I've visited Anjappar several times, but today was my last. While I understand the restaurant gets crowded and reservations are preferred, their system for walk-ins is non-existent and unfair. I was planning to dine in solo today and was told by the staff it could take a while, which is understandable. I waited and when I saw tables being cleared and others who were waiting before me got seated, I asked again and I got the same reply. When a larger group came in (they also did not have any reservation to my understanding) they were given a table. It felt like I was being ignored because I was a party of one. This was insulting and unprofessional. I walked out and won't be returning. I ended up going to Madras Diaries instead, the food is much better and the service was top-notch. I'd urge people to head there instead.

Visited here recently with my team and had a really good experience. The service was impressively quick, which made everything smooth and hassle-free. We absolutely loved their traditional biryani—full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The mutton soup was another highlight, rich and comforting. A solid choice if you’re looking for south Indian tasty food with fast service. Definitely worth trying!

My friend and I had dinner at Anjappar. I ordered chicken meals and my friend ordered vada sambar and masala dosa. We got our food quite quickly and thoroughly enjoyed it! The flavours are definitely authentic. I'd say the chicken meals is good value for money, considering the variety of dishes you get for 22 Euro. The drink service can be somewhat sluggish and the restaurant is a little cramped for my taste. Reservations are definitely recommended, given how popular it. All in all, a good experience and I will come again the next time I visit Amsterdam. Keep it up, guys!

Fantastic experience for lunch! Anjappar offers some of the best Chettinad cuisine I’ve had in the city. The menu has great variety and every dish we tried was packed with authentic flavor. The service was prompt and professional, which I really appreciate. The restaurant is clean, well-maintained, and has a very pleasant vibe. One of the most Authentic South Indian food in the Netherlands (Europe)! It’s a chain, they have it everywhere. I love the crab curry so much!!!!

Best mango lassi and paneer butter masala in Amsterdam (I’ve only had it there to be fair but it was fire)

If you want authentic or anything close to real Indian food I do not recommend! I ordered a chicken Biriyani and it was soggy overcooked and simple boiled chicken. Calling it a pulau would even be sad. None of the “tandoori” dishes we ordered had any real tandoori flavour, seemed to have just been put into the oven. And finally the masala chai had to be one of the worst chai’s I have had, “masala” was missing it was simple black tea with milk. Absolute waste of money!!

We visited Anjappar Amsterdam last Saturday (21 February) as a group of 6. The food taste and quantity were okay, but the experience did not meet expectations. Three of us ordered meals based on what was clearly mentioned on the menu (3 meat dishes). However, we were served only 2 meat dishes. When I asked the staff about this, we were told we could have one extra bowl of curry instead. When we requested it, the waitress brought a very small bowl with only gravy and no meat, which was disappointing and not acceptable for a paying customer who ordered the meal expecting the menu to be accurate. Additionally, the pickle mentioned in the menu was not served initially, and we had to ask for it separately. Overall, while the food itself was okay, the service and mismatch between the menu and what was actually served were not acceptable. As customers who paid based on the menu description, we expected better. I hope they take this as a feedback and improve on future

The food was fine, but nothing special. The whole place smelled of deep fryer, and so did our clothes. The ice cream (dessert) was already half melted by the time it was served. Dirty plates and glasses were left on many tables for a long time. Furthermore, you had a direct view of the utility room/dishwashing area the whole time. The service was friendly (hence the 2 stars), but unfortunately, completely inexperienced/unable to provide a good experience.

Been there quite few times! Their special mutton biryani served in the weekend is so amazing, the tenderness of the mutton, the flavour of the rice and ghee😋😋 Definitely must have, I took my sister with me to try it she loved it so much we went again the next day. Service is fast and everyone is friendly. Their mysore masala dosa, podi masala dosa is too good and mutton naali soup too!

The food was good, but unfortunately the service was very disappointing. After our meal, we ordered dessert, but our table for two was still full of used plates, leaving no space for our cups or dessert plates, so we had to hold them while eating. Although it was a weekday and we understood that not all menu items might be available for lunch, we noticed that a family seated behind us was able to order a wider variety of dishes from the same menu. It felt like larger groups were given better service, which was frustrating and unfair. I hope this issue is taken into consideration and improvements are made to ensure equal service for all guests.

Anjappar’s famous “Bahubali Thali”, a name that has been doing rounds in food circles in the Netherlands. Curiosity got the better of me, so decided to try it myself and come to a conclusion. Honestly, just for the thrill of trying this huge thali, it was totally worth it. The food tasted soo good. The chefs and the owners seriously deserve a crown for this amazing spread 👑. Shared this massive thali with 4 people and I was the only veg person 😂 but every single dish tasted truly fantastic and wonderful. The portion sizes may look small in pictures but trust me, they are very generous. It was a 2 day Christmas offer, but the lovely staff mentioned they can prepare it anytime if you inform them in advance while making the reservation. Don’t miss it the next time you visit Anjappar, you will definitely thank me later for the reco 😉. Courteous service and an experience to cherish 😍🤩❤️👌

Great food and taste but I would like to give one star for service as some areas has to be worked , it's essential that service staff provides a lemon considering the spicy food given also sometimes attention ain't received by the service staff with delay in providing resources to customers.

I ordered mutton biryani and it was sooo good. I almost felt i was in chennai. The taste and flavour was on point, as if i was teleported to chennai. It is commendable to get this taste, so far away from home. Highly recommended.

There is no meat in crab, very small, I’ve tried better.. I came here because a Reddit post suggested it .. I am disappointed. I also tried chicken tikka it was ok. Mid at best. Garlic naan was so poor. It looks like they threw a little butter and garlic on it. Service was pretty good. Nice waitresses. Atmosphere was ok

Indian south Indian and north Indian style veg & non veg restaurant. In lunch buffet non veg meal with competitive price available.

We ordered two mutton dum biryanis (number 202 in the menu). The rice and sauce were tasty, but there was no meat in them. Only bits of bone and very little meat. The scary part was the discolored egg in the rice. We politely mentioned this to the helpful and polite waiter. We also asked for extra meat, and thankfully, they brought a smaller portion. This meal is problematic. It needs to be removed from the menu or replaced.

I've eaten Indian food before, but this is truly excellent. Delicious food, with plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. And the prices are reasonable, especially for a city like Amsterdam. Highly recommended!

Had casual lunch time with my family, taste matches South Indian flavour, cosy atmosphere, recommend booking in advance. Prime location and served well . Marina beach sundal is my kids favourite with mango added to it .

The level of service has drastically declined. It was difficult to get attention from the staff and get the order placed. I requested for tissue and cutlery, I requested to pack the remaining food I could not finish. Waited 20min and nothing happened. I ended up paying and leaving without even asking again. The service used to be better in the past as I remember. Looks like the staffing have been changed. It is a shame for the Anjapar to have such a low level of service.

I ate Ambur Chicken Briyani and really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly. I would recommend it.

Have always loved eating the mutton biriyani here, but the last two visits have been nothing short of a disappointment. Ordered the vegetable biriyani today which was tasty, BUT Loaded with loads of butter. The masala Dosa had very little masala and the dosa batter was super heavy for some reason. My friend and I felt that it was rather heavy for a dosa than being fresh and light. 10 hours later, I still feel the butter reflux. I hope you guys monitor the amount of unnecessary oils or butter which is being added. Thank you.

Wow, what an unexpected surprise! We had an afternoon timed entry in the Rijksmuseum, so wanted to duck into somewhere close by. Chose Anjappar on a whim and it was awesome! We went with the quick lunch Biryani special, along with naan, parotta, and palak paneer. The biryani was complex, perfect amount of spice (slow burn, with a dramatic crescendo!), and meat oh so tender. The special came with chicken masala which was the most interest masala we’ve had in quite some time. We’re not in Amsterdam much, but when we return we will make another to Anjappar!

It’s a very nice Indian restaurant, though the waiter accidentally spilled red wine on us, which was shameful, but truly apologies for it and all and all the meal was nice.

It was great to try some South Indian flavours in the Netherlands. The food, atmosphere, and service were amazing. I tried the Chicken meals, which is a must try. A great spot for anyone craving real Indian food in the Netherlands.

What a fantastic experience! The Biryani was absolutely delicious — fragrant, perfectly spiced, and full of authentic flavors. The Rasam Soup was warm, tangy, and comforting, just like homemade. On top of that, the staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and kind, which made the meal even more special. Easily one of the best spots in Amsterdam for authentic Indian food. Dosas here are super tasty, one of the best spots for South Indian food! The staff coordination could be better; we had a reservation but still had to wait.

Amazing paneer as a starter and great dosas for the main! Service was great with very sweet waitresses and very little wait time. We had a great time eating lunch there and would 100% return for the authentic Indian food!

I liked it because they were typical dishes from southern India, but I must point out that they were all spicy (even those without a chili pepper label), but I think that's a matter of foreign palates and that Indians are already used to having chili peppers, however they should have a more realistic label. The place is small and unfortunately the bathrooms are not very clean. I recommend making reservations before going. It's worth the experience.

Food was good. Service was okay. They wanted to sit me in a sperate section than other people and it made me feel awkward. Another lady came and said, "Absolutely not, you must sit me in a regular table please, I'm so sorry." I heard here point that they sit foreign people in that section. I was alon in a small table and there was an Asian girl by herself sitting in a single table as well. I don't know if that was true or not. I would hope not. I got served a soup with no spoon and had to ask 2 times for a spoon. The bread I ordered, I was asking if they can bring me butter on the side, they told me no I t had to be one or the other because they have a bread with cheese and some herbs, so i wanted that bread and asked if they could bring me butter on the side, even though I was okay if the charged me extra, they said no, they could not do that, the bread never came with my food, I ate my whole meal and the bread was brought at the end after I ate, while i was paying at the register.

We were told the food was great, but we found everything overly seasoned. The staff didn't speak Dutch, and the English wasn't great either. The seating wasn't very comfortable either.

Lovely authentic food with helpful staff who are happy to help with menu and recommendations. It was so good, went twice whilst on a 3 night stay. Recommend asking for kadai paneer (off menu) and try the paratha.
