The food was good, one friendly waiter (apologized for the loud talking from the staff), but the rest of the staff was unfriendly and fake. As a result, there was a bad atmosphere, and naturally, I didn't leave a tip. So: find different staff and it is a pleasant place.

Great food with reasonable prices.

We ordered Parotta, Masala Dosa, and Vegetable Birlyani here. The dishes were delicious. One minor downside: you cannot order tap water. Otherwise, the atmosphere is nice.

Phew, I don’t even know where to start. I found this place randomly during an older visit in AMS. It popped up while I was exploring gmaps, and I got to say: although the visual identity was a turn-off at first, I listened to my gut and ate here. Best. Decision. Ever. The food was so good that I got brain fog for a while, after finishing the dishes (this is a compliment). Simply phenomenal for the price. The lassi was good. The serving was smooth and your employees were super helpful and friendly. The sides where great, The portion sizes were pretty big, so we left the place with a smile on our faces .

Visited Saravana Bhavan Amsterdam recently and left disappointed. The Dal Makhani was far from what you would expect, the Paneer Biryani was okay but overly spiced, and while the Cauliflower 65 was decent, it seemed to contain artificial coloring to make it look more appealing. My advice would be to stick to the South Indian dishes, as the North Indian options didn’t feel authentic or well executed. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but for the price, service, and overall experience, it wasn’t worth it for me. As someone with experience in the hospitality industry, I understand you can’t please everyone, but authenticity and quality should come first. If this is your first time trying Indian food, I would recommend exploring other Indian restaurants as well. Hopefully, the restaurant improves its menu and food quality in the future.

Disappointing overall. The North Indian dishes lacked flavour and were mostly just spicy. The paneer biryani had little paneer, and the service was sloppy despite simple requests. The restaurant felt a bit untidy, and paying €65 for a cauliflower dish, dal makhani, paneer biryani, and a small bottle of water was hard to justify. It felt more like overpriced Indian fast food than a proper restaurant. The South Indian dishes are better. I’ve tried dosa another time and it was good, so I’d recommend sticking to that instead.

This is the best Indian food I’ve had since travelling Europe. We got the South Indian thali. So delicious.

We had a fantastic dining experience at Saravana Bhavan Amsterdam! The food is incredibly tasty and authentic. The masala dosa and Medu Vada were crispy, and the chutneys were full of flavor. Even the fried rice was excellent. The restaurant is spotless, and the service was excellent—fast, warm, and very welcoming. They even customise some of the dishes to suit your taste buds. A highly recommended spot for great South Indian vegetarian food! It is located opposite to a tram station so easy to reach, even paid parking is available near by.

i’ve definitely had better indian food in amsterdam but overall not bad. we had the idly (on the dry side but still perfectly fine), gobi paratha (good!) and onion masala dosa (it just had raw onions added inside? when i’ve had it before the onions was more cooked into the dosa which i definitely like better. dosa and masala were pretty good though. chutney and sambar good too) also they upped the prices. the lady was super nice though. decent option but for better indian food go to the madras diaries

Nothing else is good apart from dosa and thali. We ordered idli Vada and they were stale. Vada tasted like it was made last week, not fresh!

Had the Onion Masala Dosa and my wife had the Mysore Masala Dosa. We enjoyed the coconut, tomato, and sambar served on the side—the coconut chutney was my favorite. Very poor overall experience. Food was over spicy and oily . No authenticity & not worth for money. I ordered veg thali , I'm from tamil nadu so I know about saravana bhavan, I was disappointed and service no one bothered. To be honest because of poor service the restaurant looks empty.

This once popular chain has been closing down or down scaling its operations. However this branch in Amsterdam is numero uno. The food was very tasty and fresh. Service was adequate and prices were reasonable.

One of the decent pure vegetarian places in Amsterdam that are well within Budget. Food is good.Meals cost around 19 Euro each(North Indian or South Indian). Keep in mind that water costs additional in Amsterdam restaurants and there is no free water.

We really enjoyed eating here! The restaurant was recommended to us by our neighbour from India, and it definitely lived up to the recommendation. We ordered the paneer goby fry and the palak paneer. The portions were generous, and the paneer goby fry really stood out. It had a wonderfully layered, smoky flavour with a lot of depth. Another big plus, besides the tasty food, is that the prices are pretty accessible for Amsterdam. The service was quick, and the staff were attentive throughout our visit. We will definitely be coming back!

Overpriced food, rude stuff and disappointing experience

Really disappointed with the quality of the Saravana Bhavan. The quality of Saravana Bhavan has been failing continuously and this has been one of the disastrous trip for me in Netherland. Dropped into this restaurant with high hopes of south Indian vegetarian food but got disappointed heavily. The place is located next to tram spot and has lot of footfall. We tried onion utappam, sambar vada, parotta kuruma and curd vada. Except sambar and curd vada which was above average in taste others disappointed us. The sambar and curd vada tasted good but was not soaked for enough time. Also the warmth of sambar vada was missing. Onion uthapam only had words of onion but real onions were minimal in the uthapam and the onions were not scattered enough making partial side as just plain uthapam and other side with onions. Parotta and kuruma was even worse. The parottas were more like flat and hard rotis rather than soft. Some places were hard to break even and the potato malasa was a bit more salty. Service was ok but not the best expected. Reall a disappointed trip and wasted our time

Food was okay overall. The cauliflower chilli cheese dosa was too cheesy and became soggy. However, the Schezwan fried rice and Gobi Manchurian were really good. Service and atmosphere were good and the place was clean. Note: water is charged separately.

I've been to this restaurant twice in the past and have vomited both times afterward. I don't know what you put in this food, but my body can't handle it, and I've never had these symptoms at any other restaurant. For that reason, I'll never go back.

Eaten umpteenth times at Saravana Bhavans' in Dubai. Compared to that here the taste is Avg at best. Dosa was not crispy-bordering soggy. Sambar was also Avg. Idli- I think was reheated in the microwave. Not sure.

Food was good. We had idli with yummy saambar and three varieties of chutney. Idly was a little dry. We also had fluffy parotta, awesome pongal, rava dosa, mushroom munchurian and very tasty kesari. We were offered with bottled water. But, that's ok. We had our water bottle. Friendly employees especially the chef, very friendly and polite. There were a lot options on the menu.

Dined in last week. Had dosa, medu vada and coffee. Medu vada was good. Dosa was horrible, it was more like powder. There was something wrong with the batter. It didn’t taste good. But the worst was the coffee, honestly the worst coffee we ever had. The guy waitressing was rude and the seats with green sofa wouldn’t accomodate two people opposite to each other, our legs were hitting each other- so uncomfortable. Please leave little space for people’s legs and take classes on South Indian coffee making, please.

This Indian restaurant has the largest selection of dishes I have ever seen. It wasn't easy making our selections, but we each chose an appetizer and an entree. The dishes were very flavorful and delicious. The portions were good sizes too. Service was good. Had I been in Amsterdam longer, I would have visited again. It was authentic Indian comfort food.

Additionally, the toilets and handwashing areas were unhygienic and poorly maintained. I strongly advise against visiting this place — it’s not worth the money and is overpriced for what it offers Spended two meals for €19.99/- per meals.

We ordered rava masala dosa and it was really good but the size was not that good at all so had to order something else along side(1 person). The chutneys and sambar tastes amazing. One thing is that they dont serve tap water which should ideally be an option available in good restaurants. But everything else that we ordered was really good and overall a good place for South Indian food.
