I enjoyed the dinner. Service was fast and attentive. Cosy and relaxing restaurant in the city centre. Portions were on the small side, but overall a nice spot for dinner.

Very bad food & cleanliness is worst. There was bad smell all around & most unhygienic experience. Never going to visit again. Also Food price is So HIGH. For 2 people we have paid 75€. But the good Quality is extremely Bad. Better to go another restaurant.

Decor made us feel like we were in 2005! The chap had some serious attitude and we recieved a very poor service and the food was disgusting and almost inedible. To top it off, ridiculous pricing(absolute bonkers🤯). Trust me, this is not how Indian food tastes like!!

We were at this Restaurant today. It was our first time. The guy at the reception was very unwelcoming. We saw him being rude to other two customers too. I am not sure if he is the Owner or he works there. But he really needs to learn basic Customer Skills.

Beware of them, they are thieves who supply the bill, and it tastes bad Make sure of your orders before paying. There is fraud on the bill by adding items. The food is not good and I do not recommend it.

Excellent Indian food and very attentive staff. From outside, you will see sign to walk through corridor to restaurant. No street window or terrace. Once Inside, the atmosphere is very comfortable. You can choose how mild or spicy you wish to have your food (or as hot as you can handle)! Walking distance from Amsterdam Central train station

Extremely Disappointing Experience I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Gandhi Restaurant was so poor that I feel compelled to share. From the moment I walked in, the service was inattentive and cold. The staff seemed uninterested in even acknowledging us as we waited for our table, and once seated, we were ignored for long stretches of time. When we finally placed our order, it felt like an inconvenience to the waiter. As for the food, it was absolutely terrible. The flavors were bland and completely lacked the richness and depth you'd expect from Indian cuisine. The curry I ordered was watery and tasteless, and the naan was dry and hard. The portions were tiny, especially considering the high prices. I’ve had far better Indian food at local takeout spots, which is saying a lot. I was hoping for a great meal and a warm experience, but unfortunately, this place failed on both fronts. I won't be returning, and I strongly advise others to look elsewhere for authentic, flavorful Indian food in Amsterdam.

Finding a right option to have your favourite cuisine is a task when you are in a different country. I placed my bet on this restaurant and the staff did not disappoint me at all. I was a great experience for me. I went there for dinner with my family and staff was very courteous to take care of my six month old baby. They were very considerate towards the baby needs and that is one thing that made my day here. Apart from it, the dinner was delicious. We have kadhai paneer with butter naan and liked it. Overall, a great experience and a must visit place.

Every year we come all the way to Gandhi from The Hague and South Limburg at least once to eat there. Since we found this little Indian gem, a visit to Amsterdam is not complete without Gandhi. The intimate restaurant is hidden behind a small alley. The staff is friendly, the owner cordial and always has a chat with the regular guests. The food is always good and can be adjusted in terms of spiciness as desired. And for a restaurant on the Damrak, the prices of the dishes are also competitive.

They did not even serve us food. They are full of attitude and does not know how to serve or talk with customers. Its not a place where you would like to go. Ignore it completely even if you had no food for 2 days.

This was hands-down the worst dining experience of my life, thanks to the unbelievably rude owner who clearly has no concept of customer service. Absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant! The owner was shockingly rude from the moment we walked in, with a complete attitude and not a hint of respect. We asked for tea, and not only did they refuse to serve it, but they also had the nerve to talk down to us as if we were a burden for even asking! The entire vibe was hostile and unwelcoming. I honestly can’t believe this place has customers – the owner clearly couldn’t care less about decent service. If you want to be treated with basic courtesy, do yourself a favor and steer FAR away from this place!

The worst. I would rather starve to death than eat in this disgusting shabby corner. Also it smelt horrible. The owner was extremely mean and kept giving us weird looks. They didn't 'just' serve tea and samosa and made us leave. Well, have some common sense and put a sign outside saying so. It can't be that hard to understand? Your attitude is just degrading, insulting and stupid, fix it. No wonder you barely have any customers 😔 We were left with nothing but a terrible odor, rude staff, and zero tea or food. Save your money, your nose, and your patience, and avoid Gandhi Restaurant like the plague.

Very expensive curry as compared to market price. I asked for medium spicy but still the curry was too spicy. With meat serving rice and for the veg option you have to pay extra. End of the meal No complimentary mint chocolate. No normal water provided, mandatary you have to buy water bottle, I never seen in any Indian restaurant.

The food is very, very delicious. I ordered the chicken biryani, butter chicken, and samosa (the samosa is normal, I do not recommend it). I strongly recommend the biryani.

El restaurante Gandhi está situado en medio de un mercado concurrido y turístico. Visité el restaurante para un almuerzo familiar, la entrada del restaurante no es muy atractiva. El restaurante tenía un ambiente normal. Cuando visitamos para el almuerzo, había una multitud moderada, consiguió la mesa sin esperar. Pedido un par de platos de pollo con roti y arroz. Las comidas eran sabrosas. El servicio fue razonablemente rápido, el personal era cortés y sensible también. No hay comentarios sobre el precio como ni idea sobre las otras opciones, sin embargo el almuerzo costó 66 euros para 4 personas. En general buena opción gastronómica de la cocina india en un lugar turístico.

The entrance may be a little difficult to find. If you don't look carefully, you might pass by. I used it for lunch. Delicious curry goes well with rice! The naan is warm and chewy ♡ The quantity is large and I am very satisfied. I'm not a picky eater so I can eat anything, but my partner can't eat cilantro. The soup that came with lunch had so much coriander in it that he couldn't eat it. (I got it instead!) If you have any likes or dislikes, please let the staff know in advance! When you want to eat Indian curry, come visit us!

Not recommended. The atmosphere was very stuffy and crowded. Too much happening in such a small space. Food was so so. Nothing which stands out. Very small portion size as compared to the prices. Service was fast but they do not understand basic requirements(if you say no spicy - the food still clears your sinuses)

Food was good, atmosphere on the mark. What i find weird here is, there are no rice served with vegetarian dishes but with will all other non-veg dishes rice is served. Taste was good I would suggest Dal soup to try, also they don’t serve Tap water, which i found common in Amsterdam

Came over to eat at Gandhi 2 days ago while transiting in AMS. Was craving for some good food. From the hospitality to the food it was superb. Two guys called themselves best friend. Head on to Gandhi restaurant and the owner is a friendly gentleman who would like to engage you in friendly and informative conversations. A Disappointing Experience 😞 I recently visited Gandhi restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience was underwhelming. While the food itself was passable — nothing extraordinary but not terrible either — the overall experience was spoiled by the attitude of the staff. After dinner we paid and then we decided to order tea but the restaurant manager told us that he cannot prepare tea for us as he has to pay 10 euros because we are occupying the seats. (I don't know what he means by that, for information we reserved our seats online) As for the food, it was average at best. The menu had a decent variety. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t something I’d go out of my way to recommend or return for. Overall, while the food was acceptable, the unwelcoming attitude of the staff left a sour taste in my mouth. Dining out is as much about the experience as it is the food, and unfortunately, this restaurant fell short in both areas. I would not return to this restaurant ever.

You cannot order a thali for 2 people. Not everyone eats like an animal. Ambience is quite average. Food is quite expensive and not that tasty.

I came to Amsterdam for the first time and saw this indian Gandhi restaurant while walking casually my family. We went through this narrow tunnel like corridor and we ordered mix of food that I typically like. Unbelievable the food is really upto the mark. I promised to come back again. Service was very polite and efficient. I will recommend all food lovers to try this restaurant.

Food was ok. Service was ok(we were never offered water). Chai tasted like boiled water absolutely no taste whatsoever. And quantity was very small. Worst was the amount of flies around us making it super difficult to sit. I wouldnt recommend. Editing to add all what I ordered - I ordered one naan, one garlic naan, one dal tadka, one order rice, One speciaal paneer, one kofta. The owner repsonded to my comment with incorrect information to mislead reading users. It was more than enough for 2 people but I am talking about individual portions of each item I ordered. I talked to staff about flies and I was told this is an issue everywhere in amsterdam.(well didnt happen to me at few other places i went to).

I went there for tea and snacks and when they came for taking order the guy refused to serve tea. We asked him the reason and he said that people come to eat food and I make big money, I can’t waste time on tea and snacks. He outrightly asked us to leave as other people were waiting in queue. Infact when we entered the restaurant and asked for a table of 9 person he made a face. I shall not recommend to go to the restaurant with such rude behaviour.

Super rude guy. Only want to serve the foreigner and not indians. When asked for authentic tea, reply was if you want to drink tea then go to tea shop not here. I came with my parents, felt insulted.

👎🏻 I had a very poor service from this restaurant especially from the staff named " DHAKSHAN “(if iam not wrong ) the short man with a black rectangular framed spex.we went there for a brunch and have ordered a cup of tea for which he refused to serve first we mentioned him at the first that we would prefer to begin with a tea but he sounds rude and stated he cant serve as per the customers choice. I was surprised that he served the tea after our meal even after reminding him twice. I believe he did that on purpose and treated us according to his conviniance.i felt very bad as that was my start of the day with an Indian restaurant. The incident has ruined my entire day. I regret myself for choosing the restaurant infact the restaurant was bit far from my hotel i spent a lot to reach there as well. We have travelled many different countries but never had such a disappointing experience. 👎🏻 However,the food was not bad.

Very good authentic Indian food. The owners were really welcoming and even served a small appetizer for free. The food is halal and even very spicy if you want. The only negative is that the price is quite high compared to Germany, but it is definitely worth a visit!

Amazing Indian food in Amsterdam! My friend and I were both craving a curry and found this gem. Don’t be put off by the entrance way and creepy fair ground music, the food is SO good and staff were lovely. Only thing that let it down was the atmosphere but we were there quite late so it’s probably more lively at peak times! Definitely visit if you’re in Amsterdam and get the peshwari naan you won’t regret it!

We always come here becuse it’s so good. Really nice tasting food. They are adaptable with people’s orders and will make food you like. An eg they will make a vegetable balti. The ice cream dessert is recommended, and the service from the staff is really good. You must visit here if you like Indian food!! Very central location.

Been known this place since 2015 when my dad visited us first time. We are vegetarian and the Srilankan Staff were super friendly and polite and helped us choose the right dishes. Will give 5 out of 5 for this place Best wishes

I love Indian food and this was a great hole in the wall spot in Amsterdam to get my fix. I had the mixed platter with garlic cheese naan and it was delicious, hot, and flavorful. The down side of this place is that it is very dark inside without any windows, the air doesn’t seem to be flowing except from a fan and the service was a little slow even though there were about 5-6 servers present. Good size portions for a good price which is always good in my book.
