Restaurant Ghandi is an oasis of tranquility, completely hidden from the bustle of the Damrak. Excellent food, very friendly welcome. Excellent value for money. My friends and I chose the set menu: three courses for a very reasonable price—where else can you find that? A place to cherish.

Had a great experience at Indian Restaurant Gandi in Amsterdam! The location is prime, just near Amsterdam Centrum, making it super convenient. The ambience is simple and okay, but the food is absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavors. The owner is very cooperative and friendly, which made the visit even better. We were in Amsterdam and we were desperate for some Indian food and we found this place which had a very low score to be honest with you, however the food is second to none - it was amazing, if I could give this place six, I would, it was that good so please give it a chance

Its location is in a less-than-ordinary corridor. The food is bland. The butter chicken comes with rice and tandoori shrimp, and the vegetable stew comes with rice. The food is generous. The butter chicken is spicy. The naan is good. 👍🏻 The staff are friendly 🙏🏻 and speak a little Arabic.

Located in the heart of Amsterdam, the food here is quite good. We asked for Indian level spice, and it definitely delivered — it was extremely spicy. While the flavors were enjoyable, the prices felt a bit on the higher side for what you get. The interior space is rather tight and can feel a bit claustrophobic. Staff service was okay, but not particularly warm or engaging.

Best restaurant in Amsterdam if you love indian food.

The restaurant felt quite old and is also ( from 1990) , and since it’s located inside a building, there was a strong smell as soon as we entered. There didn’t seem to be proper ventilation or exhaust, so the entire place had that lingering smell. We ordered just one dish, which was quite average, nothing special. Overall, not a very pleasant dining experience. Price was on the lower side compared to others Indian restaurant's.

Delicious! I was worried about some of the reviews, but it turned out to be delicious. It's a bit pricey, around 25 euros (approximately 227 Saudi Riyals). It was two Tikka Masalas and Biryani rice. Of course, we ordered extra Tikka Masala because it was so delicious!

I had the thali at Gandhi Restaurant and it was excellent. Every dish on the plate was flavorful and nicely spiced, without being overwhelming. Was quite disappointed with the experience. The portion size was very small, with the kadai just enough for one person. It was overly oily and lacked good flavor. Most importantly, it was overpriced for the quantity served. When we asked for extra onion, it didn’t seem fresh. The ambiance was poor, and the restroom did not appear hygienic. Although the restaurant is right in front of Centraal Station, the path leading to it inside the building felt a bit shady. Overall, I would not recommend this place.

The biriyani rice had no flavour, was very bland. Rice was undercooked. Please don't waste your money. Could not even eat one spoon.

Here on vacation and decided to stop here to eat the food was so good. We had butter chicken, chicken curry and vegetable curry yum yum. The staff we exceptional and very helpful and concerns to attending to our every need. I will most definitely recommend this as a place for you to try.

Worst food ever , they will give you uncooked tomato curry and staff is super rude . Dont even know basic manners . The food might make you feel pukish as its so uncooked and its definitely not something you would expect from an indian restaurant and they wont even give you a glass to drink water from outside. They will charge you even for raw onions , sickk and the portion size omg dont even ask.

As an Indian living in Europe, I’ve kind of adapted to the milder spice levels here. So when we visited Gandhi in Amsterdam, the food hit hard on the spice scale! 🌶️ All the curries were rich and flavorful, but definitely made for proper Indian taste buds—not toned down for the European palate. Maybe we should’ve mentioned we wanted the “milder” version, so that’s partly on us. 😅 That said, the hara bhara kebab starter was genuinely delicious—crispy, soft, and very well-spiced. The vibe of the place was also lovely—felt like a rustic, old-school Indian setting, not overly glam but very comforting. Not like a CTC-style chain restaurant, which we appreciated. The location is a big plus—right in the heart of Amsterdam city center, so perfect for a quick stop between sightseeing. We had beer with the food, and they cheekily referred to Kingfisher as “the thief beer” (😝)—which gave us a good laugh. All in all, we had fun. The food was good, the setting was nice, and it’s a solid choice if you’re craving authentic Indian flavours. Just be mindful of the spice levels if your taste has become a bit “Swedish” like mine!

The open kitchen setup inside a completely closed space means there's no fresh air circulation, which leads to strong smells lingering throughout the restaurant. As a vegetarian, the smell of seafood was especially noticeable and a bit overwhelming at times. Also, the entrance is quite narrow and not very inviting, which made getting in feel a bit awkward. Overall, amazing food but the ambiance and ventilation could definitely be improved to make the experience more comfortable.

Very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I found a hair in my biryani, and when I pointed it out to the waiter, he tried to tell me it was "ginger" and that it's normal to find that in the food. But it was clearly a hair, as you can see in the picture. The food itself was not tasty at all and didn't seem fresh. Overall Definitely not coming back, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone who values basic hygiene.

NEVER. EVER. GO HERE. I’ve dined across countless restaurants throughout Europe, and this stands out hands down the worst experience I’ve had. Not just bad food. Not just poor service. This was an outright insult to basic human decency. Let me tell you what really happened, before the owner spins another fantasy and starts attacking genuine reviewers a pattern I’ve now seen in their responses instead of just fixing what’s broken. We walked in with 3 kids and 4 adults. We made it clear at the entrance that we just wanted to quickly pack something and leave. We had a kids’ wagon, and the place was practically empty only 2-3 tables were taken, no visible reservations. And yet, we were told to wait outside, like an inconvenience. Only one adult allowed inside? Are you serious? It was clear from the start zero empathy for families with children, even with a half-empty restaurant. Next, while ordering, we asked for two dals. That’s what we wanted. We were told it’s not enough, pressured to order three. Shameless upselling. No concern for what the customer wants, just a push to inflate the bill. Then, in the middle of the meal, we were asked to change tables because one of our babies was crying not throwing a tantrum, just crying. The excuse? “We need space to move around.” Except no one was moving around. Just another made-up excuse to shove us aside. And when we were leaving, we calmly mentioned that their behavior was unprofessional. Instead of an apology, we were met with hostility and aggression from the lady at the front possibly the owner. No remorse. Just arrogance. And the food? An oily, tasteless mess. Look at the attached photo it speaks for itself. Dripping with grease, with a flavor that doesn’t even try. This was our first and last visit. But here’s something for the owners to remember: Karma doesn’t skip anyone. To everyone reading this: avoid this place at all costs. If you value respectful service, clean food, and basic human courtesy, this is not the place for you. Attaching photos and the bill before they try to pretend we were never there, like they do with every honest review.

Extremely Stuffy and smelt so stale .. like the restaurant hasn’t been ventilated or aired in decades. So we took the food to take away. Chana masala and aloo mutter both had the exact same creamy red sauce gravy.

I can't give negative rating otherwise would have given that to this restaurant. We were 2 families, visited the restaurant since our kids were hungry and ordered food for them. To our horror the owner started shouting and asked us to leave since we only ordered food for our kids. In the middle while feeding our kids he asked us to take to go and leave only because we didn't order more and he didn't get enough business. The owner is only after money and extremely rude with zero customer focus. PLEASE BEWARE AND NEVER VISIT.
