A pleasant evening in this French bistro in Amsterdam, with tasty food, a cozy atmosphere and charming service. A great gastronomic getaway!

The whole experience was exquisite! From the oysters and champagne to start off, to their signature rice pudding dessert, everything was delicious. We got the 4 course meal, and each course was unique and so good. My personal favourite was the calamari. We were served by the owner, Max, who was really attentive and ensured we had a personalized and great experience. He gave some great wine pairing advice too! Not to mention the fun ambiance and beautiful decor. If you’re in Amsterdam, this restaurant is a must try!

After various recommendations we had high expectations for Arles, only to catch them on a very off day.. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning for the food after the experience that we had. We have to say, the service was not the problem. During our whole night our waitress tried to improve the situation around the food, but this was ultimately not in her hands. At the start there was just a bit of chaos around where we could sit, as it seemed that they didn’t really know where to place us. We opted for the 5 course menu, to let us be surprised by the chef. We started with a cute little amuse, a potato with hollandaise mousse. Then we moved on the first starter, beetroot with blood orange and smoked yoghurt. It tasted fine, but was a bit bland, nothing special. It then took very long before we received our second starter. And when it arrived we discovered that it was the same as the amuse, just 4x the size and with the addition of a tiny bit of pastrami. In essence it was a very big piece of deep fried potato, which tasted fine, but felt like we were just eating bar food to fill ourselves up. The third starter came also after a long wait and it was a celeriac with pear. We were very surprised, because we seemed to receive different dishes than the tables around us. The dish looked great, but as wel tasted it, it had simply no flavour. No salt, no acidity, nothing. Just barely cooked celeriac and raw pear. We couldn’t even finish the dish, because it felt like a waste of our stomach space. The waitress apologised as we did express our dissatisfaction, and she tried to get to the best solution. We quickly moved onto the main course, which was the chicken with black garlic. This was a great dish, only to discover that my partner received 80% raw chicken. We were honestly a bit shocked how this just kept happening. The manager came up to apologise for the turn of events and offered us the food in the house. We appreciated the gesture and continued with a new main plate. The (cooked) main course tasted delicious. Lastly, we got the lemon curd dessert which tasted great as well. Mistakes can happen, and preferences can differ, but this was not up to standard for the price that you pay. Maybe something went wrong after my partner indicated that was sensitive to shellfish, so to exclude this for him. The other tables in the restaurant seemed to be fine. We appreciated the gesture of taking the food off the bill and the effort put in by the waitress, but overall it wasn’t a very enjoyable evening.

Delightful venue, Provençal style, French wines, young and dynamic staff. We chose a natural wine and the chef's menu. Colorful and delicious dishes. Furnishings pleasing to the eye and comfortable. Pleasant French music in the background, just the right volume for chatting. Relaxing atmosphere.

We visited the restaurant on the last night of our holiday in Amsterdam. I hadn’t appreciated that the menu was limited (my fault) but chose the a la carte menu and decided to share our dishes. There seemed to a little confusion as we were served the wrong dish as was a neighbouring table. One of the starters was “potato” and that’s literally what it was. Tasty but €15? The fish main was delicious. The chicken main course came with a black garlic sauce which I enjoyed but my husband found too bitter. Pleasant evening with attentive service but not as special as I’d hoped.

The food was good, but the service ruined it all. They had some minor problems from the very beginning (seated us at the table which was already booked or something, so we had to move elsewhere), but well, that happens sometimes, not a big deal. Then they messed something with the ordered drinks and could not bring them for over 15 minutes (we already finished the first round of appetizers when the drinks arrived). But they did apologize and made the drinks on the house — so, not a big deal as well, probably. And then the food was great. The courses may seem a bit experimental and controversial (venison with eel is indeed a strange combination), but we enjoyed them, really. But the ending was totally unexpected and weird. After they brought the desert, they just stopped speaking to us at all. No “how were your deserts?” question asked. No tea or coffee offered, not to mention the digestive. No other questions or suggestions — they silently took away the empty plates and glasses, even without asking if we wanted another drink (well, we wanted, but they didn't care) and left us with an empty table and a half-empty bottle of water. The only question we got from them was if we wanted any change when we payed. No help with the wardrobe offered, no goodbyes said. Is that really a Michelin listed place? The McDonald's service usually seems friendlier. Guys, did we offend you somehow? That was really, really strange experience. Thanks for the food though, it was great nevertheless.

Word of mouth is the best sales lady. We had heard from a dining expert that we should not miss this, so off we went. Thijs is simply super hospitable and attentive. We ate a delicious four-course menu with excellent wines. Nice atmosphere, family business, you feel so at home. We also say: let people spread the word: you can fully enjoy yourself in Arles! Don't hesitate, make a reservation.

I don’t know what happened on 23 November but it’s as if the manager was away and the organisation and decision making dissapeared. One mistaken was confounded by another mistake, time after time. I’m pregnant and they twice served me wine (before pouring it into the other glasses) and forgot my actual drink. I ordered a starter which included caffeine and asked for it to be removed, they agreed, they then forgot my order again and then came out with broccoli and carrots. I sent it back before another waiter brought it back a second time. The main course was good but very slow to arrive. The bill was too high, they then amended and generously gave us €80 off the bill - we checked with them it wasn’t a mistake but the waiter said he wanted to make up for the experience. We gave him a €20 tip for his kindness and his stressful evening. He then told us the €80 discount was a mistake - it felt like a scene from a chaotic comedy show!

The restaurant boasts a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere, paired with excellent service. The staff is professional, friendly, and well-informed, creating an enjoyable dining experience. However, I was somewhat disappointed with the food, especially considering the price. We opted for the chef's five-course tasting menu, which included three appetizers, one main course, and a dessert. The first two appetizers were outstanding, the scallop, and the mushrooms in chestnut cream; but the third, a fried croquette, felt uninspired, with the flavor dominated entirely by the frying. The main course, featuring venison, was delicious; however, the addition of two small pieces of eel felt out of place and did not harmonize with the rest of the dish. The most disappointing aspect, unfortunately, was the dessert. The menu included a pear-based dessert accompanied by parsley ice cream. While innovative, the flavors were peculiar and didn’t align with what one would expect for a dessert course. Unsatisfied, I asked to try the second dessert option, which was cottage cheese-based. Sadly, this too failed to impress and did not feel like a fitting conclusion to an otherwise refined meal. For the price I paid I would have expected more. In summary, while the menu shows great promise, certain elements could be improved. I would strongly recommend revisiting the dessert selection to ensure a more satisfying ending to an otherwise well-thought-out dining experience.

We had a 4 course menu but as a main dish we ordered entrecote which was +15 eur p.p. (was delicious). As a starter we had leek and chanterelle mushroom with soft egg (very interesting texture). We are not leek fans but the taste was good. The menu changes every month btw so from next week there will be a new menu, which you can find on their website.

Just a great place! I’ve had the best time! The food was just incredible, the service was very friendly! I highly recommend this place!

This is my biggest food disappointment in a long time. I do not recommend wasting your time and money in this establishment. I took a set of 5 dishes, 4 of which were not just tasteless, but disgustingly tasteless. But first things first. Initially, when I arrived, they put me in a separate room. In front of me, the waiters began to argue with each other, which already set the wrong mood. Everything started well, they brought me hot crispy bread (spoiler - this is the only tasty dish). Next came the appetizers - 1) boiled leek with 3 crackers that couldn’t even be chewed and sour mayonnaise I think okay, but the next one was just cabbage in some kind of mayonnaise with 3 pieces of fish and DILL. Dill in 2024? in a good kitchen? the third was another appetizer - tasteless mushrooms in water - it was disgusting. As a main course, they brought me meat in red wine sauce, even though I initially clarified that I don’t drink alcohol and can’t stand the smell/taste of it. Nobody warned me. for dessert there was chocolate cream with ice cream, which was difficult to spoil and it was normal. Save yourself time and don't go to this restaurant. It has nothing in common with French cuisine.

Great experience! The kitchen was very cooperative. I called in advance to see if vegan food was possible, and although they normally don't have vegan dishes, they had put together a creative menu especially for me. The beet carpaccio, often a standard vegan option, was given a surprising twist with raspberry and capers. The pumpkin risotto as a main course was delicious, and the non-vegans enjoyed a perfectly prepared cod. Secretly, the chanterelle amuse was the tastiest. The wine pairing was good, although the service could have been better; the guests without wine pairing always had to ask for drinks themselves. Arles is definitely recommended!

The service at Arles was something else, really great! We had the chef's menu and it was very tasty, however, I would have wished that one of the dishes would have been meat to have more variety.

A must every time I’m in Amsterdam

We had the 5 course menu which is highly recommended! Every dish was a surprise. We started with cremant and oysters and then had some wines. Everything was SO tasty and the owner and service were also very good and nice. The atmosphere and acoustics were also great. Definitely recommended and I would come back!!

Great atmosphere and good service, but the food fell flat. This is a nice restaurant tucked away on a side street in De Pijp. We did the 5-course option with a wine pairing. Nothing was bad, but also nothing really stood out - as everything was so mildly seasoned and lacked texture variation leaving the dishes to just blend in together. Leeks - could have been cooked slightly more, sauce lacked flavour Celery & sea bream - one of the better dishes, fairly simple Chantarelles with egg - egg was cooked soft with sautéed chantarelles. Again could use some texture and also very mild flavour. Beef chuck - cooked well. I like daikon, but it didn’t add much here. Would have enjoyed creamy mashed potatoes more Chocolate desert with miso and bacon was good.

We had the chef's 4-course and enjoyed each and every dish. Standout was the rice pudding dessert - exceptional. The staff are very warm and friendly making our experience that much better, we're very glad to have stumbled upon Arles. Highly recommended

Very tasty food. At first I thought what is this going to be when I saw the menu, but I was really surprised. I really like this in the caliber Zoldering and the Juwelier, just really really good!! In addition, there was a very nice living room atmosphere.

What a wonderful evening with wonderful colleagues in a perfect atmosphere. The food and presentation were perfect, the waiters were as attentive as you would expect and the ambience was absolutely harmonious. I'm looking forward to next time.

Fantastic interiors and ambiance, with great lighting and artwork. Service overall was good and staff is helpful and friendly. We went for the 5 course menu with the wine pairing. We opened with a steamed cabbage and mushroom dish (good), followed by a leak and cream dish with mustard seeds (excellent), dorade and fennel I think (amazing), mushroom and egg (ok), and the braised beef (great). The wine pairing complimented each dish nicely so the selection was well thought out. The desert was excellent which was a chocolate ganache topped with bacon bits. Overall, the price point was a bit too high for the quality of the food but the experience was fun. Would recommend to try out.

In two words, very disappointing. Already addressed my food restrictions while making online reservation, I still emphasized again upon arrival that I don’t eat mayonnaise and mustard. Waitor was laughing and told me “there is no mayonnaise and mustard in our food.” But guess what is in salad dressing? Full of mayo🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Arles restaurant came highly recommended for a special occasion, so I chose it to celebrate my birthday dinner. From the moment we stepped in, the warm welcome from Iris stood out. She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, setting the tone for what we hoped would be a memorable experience. We opted for the five-course tasting menu with wine pairings, a choice that should have showcased the restaurant’s culinary prowess. While the food had its highs and lows, one aspect that truly impressed was the exceptional selection of wines. Each pairing was perfectly matched to the dishes, enhancing the overall experience. Iris elevated this even further with her great storytelling, giving us insightful and engaging background on each wine. Her knowledge and passion added a personal touch that made the wine pairings one of the most enjoyable aspects of the evening. However, the food itself was a bit of a mixed bag. While two of the five dishes reached the high standards one would expect in this price range, the remaining three left something to be desired. These dishes felt like a letdown, hovering somewhere between laziness and overly pretentious execution. One of the biggest disappointments was a dish that involved serving a semi-fresh cabbage cut in half, hidden under an overly salty sauce—hardly the creativity or finesse I had hoped for. As a firm believer that food should not only look good but also deliver balanced textures and flavors, some dishes fell short. Thankfully, the fish dishes were a saving grace. Their presentation was impeccable, and the taste was genuinely exceptional. Even though they were prepared as ceviche—a nod to Latin American cuisine—this was a curious choice given that the restaurant is marketed as a French bistro. In conclusion, while Arles has potential, the inconsistency across the menu made it difficult to fully justify the high price tag. That said, the wines were an absolute highlight, with Iris’s storytelling and knowledge making the pairings truly unforgettable. With a little more attention to flavor and balance in the food, the overall experience could be significantly elevated.

Amazing food, staff and ambiance! Def worth the money

The food quality was excellent for the price, and the service was friendly and polite. However, I occasionally felt a bit rushed, as my plate was taken before I had finished, especially when I still wanted to enjoy the sauce with my bread. Aside from that, everything was great. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, and the location is in a fantastic part of Amsterdam.

I was there with two friends, we each had the 4-course menu which switches throughout the year. The food was amazing, really tasteful and very well put together. We had a great Chardonnay as well, the wine menu is extensive as well. The highlight is the desert - the Riz au Lait was mesmerizing. All staff is really welcoming too, super friendly and all courses are being explained to you as served. In the end we had a cocktail with orange, vodka, cognac and cinnamon on top, fantastic taste! Great experience overall, would definitely recommend and I am coming back for sure!

My husband and I went for dinner on our last night in Amsterdam. This restaurant was the worst restaurant we have ever been to, the owners and his wife are racist and very disrespectful. The food is plain and tasteless, we had a fish that had no taste at all.

Perfect place for a nice evening accompanied by the good food. The re-constructed Cesar salad (on the picture) is a really great idea!

We did the five course tasting menu with the wine pairing on August 12th, 2024. It was well worth it. A very informative experience - food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Our server was a local girl and she was so friendly and helpful.

This family-run restaurant is our absolute favorite in Amsterdam. The only reason i would not leave a good review is so that we can keep it to ourselves :) the guys will go above and beyond to cater to your wishes. The varied and seasonal menu has something for everyone and the wine pairing is excellent.

Mi marido y yo cenamos aquí por recomendación de un amigo holandés. La comida es deliciosa. Optamos por la comida de cuatro platos con los maridajes de vinos. La comida comenzó con una ensalada tipo César con pan caliente de masa madre. ¡El pan era divino! Muy bien. Esto fue seguido por un increíble ceviche. Los sabores eran impresionantes. El principal fue un pollo sous vide servido con verduras asadas sobre un puré de camote. Me hubiera lamido el plato con gusto. De postre comimos arroz con helado de vainilla y un chorrito de caramelo. Los maridajes de vinos lo realzaron todo! El servicio fue impecable y amable. Disfrutamos aprendiendo sobre la comida y el vino. Gran lugar para relajarse y disfrutar de Amsterdam.

Vinimos a Arles para una buena comida para nuestra última noche en Amsterdam este viaje. Estábamos buscando un restaurante de lujo de alta gama y optamos por un restaurante con opinión Michelin, ya que pensamos que sería fiable. El restaurante es muy caro, así que teníamos grandes expectativas. Mi marido tuvo la comida de 4 platos y opté por una ensalada y plato principal. Hicimos maridajes de vino con nuestra comida. El maridaje de vinos era bastante perfecto. La decepción vino cuando tanto mi esposo como yo comimos la ensalada romana, la suya se veía y sabía increíble, pero la mía vino y estaba húmeda y marchita, incluso el tallo parecía viejo y la parte superior de las hojas se cortó y marchitó, y se marchitó dentro. Mientras cavaba en su ensalada y yo abría la mía, señalé la discrepancia. La camarera se apresuró a llevársela, pero solo para que unos señores que parecían estar a cargo me la trajeran de vuelta para asegurarme que la ensalada estaba fresca y el chef había pretendido que se sirviera marchita y húmeda. Luego explicó que el Chef debió haberlo quemado quizás un poco más que el otro en nuestra mesa. Me ofrecieron otro aperitivo, sin embargo, no tenían otra ensalada que ofrecer, así que debido a que solo había aperitivos a base de carne para un reemplazo, tomé a regañadientes la misma ensalada marchita triste y me la comí “como pretendía el Chef”. La textura era terrible y me recordó a comer la ensalada aderezada de ayer que pasó la noche en la nevera. Pagamos 15 euros por esta experiencia de ensalada verdaderamente muy pequeña y triste. Curiosamente, a la mesa vecina se le sirvieron 2 de las mismas ensaladas que se parecían a la ensalada de mi esposo y no a mi marchita feria. Esto nos llevó a un mal comienzo: ¿por qué no simplemente reemplazar mi ensalada como se solicita por una menos quemada, por qué ser tan arrogante e insistir en que estaba fresca y bien cuando era claramente diferente? Muy decepcionante experiencia. El aperitivo de pescado de mi esposo estaba “bien”, su pollo principal era muy agradable, mi filete principal era muy sabroso, pero era una carne cortada inusual con un montón de áreas de tejido conectivo difíciles de cortar. Las verduras estaban perfectamente hechas. Su postre fue genial. El servicio fue en su mayoría adecuadamente atento, el lapso extraño. Nos sentamos en la parte trasera por las puertas del patio y la ubicación era increíble con un pero de una brisa. Sobreprecio por la calidad de la comida y el contenido del menú, hemos tenido muchas mejores experiencias gastronómicas en Amsterdam y el precio era más razonable. ¡Experiencia decepcionante!

A very cozy restaurant with excellent and tasty food at a reasonable price. However, it's not toddler friendly (they don't have high chairs for babys or food that can entertain the LOs, such as fries) which can be a deal breaker for some parents.

We came to Arles for a nice meal out for our last evening in Amsterdam this trip. We were looking for a high end fancy restaurant and opted for a Michelin reviewed restaurant as we thought it would be reliable. The restaurant is very expensive, so we had high expectations. My husband had the 4 course meal and I opted for a salad and main course. We did wine pairings with our meal. The wine pairings were quite perfect. The disappointment came when both my husband and I had the romaine salad, his looked and tasted amazing, but mine came and was wet and wilted, even the stem looked old and the top of the leaves were cut off and wilted, and it was wilted inside. As he dug into his salad and I cut mine open, I pointed out the discrepancy. They were quick to take it away, but only to bring it back to assure me it was fresh and the chef had intended it to be served wilted and wet, and the Chef must have just torched it maybe a bit longer than the other. I was offered another appetizer but since there was only meat based appetizers for a replacement I reluctantly took the same sad wilted salad back and ate it “as the Chef intended”. The texture was terrible and reminded me of eating yesterday’s dressed salad that spent the night in the fridge. A lot of money (15 euros) for a very small sad salad. Interestingly enough the neighbouring table had 2 of the same salads that resembled my husband’s salad and not my wilted fair. This hit us off to a bad start - why not just replace my salad as requested with a less torched one, why be so arrogant and insist it was fresh and fine when it was clearly different? Very disappointing and in bad taste for them. My husband’s fish appetizer was fine, his chicken main was very nice, my steak main was very flavourful but was an unusual cut with lots of tough connective tissue spots to cut around. The vegetables were perfectly done. His dessert was great. The service was mostly adequately attentive, the odd lapse. We sat in the back by the patio doors and the location was amazing with a but of a breeze. Overpriced for the quality and contents of the menu. There you have it, if you have seen any of my other reviews you will know I give high praise when warranted and tell it like it is when it is not!

Amazing place! Everything about this restaurant is just perfect. We had the tasting menu and I was amazed by the excellent flavors! They know how to use each ingredient to its perfection. The staff is very friendly! We had an amazing time and we will definitely be back!!

Nice restaurant and the service was great !

We chose Arles to celebrate our family event together with our son and we had a wonderful time there. Food itself was very good to excellent, but what brought our experience to an extraordinary level was the attention to details and service. We enjoyed a four course menu with wine pairing which was just enough and wines that were served with each dish were a perfect match. During the whole evening our waiter was incredibly friendly, we felt welcome, he told us the story about each course and wine and gave us a brief history of this wonderful family establishment. Almost felt like we enjoyed dinner at a friend's house. Except none of our friends can cook like this. We’d come back any time.

We have been 2 times to this small place which seems oriented towards delivery, but also has a very nice mezzanine with about 6 tables. We took menus with half a grilled chicken accompanied by french fries or grilled potato or rice. All very good and tasty at a reasonable price. We came here twice so we recommend it

Nice wine list, good dishes that are beautifully presented. Small miscommunication about the arancini, but that was more than neatly resolved. Simply a very nice place with a lot of attention for the guest. Riz au lait is of an unprecedented level. 10/10. Must visit!!!

Great food overall but felt like the focus is too much on the technique rather than flavor in especially the entrees. Dessert was incredible. Service was good but a little forgetful. Atmosphere was amazing and had nice interactions with some tables around us. All and all a great night and would recommend going here.

I went with my 18 and 12 year old children. The quality of the ingredients was good but the recipes were boring, none of the dishes excited me. Also my daughter found a hair on the plate with asparagus and chorizo. We wanted to order 2 menus of 5 dishes and one of 4 but we were told that it wasn't possible... we all had to take the same route. Friendly but average service. The location was well taken care of

I was traveling around Europe and made reservations at many restaurants. I am so happy I visited Arles. The atmosphere was great, the staff were very attentive, and the food very creative and tasty. A great value also for a 2 hour meal. I would highly recommend for people looking for 1 star Michelin quality but at a reasonable price Thank you

We came across this little gem in our neighborhood and we are so glad we stumbled upon it. We love tasting menus and this one did not disappoint. Everything was phenomenal from the cocktails and wine, to the service and of course, the food. We will definitely be back and would recommend this gezellige restaurant to all.

Le service était par ailleurs assez lent et la salle très bruyante. Le rapport qualité /prix n’est pas adapté comparativement à d’autres restaurants d’Amsterdam au même prix et bien meilleur.

Delicious food and drinks, nice and good service

I booked this restaurant (about 3 weeks prior) for a large group post-meeting work event consisting of Dutch, French, American and German visitors (many palettes) and high expectations for quality and service. We went for the 5 course meal (which also accommodates vegetarians). It was spectacular and just the right amount of food. The flavors were fresh and varied and each dish perfectly harmonized in flavor, texture and temperature. EXCELLENT. While we did not opt for the wine pairing, the staff recommended some great white and red wines which were lovely with our meal. The service was attentive and kind and made sure to bring our our courses all at once. As for the atmosphere, we were seated in the back room which resembles a sort of greenhouse. The ambiance added to the feeling of ''freshness'' and had extra charm with the rainy Amsterdam sky and glowing lamps. All in all, this group of working professionals eats all over the world at high end restaurants and were pleasantly surprised and highly delighted with the French cuisine prepared at the restaurant. I am so glad I went with my gut and booked here instead of reserving one of the more experimental Michelin star restaurants I was considering.

We are three, but only one small cafe teble for us. I didn't feel so welcomed, just be packed.

Unfortunately, good approaches are obscured by a few misfires. The slightly out of the way, simply designed restaurant offers a promising menu, but it doesn't meet all expectations. The menu, which was offered at a fair price, began with two cold starters that had obviously been waiting for the guests for some time. The first course was very questionable with hard celery spaghetti and a very cold (!?) poached egg. The asparagus was also cold, which can at least be accepted as a salad. The best thing was a piece of pork neck, cooked sous vide, fried until crispy and served with a fine meat jus, simple but good. The service is friendly and helpful, but sometimes a bit hectic and inattentive. A little more care would make the restaurant an insider tip.
