Arles in Oude Pijp

The dishes were delicious, though on the small side. Luckily, they came with bread, otherwise we would have left the table hungry. A side dish as an option? And previously, the dishes were explained beforehand: a list of three ingredients doesn't tell us much. Moreover, there was some confusion when we specifically requested an explanation because the (otherwise very attentive but non-Dutch-speaking) waiter didn't know the correct English translation.

The food was delicious. Highly recommended. The team was incredibly hospitable.

Not quite as good as I expected. We left feeling a bit disappointed. The food was okay, but overall it lacked balance. The highlight for us was the bread served with olive oil, sourced from a bakery just around the corner :) There was also some confusion with the service. I ordered the set course menu, while my friend chose dishes from the à la carte menu, which seemed to cause timing issues, as our dishes were not served together.

Visited again after 4 years. Menu improved and the service was perfect. Had to wait a short while for our table, they provided a glass of bubbles in the meanwhile. That’s how you do it! Highly recommend, upgraded to 5 stars! Review 2021: I love the hospitality and vibe of this place. Maybe it was because of the new menu, but some things could be better in terms of coherence. I’m sure they will manage to improve. Keep up originality, loved the parsley icecream and the beautiful wine pairings.

Arles was a great experience. We dropped by on short notice and received great service. And the food was delicious. Especially the pork belly dish I had was a winner. The cod was really good as well. They have a good selection of wine that should suit every palate and price point.

We came here for an Amex dining experience and were so impressed with the food, ambience and servers. It is a cozy restaurant with a not too complex menu but everything works. One of our new favorites in Amsterdam.

Quite nice! We visited Arles for a dinner. It is a cozy and relaxing place consisting of three small dining areas. Our table was at the back of the restaurant, in a closed yard type. The decoration was simple and warm, as it should be, while attenton has been paid in details. It was slightly noisy, but could be expected since it was full. Service was spot on! Nice work. We tried the trhee course menu. It started with a really tasty amuse bush, with beatroot as teh main ingredien - a really refreshing way to start your dinner. Later, what came as a starter was quite unique, and all the ingredients blended beutifully with each other. As a main dish we served with cod, really tasty combination of flavors in every bite, probably one of the best prepared cods we have ever tried. The thirds course was a rice pudding, which was nothing special, a small downgrade compared to the rest dishes. The wine card, consisting only of french wines was unque and rich, our wine was nice. Overall it was a nice experience and would reccomend. However it would be more wise to try the ala cart compared to the set menu, in order to try more flavors.

Lovely food I must say! Did 5 courses and they were all delicious. There could have been a bit more varied in textures, but the flavours were spot on. I do think the service was friendly, but was a little slow though. We really had to wait a lot to get their attention. We were sat through 2 courses without drinks for example. But overal the experience was nice.

What a delightful discovery. A southern French restaurant that is both elegant and completely unpretentious. A nice variety of dishes (plenty of vegetarian options), good wine list, really high quality food (the steak tartare was delicious even for someone who rarely eats beef). Some unusual food pairings together with great classics. It’s a hit with French locals, which says a lot. Some hiccups in the service: swapped dishes, wrong wines, a bit of time mismanagement before desserts. Details, really.

Very slow service. No beer options apart from the standard Heineken. I had a three course menu and the dessert was disppointingly bland. On the plus side, the menu was not overly priced.

I had a fantastic evening here last week for my birthday. The service was so friendly and attentive. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere (and finally, a place where you could actually sit comfortably, not on those rickety chairs), the wines were excellent, and not to mention the delicious dishes (delicious oysters, risotto, and salmon with bouillabaisse sauce). We had the 5-course menu, and each course was exceptional in its own way, yet all the courses harmoniously complemented each other. They experimented with different flavors, elevating even familiar French dishes and giving you the feeling of eating something completely new. Nothing could have been done better. Everything was exceptional, although a bit noisy, perhaps just the right occasion. They also open the windows to a patio, and at night, the lights let in mosquitoes, which makes it a bit uncomfortable.

This place is excellent. Everything we ate was delicious. Their risotto is incredible. They welcomed us with complementary wine. All their staff is very attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.

Superb in almost every way, we ordered the four-course tasting with wine pairing, a very nice alternative, generous with the good-quality wine. The fresh fish starter should perhaps be reworked because the pesto masks the delicate flavor of the fish and detracts from the experience. A wonderful discovery!

Enjoyed a delicious 4-course surprise Chef’s menu, with great service!

We had high expectations from this restaurant but unfortunately the food was not great. The bread they served with olive oil was amazing, let me start with that. So was the dessert. Risotto rice was not properly cooked, the parsley dish was disgusting (take it out of the menu, yuck!), my bf had the duck dish and he really did not like the paste it was served with. The service was good though and so was the atmosphere. I would give it another try if they improve the menu.

Prices/quality wise 4 out of 5 stars. Food wise they could slightly improve, personally found it a lot of veggies and small portion sizes. Dessert a 10/10. All in all a good restaurant!

It was our first time at Arles, and we had a lovely time! We choose the 4-course chef's menu, which was not too expensive. I liked that there were a lot of vegetarian dishes, they were very inventive and delicious too! Service was really good and made us feel welcome, they were quick and the personnel knew a lot about the wines as well. Would definitely come back here!

This is a small, intimate French style restaurant in a quiet street. The staff were incredibly attentive, informed and pleasant. There was a 4 or 5 course taster menu in addition to an a la carte option - all from the same menu comprising 3 starters, 5 mains and 3 desserts. There was a decent French wine menu. The food was excellent and well presented, and represented good value for money. Our bill for 2 was around €220 including a bottle (and a half!) of wine.

Amazing experience. A very cute restaurant. Small and cozy. I ordered two oysters as a starter, one cooked and one raw; both were finger-licking good. Then I decided to choose the 5-course menu. The waiters were charming and attentive, explaining each dish in detail. The menu started with fresher dishes, progressing to the duck, and ended with dessert, which was also refreshing. I thought everything was delicious.

We found the first dishes of the chef's menu a bit less, main course and dessert were delicious. However, we had a very nice interaction with the chef who was open to constructive criticism!

Enjoyed a nice meal. Four-course dinner had two vegetable dishes (asparagus and roasted sprouts) that both came with yoghurt; was nicely made, but could have been done differently. Furthermore, delicious fish and, original, a rocket ice cream for dessert. Good wine and despite the enormous crowds a relaxed welcome!

A very nice cosy restaurant, but I was a little bit disappointed with the flavors of the food, especially the green curry beurre blanc sauce, it only tasted of butter and nothing else. I got the same with other dishes only one flavor and no depth. In the end the restaurant is very good value for money due to the quality if ingredients.

3 (Good). The wine and service at Arles was excellent. The food was ok. We had the four course tasting menu. The sprout dish was tasty; however, other dishes like the yellowtail were less to my taste. The waiters at Arles were all great, and the wine menu was very good. Arles was nice, and if the menu excites you then you should go. However, in my opinion there are better places in Amsterdam at this price point.

Out of this world food, with a down to earth and warm atmosphere!

Hello, decent food, the service did its best given the crowd, a lot of noise, and you forgot to deduct the 40 euros paid when booking. Please respond to me as soon as possible to correct it.

Disappointed in the drink service. Was given the option of still or sparkling water, we asked for still expecting tap water but that was not the case. We were charged 6 euro per bottle of water. A glass of wine is very small, 1/4 the glass. We were given bread (we did not ask for it) and were charged. Felt very excessive in up charging. Took away from the ambiance and enjoyment of the meal as the food was quite tasty. Would not return.

Not as good as I expected. We had 4 course chef's menu and wine pairing. Their chef's menu is okay but not excellent, not too creative, so in my opinion it's not worth the money. The wine pairing is weird, it doesn't go well with the food. Maybe only the wine that goes with the dessert.

Really enjoyed the food here! The Chef did a great job with creating a great menu with wonderful flavors. My favorite was the mackerel, Iberico cheek, and the beetroot blood orange gremolada (using that inspiration for my own cooking)! Only dish that was a bit overwhelming for my palette was the nori yoghurt Brussel sprouts, still really liked the nori yoghurt combo but all together was a bit too much. However, they gave us an extra dish because we didn’t like it as much, which was not needed but shows such amazing hospitality and service (we got the yellow tail which was really good). Great service from the staff - very kind and explained all the dishes. Also gave great wine recommendations. 10/10 would recommend for a good fine dining option without heavily breaking the bank whilst still getting good quality, unique food with great service.

Verfijnde Franse keuken met een verrassende twist – aanrader! Op 5 april hebben wij een fantastische avond beleefd bij Restaurant Arles in Amsterdam. We genoten van een 5-gangen diner met bijpassend wijnarrangement en werden geweldig ontvangen door eigenaar Max en zijn enthousiaste team. De sfeer is warm, losjes en stijlvol – precies zoals je hoopt bij een moderne bistro. Chef Numa Muller verrast met Franse gerechten die nét even anders zijn. Alles wat op tafel kwam was niet alleen prachtig opgemaakt, maar vooral waanzinnig lekker. Het hoogtepunt? Het hoofdgerecht met Iberico ham – een absolute smaakexplosie. Ook de wijnen waren perfect afgestemd. Spannend, karaktervol en vaak natuurwijnen, wat echt iets extra’s toevoegt aan de beleving. Arles is een plek waar vakmanschap, creativiteit en gastvrijheid samenkomen. Wij waren diep onder de indruk en komen hier zeker terug!
