The food is good. The wine is more mid-range. The service is very attentive to the customer's needs, and the waiters are attentive. Considering the average quality of so-called "Italian" places in this city (i.e., mediocre), Assaggi ranks pretty high.

The food was very variable. Some dishes were super delicious, others very boring. Had ordered a wine menu for which we always got the wine 5-10 minutes after the meal. The staff was very nice but did not follow where we were in the meal

Highly recommended Italian restaurant. From the very beginning, the friendliness and politeness of the staff really stand out. The ragù pasta was delicious, everything is homemade: the pasta is freshly made in the kitchen and the ragù meat is top quality. The desserts were amazing. Special mention to Fabio, who is very kind and welcoming, always with a smile, which makes the whole experience even better. We will definitely come back!

But I would still choose a different place for better value.

While the service is polished and the ambiance whispers of a sophisticated Roman evening, the kitchen appears to be reading from a completely different script—one potentially written for toddlers. One must admire the bravery required to serve portions this microscopic at Amsterdam prices. It is less of a meal and more of a gastronomic tease. However, once you navigate the vast expanse of white porcelain to find your actual dinner, the real trouble begins. The selection of proteins suggests a chef who has developed a deep, personal affection for connective tissue. The meat was so aggressively fatty it felt less like a curated cut and more like a collection of trimmings the butcher forgot to discard. In a city known for its culinary precision, this level of "rustic" butchery borders on the insulting. Then, we must address the culinary heresy that is Assaggi’s take on a classic. Carbonara is a dish of ego and restraint—egg, guanciale, pecorino, pepper. It does not require a vegetable intervention. To the chef's inexplicable credit, they decided to introduce pumpkin to the mix. The result? A saccharine, mushy disaster with the structural integrity and flavor profile of puréed baby food. It wasn't just an experimental failure; it was a textural nightmare that insulted the very heritage the restaurant claims to represent. Go for the candlelight, stay for a glass of wine, but for the love of all things Italian, eat a proper dinner elsewhere before you arrive. Assaggi proves that you can’t eat the atmosphere, no matter how "excellent" it might be.

However, the swordfish didn't quite match our expectations, similar to the starter in flavor. We also ordered asparagus, but it was a bit on the limp side rather than crispy. We experienced a wait of 20-30 minutes for our dishes, and everything arrived ALL at once, which made the table feel a bit crowded. Overall, it felt like a standard Italian dining experience, not quite living up to the 4.7-star rating from over 5,000 reviews. It was also not fully booked or filled up, so feel free to walk-in! On a positive note, the interior was lovely, featuring a hanging fireplace, and our waitress was friendly, even if she was quite occupied.

Tbh, we were let down. The food was just ok. Service took a very long time and we were sitting without drinks for a while. Drinks were also soso. The location was not busy, but even so, it felt like no one was moving. If the food had been great, that would have made it better. But honestly everything was was very basic. Also, finally, the music was way too loud for normal dining. Service was please pleasant at least. But we would not return.

I have been to Assaggi three times, and this third visit finally stood out. I won’t compare it to the others because the food tonight was on another level. The 24-hour slow-cooked beef cheek had subtle, layered flavors that quietly brought me to Italy. It tasted like what great meat should truly be. The rigatoni was perfect al dente, with a sauce that showed real precision and passion. Every bite felt balanced and intentional. The carpaccio was simple, clean, and genuinely well made, with a presentation that felt almost heavenly. And the service from Letitia made the whole night even more special. She was warm, attentive, and added a personal touch that stayed with me long after the meal. Tonight made me understand Assaggi in a new way. I would gladly come back again and again.

Great. Best Italian pasta I ate in Amsterdam

Based on the high ratings/reviews, we decided to eat here. The service was cool and commercial, and hardly anyone spoke Dutch, except for the hostess. Vitello tonnato was sold out!? Okay, so we'd have a carpaccio as a starter. We were asked to grab our phones and film the moment the carpaccio arrived with cold ice cream. As if a high-end culinary dish was being served. But honestly, the carpaccio was very tasty; a nice start, we thought. However, that turned out to be different. Rigatoni with Black Angus ragout, which is essentially just spaghetti bolognese, except they'd forgotten the meat. Swordfish rolls, completely dried-out fish filled with bread, were truly unappetizing. Finally, rigatoni carbonara with guanciale. It had nothing to do with carbonara; it was a sweet, red, unclear sauce with two pieces of guanciale. It was a one-time thing, but never again. Also, very noisy because of drunk tourists. Finally, and quite strangely, when we received the bill, we were kindly asked to write a review together with the hostess. We'll do that later, as it turned out to be quite time-consuming... and that's where I genuinely question the authenticity of some of the reviews.

The food was absolutely delicious! The pork belly and pappardelle were highly recommended. The host also provided excellent service! The last time we visited was eight years ago, but we'll definitely be back sooner this time!

The staff were not friendly at all from the moment we walked into the restaurant. They acted rude the entire time. The portions were very small and extremely greasy. The prices did not match the quality of the food. They charged a lot for tiny portions and very average tasting dishes. We thought at least the tiramisu would be good since it is an Italian restaurant but it came in a very small portion and was very expensive and instead of ladyfingers they used plain cake. It is the first time I have seen an Italian restaurant that cannot make a proper tiramisu. Overall the food was very greasy and bland the portions were small yet very expensive and the service was not good at all. If you do not want to throw your money away I do not recommend it do not go.

NOTE: This experience was last August. A very good Italian trattoria, run by an Italian woman, which immediately inspires confidence. The ambiance and decor are very inviting, the lighting is soft (though a bit dim), and while it's not quiet, it's not at all bothersome; you can easily have a conversation. The waiter's service was excellent and professional: his experience was evident (he spoke Spanish and Italian, among other languages), and his manner was friendly but not intrusive. The food was delicious, and they even brought a lovely touch: a vol-au-vent for each of us (my partner and I). We shared an eggplant Parmesan, which looked unusual, but was excellent and plentiful. For our main courses, we each ordered a mushroom risotto, both perfectly cooked and delicious, and served generously (they grated the Parmesan cheese to our liking, right then and there). How grateful we were for this wonderful dinner after days of "enduring" Dutch cuisine! ;) With our coffee, they also gave us a mini lemon sorbet. Finally, the owner (who's Sicilian) was incredibly kind. Authentic, pleasant, excellent service, and fantastic food. I highly recommend it.

I was alone and was seated at the bar. I had the night of my life. The service was incredibly personal. The food is delicious. What really struck me about this restaurant is the personal attention. That's what makes it special. The staff shows personal interest. You're truly seen in this restaurant, and you don't see that often anymore. Besides the fact that the food is absolutely top-notch. Absolutely recommended.
