Excellent food, strong cocktails, lovely service

We came here 4 yrs ago, we had an amazing time and wanted to come back. This time things were different, the restaurant seems dirty (eg sticky tables, dirty glasses, a lot of midges!!) and not being taking care of, which gives a lack of confidence of the food quality we get. The service was terrible because of the lack of staff, only two persons for the full place (a third one arrived late in the evening) and we ended up waiting 40 minutes to get something to drink. Not sure the waiter knew the menu and wine list very well too. The food was nice but definitely not as good as last time, even though the menu did not change much in the last four years. Some dishes were way too spicy, the staff should probably warn at the order. The management should probably reflect on how to take a better care of this place before it turns as a disappointment for most of the guests — this is the genuine intention that I have for writing this review

The food was good but expensive. Furthermore, the restaurant seemed to be falling apart from poverty: sagging benches, a musty smell, a peeling ceiling, and wobbly tables. A sinking ship?

The food and service was excellent! The tuna crudo and oysters are must a must try. The sauces and marinade complement the seafood really well. Also enjoyed the tartare and crab bao. Everything is carefully presented and meant for sharing a few at a time. Absence of a bartender this day was felt, however our server provided amazing service with his warm presence and recommendations. The cocktails he made were great; a reason to return for sure. Definitely try the espresso martini, and make sure to reserve a spot over the weekend. Bedankje!

Delicious food for a reasonable price.

Disappointing, especially given the other reviews. The menu seemed interesting, but in reality presented all similar flavours and lacked in brightness. Even though the restaurant wasn’t even half full, the food took very long to arrive and the kitchen had already run out of rice. Wine menu was alright. Would not recommend or go back; seems like this place was a hotspot a couple of years ago but has lost it’s glory.

Delicious Korean-inspired food—fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. We had the Korean Crispy Chicken and Crispy Prawns, along with a refreshing cucumber and cabbage salad and some excellent oysters. Desserts were also a highlight. The atmosphere was lively with great music, creating a welcoming vibe. Service was very friendly, though a bit relaxed, so a little patience goes a long way. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it!

I had been in this restaurant in previous location and I really liked but we tried it in the new location and it was really disappointing. Not sure if they are still adapting to the new place but every dish took a very long time to come and the food wasn’t very good.

The Amsterdam usual plague that we have to suffer in this city. There was one person on the floor, one chef. Any wine we ordered on the menu were not available. We settle for whatever they had left. After 15 minutes waiting for our drinks, I asked where were our drinks and took another 10 minutes to have them. I am talking about two glass of wines. To note that at the time of the order, there were only two tables with customers. The guy brings a supposed-to-be cava but it was flat. We told him, he answered that “the owner had a party last week, so maybe that’s the reason?” He brought the bottle to show us that was a cava, not sure what that has to do with the lack of the bubbles, but guess what? The bottle he brought us to show that it was a cava was just a white wine. This means that the person was not able to distinguish a bottle of cava from white wine. Do I have to continue? We are tired to experienced this ridiculousness in Amsterdam when we try to go out and relax with a nice dinner out. You have a restaurant, please make sure you have a service or the items on the menu. Otherwise, please tell people upfront the you are not able to deliver, giving at least the choice to leave before to endure what we experienced.

The restaurant was empty on Wednesday evening, while Bar Centraal next door was buzzing. The food was disappointing and overpriced. The service was friendly but all in all, not recommended…

Super good food and great service!

Baos were nice but too spicy ending up loosing the taste of the rest of ingredients. We also had the fried kentucky mushrooms which were ok but not great. The steak was also ok, a bit more chewy than I wanted. The best was the mango sticky rice. Service can improve.

Super cozy little restaurant with a really nice vibe! The service was great and the food was absolutely incredible, all dishes were super tasty and the menu has a great balance of meat and vegetarian dishes. This place has the look and feel of a fine dining restaurant but is still very affordable. I would definitely recommend and I’ll surely be back!

The food was average yet the size and price didn’t match. It was way too expensive for what it was. Cocktail prices were also ridiculously high for their tiny portions. We paid 40EU each and the second I reached home I made myself a proper dinner 🥘. Disappointing

A fantastic experience at Branie. Came here alone and was quickly greeted by Remco. Had a lovely conversation with him and other staff, and thoroughly enjoyed the sea bass, soft shell crab bao, cucumber, several cocktails and the Panadacotta dessert. Everything was so delicious and at a fair price. Next time I am in Amsterdam I will be back, and I will bring friends :) If 6 stars out of 5 was possible, I would give it! Thank you Remco :)

My fave go to! Amazing service and even better food!

A place lack basic humanity approach. We arrived, after table allocation we were left unattended for 15mins. There are 3 waiters, all of them did not even bother to provide menu or ask if we need anything and actually even look at our table. We left the place and no one even noticed that we are leaving. Additionally, when we book a table the system did not ask a place whether bar or table options. When we arrived we were placed to a bar because other tables were full already. Customers should be informed whether they will be placed to a bar during the reservation.

The food itself was fine and the service was very friendly, but I thought it was way too expensive. We had 5 small dishes and some wine together and spent over 60 euros per person. For that amount of money I'd rather go out for a "real" meal.

The pandancotta and the kentucky friend champignons left an amazing taste in my mouth that left me dreaming for more the day after. Their cocktails were also on point for a fair price 👍🏻

I've been going to Branie at least once a year since it opened around five years ago. The dishes are delicious and the best ones have been on the menu since the start. The softshell crab bao, KFC and the sea bass are amazing. After having the bimi I doubt if I'll ever have broccoli again at home... The service is also great, everyone is very friendly. 5/5!

I read some negative reviews before coming which was a surprise considering the nice experience I had on previous occasion. However my experience was still positive - the food was great and we were in and out quite quickly, however we did visit in the early eve before it was busy.

BRAINE was once a great local restaurant, but after our visit recently, I'm sad to say that we won't be going back. Severely understaffed. Took 1.5 hours to receive starters, and another 1.5 hours for mains! 45 min to receive cocktails, and beer was ordered 3x before delivered. In total we were waiting 3 hours for the dishes we ordered, with no one checking in at our table. Nothing but a bowl of popcorn delivered when we sat down. We only saw 3 people working the whole restaurant of 20+ tables. It was the first day for the server, but she was fully on her own. There was only one person in the kitchen, who also may have been new. You could see their exhaustion and frustration - way too many tables and for 1 chef, 1 server, and 1 bartender/manager. Food was ok, but on this last visit felt uninspired and flat. The excitement of the past BRAINE dishes is gone. The beef starter was incredibly chewy to the point that we could not eat some of it. Finally, avoid the toilets. They hadn't been cleaned in a while, and the toilet itself was falling apart in the men's + the toilet paper roll was on the wet floor in the women's. Better to wait and use the facilities at home.

Very overrated. It took SO LONG to get the food served. We ordered around 6 dishes, all at the same time and it took around 1.5 hours for all the dishes to arrive including the drinks. The staff seemed rushed and understaffed. The food was alright too, not worth the price.

The dishes were tasty, fresh and beautifully presented. Unfortunately the service left much to be desired. Due to the crowds, it took longer before we were helped, and the staff seemed rushed. Understandable on a busy evening, but it did take away from the experience. Still, I would definitely come back here for the quality of the food.

We have had exceptional experiences at Branie in the past but unfortunately tonight’s service fell short. We arrived at 6:30 with only one other couple seated in the restaurant and were given a menu and popcorn - which was delicious. Upon arrival we noticed a smell of drain, which we put down the the old Amsterdam building, but after ordering also noticed several drain flies on the walls. We ordered 6 dishes between us but had to wait for 2 hours before the majority of them arrived - when they were finally served the food was cold. The first dish to arrive was a Bao bun, but our order had been mixed up - we asked for Crab but received Chicken. There were multiple tables served before us including large groups which was disappointing as we were not communicated to by the staff nor kitchen. When the food arrived cold we sent it back and decided to leave with little apologies or acknowledgment of the situation from the staff. We have been lucky not to experience this kind of service in Amsterdam and hope this was down to an exceptionally busy night but we were disappointed to say the least.

Really good mix of Asian influences turned into delicious dishes: salmon tataki, grilled sea bass, Korean fried chicken, and on and on - each one with a delicious sauce to mix with rice or kimshi. Also great drinks and a nice wine selection. The owner tends the tables in a cozy atmosphere. A place to enjoy with calm, being surprised at every dish.

The food was absolutely delicious. No doubt. But the fact that they did not return the 45€ reservation fee, we had to chase them multiple times, and only after a month we received it back tainted the whole experience.

Used to be one of my favourite restaurants in Amsterdam, been here plenty of times. Service has always been excellent, but yesterday, to my big disappointment, this wasn’t the case. When the owner was serving the food on our table, I asked him if he could bring the rice with these dishes (as I did not know they were our last dishes we ordered) to which he answered aggressively “he only had two hands”. I tried to explain myself when he came back with the rice, and his answer wasn’t any better. That ruined the end of the dinner. Won’t be coming back.

Food is good, yet it is quite pricey in relation to the portion served. The cocktail (hop & scotch) is quite good. Not 100% satisfied given quite some positive reviews. Had a good dinner but not sure will come back.

Good vibe to have drinks but the food did not meet my expectations. Mostly liked the spicy aubergine, the bao chicken was a bit disappointing, too much fried batter and not much flavour. Everything else was just fine but for me as an asian-food-lover nothing to go back for or maybe I ll have to go try other dishes on the menu

We came across the Branie by chance at the end of February and were pleasantly surprised. Despite not having a reservation, we still got a table for two people. The concept can be called “sharing is caring”: you order several different dishes and then try them out. Of course you can also just order something for yourself and eat it alone - but then it's only half as nice 😉 Everything tasted great, the staff was super friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was lovely. Special praise for my cocktail, the name of which I unfortunately forgot. But I remember it very well in terms of taste. Very fresh and you also noticed that you had ordered something alcoholic 🫰🏻 Prices are slightly higher overall - which is not uncommon in Amsterdam. Thanks for the nice evening 😊

I was expecting way more because of the reviews and pictures online. I felt the choices on the menu (I am pregnant, so maybe that’s why) were very limited. Also alcohol free drinks choice was limited. A lot of fried food. I would like to see more side dishes such as bami or noodles or fried rice on the menu. The dishes that I had were tasty though: KFC Bao, aubergine, and the Korean Fried Chicken were good. One more thing about the atmosphere. The booth couch was uncomfortable and I felt freezing the entire evening even though I wore a woollen sweater and ultimately my husband’s jacket on my legs.

As big time foodies & globetrotters we are a little spoiled, I’m aware. Most of the dishes we had were nice but the overal food experience is just average. Skip the tea leaf salad, it’s rather a cabbage salad. We hoped for the delicious Thai salad we knew from Thailand but nope… the size of the dishes is tiny; the same with the cocktails (however they are delicious). The service is friendly. The atmosphere is ok, a little shabby which is charming but the final bill seems a little out of proportion for what we got. But hey, it feels like this has been the new standard in Amsterdam…

Nice restaurant for Asian fusion cuisine. It proposes mainly plates to share, which tend to be a bit expensive. The service was ok - we had to wait 10 minutes and call the waiter before getting the menu after being seated while the restaurant was not busy. Then it became better and was actually fast once we ordered. The food and the cocktails were very good! The Bao KFC and the Shroom were delicious!

We eat at Branie every time we visit Amsterdam and it's been consistently good. We especially loved the chicken bao, KFC (fried oyster mushrooms that taste like chicken), steak and the pandancotta dessert. I met one of the co-owners, Remco, on our second visit. He gave us several restaurant/bar recommendations for the rest of our European honeymoon which left a great impression on us. Ask him for recommendations, he has good taste.

I highly recommend the 'coquille crudo'! Unbeatable price-quality ratio - under 60 euros for two for food, excluding drinks. Prime location, superb service – the two waiters made sure everything was crystal clear for us. Casual vibes for an intriguing experience. Not so much Asian fusion, but absolutely delightful.

This place is so authentic. I could taste the quality of the products and the love of the chef cooking for their guests. Overall a wonderful place to spend an evening with friends in a relaxing atmosphere.

Het eten was lekker maar niet heel bijzonder, de opmaak van de schaaltjes en borden kan wellicht wat meer van gemaakt worden. Bediening is goed, nog wat onervaren maar ze doen echt super goed hun best, leuk. De sfeer in de zaak is echt matig, op zaterdagavond om half 9 al meer dan de helft lege stoelen is niet goed en niet leuk voor de overige gasten. Het is een lastig straatje met de hele dag markt voor de deur en dan 's avonds de schoonmaakploeg erdoor, helpt ook niet echt mee.

Really enjoyed the food and cocktails, but unfortunately the service was not good. Seemed like they were understaffed and our food was not served together and drinks were forgotten. To be fair the staff were apologetic and did not charge us for everything. I hope the service was just a one off, as the the food and atmosphere were great.

Strolling around Amsterdam's picturesque neighborhoods to locate this charming little eatery. The small plates were full of flavor and personality, and the Asian roots gave them a special punch. Plus for the amazing staff that spend a time with us chatting with us about the city and culinary.

Probably one of the best places food I’ve eaten at in Amsterdam. The food has a lot of delicious flavours and some of the food can be spicy (for those that can’t handle spice), but really good variety and delicious food!

Walked in at around 18:00 and was able to get a table for 1 before it got too busy. The servers were all very attentive and were great at providing recommendations based on my preferences. Everything I tried was very good, but the highlights were the soft shell crab bao and the chimichurri steak.

Sinds de opening van de Filmhallen, een kleine 10 jaar geleden, heeft de horeca in de omgeving een grote vlucht genomen. In de buurt een restaurant kiezen, met veel diversiteit in prijs, keuken en ambiance, is bijna een opgave worden. Die Wahl kann zur Qual werden :-) Branie is een restaurant met de "formule" één of meerdere kleine(re) gerechten te bestellen. Overigens geen minimale bestelling verplichting. De menukaart is niet al te uitgebreid maar wel met ruime variatie. En je kunt natuurlijk delen. Er is geen prijsverschil tussen per glas of direct een hele fles. De bediening is aangenaam en met aandacht. En..maar hoe was het eten? Heerlijk. Kritiekpunten: de wc is wel erg krap bemeten en de muziek had voor ons net wel een streepje of twee minder gemogen. Toen wij er waren was net de dag daarvoor het koffieapparaat defect geraakt. Dus geen klassieke afsluiting. Maar er werd als compensatie wel twee wijnglazen van de rekening afgehaald. Een restaurant om terug te komen.

Holy smoke, the food at this place is something else! So, so good and very reasonably priced for the quality. I can't stop thinking about the fried mushroom dish. The cocktails are also easily amongst the very best in the country. 11/10 :)

Good and service were good. There were a wide range of flavors from Japanese to Korean to Latin. A small menu but good for sharing and date night. The waitress was kind and curious about our visit. The food was perfect portion for small eaters but easy to order to your liking. Tapas style dining.

The drinks and the food were very good! The complimentary pop corn starter had an interesting, spicy, sweet flavor. We ordered 6 dishes for two people and we were pretty full at the end. The fusion dishes were very delicious. The service was quick and the people were friendly. The fish dish and the crab bao buns are a must a must try.

Food and drinks are top tier, mainly ordered the vegetarian selection. Did not disappoint! Looking outside in, the place looks smaller than it actually is. For me, the atmosphere is a bit dark and loud to my liking. But in the end it was a great dinner, staff was lovely and helpful with selections. Definitely recommend.

And we received nothing as an excuse. Nothing. Some of the dishes were better, some too fat. But the portions are very small. So, nothing special and bad service
