The best Japanese miso soup. Great great veggie options and super nice and fast service.

The food was good and I especially enjoyed the selection of different ingredients. The only (for me personally MAJOR) downside is the price. Expect to pay A LOT.

I was craving a nice, warm, spicy soup, and this really satisfied my craving!! 😋 We ordered a bit too much because, of course, you want to try a little bit of everything 😂 We got around 350g for me and 450g for my bf, and we still ended up taking about half of it to go 😅 But honestly, everything was really good and servers were also really friendly! Would definitely come back. ❤️

Great vegetarian Malatang place in Amsterdam

What a great place. Delicious Chinese/Japanese vegetarian food just a 10-minute walk from Central Station. Also very convenient if you're attending a concert at the Muziekgebouw or the Bimhuis. Grab a cup of tea or a cold beer and you're ready to go again. Highly recommended!

The cafe is quite cool, there are a lot of different soups, but ideally, you would know English or use a translator, the seller is quite friendly and happy to help you.

Every time we go, everything goes smoothly. From the service and the food to the location, everything is top-notch. We've never made a reservation and have always found a table, but if you're going with a large group, I recommend booking. The servers have always been very kind and welcoming. Thank you so much!

Very nice place - all vegan (one vegetarian dessert). You choose your own filling, ramen and toppings among big variety of fresh veggies, tofu, eggs, noodles etc. Great service who introduced the concept so it was easy to sit back and enjoy 🍜 We’ll be back!

We ended up here by accident, and it was a happy accident! The best Tom Kha broth I’ve ever had, and I’ve been ordering it everywhere for 20+ years. All the different ingredients I picked out were cooked to perfection despite being many different textures and sizes. I also read up about how they grow all their own mushrooms, I had a lot of different types of mushrooms in my bowl and they were Divine. I would travel back here from Australia to have this again even though it’s a 24 hour transit! I didn’t come to the Netherlands to get ramen, but I’m sure glad I did!

Lovely vegetarian build your own ramen restaurant. Wide variety of choices in ingredients, toppings & broths. Tried the tom kha and my partner had the sichuan. Delicious! Will be back!!

The storefront is unassuming, but once inside, the menu selection is enormous, with a wide variety of fresh ingredients. A special mention goes to the tempeh, which is simply delicious. The staff is attentive and always smiling, which is lovely. In short, I highly recommend it. We'll be back!

We arrived late when they were closing after travelling all day and they serve us food to takeaway anyways- an absolute lifesaver! The food was so incredible, one of the best food ever. The Thai base just perfect :)

Excellent Bowl, incredible freshness and taste.

I’ve been here a few times with my boyfriend and we truly love this place. I promise one day one of us will eat the 1kg bowl and be on the wall of fame 🤪 I love it that you can truly customise your bowl and choose the toppings you want. The broths are all so incredibly flavourful. I love it! The cocktails are also worth trying. The staff is super nice, friendly and helpful in case you need advice on what to order :)

Great little find tucked away. Choose from a buffet of fresh ingredients with a speciality of different types mushrooms and add your broth. Amazing and super friendly team who help you navigate.

I was misled by the Google Maps rating. Honestly, this was one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The soup broth was terrible, the vegetables were not cooked properly and there was no meat on the menu. The variety of ingredients was also very limited. Despite that, I still paid more than I would at other Malatang restaurants that actually offer meat and have much better options. To be honest, I don’t think you know how to cook this food properly. The dining experience was also uncomfortable. I had to squeeze into a table because the layout is strange and poorly arranged. Overall, it felt like a rip-off: overpriced, badly cooked and very disappointing.

American waitress with black hair was extremely rude. Me and my girlfriend wanted to go out for dinner, but ended up getting it for take away as we didn’t want to stay somewhere with such poor service. We made a ramen bowl and she said ‘That’s not how I would have done it’ in an obnoxious tone to her colleague so we could hear. Alongside this, her overall tone and demeanour was terrible and stand offish.

Ooo what a great place! There was a line when we arrived, but it was worth the wait. After a 30-minute wait, we were seated. Everything is very fresh and extremely tasty. Even though there is no meat, it didn't ruin the ramen. I just want to recommend not to load up too much, because at least in our company, our eyes were bigger than our hunger, so we loaded up from the shoulder. A very cozy place, I sincerely invite you to stop by.

Unbelievably good. I'm gluten free and vegetarian and glad someone else said it had a gluten free soup option they also do rice noodles. Definitely worth a visit!

The ramen was amazing ! Really recommend You can weight your bowl as you pick what you want, and there’s a good variety of things you can choose from. Be aware of quantities, it will get you full fast I had the coconut soup and it was really amazing

We spent three days in Amsterdam and ate here twice because it was so good. Great ramen that you can customize yourself. Really delicious!

Refreshing concept - you pick all the ingredients that go into your soup/ramen, from noodles to toppings and can choose between bases as well. Went here for the dinner, the service was very fast (visited near the opening time) and very friendly. It did seem a little bit pricey in the beginning, but by the time you receive your prepared portion - it'll be very well justified. Overall, not much to not like (well to be fair, music could be a bit quieter), food is delicious [provided you pick what you like], portions are as generous as you want them to be, everything is fast and vibe is cool.

Ramen is a pretty saturated scene in Amsterdam, so it's great to see somewhere trying something different. The passion and friendliness of the owner is lovely, and the tables are just close enough together to feel cosy but far apart enough to feel like you've got your own space. However, the food itself was a little underwhelming, with the balance of sweet/sour/salty a little off across the two dishes we chose. Fantastic choice for a veggie option but a little on the expensive side for the quality.

This is such a nice, unique place! With the vegetarian noodles, you can choose exactly what you want and make a delicious soup :)

We were on a business trip and we came back three times in one week! It's the best place in the area.

Went to MOGU to celebrate my birthday and loved the place. The concept of choosing what you want in your ramen is so cool and the food was fresh and delicious! Staff were very friendly even though the place was full. I plan to go back for sure 😊🍜 BUT I will get a smaller portion because I had to take what was left home from so much food I put in my bowl HAHA (photo with hand on the side for perspective of size 😜)

What a lovely restaurant: the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed, the owner is incredibly friendly, and the food was just so good! We were given the chance to sample the different broths beforehand, and there’s such a wide range of delicious ingredients to choose from. The only downside here is really being spoilt for choice. I’d highly recommend it; we‘re already looking forward to coming back here the next time we’re in Amsterdam.

This review is written by an asian meat eater for context. If you are vegan/Vegetarian or don't mind eating veggies and plant based protein like me and have a low tolerance of spices you are in the correct place. They only have vegan and vegetarian option but that's okay. even though Malatang places usually have a wide range of vegan or vegetarian option I can understand if it is for conscious vegan/vegetarian not an option since there is potential cross contamination with the meat and seafood. So it is nice for Mogu to only have vegan and vegetarian option. I mean there are tons of malatang places that offers meat so I don't understand why people are complaining that this place only have veggies, just go to other malatang places here in the city 🤷‍♀️ (It is my personal opinion as an asian) Taste wise, it's westernized. Don't expect the hotter version to have that Ma and La and don't expect the miso base to have that thick and umami taste of Miso. In my opinion both soup bases only have tiny hint of Chili and hint of Miso. But, maybe their target group is western customers that can't handle spices. Apart from that, I think they put a lot of effort for the soup to be also edible, which the normal Malatang places don't do since the concept of malatang is to only eat ingredients and usually not the soup especially the authentic spicy and oily Mala. But they do have sauce and topping station, so you can ofc spice up your soup if you want to I don't know about the tom yam soup though. For the owner: please use roasted sesame paste not raw sesame paste ;) raw sesame paste (raw tahini) have a bitter aftertaste and not very pleasant for this use case. Peanut butter is a very good condiment and compliment roasted sesame paste very well. Waitresses are super nice and super friendly, they explain the concept of the restaurant very well. The restaurant is cozy but a bit too packed. The tables are a bit too close to each other. Price wise, broth is additional 6€ and ingredients are 3,5€/100g.. I think its a bit too pricey. I know it's Amsterdam price but the Malatang concept just don't justify the price. Ofc there is a lot of effort put in the soup. But that it, a bowl of authentic vegetarian/vegan ramen with homemade noodles and soup base cost 17-18€ at a popular ramen place. Here I paid around 25€ for a bowl that have around same amount of food 🤷‍♀️ . So I think its a bit pricey.

Amazing experience. The broth is so good here it’s insane. All the ingredients are fresh and look delicious. Super friendly staff that guides you through the process. TIP: one pack of noodles is enough even if it doesn’t feel like it hahaha. GO EXPERIENCE THIS! Very well priced for the portion and overall quality.

Incredible food, super cosy atmosphere, and genuinely great service. Everything was spot on. Huge bonus points for the free water with big glasses and proper jugs such a small thing that makes it feel thoughtful. 10/10, no notes.

It is not authentic Chinese. There is no meat option. And pricing is at a 40gram interval range, rather than your actual grams * price per 100g. Moreover, soup base is charged separately of 6euro. Be aware.

Cozy place and I’m a fan of the Malatang concept. But unfortunately I was not a fan of the food here. The Sichuan broth didn’t taste like Sichuan - it was more like a sour soup, and was missing depth of flavour. Overall more expensive and less tasty than other Malatang restaurants in Amsterdam.

I am so disappointed. Specifically for two things: 1. The soup base is so bad…it’s definitely not Sichuan soup base, not at all, so please do not name it as Sichuan. It tastes so sour. 2. The pricing structure is so unfair with the range, like 400g-440g with a range, and 441-480g like another range. I mean it is fine to play this pricing structure but PLEASE DO tell people beforehand. For my case i didn’t know it so my food was probably just 441g, and it is way more expensive compared to my friend’s 440g let’s say. This is so unfair if nobody told this, if I knew I would either add more or drop a bit food. We had three friends coming together this afternoon, and all of us dislike the soup and pricing strategy here, we will never come back again. And definitely not recommend it to anyone.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the spicy mala tang Asians expect. Even though I asked for the spiciest level, it wasn't particularly spicy. Next time, I'd probably go to the Sichuan restaurant in Zeedijk.

I had dinner at this Amsterdam restaurant with its own mushroom cultivation facility. The owner gave me a personal tour, and seeing their passion and dedication firsthand was truly inspiring — a wonderful experience!

I love this place and I’m so pleased it’s so close to me. The concept is fabulous, it’s all vegetarian and the quality of the food is top notch. The staff are super friendly and capable and the atmosphere is lovely.

I was just on my way home when I saw this place across the street, it had a welcoming vibe and I was thinking what to eat. Cozy, small, nice music. It's my first time here, and I will definitely save as a favourite. I had the sechuan pepper, which was perfectly spiced and had a great flavour! The selection of drinks were limited, but nothing to be worried about. Staff was friendly and helpful. Recommended for sure!

Two thumbs way up! One of the best vegetarian soups/meals of my 69 years. The mushroom gyozas were fabulous! I had the Sichuan soup - it was exciting, vibrant an exciting melange of tastes! Just wonderful!

Fun concept and great food. The broths are super flavorfull, and there are many interesting ingredients. The people were also very welcoming. The biggest downsides are that it is quite pricy, and it was quite loud when we were there. But the food and staff were so good that we still give it a 5/5 :)

it's unexpected that it's a vegan restaurant. If you want some meat then that's not a good choice. I chose the Chinese Sichuan soup base, but tbh it's not so authentic. Anyway, I like the warm service and fresh food there.
