Umami by Han Amsterdam in Vondelbuurt

My husband is vegetarian and I love seafood. Needless to say it’s hard to find a restaurant where both of us would be fully satisfied. Umami by Han was the best place we could’ve chosen to celebrate our anniversary! We opted for three-course social dining menu for €39.50 per person. Each of us got 6 small plates of absolutely delicious dishes. Incredible quality for the price! We will be back for sure! PS We had to pay extra for the half lobster, but I still wanted to include the picture of it here because it was so yummy!

We went here for Amex dinning for 2 and everything is so good! It’s definitely worth to choose to come here. The waitresses are so nice to help you to order and serve. The food taste good and we are so full after it.

Nice restaurant...atmospheric. The food was tasty but it didn't blow me away. The Ramen Not Just For Chicks tasted bland and needed spice and lime. Fortunately, we got that upon inquiry. The spring rolls were just good and the dumplings too, but they could have had even more intense flavors. Otherwise, a fine restaurant!

Traveled to Amsterdam solo for work. I always enjoy trying new places near where I’m staying and this popped up when I searched Asian cuisine. I chose the seafood pre-fix menu and wow I was pleasantly surprised. For the first course I LOVED the beetroot salmon. Second course was equally delicious but I did drink the sauce from the scallop shell. Third and final Course I didn’t even get a picture but I would come back for the mussels and noodles alone. The service was great. Ola walked me through the menu selection and was very welcoming.

Beautiful place. We noticed it on our walk to our hotel. Nice decor, not too much, clean and unique touches. The food... Well I wish there was another star to give. It was not only tasty but also very well presented. If you go with their social dining experience you get to try almost everything. The service and attentiveness was much appreciated. Overall great place to have dinner if you get a chance. Ola our waitress and the bartender were both very attentive.

Basically tourist trap with a nice interiors. No locals were present. I had a ramen which was basically chicken and noodles in thick, fat coconut sauce (no ramen broth, instant noodles etc.), partner had the curry which was very mediocre. The staff was very nice, but I wouldn’t come back.

A very unique experience. The choice to accompany the customer in a tasting session structured around the idea of ​​sharing is extremely compelling to me and perfect for exploring UMAMI's menu. The vast selection, extremely knowledgeable staff, and, above all, HUMANITY made our evening extremely enjoyable. We sampled several seafood dishes (langostine, cod, sea bass, shrimp), all meticulously prepared and with truly interesting reductions. It's an intimate and informal place, pleasant and perfect for a dinner unlike any other. Quinn was truly sweet, kind, and professional: she helped make our anniversary wonderful. Thank you so much! This was a treat although the al carte did need to be explained to us for table sharing you basically put a line next to what you want and the bring it out per course. If you are with a group pick out more than one item per person for sure we picked out 2 each and I think we could have done more. 3 adults and one tired child and food disappeared quickly. No pictures this time but the plates were all very well done. Beer, wine and spirits are available.

All in all, it was unfortunately a disappointing experience. The food came out on top, but it wasn't surprising or distinctive either. Safe flavors that looked better on the menu than on the plate. We had the 4-course gastronomic menu twice with the accompanying wine pairing. The fact that we were given a tasting sheet—like with all-you-can-eat sushi—set the tone, making the rest of the evening resemble a fast-food restaurant the most. The service was polite, but more robot than human. Wines were served accompanied by a rehearsed story that was barely audible due to the very poor acoustics, and which lacked any conviction whatsoever. If you were to let the staff taste the wines blind, I am sure they would mix up the red and white. For the prices you pay, you should expect more genuine service, not a McDrive experience.

The food is Good This Service is avarage north European standard so so. The portions are small.

We stumbled upon it one evening, and it was a fantastic discovery. I had the beef ramen. The meat was incredibly tender; I thought that only happened in movies. It was so good that we came back the next day, and it was just as good.

First off, the food, it was excellent and really matched all of our tastes. We can in a group of three, me, my wife, and my son. To be quite frank the experience was awesome i would recommend this to anyone who want a nice fine dining experience. For our food we had many types of fish, chicken and lobster. Honestly most of these dishes were amazing, what I would suggest is that you to take the social dining experience as there are many choices you can choose from. The service was great and the waiter was kind and respectful, honestly great experience with the service. The waiter had many tasks but never failed to come back to us and help us with whatever we needed. Overall the restaurant was great I recommend you to come in groups and have this meal. This restaurant is about quality over quantity so you should be open to accept that. P.s - if you end up taking my advice you should order the dumplings as they were in my opinion the best dish I had.

The atmosphere is incredible and Ola provided us a with an unforgettable experience. The 6 dishes were each unique and offered a filling meal, with the Steamed Xiao Long Bao and Ginger Chicken standing out.

We were very pleasantly surprised; we had to eat early due to a theater visit, which was no problem at all. Delicious sake/blood orange/soda spritz, though it could have been colder. Then the surprises began; our allergy was also taken into fantastic consideration. We had a fantastic meal, and the Edd's white wine was excellent too. I think the photos will speak for themselves, and the price was more than reasonable. In short, highly recommended.

Got excited this place has Michelin bib gourmand. Not sure how that happened. The quality of each dish varied widly and mostly from one appetizer of 4 being delicious (the rest ok) but then quickly getting worse and worse with some tasting like frozen food that was warmed. I ordered sake and they gave me a wine glass for it. Asked for sake glasses and the waitress, who was kind but rarely to be found and never looked up, said they all broke and she couldn't remember when they last had sake glasses. A bit ridiculous. She also didn't seem to know anything about the menu. Again, she was very nice though. Overall very disappointing food. Also the bathroom handle was broken. Place is a bit of a mess.

I visited UMAMI with my entire family, and from the moment we walked in, the staff took excellent care of our comfort. Waitress Kamila deserves a special mention for looking after us throughout the evening. She was kind, attentive, and highly professional; she guided us through the selection of dishes and clearly explained the complexities of the menu. We ordered one set from the tasting menu, two "freestyle" choice sets, and two separate individual dishes. Despite such a complicated order, every course arrived in the perfect order and with flawless timing. I should also mention the professional approach of Maks, another waiter, who presented each dish with a smile and the utmost precision. Both Kamila and Maks are at the top of their game, representing UMAMI at the highest possible level. As for the food – it was phenomenal. The complex flavors, textures, presentation, and service style were, without exception, something worth experiencing.

I had high expectations because I have had meals delivered a few times via Sous that were good. But eating here was not a success. I found the food mediocre. The sauces made it somewhat tasty. The service was truly terrible. Nobody spoke Dutch. And I think we were the only natives there. The food arrived at lightning speed. But the dessert didn't come and we had to ask for it, and the bill turned out to be incorrect as well. So, all in all, sloppy.

My wife booked it for my birthday and they were super kind to bring us courtesy ice cream and take a Polaroid picture 💕 the food is amazing, every single course was mouthwatering and perfectly cooked, the wine pairings were awesome, and the waitresses were super knowledgeable and friendly. I went there thinking it was going to be an amazing experience. Unfortunately, I left the restaraunt very displeased. Having ordered one Gastronomique menu and also one custom social dining menu. I had the chance to heavily assess a lot of dishes on the menu. The first course was pretty disappointing. The tuna and eel had a very strange taste, and had me second guessing whether I was eating Tuna or a pork cold cut, The veal entrecôte had a color of pink and white which is very strange. Only the mango prawns were very nice. Second course with the dim sum and the dumplings were nice. Third course, the orange duck was decent, but the final course truly disappointed me. The teriyaki chicken had an awful texture, completely rubber. The meat had a really strange taste, and the curry prawns had a really unpleasant smell. I would heavily advise to have the dishes reassessed, especially the ingredients. The staff were super friendly, and I felt genuinely guilty not finishing my food. This is my first time in my life, leaving a review and leaving a bad one. But I love the concept and would love for the restaurant to take on my advice, because I still believe with some adjustments in the food. This could be an absolute gem in the city.

We had the most expensive menu; the 58 euro seafood menu. Portions were incredibly small for the price, we left still hungry. The taste wasn’t exceptional and did NOT make up for the small portions. The waitress tried to make us get expensive drinks too. Felt scammed at the end. We basically spent 60 each for mid food and left hungry. I want my money back.
