We enjoyed the Seafood Menu at Umami yesterday. It was a three-course meal with two dishes in each course—beautifully presented and prepared with great care. First course: The oysters looked magnificent, though they're not my absolute favorite. The smoked wild salmon, on the other hand, was fantastic: a beautiful red color, probably pickled in beetroot juice, with a delicious soy sauce and mustard dressing. Second course: The braised scallops were delicious, with a spicy soy sauce so good we spooned the shells out. 😄 The sablefish with chili pepper and soy sauce was the absolute highlight of the evening—perfectly prepared and with the most delicious sauce I've ever tasted. Third course: The half lobster with shrimp in spicy tomato sauce was juicy and flavorful, though I found the sauce a bit overpowering. The prawns with sweet chili dressing, chili powder, and mango gel were a surprising combination; I would have preferred them served warm, so the flavor would have come out even better. By the end of the meal, we were quite full, so dessert wasn't an option. We'll definitely be back—for the delicious food and the incredibly friendly service.

Tonight was honestly one of the best dining experiences I’ve had here in Amsterdam! The food at Umami was absolutely delicious — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was top-notch too! Our server, Denisz, was super friendly, attentive, and really made us feel welcome. You can tell he enjoys what he does! I went here with my friend, and we both left happy and satisfied. If you’re ever in Amsterdam and looking for a restaurant that serves delicious food, has excellent service, and gives you an overall unforgettable experience, Umami is definitely the place to go! 😇

Came here on our last night of being in Amsterdam for a high class dinner and that’s exactly what was delivered. The food was amazing! We loved the concept and a great way to experience fine dining. Nice atmosphere, felt intimate even though the place is big. All the staff were very friendly and happy to explain the menu.

Surprisingly mediocre. I had high expectations, but the flavors weren't as gourmet as the menu suggested. The first course was delicious and promising, but the rest was disappointing. The vegetarian option was far too salty. The service was very friendly.

The food was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the terrace was lovely. I ordered food online afterward, and it was delicious as well. Highly recommended. I had another delicious meal there, and I sat outside on what I believe is a new terrace, which was very pleasant.

Seating way too crowded, was basically on top of the next table. Food was pretty good but not amazing. We had the 5 course menu (including dessert for around 60€) Clear problem was the waiting time: 15 mins to get the menus and 20 minutes between courses. A 4 course meal took 2 hours to be served throughout, really really slow.

Umami by Han on Overtoom promises a sophisticated take on modern Asian fusion, blending traditional dim sum and inventive sharing dishes in a sleek, contemporary setting. Unfortunately, while the kitchen shows promise, the overall experience leaves much to be desired. The food, to its credit, tastes good. Flavors are balanced, and the kitchen clearly understands seasoning and texture at least, what the texture should have been. My crispy pork arrived only lukewarm, its once-crunchy exterior now softened and soggy. The dim sum, particularly the ha kau, suffered a similar fate delicate in taste but tepid to the touch. One can’t help but assume that the dishes had been left standing too long before service, which is a shame considering the culinary potential. What truly undermined the evening, however, was the service. We waited a full ten minutes at the entrance before anyone acknowledged our presence. Once seated, things didn’t improve: ordering drinks became an exercise in patience, and our pre-dinner cocktails meant to set the tone took nearly twenty-five minutes to arrive. Ironically, the only thing that came swiftly was the bill. Seated at the back of the restaurant, the atmosphere proved more bustling than buzzy. The space was overcrowded, and the noise level made conversation a strain. Any sense of refinement that the menu aspires to is quickly lost amid the din. In the end, Umami by Han delivers food with promise but fails where it matters most in execution and hospitality. Warm flavors can’t compensate for lukewarm dishes and cold service. A restaurant experience, after all, is about more than taste it’s about care, timing, and the feeling that guests are welcome. On this visit, sadly, that ingredient was missing.

I cannot recommend this place. Food okay, service okay. We ordered a 3 course menu and asked for a replacement of the desert as I did not like the one choice they displayed. We were given 3 choices as alternatives (no mentioning of any additional charges) and suddenly at the end when we received the bill, they charged us for one additional dessert. And no we did not get the initial desert as well, they simply charged us twice but only gave us one desert. The evening would have been fine but this is not a good service and should either be complementary or should have been cleary communicated at the point of exchanging by the staff.

Our visit to Umani in Amsterdam was unfortunately disappointing. It felt like we were invisible to the staff; the wait between courses was extremely long (approximately 45 minutes). The tea arrangement wasn't coordinated with the serving of the dishes, meaning the tea was often cold or finished before the food arrived. The dishes were hastily brought to the table, and within seconds, with some unintelligible mumbling, they tried to explain what was being served. This is particularly inconvenient when there are specific dietary requirements and you have to figure it out yourself. Although the staff works hard, this doesn't translate to effective or hospitable service. The food was okay, but didn't give the impression of being freshly prepared. From our seat overlooking the kitchen, it looked more like pre-made dishes that are heated up and then topped with fresh toppings.

Very interesting food combination that I never expected

I visited this restaurant with my partner to make use of our annual Amex “Dinner for Two” offer. The menu looked promising, and the dishes were beautifully presented—elegant and reminiscent of fine dining. Unfortunately, the flavors didn’t live up to the presentation. The food was rather plain and uninspired, lacking the depth or creativity one would expect at this level. Overall, it was an average dining experience that didn’t quite justify the fine-dining impression. The matcha ice cream dessert was ok.

This is the best Asian restaurant that I have ever tried in Amsterdam. I ordered a 3-dish set. Every dish is perfectly cooked and plated. Coming from Hong Kong and this reminds me of the goodness of fusion asian taste. Love how I can mix and match and everything is in a smaller portion so even I am coming alone, I can still have all my comfort food in place. The place is well decorated and location is convenient. Last but not least, very friendly and helpful staff!

Came using american experience app, so there was already a menu pre-set with starter, main course and dessert. For sure I'll come back more often by my own.

Had a fantastic dinner here with a large group of friends. From the start, the staff was really friendly and accommodating. We were a large group and the great thing was that all of us could order anything we wanted. Some got the Gastronomique menu, Social dinning menu, Social dinning à la cart, Street food items and the Thursday Lobster special. The service was fantastic, yes it was slow, however since not everyone stuck to the same menu and some didn't get a set menu it was expected. The staff made sure that everyone was able to eat together in courses (with a little wait at times). I applaud them for that since logistically it wasn't very easy. The food was great. There are many options from seafood, to meat to vegetarian. So you will definitely be able to find something for everyone. Also, the social dinning dishes are a good size, especially considering the number of dishes you can order. I did find some things tastier than others but overall the food was delicious! To begin with as a 1st course the Vinai Beef was fantastic. It was a cold started but the beef was tended and it was one of my favorite dishes. The Umami Duck was also great, it was a little spicy which caught me by surprise but it was a great start to my meal. Then, Steamed Xiao Long Bao came hot, perfectly cooked and juicy. I did wish that the filling was a bit more flavorful but nonetheless it was tasty. Steamed Iberico Pork Neck was tended and was a nice light dish. The 3rd course came with a bowl of rice as well. The Eggplant Beef was another favorite of mine. Saucy, perfectly cooked, flavorful and was fantastic with the rice. The Spicy Teriyaki Chicken was also nice but not actually spicy. The duck I had as a started was way more. It was nice but it was really overshadowed by the beef since compared to it, it was a bit on the dryer end. I can also say that the Lemon Fish was highly praised and the Whole Lobster was perfection. As a dessert the Coconut Lychee was very interesting. It included the popping candy which you could hear and feel when eating. It was unexpected but pleasant. The taste was ok, nothing special. Cocktail wise, I tried the Pornstar Martini and it was a fantastic drink. It was perfectly balanced and served with a shot of cava on the side as it is meant to. Overall a great restaurant, but it is better with less people or making sure everyone is ok with ordering a set menu. Then you probably wouldn't need to wait long between courses.

I had a birthday dinner booked for my partner and everything was perfect. Even better than expected! I made the reservation with an added special request to surprise my partner. It was executed brilliantly and exceeded my expectations (the plan was to serve it alongside the dessert but we didn’t order dessert because we were full, however the staff still made it happen which I was massively grateful for). The variety of food and amount of portions was perfect as we got to try so many different dishes, which we normally wouldn’t have. This style of restaurant is definitely appealing if you like to try new things. Kosma (our waiter) was amazing. He made sure we had everything we needed, provided us with great service and made sure everything was perfect for our special night. It was a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend the restaurant!

One of my favourites in Amsterdam! The food is always on point and the menu is quite diverse. I've been here now four times and tend to opt for the set menus which leave me ready to rolled out.

By far our favorite restaurant in Amsterdam, possibly anywhere. The staff is really friendly, considerate, professional and helpful. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great, very nicely decorated and welcoming. The main star, however, is the food. I can wholeheartedly recommend the social dining menu, with which you get a lot of different dishes in 3 or 4 courses, that are all easy to share. I just can not overstate how good the food is and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Amazing.

We booked for a going away work dinner of 15 people. The restaurant was quick to confirm and didn’t require a large deposit. We did the social dining menu which was 39€ a person and a fantastic deal for the quality of food! Quyen (I hope I spelled it correctly) was fantastic taking care of our 2 tables.

Amazing place. 5 of us, ordered the set dinner of 5 courses. Every meal was incredible but otherwise did take 4 hours in total with a little bit of a wait on service between courses. The meals made up for it though and I'd do it all again.

Umami offers a cozy and relaxed atmosphere perfect for a laid-back Sunday dinner. We enjoyed a delightful three-course meal. The starter, seabass ceviche, was a refreshing and lightly seasoned dish with subtle avocado cream, not overpowering. This was paired with a tender veal entrecôte, the meat was tender and savory. We had juicy, tender steamed langoustine for the second course with a mild citrus and spiced sauce. The pairing of artichoke and crispy mushrooms on a bed of peanut sauce was a unique and satisfying combination. The final course featured a standout cod fish that melted in your mouth. The Iberico pork loin was also quite good—it was tender, though a little on the dry side. The service was friendly, though a bit slow due to the whole restaurant being full. There were a couple of minor mix-ups with the servings, but these were easily forgiven. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience.

Great food, terrible concept. Small plates and you wait around for food to turn up. We spent 2 hrs for a few small plates each. We had to constantly check to see if they remembered our order because the wait between small notes was like 30 minutes.
