Took centuries to get our order and everything was extremely overpriced! Service was ok and the atmosphere was pretty nice .

We spent a mid-week stay in Maastricht and it was nice and relaxing. We regularly sat on the terrace at Brasserie Monopole, the staff were nice and attentive and the host was nice and friendly.

Had a drink at Monopole last night. Very good service and very friendly service.

We were there during the Christmas market. It was so atmospheric. The service was great, and the food was really good. We had rabbit and sauerkraut, and the beers were delicious.

When we sat down, someone remarked: "These are tables for eating only, not just drinks." This had already been pointed out by two staff members, and I politely replied several times that we wanted something to eat. I didn't feel welcome, but we stayed and ate anyway. At the beginning of our meal, when we sat down, we were offered a drink, but it was gone before we even received our food. (I also had to ask if we could order our food because it took a long time for anyone to come and take our order.) For the rest of the evening, we weren't asked if we wanted another drink. However, while we were in the middle of a conversation, someone else's drink order was placed on the table, to which I replied that I didn't order it (it happens). Then, when we had finished our food, the table was cleared, and even then, we weren't asked if everything was to our liking or if we wanted dessert or a drink. We waited a while to see if we could speak to another staff member or if they would come to our table. We'd been sitting at this table for a while without drinks or food, but after waiting 15 minutes, I decided I'd rather pay instead of ordering dessert and waiting even longer. I finally spoke to someone again and got the response, "Please wait, we're on our way." That was perfectly fine, but only after waiting another 10 minutes did another staff member arrive. "What do you want?" I responded by saying I'd like to pay. This response wasn't entirely appropriate for a restaurant. The food was delicious, but the service was terrible, and I found the bill quite hefty. Of course, you know the price before you order, but when you have to pay €72.50 for 3 appetizers, a portion of fries, and 2 drinks, I think I should expect a smile rather than constantly having to chase after everything.

They were anything but friendly, just rushing, rushing, rushing. We had to wait almost fifteen minutes before being helped, so we flagged someone down. Then the coffee was almost gone, and only then did the waffles we ordered arrive. Then they were insistently asked five times if we wanted more, even though we'd already asked for the bill twice. Next time, we'll just walk away. Everything was way too expensive.

During the Christmas market, the three of us popped into the brasserie for coffee and something to eat. We had two cappuccinos, one hot chocolate, and three apple strudels. The cappuccino was lukewarm, and I'd have preferred it. I fell off my chair while paying... I had to pay a total of €45.00. Unfortunately, there are no prices listed anywhere, so I'm afraid they can charge whatever they want. We won't be back anytime soon.

SCAMMERS! DO NOT GO THERE. For 4 coffees and 2 sweets we paid 55 euros. They scammed us while sweetly talking to us.

We didn't eat there. But we enjoyed sitting on the terrace and having a drink. Very friendly staff.

Beautiful view of the Vrijthof square and comfortable seating. Friendly staff who give you a warm welcome. Cozy, beautifully decorated terrace and a wide selection on the menu. Even now that winter is slowly setting in, it's a pleasant place to be. It's definitely worth 5 stars!

The food was expensive for what you get, but it was okay. Nice location, of course. Strange situation: you could only pay in cash...with unclear, confusing explanations...no other payment option, so everyone had to use their debit card. Long wait times, and I saw several tables leave. Not really worth going back.

We came for a drink, and we were treated to a sociological experiment in passive-aggressive service. The bearded waiter (yes, that one) exudes a kind of subtle hostility, as if you've personally offended him simply by existing. He ignores, selects, and smiles only at those who apparently deserve his approval. It's not once. It's not twice. It's three times. I'd rather drink elsewhere, where the glass is filled with something other than contempt.

While we were looking for a place to have dinner (5 people on a Wednesday evening after a day of shopping), a waiter cordially invited us to take a table in his establishment 😉. We didn't regret it: it was very good, we were well served and the atmosphere was very warm.

The food was delicious. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to find enough Dutch-speaking staff these days. That doesn't detract from the overall service atmosphere.

I'm never coming back. Last night, my girlfriend and I went here for dinner. We were given a baguette as a starter and ordered a salad and mussels and fries. After the baguette, over an hour passed. Then I asked the waiter if our main course was being prepared yet. The waiter told me they were waiting until the starter (the baguette) was finished, and that the guests had time to finish it first. A ridiculous answer, considering we'd been without drinks for quite some time and had never been asked if we'd finished eating. Then it took over 45 minutes for the main course to arrive. The salad had clearly been under a heat lamp and was damp. The mussels were okay. We were never asked again if we wanted a drink. No free drink was offered. When I tried to raise the issue, the waiter interrupted me because he was being yelled at from inside. A real disgrace.

Smooth service in a great location. The kitchen doesn't perform miracles.

The food is good, with a delicious schnitzel and fries. The service is very good, and they speak many languages. We thought the beers were very expensive at €6.75. There were five of us, and the main course, drinks, two desserts, and coffees cost €250.

Nice service. Prices are high (tourist prices). The food took quite a while, but it was good! Being a tourist hotspot, it's quite hectic and noisy outside under the umbrellas.

I had a truly excellent onion soup, and my husband had an apple strudel. Both were delicious. The limoncello spritz was good and reasonably priced, but overall, the value for money is obviously commensurate with the good location.

Bad experience: the first glass of prosecco was still empty. The replacement glass was dirty with lipstick. The mussels were full of sand. After complaining about this, no action was taken. At checkout, I complained again, but there was no response. Very poor service.

A very enthusiastic young man who politely welcomes you in Dutch and chats about the Vrijthof square and the Rieu concerts. That makes you feel welcome. Unfortunately, this quickly fades when his colleagues take over, and even ordering a beer becomes difficult because they don't understand Dutch.

Beautiful cafe with a fantastic environment and view

We popped in for lunch. And we certainly got the picture. A quick drink, a quick bite, and then we were out of here. No standard mayonnaise with the fries, and it was incredibly expensive. We also ordered a Coke, but it was more like an ice cube than a Coke. Not recommended.

Went for lunch this afternoon. After the Meuse cruise, I felt like something sweet, so I chose the Liège waffle with whipped cream. My husband opted for a ham and cheese toastie. Very well seasoned and beautifully presented. The waffle was delicious, and the coffee was good too. The service was friendly and helpful. No long waits. Simply excellent. Highly recommended.

Great food! The pesto pasta with chicken was disappointing. The fries with sour meat and the beef croquettes, however, were delicious! The fries were a bit dry and limp.

Had a delicious club sandwich. A generous portion, so definitely worth the money.

Very poor food. One star is still too much. The ground meat sandwich had so much dressing on it that you couldn't taste the artificial meat. The pastry was completely tasteless and cold. They didn't even ask if we enjoyed the leftovers. That speaks volumes! Even though it was expensive, you'd be better off going somewhere else. It's outrageous that none of the staff spoke Dutch, even though we were actually in Maastricht.

Slechte service en slecht eten. Op het tafeltje lag een tafelkleedje met vetvlekken en een gat erin; deze werd op ons verzoek vervangen door een schoon kleedje. We moesten erg lang wachten op 2 biertjes die we besteld hadden ondanks herhaalde verzoeken van ons . Andere gasten die later waren gekomen hadden hun drankjes al. Toen de gerechten gebracht werden vroegen we nogmaals om onze biertjes welke toen terstond getapt werden. Mijn tafelgenote had een kippenpasteitje met frites besteld. Zij ontving een bord met een ondefinieerbare massa erop en frites op hetzelfde bord, helemaal vol gedumpt. De kippenragout of wat daarvoor doorging was een vaste massa met daaronder een dikke bonk dat ws het pasteibakje was. Toen ons gevraagd werd of het smaakte zei mijn disgenoten dat dit niet het geval was, de ober excuseerde zich en bood een ander gerecht aan, maar de trek was weg. Ikzelf had een schnitzel waarop niets aan te merken viel.

Brasserie dans laquelle nous avons toujours pris l'habitude d'aller manger un morceau le jeudi en fin de journée.Nous avons toujours été extrêmement bien reçus et avons toujours très bien mangé au Monopole mais en lisant les nombreux avis négatif publiés ces derniers temps, je dois avouer que nous y sommes un peu retourné à reculons...Pour notre part tout était parfait...bon accueil et service bilingue avec le sourire...casserole de moules et soles meunière avec deux portions de frites et non une seule comme signalé dans beaucoup d'avis...avons attendu un peu mais c est normal et je préfère quand la qualité est dans nos assiettes...Alors oui les prix sont plus élevés et vous payez un peu l'emplacement mais tout est annoncé sur la carte en Français à la demande...Après ne soyons pas dupes, il n'y a pas de fumée sans feu et les nombreux avis négatif publiés à l'instant T étaient certainement largement justifié mais dans ce cas bravo à l'équipe de management qui a probablement eu l'intelligence d'en tenir compte et de rapidement corriger le tir...

We went on July 18, 2025, with an André Rieu package. We have nothing but praise for what a perfectly organized evening we had, down to the last detail! The food was delicious, despite the crowds, it ran wonderfully, the staff were so friendly and kind, the tables were beautifully set—in short, definitely worth repeating! Thank you, Monopole, thanks in part to you, we had a fantastic evening ❤️

We came here for lunch; I've been coming here for over 25 years! Simply because I know it's simple and good, but my last time was disappointing. There's someone walking around trying to lure people onto the terrace, but once you're seated, you have to wait a long time for service. Luckily, the young man who helped us was great and spoke Dutch. I'll definitely be back, but I hope you guys do something about the staff.

Great atmosphere. Honest food! We were in a perfect, beautiful spot! The service and hospitality were 100%. Randy made sure we had a fantastic and enjoyable evening!

Best restaurant and fantastic atmosphere (in white) during the André Rieux concerts, top service from wonderful staff. Compliments to the Monopole team.

We were hastily ushered to our table, as the terrace was packed. We were given a drink, but that was it, as we were never asked again if we wanted another drink. Despite the staff's haste, we were perfectly fine. Until my "Italian roll" with filet Americana arrived. As you can see in the photo, the filet had already turned a strange color. I hesitated to take a bite, but I did. I shouldn't have! It was INEDIBLE. I left my entire sandwich and told them I didn't like it. However, nothing was done about it, and we were still charged full price. The restaurant with the two yellow arches diagonally across from me is a better option ;) Highly recommended!

On Thursday 3 July, during the unforgettable André Rieu concert, we enjoyed an amazing evening at Brasserie Monopole in Maastricht. What a great experience! From the moment we arrived, we were immediately immersed in a warm, cozy atmosphere. The location is perfect, right on the Vrijthof, and exudes the unique atmosphere of Maastricht — especially during such a special event. The service was truly excellent. Friendly, smooth, professional and with an eye for detail. Despite the crowds, they took all the time for us and made sure we lacked nothing. The staff deserves a big compliment — or better said: a big hat! Everything was perfect that evening: the food, the service, the ambiance… the whole picture was perfectly arranged in one word. Brasserie Monopole made this evening even more special. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to experience Maastricht at its best!

Het terras arrangement tijdens concert Rieu was bij dit restaurant geweldig. Goede service, vriendelijke en goede bediening, lekker en uitstekend drie-gangen diner. Indien vooraf aangegeven ook vega gerechten beschikbaar. Het uitserveren van de drie gangen en drankjes verliep professioneel en snel. De communicatie tijdens het bestellen/reserveren van de tickets was duidelijk en goed. De sfeer tijdens het concert was prima en dat kwam mede ook door de bediening. Complimenten!

We had a nice cup of (ice) coffee with some treats. The service was very personal, friendly and helpful. They really wanted to go the extra mile to make you feel at home.

The service was attentive; he gave us the German menu. He was also friendly and quick. We enjoyed the food. We sat on the terrace, but the red light was a bit distracting.

The service was very quick and friendly. The food was excellent. The only downside is the somewhat high prices, but that's normal for a location like this, and yes, restaurants in the Netherlands are generally more expensive.

The food, asparagus soup and a farmer's omelette, was delicious. The service was disappointing; the employees were joking around while we were trying to place drinks. My husband had to walk to the bar himself twice. Too bad, because we always enjoyed lunching and dining there during our stays in Maastricht. Next time we will go to another brasserie or restaurant; there are enough of them. Too bad!

How awful, I will never ever come here again. We sat down for a drink and at one point a sign appears on the table stating that you are only allowed to eat and that you are not only allowed to have a drink. But because you (according to them) stay seated too long, they coughed in my husband's face twice! You could see that this was done on purpose because every time the waiter (that's not his name!!) walked by, this happened to my husband. If people are now pushing to be able to eat there... but the opposite is true. People walk past this restaurant at full speed. They are there hawking to get people in to come and eat with them! Very pushy!! No, if you go to Maastricht, don't go there in any case. Waste of money and irritation!

Ordered a bouncer today for which you paid 16 euros. For 2 slices of bread you get 1 slice of cheese and 1 slice of ham on top. If you then ask for extra ham and cheese you have to pay 7 euros extra. I'll never come back

The food is generally okay, especially the onion soup is delicious. Unfortunately, the service seems a bit overwhelmed and inattentive. What was cheeky, however, was that people asked if they wanted bread with the soup and were charged an extra dish worth over €10.

Eating Maastricht sour meat was delicious.

A restaurant in a tourist area. The staff is friendly, but the prices are a little high. I had a hamburger, but neither the bun nor the patty (meat) were tasty. Payment by individual person is only accepted in cash, and if paying by card, payment for everyone can only be made at once. I think there are better restaurants in Maastricht.

We felt like an easier evening, living around the corner so we tried this. Well schnitzel not really fresh also the mushroom sauce terribly salty not fresh. Fries with it a mini container for 2 people while the lady next to us got this for herself? And if you want more you have to pay extra. It was also expensive while at the neighbors it was now 14.95 for schnitzel. We hoped that because it was twice as expensive here these would be fresh pppfff what a disappointment. Oh they had nothing to do but forgot to ask if we wanted a 2nd drink,...

Top we were like 20 and able to eat all together! The portions are huuuuge and the food is great. Prices are fair considering the size of the dishes for this expensive city.

€8.50 for an ameretto with just ice cream! Pushy staff who are disappointed that we only paid 36 EURO for a coffee and drink. Antisocially high. The terrace is nicely heated. But unfortunately no passion or emotion for hosting, with these amounts.

Helaas bij aankomst niet gereed en ze moesten nog Vandans organiseren zodat we konden zitten buiten Ja was nog 5 m8nuten voorde tijd maar advies zat nog steeds vol Om maar geen discussie aan te gaan zijn we binnen gaan zitten. We hebben zelf de bediening moeten roepen na een hele tijd. Het eten was bedroevend. Kroketten lauw. Salade maar even wat binnen raadsel met de fles frites saus er over heen Op de vraag achteraf of het gesmaakt had aangegeven dat het lauw was een Verder niets lekker te noemen. Dit was nu en nooit weer. Voor dat geld kun je op andere plekken veel beter eten.

Had lunch here with my girlfriend. That's the only reason to sit there. Later we came back for coffee and cake, but that was not the intention. You are expected to come for lunch, otherwise you are not actually welcome. We also noticed this in the service and atmosphere.

Eerst en vooral een heel onvriendelijk man die de tafel toewees. We bestelden beiden een kippenpasteitje met frieten, eentje zonder mayonaise en eentje met. Groot was de teleurstelling. Gewoon op het bord gekiept!! Een berg kippenpastei met redelijk droge kip die al niet overal even warm had. Daaronder een koekje welk ik zelfs niet opgemerkt had als mijn man het zijne niet gevonden had. Daarboven ook nog eens wakke frieten toen we bij het afruimen hierover een opmerking maakte werd dit niet echt geapprecieerd. Volle pot moeten betalen inclusief tweemaal mayonaise . Nooit meer
