I have been coming to Cafe Heuvel every week for a long time and, contrary to the reviews below, I have never had an unpleasant or unpleasant experience. All the employees are great and I always have a pleasant evening here. A cozy atmosphere and good service!

Arrogant, unfriendly and above all incompetent!!! After waiting for more than 20 minutes, you weren't served, even though the café wasn't overly busy. One can do it, the other can't. These two guys definitely don't know how to do gastronomy!!!!

Bald man behind the bar insists on tipping while his service is poor and rude. As he walked away, he said to us: “Fuck off”. So 1 star for that bald egg head behind the bar.

there were 2 of them, the bald bartender made all kinds of comments about how short our skirts supposedly were and wanted to smoke a cigarette with us outside in an alley, very threatening atmosphere, we had to walk away with someone else because otherwise we thought we would not get away safely

All reviews about rudeness, people being pushed away by staff, too direct and the like. I can certainly deny it. There are always two sides to the story and they are not presented here. As long as you can just say thank you, please, and goodbye (as you should) then you've come a long way. In short, a wonderful tent, with a great atmosphere! Went there for drinks last night with my friends, a girl was hyperventilating on the floor and the servers were not helpful and tried to kick her out, I’m definitely not going back, to a place that treats the patrons this way

I had a shocking experience at this bar. A waiter forcefully pushed me out of his way without warning. When I calmly questioned him, he dismissed me, saying he works there, as if that justified his behavior. When I asserted that it wasn’t okay, he became hostile and started mocking me, even as I became visibly distressed and began to cry. Feeling overwhelmed and unsafe, I reacted, and instead of de-escalating the situation, the staff sided with him and treated me with zero empathy, despite the fact that I was on the floor, hyperventilating. The complete lack of professionalism and compassion from the staff was deeply upsetting. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a safe, respectful environment.

I have been to this place a few times for a casual drink as I live around the corner. After today’s experience will not come back. I suggested this place to my friends and we went for a drink in the terrace in December. When we arrived 2 out of 3 friends ordered and one of them decided he did not want to order anything at the moment. The waiter very quickly replied “oh you are enjoying the warmth of the heater right? Then you are going to order something!” Acting like it was rush hour and we were occupying a table and not consuming. Important to highlight that the terrace was half empty, so for sure we were not keeping them from making money. This is the type of bullying attitude I will not tolerate, and having worked in hospitality, the waiter has a huge lack of customer service and respect. I’m not the type of person to make a scene, so I have ordered 2 Tonics for myself to “cover” my friend, we had our drink and left. so Really hope those couple of euros helped reach your target and pay the electricity bill for the heaters of your empty terrace.🌈

El servicio más horrible en Amsterdam. Mis amigos y yo estábamos teniendo un día maravilloso, disfrutando del sol y el ambiente encantador de la ciudad, solo para que se arruine completamente por el barman grosero, verbalmente abusivo, horrible (¿quizás incluso propietario?). Quédate muy, muy lejos de este lugar. La peor experiencia que he tenido desde que me mudé a los Países Bajos.

Gran lugar para sentarse fuera y ver el mundo pasar mientras toma un par de pintas a la hora del almuerzo. El bar está en una encrucijada muy pequeña donde las bicicletas mandan. Muy entretenido ver a los lugareños virando para evitar que los turistas deambulen por el carril bici. La cerveza es buena, los servidores todo amigable, si ves una mesa agarrala como las barras si se pone muy ocupada

El barman más oxidado, pero un café / bar muy pintoresco. Actuó como misógino en mi contra (soy una mujer para el contexto). Llevaba una camisa blanca. Pedí un 2 Heinekens, uno para mi mamá y yo (en Irlanda que normalmente significaría una pinta). Empezó a servir un vaso pequeño, luego dije “Lo siento, quería decir 2 pintas” y luego dijo “Nunca dijiste pintas”. Mirando hacia atrás, tal vez debería haberlo hecho. Le dije que en Irlanda nunca tenemos que decirlo en Irlanda (para que supiera por qué ya que la cultura es diferente). Luego dijo groseramente “Bueno no estás en Irlanda estás en Holanda” (gracias por escenificar lo obvio por cierto : ) ) ni siquiera fue lo que dijo sino la forma en que me miró y sonrió. Me pareció extraño... de alguna manera me quedé sintiéndome avergonzado frente al bar y pensé que él se lo habría dicho a mi hermano y a mi papá... creo que no. Volveremos a los Países Bajos, pero no aquí nunca más.

To be avoided at all costs...to summarize, we were almost insulted by the waiter because my three-year-old son stayed in the toilet for more than 3 minutes and he told us that we were scaring away the customers (so if we scares customers away, so much the better they will thank us). Basically, I had ordered a zero coke, while my husband was in the toilet with our son, when he came back, he told me that the woman inside the cafe is angry because my son was in the toilet (a real sketch) so I tell the waiter that I'm paying zero for my coke and we leave and then he gets angry saying that we didn't order enough that there are three of us etc and that we had taken advantage of the toilets hahaha. A real crazy person! In short, really the kind of place to avoid...read the other comments, I'm not the only one...it's quite hilarious!

We wanted to have a drink outside on the terrace. Many tables are empty, but there is a dirty ashtray on every table, which I personally don't like for my nose when I drink coffee. I put the dirty ashtray on another table, the waiter comes and just puts it back... Maybe there are other people who want to smoke was his answer. Not at a table where we sit? Weird and rude action. Coffee wasn't special either, just ready-made from the machine, not hot either.

Für uns die beste Kneipe in der Stadt! Gut gezapftes Bier, freundliche Bedienung mit Humor. Jeden Abend sind wir zum Abschlussbier gekommen mit der Hoffnung, einen freien Platz zu ergattern. Nicht immer einfach, das Lokal ist sehr beliebt. Wir kommen wieder !!!

The worst experience ever. Overcharged by 9 beers, once we wanted to correct it, they were yelling at us, we were being pushed, threatened and got comments ‘learn dutch’, ‘leave the country’. Owner and waiters are extremely rude and unpleasant. Stay away from this place by all costs. There is a lovely bar ‘Cafe Hans en Gretje’ just a minute away with lovely staff and great views.

Would give 0/5 star if we could. We went in to share a drink as it was pouring outside and the cafe was quite empty. We were asked what else we wanted because we just ordered 1 drink out of 2 people, to share , and the TALL BALD (so bald) waiter said we couldn’t do that - “consumption is necessary per person”. We left as this is not the service anyone should receive. Being two young girls in Amsterdam we found this experience unsettling unprofessional and down right inappropriate as this is not the case for the service we received elsewhere. I have severe allergies and cannot tolerate a lot of the things served in places and this experience was truly shocking. P.S if you need hair transplant options I’m happy to recommend someone - being rude isn’t a good look either.

Terrible experience!! My wife and I sat on a table outside because we wanted to drink a coffee but since my children weren't having anything they rudely asked us to leave. "There are 4 of you or order everyone else away!" Absolutely disgraceful service! Absolutely avoid! I think it's a habit for them given the previous comments!

Super cozy old-fashioned café with fantastic staff with a great sense of Amsterdam humor. Alone or with friends, this café is always worth a visit. Small terrace with one of the best views in Amsterdam, great for people watching all day or chatting with the other guests.

"we are not a workstation" I was told after seating there for 20 minutes and ordering. I understand this is not the place to work all day. I was literally waiting for my friend. And the place was not busy.

Sitting down for a drink with a guest from abroad. My guest ordered coffee. I also wanted a coffee, but that wasn't possible because I wanted a vegan coffee, and they didn't have oat milk there. It can happen, so normally I think about what to take. But you don't even get the opportunity because you are immediately informed that as soon as there are more people, your seat will be taken. What a rude person. I ordered another drink because I wanted something to drink and instead of staying there, I quickly left. Without the usual tip, because it is of course out of place here. Some people like to think about it for a while if their first option is not in a catering tent.

I went to the toilet and after some waiting the lady's one got empty, went inside as it was an individual one, after some seconds a tall bald guy went inside and he grabbed me by the arm with force and he pulled me down the stairs. I told him what he was doing, he said something like this is the ladies toilet, I told him this was not ok, then he left and called me cancer in Dutch.

We had a very bad experience with discrimination in this cafe which kicked us out of its terrace because we do not consume alcohol Plus I was pregnant it was 5 p.m. it was last August I wanted a cappuccino we sat down my sister my husband and I the waiter comes to see us we give him our order he looks at us and he starts to sneer with a haughty air saying you're serious you want a cappuccino but it's aperitif time!!! I reply that I don't drink alcohol, he stares at me and tells me if you want a cappuccino, go look elsewhere, he left us in a lurch and left, muttering hhhhhh they want a cappuccino!!!! We just jumped in for a coffee before visiting Rijk Museum. The place has a really good atmosphere with all those decorations. The owner ( we met the woman) was kind with us. We were talking about a lots of things, including some tourists' behavior, which we have seen on the spot. A group arrived, they didn't even say hello to the owner, they didn't order, just went to the toilet. Unbelievable. We were sitting at the window, wondering the view on the bridge and the canal.

For a pub golf we wanted to get 6 special drinks, staff were very rude

Worst service I’ve ever witnessed. The tall/bald waiter was extremely unfriendly towards anybody who’s not Dutch. Tourists are not welcome there, the waiter badmouthed/joked about us with other Dutch people. Would not go there again and would not recommend for any tourists to go there.

Great location on the canal So it’s a shame the staff are not welcoming and friendly as this spot has great potential. Staff can make or break an experience.

I read a review of Fleur Roos Rosa de carvalho which is completely unjustified. This lady occupied the table for half an hour, not 8 minutes, and ordered nothing. It was super busy so the staff was absolutely right to ask if they wanted to order something. Unbelievable that such people think they are the king and with such rude behavior they portray this great company in such a negative way. It was our first time there and the staff was professional and friendly. Also to this lady! Dear people of Café Heuvel, continue the great service and send these types of people out of the business immediately. The house specialty "hot chocolate with whipped cream" is delicious and we will definitely come back!

Homophobic and physically aggressive. The owner took my beer from me and poured it down the sink because he thought I was gay. Also wouldn't serve my brown friend. Honestly what a biscuit.

A group of about 10 people came to have something warm because it was cold and raining. The man only served us at the bar, and spoke to us in English with great arrogance and arrogance. There were 3 locals sitting at the bar and they couldn't stop making jokes about us in their language and you could tell by the looks and laughter. I would not return to this place because of the treatment, they should learn to treat tourists better who also leave them income.

Great pub in Amsterdam the Gentleman who served us very respectful and helpful. He recommended some lovely Dutch Beer called İJwit and I would highly recommend this beer.

Awful, awful, awful Don’t recommend it The waitress (I don’t know her name) was extremely rude. In the middle of the bar, I was arguing with the waitress because of her racist behaviour. She told me that I am not allowed to enter inside. When I said why? She said get out!! If I had the time, I would call the police and take the case into the court. This is the worst place ever I have seen in Europe. Don’t go. They are not friendly and not happy when they see tourist

They were unfriendly and seemed resistant to serve us. we bought a coffee and sat outside having our pack lunch. at the sight of this a member of staff swore at us and asked us to leave. we are very queer presenting so wondered if this factored into the treatment we received from the staff. the lady next to us was treated with respect. we believe we were targets of discrimination.

I had a very unpleasant experience at Café Heuvel. One of the employees was extremely unfriendly towards me from the beginning. I entered the wrong door on my way to the bathroom and was immediately shouted at. When I discussed this with one of my friends, one of the bartenders overheard me and tried to kick me out. Eventually, this was avoided by standing my ground, and I was allowed to stay. Some of my friends had the same experience that evening. At the same time, one of our friends arrived. For the sake of the story, I need to state that he is black. Initially, the same bartender refused to let him in. Once he eventually let him in, he uttered 'blacka, blacka, blacka' (Dutch slang for a black person) while standing behind the bar. When I was leaving and we were gathering outside, I addressed the barkeeper. He showed no remorse in any way and even threatened that he would come to where we were heading to 'settle things'. I would like to express that we have never been unfriendly towards the bar personnel, although I cannot prove this. This is not a one-sided story where we offended the barkeeper first. Knowing many people who often visit Heuvel, I told them about my experience. They told me they were in no way surprised about this experience. They had not experienced racism at Heuvel before, but multiple of them had prior experience with the extremely unfriendly barkeeper. All in all, this was a very unpleasant experience. I honestly hope the owner, who I believe is the famous presenter Robert ten Brink, sees this and reprimands his staff accordingly. I was utterly shocked by the behaviour of this person.
